- Trjn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+74Who's honestly shocked by this?
- Technopundit, on 10/12/2007, -6/+33I've loved his insane ramblings since the days of DOS.
- deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24I'm a Mac user and I have no problem with Dvorak. He's one of the few tech journalists who doesn't gush over every new buzzword out there. I respect that he's a cynical old bastard.

- ksgant, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21This coming from Dave Winer's blog....anyone that knows anything about Winer is that he certainly follows his name...yet it should be spelled "Whiner".
This guy has bashed Apple more than Dvorak ever has. AND he wraps it up as claiming to be an Apple fan and developer. Just look at the guys history and he'll claim that everything that Apple was doing was wrong wrong wrong. It started when Apple didn't heap tons of money on his scripting software (Frontier) and decided to go with their own scripting software (Applescript).
The guy is a brilliant computer scientist....and I give him props for helping to develop many of the things we use today (like RSS). But he is a bit of a whiner. Catching Dvorak on video is really no big deal as Dvorak has alluded to the fact he likes pissing off rabid fans of just about anything, Apple fans included.
If this is really surprising to anyone out there, then they don't know Dvorak at all. - Angostura, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19Nice try, but not really up to Dvorak's standards.
- theMcPatriot, on 10/12/2007, -5/+18he said that months and months ago on This Week In Tech. and if there was a columnist alive who didn't say some stuff just to piss people off, they aren't doing their job. dvorak is a great curmudgeon. just like jack cafferty on CNN. even when i don't agree with them, i enjoy getting mad at them.
- tokyopimp, on 10/12/2007, -10/+21LOL I love Dvorak... I love the fact that he pisses off Mac fans. It makes me smile, and I love to smile.
Who cares, Dvorak has an opinion, all his writings are his opinion, and if you get so riled up about them, you need to ***** get a life. - AlanLivingston, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14Damn right! Let's hear it for us cynical old bastards!
- blackjack75, on 10/12/2007, -14/+24Dvorak President? Oh well, it certainly wouldn't be worse than the last choice you made in real elections...
- brentcore, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11dvorak.org/blog
- kindrobot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Dvorak is endlessly entertaining. And he's hardly insane.
He has what I call a general lack of enthusiasm. I find it refreshing.
It's not my way of thinking, I am personally almost always enthused
about something. But people like him provide me with some balance
when I drift into the fanboy realm. That's why fanboys generally hate
(to hate) this guy, they take it personally when others dislike the
things they like. - theone3, on 10/12/2007, -15/+24Hell, if Bill O'Reilly is the most watched news source in the United States, his strategy is proven to work!
Americans love to think that they're collectively dumb. Most of O'Reilly's viewers and Dvorak's readers are probably watching/reading just so that they can quietly ponder whether the rest of America really is that stupid... And, well, from the media perspective; If it sells, then why not? Morons are cheap, right?
And THAT is why America is doomed. :) - cyberdork, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11I am also a Mac user, and I love listening to TWiT when Dvorak is joining. He's a very entertaining guy, but sometimes I'm very suprised about his lack of knowledge. In the last TWiT for example he heard for the first time about allofmp3.com
I get the feeling that very little knowledge and a whole lot of gut feeling is going into his collumns.
But still he's my favorite crank. - sspooner, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9You know, as a Mac user myself I'm used to the snide comments about "those computers are used to design dresses right ?". The last time we had a company wide outage because of some random windows virus, they booted all the windows machines off the network and left my solitary machine on. Guess who made the snide comments then.
I'm not a gamer, I have a brain that I use for other things. I'm a software engineer and there is nothing my Mac cannot do that my colleagues do, but a whole lot my mac does that their Dell's don't.
Poor bastards. - mikeabundo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6And he repeated it for Dave Winer's camera? Damn. That guy's got guts.
- 12Volts, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I don't get it - why is anyone digging this. Dvorak is great - very funny, but surely this doesn't tell us anything we didn't already know.
- threepio, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Great analogy. Pity that three people got it.
- t3hX, on 10/12/2007, -7/+11Not me. He does it to make people read his stuff - it's classic attention-seeking behavior.
- christianw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4so much mac hate
jealous much?
lol @ u - The_Decryptor, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9"Tell them your Window install doesn't crash as much as theirs because you know how to use it."
And tell Windows fanboys their OS is unstable, they hate that, and tell Linux fanboys their OS supports comunisim, they hate that as well.
Normal people (of any OS, etc.) just don't care, i sorta feel sorry for people who's sole job in life seems to be to want to annoy people (e.g. saying macs suck, or that macs are great while ignoring the faults, etc.) - pabster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Like him or hate him, the guy's one smart cookie.
Personally I find him entertaining and I rather enjoy his ramblings. Once in a while he is RIGHT, even. - Bioshocker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I don't get what's new here. In this new frontier of advertising driven content, the person who earns the most isn't the person who writes the best content. It's the person who writes the most sensationalist content to drive traffic through their site.
