- kayakin3d, on 10/10/2007, -6/+206Why buy now when you might regret it in a month when a possible new widescreen iPod comes out? That's what happened to me when I bought my iPod Photo. A month after I bought it, they came out with the iPod video for close to the same price!
- mrfreeziexp, on 10/10/2007, -3/+120Engadget is right on this one. Anyone that has a brain can look at the average iPod life span(as far as being the newest) and see that the 5g has long outlived it's expected life expectancy. 6g iPod has to be just around the corner.
- CraigJ, on 10/10/2007, -2/+117dugg, but reluctantly. you've exceeded your exclamation mark usage quota for the week.
- agarfield2004, on 10/10/2007, -5/+102I hope the front is glass like the iPhone. My iPod has too many scratches on it...
- SlackerCSB, on 10/10/2007, -2/+93I hate to be captain obvious here, but you either wait for the new product to get the new features or to get a price drop on the old product.
- robotsongs, on 10/10/2007, -0/+59You could have exchanged it... they have a 3 week policy.
- dansvan, on 10/10/2007, -3/+62I've had a 4th generation one (no color) for 2 years, and it still works fine. I'm not getting a new one until that one dies.
- TheJas, on 10/10/2007, -13/+70I am so damn sick of waiting for the phantom WS, touch-screen ipod. It's even worse now that we can see exactly how it will work in the iphone and yet we still don't have it. I'm sure it will come sooner or later, but it has taken waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long. I have been sitting on my old ipod for a while just waiting for this damn thing. Get off your ass Jobs!
- mywhitenoise, on 10/10/2007, -7/+58No, DO BUY IT NOW!
The way you can clear the stock, and I can finally get my widescreen iPod. I've waited about to ***** years for this update. - Daniel591992, on 10/10/2007, -2/+48I've been waiting for a few years now... Remember about two years ago when people expected a widescreen iPod? It was all over digg... I can't seem to find the fake iPod with the Finding Nemo on it...
- mywhitenoise, on 10/10/2007, -5/+50God and Jobs? Isn't that a little redundant?
Okay, i'm just kidding, i'm not THAT big of an Apple fanboy. - MikeWanDo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+32When is a life expectancy unexpected?
- Faust06, on 10/10/2007, -3/+32should've gone in and exchanged it. Don't complain when you could have done something about it. You had 3 weeks to exchange it
- morcheeba, on 10/10/2007, -4/+33I SEE YOU'VE USED UP YOUR CAPITAL LETTER ALLOTMENT FOR THE WEEK.
- KnytFyre, on 10/10/2007, -2/+29And people have been saying for the last year that the new 6g ipod is on it's way. Well technically that is correct, I'm sure a 6th gen will eventually come out, but only God and Jobs know when.
- robotsongs, on 10/10/2007, -2/+26I find my video iPod good for watching por.... uh, educational movies while on vacation.
Other than that... no video for me. - DreKor, on 10/10/2007, -0/+23I thought there should be a new one coming out soon. Even so, it's hard for me not to replace my old one right now. Also, if anyone who recently broke into a green Camry is reading this, you're a bastard.
- proghead, on 10/10/2007, -1/+22and they came out with the iPhone (a widescreen iPod)
- danielsan1701, on 10/10/2007, -2/+22On a long enough timeline, every iPod's life expectancy drops to zero.
- Kitsune818, on 10/10/2007, -6/+25I bought my iPod Photo the *day* before the Vids came out. I was sitting there playing with it at work the first day I had it when one of the dude's down the hall popped in saying "Check out my new iPod! It does Video!" I was pissed, he paid less!
- soulslave, on 10/10/2007, -1/+19It has nothing to do with "cool new toys"... Why bother buying a product now, when you can get it cheaper in the near future, or a better product for the same price.
- kingfoot, on 10/10/2007, -3/+21honestly, its an mp3 player... if it plays your music, i think it accomplished the goal. im not sure buying another one with touch screen capabilities is really worth it when you alredy have one. i had a mini, and it was great for 2 years. then i got the video because i needed more space for music (and a show or 2). keept the video ever since it came out, works just fine.
