- jd33, on 10/11/2007, -31/+196Could it just be the difference between a man holding it, and a woman holding it, that's making it appear smaller?
- cfazzini, on 10/11/2007, -15/+137I'm Ron Burgundy?
- gmarks, on 10/11/2007, -4/+120Maybe you just got bigger...
- addiggt, on 07/06/2009, -10/+116I'm wondering, did Apple actually reduce the size of the device since January or are they just trying to make it seem smaller? Maybe people were complaining about the size? I have no idea.
- alwaysmc2, on 10/11/2007, -6/+111"Yeah. But Apple is a company, after all, I wouldn't put it past them."
Okay, I call BS. Everyone knows that Apple loves, LOVES it's customers
...' money.
:) - LilRabbitFooFoo, on 08/11/2008, -1/+95The physical device has different proportions between the two pictures. One is long and slender, the other is shorter and therefore squatter.
Looking at the specs and the pictures, it appears as though the one on the left of the picture with this article is stretched horizontally. Notice that the buttons are no longer square, etc.
So, someone resized this image improperly (forgot their shift key in photoshop, hehe), and the iPhone is still the same size and proportions it has always been.
Nothing to see here. :) - Ireland, on 10/11/2007, -14/+99Guys it's just that this new guy has a bigger hand, a quick check of the phones specs will tell you they haven't changed. I really thought 'André the Giant' had passed though.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -10/+64Waiting for conference video.....
waiting.....
waiting.........
waiting.................. - Ricapar, on 10/11/2007, -15/+56You made a statement. You did not ask a question. WHY did you put question marks (several of them!) after your statement?
Things like that irk me. - silver2k, on 10/11/2007, -10/+50Yeah, it irks me too ?????
- iashraf, on 10/11/2007, -5/+44It definitely looks fatter and smaller in length than the original. The hand if obviously different as it is fatter but looking at the actual device itself, it looks smaller.
- addiggt, on 07/06/2009, -19/+53Yeah, well it's possible that they simply changed the hand model. But why? Isn't it kind of dishonest to try to make it "look" smaller than it actually is? I could be wrong.
- bakerster, on 10/11/2007, -22/+54iPhone = Same
Hand = Bigger
Your Brain = Smaller - funkychikensays, on 10/11/2007, -4/+30the image is just stretched in the new one..
look at the icons - gurp13, on 10/11/2007, -5/+28Go **** yourself, San Diego.
- tecknoplasma, on 10/11/2007, -3/+25Why are we comparing two pictures?...
What are the old specs and the new specs? - thepolkapunk, on 10/11/2007, -1/+23If you go to the actual apple website http://www.apple.com/iphone/ the phone and the hand holding it don't look as wide. Perhaps someone is doing so image trickery and pushing it to digg?
- demonotaku, on 10/11/2007, -2/+22Please, bury this story. It's diggtardery at it's worse.
- Squar3d, on 10/11/2007, -9/+26Size definitely changed. I cut out both pictures of the iPhone, and first scaled them until the heights were the same. You can see that the width is different. In the next, I scaled the width to be the same. You can see the heights are different.
Widths scaled to equal each other:

- mightyjlr, on 10/11/2007, -1/+17@alexx3k
The new MacBook Pros have a smaller bezel. Not a Photoshop. - KennMac, on 10/11/2007, -5/+19Goddamn it, who put a question mark on the teleprompter?
- gurp13, on 10/11/2007, -2/+16Loud noises!
- frieddonuts, on 10/11/2007, -4/+16They're using a very well-endowed hand model to make the device seem smaller.
- sTiVo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12@ZedX
You are absolutely right. The actual website shows an iPhone that looks the same as it ever did. The linked photo has been widened. - james2die4, on 10/11/2007, -4/+15Small is the new big.(?)
- hudson99, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12"Isn't it kind of dishonest to try to make it "look" smaller than it actually is?"
Have you ever seen a cheeseburger that looked anything like the photos they use at McDonalds?
Have you ever seen a 17" monitor with 17" of viewable screen?
How many times have you had the "World's Best" cup of coffee? Was it even any good?
It's called advertising. You usually have 2 options: "kind of dishonest" or "flat out lies" - mpeters13, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12I think this is the best comment ever. Dugg for use of word "diggtardery"
- pixelsoup, on 10/11/2007, -2/+13It's a Phostoshop hack job. The new iPhone image has been squashed. As funkychikensays (said) look at the icons. They're not square anymore.
- Stormen, on 10/11/2007, -5/+16Nope, it's not smaller... It's just an error, from resizing the image:

Never question the weather. - zenerdiode, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10George Costanza burned his hands on an iron after the first shoot, hence the switch to another model with bigger hands. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
- diagonalfish, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11You're one to talk, my friend. Perhaps you meant 'worst'? :)
- DarkHorizon5, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9"Why has the size of the egg changed?
It hasn't - you've just grown up!" (Cadbury) - ZedX, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8No, whoever took a screenshot of the "new" picture has the wrong aspect ratio. Don't believe me, look at this photo, then go to the real photo. http://www.apple.com/iphone
- reedjohnson, on 10/11/2007, -4/+12Same dimensions as before just a much BIGGER HAND!
- rauz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Confirmed.
Scaled to the same width it's easy to spot, should've thought of that from the start.
http://i10.tinypic.com/6h6n87s.jpg - bradwilki, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I wouldn't think that to be a problem it would just mean the keyboard would just take up more of the screen. Remember it hasn't lost any width.
- combovercool, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6To beat a dead Seinfeld horse "She had man hands."
- fuzzmeister, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Wow, that is actually a pretty big difference. Sepultura, how do you plead to these charges?
- cbabraham, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7WRONG, did you not see the side by side comparisons? Those phones in the picture are different dimensions, no question about it.
- tw0bit, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6http://www.flickr.com/photos/tw0bit/541630525/ a little different...
- KennMac, on 10/11/2007, -3/+7I love lamp.
- rockdave, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4It's been said before, but whoever captured the image from the Apple website reduced its height just to make trouble.
The iPhone has NOT been reduced in size, or at the very least, this submission does not prove so. - ThatsUnpossible, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Ignore the size of the hand.
According to Apple's own website, the iPhone is 2.4" wide and 4.5" tall, for a ratio of 0.533.
The smaller iPhone depicted is roughly 174 pixels wide by 302 pixels tall, a ratio of 0.576.
The original iPhone depiction is roughly 125 pixles wide by 235 pixels tall, a ratio of 0.532.
Clearly the new image depiction of the iPhone is NOT accurate compared to the tech specs they have published. You would assume they would not screw up on the tech specs of the phone, especially not erring on the side of saying the phone is larger than it is. Therefore you would conclude the size depicted in the latest image is inaccurate.
Whether this was done on purpose or not is something only Apple can tell us. - bradleyland, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4thepolkanut is right.
BURY this thing INACCURATE - jxdx, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Image is stretched you noobs, compare that image to the one on the website...
- Thex1138, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3All I want to know is if the battery is changeable ?
- hokkos, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3That entry is totally inaccurate