Dvorak gets my respect for being honest enough to admit this reality. Dozens of stories make it to the front page here every week that do exactly the same thing, but don't have the honesty to admit that their latest "Apple merging with Nintendo!"/whatever stuff is written solely for the purpose of driving traffic and generating advertising clicks.
Trolling, rumour fabricating and pandering to popular topics is big business these days. - crackintosh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4and it got him on the front page of Digg! I guess its working for him, smart guy!
- lukaso, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6He is a sensationalist
- angelp, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6At least Dvorak gets paid to act 2 years old.....what's in it for the countless users of Digg who do nothing but spout nonsense about an OS they know nothing about?
- ThinkBox, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8I'm just waiting for him to start talking about BAT BOY's integration into Vista
- madjo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Dvorak is a nice addition to the TWiTs... You can't have discussion without multiple POVs.
If you can't handle another ones complete opposite opinion, you shouldn't live in a society where free speech is still allowed. - angelp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@cyberdork - I noticed that too....How do you report on technology and have never heard of AllofMP3? He hadn't heard of PirateBay either. I thought that was a little weird.
- cranium, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'm also a software engineer, I develop on Windows, OSX, Linux, and Unix. I use a Mac for my home computer.
It's absolutely laughable that Windows users can somehow work together enough self-delusion to presume to talk down to users of *any* variant of Unix. Take off the training wheels, guys, then we'll talk. - kracker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2> mrASSMAN: the video is down..
mirrors anyone? - boxc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4@AlanLivingston
Mayor Quimby:
"Look at this everyone, twelve dead snakes."
[crowd boo's him]
"I'm sick of you people, your nothing but a bunch of fickle mush heads."
Townspeople: "He's right!""Give us hell, Quimby!" - knightblade2oo4, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Dvorak is an endless sequence algorithm in splinter cell:chaos theory.
Direct analogy? I think so. - gmerin, on 10/12/2007, -7/+9it's just confirmation that Dvorak's time is long past, and he should be generally ignored as the senile old fart he admits he is.
- DrPhibes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I got the link to work, try right clicking and saving it. It took a while for it to start up, but I got it. Funny Stuff!
I am a huge fan of the Mac OSX operating system, but I don't let Dvorak get under my skin, actually he's great for laughs just like Steve Ballmer. - cranium, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5LOL, that's a good one.
Dvorak: This isn't the first time we've seen a blowhard confronted with his own stupidity only to claim that he "did that on purpose."
What an idiot. - Wickerman392, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Lol @ "Those computers are used to design dresses, right?" If I ever see a particularly vociferous fanboy, I'll have that one ready.
- AlanLivingston, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3@JonGretar
Industrial Design? You mean like the bosses and ribs and floating magnesium frames that allow four foot drops to concrete or carpeting or whatever the spec says. Yup, that's design. It's created by mechanical engineers. ID? That's decoration! - Jaymoon, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Who's really seeking more attention... Dvorak striking up debateable topics... Or people spending every waking minute to prove he's a phony...
- Ramble, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Care to give us an example then?
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4the video is down..
http://static2.podcatch.com/blogs/gems/support/dvorak.mov - Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'd rather dig him than digg this story :P
- mbthompson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Uh, I said fessed up, as in cofessed. Not messed up you freaking moron.
- ReikiMaster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I like Dvorak. If he wants to piss of mac users because it will help him sell a few articles, then let him. I read him because I like his point of veiw.
- mistshadow2k4, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I always have to laugh when they market Macs as a lifestyle choice. Excuse me? Your hardware is a lifestyle choice? Maybe that's part of why I don't want any of it. I want my hardware to be damn good hardware, nothing more, nothing less.
And Dvorak? I've never regarded him as anything but a source of entertainment. Ok, he has been right about one or two things (didn't he say that Mac would go over to Intel and get flamed by Mac fans for it? Many of which rushed out to buy the new Intel Macs as soon as they were available) but he's been wrong about a whole lot more. - shiwej, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1So boycott him. For a long time his opinion pieces have offered nothing of value. I'm not even a hardcore mac fan, but he's been against everything imaginable in these past few years. I had a subscription to PC Magazine and I quickly learned to ignore his column.
Boycott Dvorak: http://shiwej.com/boycottdvorak/ - gmerin, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4there are sufficient real and meaningful issues in life for people to be constructively angry about and use that anger as motivation for change; we don't need the intentional rantings of a self-admitted useless member of society like Dvorak. getting angry because of his intentional baiting is like eating pure lard: it's like "empty" calories that have no nutritional value, serves no useful purpose, and just makes you fat.
- Ford_Prefect2nd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Ramble- I have to agree with the point you made against sspooner. I hear that same comment all the time. My Mac can do everything a Windows box can do and a lot they can't... strangely they always fail to list examples.
- Mike.ohara, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Wait.. what?
Linux supports Communism? does that mean that all Linux users should be rounded up and jailed because they like free stable software with a sharing mentality? I fail to see how the usage of an operating system on a PC is a direct link to whether or not they support a political system other then America's (which by the way is not exactly a "free" society) -
