Yeah, us Mac developers are all starving... Delicious Monster for example "only" made $60,000 on their first day of business, with no advertising. Panic's Audion (according to their website) was one of the best selling pieces of software in Japan, ever. Mac developing pays, and it's a better life.
Want more proof? These are the keynote slides from a talk that Delicious Monster's CEO, Wil Shipely, gave...

Tomato Torrent -Torrent client

Xfactor -Gnutella, Fasttrack, Ares, OpenFT client

- lico05, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Very nice!
- scblock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The list has some good apps in it, but I couldn't call most of them "essential." "Very useful OSX apps" would be a better title.
I'm just saying, is all. - halophoenix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0definitely a good list! +dugg
- skanche, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Glad to see a well known list get updated. The new guys at Mac Specialist seem to be on top of things.
- sp4rky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0omg nice to see some one bringing MacSpecialis.org back. One of the best sites out there for mac *****.
- Praetorian42, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Enough of these already. We don't need anymore lists of OS X apps or firefox extensions.
(This coming from a fanatic user of both) - bowlerjim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Some of the big names are missing ... but overall nice list.
- sp4rky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0it's not so much the list for me its the fact that they are taking recommendations for the apps and that they are bringing this site back to life. The site use to be for sell, looks like it has been sold and under new managment, which is good news all around.

Yeah, I like recorder.xhead with is a voice recorder and player and also info.xhead which is a personal database to store passwords and other data securely.
http://www.xheadsoftware.com - CUBApete, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good list, but how many "Essential OSX Apps" stories do we need on digg?
- sk1d, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1LaunchBar's not on there, no digg

... how about I toss renicer into my login items and let nice my progs automatically (and on the fly). - adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Just once I want to see someone put " OSX" on one of these lists as a joke and see how many people catch it.
- mouthster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great list, I had never heard of Amadeus and have been searching for a 2-track audio editing program that was similar in use to Sound Forge on the PC. I seem to have found it.
- Flawless, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Awesome... I just discovered some very useful tools!

renicer is a unix app, go into terminal to renice your processes - trogdoor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Before this list I could never actually proove to people that with the right software any data can be stored on a DV. tape http://www.coolatoola.com/ digg++
- scooterbaga, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0they need "renicer" on there... it makes your computer "faster".
- SirThom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good list. Digg+
- Kaspar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@cakefart: Fink is listed in that list :P
- crazymacuser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is a good list. I like how some are noted with a cost... very helpful.
- JinkyHinge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I havn't read the article.. but I hope they didn't forget to include a disk formatting app.
- rc_collins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I am just shocked that there are 10 apps for Mac not written by Apple. I guess there will always be people writting software that would rather market to the blistering 5% of PC users.
--dan - diecastbeatdown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0it's missing a very cool app (essential is questionable and up for review as it is really opinion/need based):
Application Enhancer
http://www.unsanity.com/haxies/ape
Application Enhancer is a system which allows for 3rd party modules to modify and enhance the way applications behave and operate. Application Enhancers work on an application level, therefore they do not affect the stability of the underlying system. The technology behind Application Enhancer system has been in research and development for more than 1.5 years now, and many Unsanity haxies (including WindowShade X, FruitMenu, Silk and others) are now using it. The software development kit for developing modules is also available on the Application Enhancer home page. - Mildor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The only piece of essential software that I use on my iBook that isn't on there is Desktop Manager. Otherwise they've got my must-have apps on there, including Quicksilver and Sidetrack.
- frem001, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0BluePhoneElite is a cool app i use quite a lot for sending text messages through my mobile phone (easier to type it out than use the keypad) it also has some useful proximity behaviours, even more usefull if you have a bluetooth headset.
http://www.reelintelligence.com/BluePhoneElite/index.shtml - skyfex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is actually kinda good. Most "top 10 lists" (and similar) just suck terribly. But where's TextMate?
- Scourge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah, I LOVE Textmate.

http://scourge.swifthost.net/ - Maskawanian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://triage-software.com/ Grr annoying digg commenting system.
- bbBear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I agree with Arthur24, "Not a bad thing to keep in your back pocket. Def. a good rainy day link."
Digg++ - Maskawanian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'd have to add Cuisine [http://triage-software.com/] as an essential app (at least for me).
- Elxx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Oh, and also Rootkit, add that on too for an extra boost.
- sp4rky, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0uh oh i made a mistake on the url in my comment http://macspecialist.org had to correct it because the simply pwn so hard. hardcore mother fu(kers at http://macspecialist.org
- billbradford, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I've got my list up here: http://weblog.mrbill.net/essential-mac-software/
- Elxx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Hah, just have a news story titled "Essential Apps, Firefox, OSX, PS3, Xbox, Kevin Rose, TechTV".
98% of Diggers will Digg it no matter what. - cakefart, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0No digg. No wget, no lynx, and no Fink. And that's just what I could think of in two seconds.
Not every Mac user spends his/her entire day using Photoshop, filling their iPod with stolen mp3s, or making movies to put on their EXCELLENTTT WAYY RADD EXTREME PHATTTT t33n bl0GGG SIGHT!!!!!!