- madmac625, on 10/10/2007, -2/+20In other news, don't buy a computer, or anything tech oriented for that matter, since it will be updated soon after you purchase it.
Seriously though, I can't wait to see what they churn out this time, my 60gb Photo is looking a little long in the tooth. - TheCount, on 10/10/2007, -4/+21I always thought the iPod Photo was silly, iPod's screen is too small to enjoy pictures. I skipped that one, thankfully.
- Rahodeb, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17"Some of you guys is dumb"
Unbelievable.. - TomRemixed, on 10/10/2007, -8/+24Don't buy any mp3 player now. There are most likely going to be new iPods and new Creative Zens in the coming months.
- lotus22, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17mid september. whenever the buy a mac get a free ipod rebate runs out. mark my words.
- DaffyDuck, on 10/10/2007, -3/+19So being able to load your iPod with videos and plug into any TV is not on your terms? That alone is a great feature IMHO. My parents watched the first 2 seasons of lost from my iPod a while back using this feature.
- mwhoh, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15welcome to consumer electronics
- quadvods, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13when you get diagnosed with a terminal illness with 4 days to live.. and last 4 years?
- BobMysterioso, on 10/10/2007, -7/+19Don't feel bad. I have the ipod Video - and I've never watched a video on it. Just seems pointless to me. I like my media on my terms, use lots of upnp devices and always have an mp3 player with me (not always an ipod), but the small screen appeal just hasn't hit me yet.
- KrazyA1pha, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13/sarcasm
(There ya go) - MacParrot, on 10/10/2007, -5/+16Is it OK if we just bury you for being an ass? You OK with that instead?
- theOster, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13it's ok, we all have to sometimes
- simmonsdd, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13I had some leftover pda screen protectors that were just the right size for placing over the plastic on mine. They work great and no scratches ever.
It's a good thing. - qualish, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Hhaha, until you want to remove the "screen protector".
- dianebl, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11Since always?
Every time a new product comes out, you can find the previous version at retailers on sale. - KnytFyre, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9from the department of redundancy department
- jstohler, on 10/10/2007, -6/+15This would be completely true if not for one thing: it isn't.
- kinerry, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11They are pulling this ***** with macbooks as well and not releasing Leopard until after the college buying season is over.
- HouseofEl, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Well I wish Apple would hurry up. I've got a 4th generation ipod that is still going strong, but lacks storage capacity and battery life. I've been putting off a new one for over a year and a half because I wanted to buy at the very next update.
- iFungus, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10I agree, why do companies even upgrade their product lines anyway? So aggravating.
/sarcasm - WiseWeasel, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Apple also sells their older models as refurbished at considerable discount fairly often, if you look in the "special deals" area of their online store...
- Netrilix, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8You can avoid all confusion by simply using "ur" in place of both.
- MacParrot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Is it irony or just plain stupidity on your part when you call someone dumb and then misspell a word or three (you're/research/yourself). Maybe you should use the built-in spell checker?
- solarweasel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6what about those of us who like the convenience of touting around our 30+ gb library of music?
- DaffyDuck, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Sure, buy a Meizu and pray it doesn't break because there is practically no customer support in the US. I wonder if the total lack of overhead costs might be partly responsible for the cheaper prices?
- iFungus, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8I find my iPod to be really useful for video, for watching lectures without a distracting computer in front of me.
- soopafly, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8OMG, like, you're so indie.
- Ignathius, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6same here. 4G 40gig iPod. still works perfectly (though the battery life is diminishing some. i think i only get about 8-10 hours on a full charge now, and when it was new it would go 12+ easy. although once i get my new pioneer head unit, my 4G will be relegated to my car glovebox for the remainder of it's lifespan. and since the unit powers the iPod while it's connected, i guess the battery issue, is really a non-issue :P
