- inactive, on 08/26/2008, -1/+14It's called Cycorder. And it's a really decent video recorder only lacking sound at the moment.
Other things worth jailbreaking for:
- The BRIGHT Flashlight app
- BossPrefs to quickly enable/disable battery-hogging services (bluetooth, wifi, 3G) AND hide default iPhone apps (like Stocks)
- Qik - for streaming live video from the iPhone camera to the web
- NetShare, which has been pulled from the App store but is still available in less legitimate ways - namelessXsilent, on 08/26/2008, -0/+11i dont see what the big deal is in deciding the jailbreak or not. Just jailbreak it. If i new update comes out for the phone just plug it into itunes and update, it cant brick your phone.
I jailbroke my phone and even if i never used anything from Cydia or Installer i still would have no worries in updating to a new firmware becasue i have done it before with no problems.
Its not even like jailbreaking takes a long time.. - inactive, on 08/26/2008, -0/+9There's a couple of bugs in 2.0.3, the team recommends waiting for the next update - prolly later Tuesday. But check here: http://blog.iphone-dev.org/
- EricAugu, on 08/26/2008, -0/+8Or for free, set up Open SSH and log in to the iPhone from your computer using sftp.
- virtualsnyper, on 08/26/2008, -0/+6Why do you miss it... it's available in Cydia.
It's called SpoofApp3g - tekhna, on 08/26/2008, -0/+5Totally random question, and I'm sorry if I get dug down for it, but does anyone know of an effective program for using your iPhone as a hard drive? I have DiskAid but it only seems to show media files, not the root files.
- Issius, on 08/26/2008, -0/+4Just so you know. There are problems with this release. My iPod can't be restored at the moment because of it and the dev team released another update saying that they are aware of the problem so they are releasing a new one soon (probably today I imagine). Anyway, don't download this! Stick to the windows version and if you upgraded to 2.02 like I did just wait to pwn it for the new mac release if you aren't using windows.
- cramd, on 08/26/2008, -0/+4SpoofApp is not working for us here in Canada. When I first used it the CallerID was being spoofed, but not it just shows as Unknown. This takes all of the fun out of the app.
- miriv365, on 08/26/2008, -0/+4Wasn't there an application on Cydia that did what NetShare did? anyone know the name?
- Harbinger1080, on 08/26/2008, -0/+4one of the few was 3proxy.
- nightofgrim, on 08/26/2008, -0/+4Their version numbers are a little bit confusing. Anyone else agree?
- SPECOPS, on 08/26/2008, -0/+3QIK is awesome
- inactive, on 08/26/2008, -0/+3http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=172 ... It's called "Cycorder" it's the free one. It currently has no sound, but that's coming - I hear. http://www.saurik.com/
- Virgule, on 08/26/2008, -0/+3The SHA1 sum for PwnageTool_2.0.3.1.tbz must be:
a3faf5c074d5556a40ce4c7678a51995b5767073
If you use the PwnageTool from another source than the iphone-dev server (http://xs1.iphwn.org/appcast/PwnageTool_2.0.3.1.tb ... then it's your own fault if something bad happen yadda yadda yadda... - eleazar123, on 08/26/2008, -0/+3The Curse of Monkey Island on ScummVM (with speech support) was enough to get me to jailbreak. Not to mention I love changing the themes all the time. Oh and hiding applications I don't use often, and then using gLauncher (or appflow) to launch them when I actually need them.
- Listor, on 08/26/2008, -0/+2if you are a PC person and dont want tons of headaches trying to get everything working. I recommend Quickpwn or waiting a few days for winpwn 2.5 to come out.
- cerealjynx, on 08/26/2008, -0/+2Anyone have an alternative?
- RockBandit, on 08/26/2008, -2/+4Yeah, I downloaded PwnageTool but can't justify pulling the trigger just yet to jailbreak the phone. I just can't think of anything that I really need right now that I can't get via the App Store. I'm excited to see how Cydia compares to Installer though.
- cerealjynx, on 08/26/2008, -0/+2Well, you just made my mind up for me, thanks. /sincerity
- sjug, on 08/26/2008, -0/+2Out now: http://xs1.iphwn.org/appcast/PwnageTool_2.0.3.1.tb ...
- WiseWeasel, on 08/26/2008, -0/+2Because we still have to give them our money for an iPhone to use this... The downside for them is minimal.
- MacParrot, on 08/26/2008, -0/+2Maybe it's just because your posts like this add nothing and you just sound like you're whining.
I don't have an iPhone, but the one app that might make it worth jailbreaking would be NetShare. To use your iPhone as a cheap way to get online for your laptop (if you have the unlimited data plan) would be the killer app for me if I was trying to decide one way or another.
