- nepidae, on 07/17/2009, -3/+41So why do they include a web browser on the iPhone?
- kebwi, on 07/17/2009, -1/+24Come on over to Android folks. Ignore my red horns and pitchfork, we've got your porn right here, oh yeah, oh yeah. Big brother ain't got nothing to say in our neck of the woods.
...that and, as an Android developer, I want more people on Android so I can make more money off you. Buy my apps, screw the iPhone and its Draconian B.S. I don't make any money off iPhone users and you have a nanny following you around all the time anyway. It's win, win.
There, that's about as honest as I can be. - atgmac, on 07/17/2009, -0/+21Because they're hypocritical bastards who try to control everything
- turquoisefish, on 07/17/2009, -0/+19Anything with user generated content would be the same surely? Apps that show user comments could have naughty words in, oh my!
- immatellyouwhat, on 07/17/2009, -0/+9Yes! My BaconFap App will be huge!
- schoate09, on 07/17/2009, -1/+8I don't like the direction the app store is headed in. It's not Apple's fault, it's hard for anyone but the developers to control. I think WinMo could learn from this, have all useful apps from the App store, and only allow those apps strictly in there. Leave the fart/porn apps the ability to be installed seperate from the Apple store. Heaven forbid Apple gives up the potential for a little profit to save face! It may keep the App store's relatively good reputation afloat before the public continues to hear bad things.
Not being a fanboy, but the App store just doesn't seem to have a bit of seriousness anymore, just look at the top apps. This may be fine for those that want to be entertained, but I have some professional/business needs, and I find the Blackberry and other WinMo devices (with keyboards one thing that always has pulled me away from the iPhone) more appealing. Aside from that keyboard issue, this App store issue is really bothersome. There are many legitimate browser based apps that could be hurt by getting a 17+ tag, having some automatically looking over it and making assumptions. - TobiasParker, on 07/17/2009, -2/+9Happens all of the time, get over it.
- badqat, on 07/17/2009, -2/+7Translation: iPhone owners - use Safari, beyotches. Developers - your kind isn't wanted 'round here.
What's it all mean? Jailbreak...don't take a closed system. - phyx726, on 07/17/2009, -0/+4When I was in high school a lot of kids had pagers. How many kids nowadays have an Iphone in high school because right now I don't even have a smart phone.
- kebwi, on 07/18/2009, -1/+5I don't want to argue with you too much about this, but I do believe that software developers deserve to get paid for their thousands of hours of work, and some of us charge pretty low prices. If you can afford a single overpriced latte at Starbucks you can afford to pay for smart phone apps.
- yocouchdigga, on 07/18/2009, -0/+3and (if you're poor) those same apps that you could purchase in the Android Market, you can usually find for free, with a little interneting.
<3 Android - davethemac, on 07/17/2009, -1/+3Seems like media hype to me, and they will show what a responsive company after the predictable outcry
- GreenAlien, on 07/18/2009, -0/+2At one point the App Store on the iPhone was useless for this. It had one global Top 25 list. It's slightly better these days because it can show Top Paid/Top Free for each category. They could do with a social feature for discovering new apps so you can see what friends recommend or rated highly.
- AlienMushroom, on 07/17/2009, -1/+3Sarafi = porn.
- yocouchdigga, on 07/18/2009, -0/+2I pay, buddy and I encourage people to pay for apps on the cupcake application, regularly.
- Atomic1fire, on 07/19/2009, -0/+2If MS did it,
They would be labeled as M$ and Linux/ Google Android would be brought up almost instantaneously as the better alternative. - schoate09, on 07/17/2009, -1/+2Exactly! There's my problem. There are plenty of useful apps in the app store, but they're so hidden and so outnumbered by the unfortunately more popular crap apps, that the whole experience suffers.
- GreenAlien, on 07/17/2009, -0/+1I think this is a bonehead move by Apple. So stupid I'd like to see this verified first.
Yes there are a load of silly apps in the App Store. But there's an awful lot of quality apps on there too. If you like astronomy look at the number of quality apps there are for this. If you like chess you'll see there's 10 to 20 quality chess apps on there, many from established names. Several decent VNC apps. Tons of Twitter clients. Several multi-network IM clients. Several Skype-enabled apps. Whichever category you look at there are tons of options. So when someone came along with a fart app, many beginner developers saw how much money it was raking in while in the top 10 list and decided to copy it. Don't let the silly apps detract from all the quality apps on there. And then there's the games. Vastly better games compared with any other mobile device (PSP aside). - Me1000, on 07/17/2009, -1/+2for pr0n... duh.
- inactive, on 07/18/2009, -0/+1Sarafi?
- inactive, on 07/18/2009, -0/+1Apple clearly supports communism and should be dealt with accordingly.
- brim4brim, on 07/18/2009, -0/+1One guy on a gaming site I got to who is in his teens in high school has 3 and one of the new version of iPhone.
Yeah I know.
Most annoying thing is his dad works in the bankrupt banks in the country :-/ - inactive, on 07/17/2009, -2/+2Ha ha ha ha! Apple...
- XkenX87, on 07/18/2009, -1/+1Linux = PORN
- i2oi3, on 07/17/2009, -5/+2I saw the word Apple so I automatically assumed it was shameless promotion - and I wasn't too far off!
- ohreilly, on 07/17/2009, -12/+5Buried for only being on the front page because it's Apple.
If MS/Nokia/SE tried this on (not that they would as they credit their users with a bit of intelligence and independent thinking) it wouldn't be anywhere near. - Zomgondo, on 07/17/2009, -22/+3Front page with zero comments? Really?