For all those who made so much noise about Apple's kill switch for iPhone apps, note that even though Apple removed it (twice even) from the app store most likely because of their contract with ATT (which wants to sell you a more expensive plan and hardware for doing the same thing), Apple hasn't removed it from anyone's iPhone via that switch. Even though they have the power (and the legal though not necessarily moral right) to do so. - WiseWeasel, on 08/26/2008, -0/+2They're still working on the baseband unlock for the 3G iPhone. Hopefully, we'll get something soon. Until then, yeah, you could stick with the 2.5G iPhone if you want one now on T-Mobile.
- Mandegar0, on 08/26/2008, -0/+1One major problem is after u pwn ur iphone with this new update, your passwords such as mail and wifi wont be remembered after every time you put your iPhone into sleep. But there is a easy fix. Other then that, i dont know of any other problems.
- solidwhetstone, on 08/26/2008, -0/+1ipwn'd.
True story. - kolywater, on 08/26/2008, -0/+1netatalk on cydia lets finder see your phone (under shared on leopard). free, written by jay freeman (guy that made cydia).
- seiha, on 08/26/2008, -1/+2the 3g network for t-mobile isn't the same as at&t's
so no - nonsequitor, on 08/28/2008, -0/+1Actually I was wrong. I got the directory permission problem on my 3G iPhone. Good thing BossPrefs has a button to fix it.
- WiseWeasel, on 08/26/2008, -0/+1Browsing through the "networking" section of Cydia, I'm finding connect.c, SOCKS Relay and 3proxy. I haven't tried either of them, so I'm not sure which is best...
- nonsequitor, on 08/27/2008, -0/+1Just to clarify, there are bugs in the pwnage tool, not the pwnd firmware and only for iPod Touch devices.
- mingistech, on 08/26/2008, -3/+4I miss SpoofApp. Being able to make my number show up whatever I want on others caller ID was really cool. I really liked how it recored the conversation and masked your voice as an option.
If anyone is interested in checking this cool app out here is a link.
http://www.spoofapp.com/ - Singulariter, on 08/26/2008, -1/+2It's called Datacase: http://www.veiosoft.com/
- Fubeman, on 08/26/2008, -1/+2Or FileMagnet from the iTunes App Store.
- getsaf, on 08/26/2008, -0/+1A basic SSH client supports proxying just fine.. SSH has been available on jailbroken iPhones since day one.
- EH90, on 08/26/2008, -7/+8The thing is that there aren't many useful apps in Cydia or Installer yet. There are a few good ones but I think it's better to wait until they port more apps. I jailbroke my phone and the only apps that i really thought were worth the jailbreak were CyRecorder, Winterboard, and Open SSH. Sure the NES emulator is fun but not fun enough to jailbreak a phone for it. But then again that's just my opinion. Although the cannabis battery charger and slider are pretty damn cool... hehe.
- mrBitch, on 08/27/2008, -0/+1RE: " Geez you guys...lol! Why isn't Apple all over this stuff? "
Officially, Apple discourages "jailbreak". But, as long as it sells more hardware Apple doesn't really care.
Remember those pics of jailbroken iphones at the Apple stores? - Tenoq, on 08/26/2008, -1/+2CyRecorder? I couldn't find it. Does it support recording phone conversations? Because that would be enough of a reason to jailbreak for me!
- Bjornstrom, on 08/26/2008, -0/+1Quake 1 with wireless network play. I don't get why this isn't getting more publicity. It actually runs fine.
- skemez1, on 08/26/2008, -0/+1The link is down! does anyone have a mirror?
- sheldonnbbaker, on 08/27/2008, -0/+1Question - I pwned and jailbroke mine already on the 2.0.0 software - do I need to do this all again if I just want to get the new 2.0.2 software on there without killing my 3rd party apps and such?
- mrBitch, on 08/27/2008, -0/+1very good point, jailbreak gives you the best of both worlds : you can download apps from the official app store, or you can download "unofficial" apps via Cydia or Installer.
- stone2020, on 08/27/2008, -0/+1http://www.pwnagetool2.com/
- xero9, on 08/27/2008, -0/+1If Slingplayer becomes available for jailbroken iPhones, then we'll talk. Until then, there really isn't any point for me. The last thing I need is apps running in the background to make my battery suck any worse than it already does.
- ncc1701, on 08/26/2008, -1/+1the frequencies are different between at&t and t-mobile, and the iphone 3g hardware only supports the at&t bands. you might as well go for a 1st-gen iphone, or wait to see what t-mobile's upcoming 3g smartphones offer.
- Skahara, on 08/26/2008, -3/+2So, is digg now an iPhone forum with hackz noobs asking stupid questions?
- normalkid0615, on 08/26/2008, -3/+1Um... Is anyone going to ever unlock the Iphone 3G for use with T-Mobile?
Should I just look for a used Iphone 4GB or something for unlocking with T-Mobile? - skinturtle, on 08/26/2008, -7/+0Pwnage Tool?
Geez you guys...lol! Why isn't Apple all over this stuff? - jmbrysk, on 08/26/2008, -9/+1Another release and still no point to jailbreak unless you are a developer.

What is Digg?
