- nsummy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8When is all of this iphone speculation going to stop? Lets just wait for the specs to come out
- ho0ber, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Like the De-Homophob button you apparently need?
- RichB214, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4is there a flash?
- awhiteflame, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Wow, this thread de-gets-better by the second.
- hypnotoad32, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Speculation.. From the article:
"Since Apple has not officially released the full technical specs these are only assumptions based on available data from the known vendors for the iPhone."
[...]
"So to summarize what I think the specs of the iPhone will be..." - Coffeedemon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Wondering what kind of performance you can expect? Piss-poor. Its 2MP so the pics will be a decent size but the sensor will be the size of your pinky fingernail so it will be a decently sized, poor quality, noisy image. They might be able to get a decent sized sensor in there to get around that issue but I doubt it with that price considering the other features they've already added.
- Jrr6415sun, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I personally think if he didn't spend any time on it in his keynote.. it's probably not that great. I'm not getting my hopes up.
- Namco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Nice research. I wonder if that sensor will fit in my paper iPhone.
- daller, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2really dont think so i cant see any on the pics i seen of it.
- nofxjunkee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It has Flash IIRC so sure YouTube will work. Now recording straight from the camera, that's probably something for the future when they have a better camera but who knows what's up their sleeve.
Intel in Macs, Intel in the AppleTV, seeing as Intel has a kick-ass mobile processor (XScale) I'm willing to bet that the iPhone has Intel Inside(tm) as well. - mvanhorn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3In the "full Safari browser" on the "full OS X" will the iPhone play youtube?
- cybermort, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2do you people realize that a lot of those specs could change by the time the thing ships i mean we are talking June here.
- diggaiden, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2According to David Pogue, it doesn't support Flash:
"Does the Web browser support Flash or Java? –No."
http://pogue.blogs.nytimes.com/2007/01/11/the-ultimate-iphone-frequently-asked-questions/ - Namco, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Then we'll all be scrambling to buy the Apple Phone come June, in the meantime we'll have to print out a new versions of our paper iPhones.
- TheAttacks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I have to disagree, Apple products seem to be of the highest quality in my experience.
- johnpaul191, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i have to say the LG 640x480 cameraphone i used to have took pictures at least as good (probably better) than my current 1.3 MP Moto E815. i did read last year that Kodak and Moto came up with some partnership and Kodak will be (is now?) supplying the camera bits. hopefully that will fix those a bit. i would assume Apple would use half decent parts in it since the camera is going to be scrutinized a bit more than most other cell phones.
- daller, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Really nice phone i will get one as soon as it comes to Europe but the specs for the cam is not grate, then agai i used the cam on my phone 3 times. What i really want to see in the iphone is VoIP integration it mnight come in the future or some 3rd party app.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Could there possibly be something similar to Photo Booth included?
- Vermifax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Until it stops bothering wonderful people, like yourself.
- lasombragh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yes.
- ousama, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1From the pictures we have seen of the backside there is no flash that can be seen.
- kiensoy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3If it records video I hope it has a voice recording feature.
- urbanknight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Still a lot of conjecture though
- BabyWookie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It is great that the iPhone is GSM. It's the only kind of cell that I would ever get, though it also must be unlockable. I'll consider getting it when I can buy it without signing up with Cingular and it's unlocked. Then again, I already have a cell that has a good MP3 player, plenty of memory and a good 2 MP camera. It's a Sony Ericsson W800i.

So why is using a larger image sensor better?
Each photosite itself generates electrical noise that can contaminate its neighbor. In a larger image sensor, the photosites can be physically further apart and thus be less affected by that contamination.
A larger image sensor also means that the photosite can be larger, thus have a larger light gathering capacity. It is therefore able to generate a larger signal to noise ratio.
That is why a digital camera with 6 million pixels crammed into a 1/1.8 in. image sensor has more noise (especially at high ISOs) than a 6MP digital camera using the much larger half-frame (APS-sized) image sensor.
Borrowed from: http://www.photoxels.com/tutorial_noise.html ( since im not all that good explaining it in english ) - Coffeedemon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Lens has an influence? Oh well have fun with the plastic one they'll be putting in there. Laxitive explained it right... you have X number of pixels defined by the MP count. You can put those on a sensor the size of a stamp, the head of a pin or a sheet of paper. You'll always have that *number* of pixels. On a big sensor they'll be big pixels and therefore more sensitive/able to display a better range of colour/tone. You cram them in a wee space like a phone and they'll generate more noise. The reason you saw decent 2MPs outperforming the 4MP cameras is because the 2MP ones were likely made by a company that understood this principle and didn't feel like preying on the naivity of the typical consumer and raving about how many pixels they have in their camera. The same reason my 2MP Canon blows away most 4-5 MP HP point and shoots (photo quality wise not size wise). If all I was interested in making was large images with no regard for "quality" I'd use film and make a pinhole camera with a shoebox - its the equivalent to ~10-20MP depending on who you ask but its going to look like ass.
- daller, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Don't read them if you are not interested
- TheAttacks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Very good point, I have yet to see a flash bulb anywhere on the phone. Although, those pictures from "da club" won't look too nice on my Apple iPhone if they are all black.
- lordsandwich, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Much as I'd agree with you, something tells me it should perform much better than the typical craptastic cameraphone, if only because anything less would've been junked by Steve before it made it to the assembly line. Least that's what I hope.
- todizzytotell, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Gosh, how many 'IPHONE' links will you DIGGERS SUBMIT!
HAS ALL ELSE IN THE WORLD CEASED TO EXIST SINCE THE BIRTH OF IPHONES? - daller, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1probably have a flight setting apple usually thinks about that cinda stuff
- Nogger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The quality / noisyness of an image is not defined by the Magapixel count of the sensor. E.g, the lens has a great influence. I have seen (non mobile) quality cameras with 2MP taking pictures of better quality than el-cheapo 4MP ones.
- lasombragh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Considering Apple has/had the iSight, it wouldn't be surprising if something similar quality-wise went into the phone.
- kwago, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5No, more like the Anti-Rape of the English Language Button that you failed to use.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1If this thing's going to be my movie player and my phone....can I watch movies on a plane, or is the phone going to try to automatically activate itself?
- 1KrazyKorean, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2This phone's coolness will affect the handset market AND carrier markets. The Apple phone looks like the shiznit and I know techie dweebs within my own company who are claiming to want it.
The price of the phone is very expensive, (500 to 600 dollars), but yet I get the impression that many will be setting aside funds to acquire the new phone and will jump ship from their CDMA carrier to join Cingular (GSM). GSM is a "global standard" technology. It is only smart of Apple to make a super-phone that is GSM because of the greater market world-wide.
Cingular and T-Mobile are both GSM here in the states.
Verizon is CDMA - which is the dominant technology in North America ... for the time being. What I predict is that GSM will eventually take over as a "World Phone" technology.
So, if this "iPhone" performs as well as it is advertised, I see it creating a huge shift in both handset sales and carrier subscriptions here in the states. - blackjack75, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1There are similar apps (though not realtime) running on simple J2ME phones:
http://www.mobile31.com/index.php?p=v&id=7&l=en
So you could definitely run something *like* Photobooth. To run the same app engine you would need CoreImage support in this "OSX". And I doubt this things runs a Radeon 1600. - durazine, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1HOLY *****...APPLE FINALLY MADE A PHONE!
my cave gets lonely. - g3buz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1suggested title: "detailed speculation on the iphone camera". buried as inaccurate.
- blackjack75, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1You would need several more dicks than you have at your disposal.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The difference is that now they are bashing the iPhone, and that's rather good. :-)
- OutlawSamurai, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@ awhiteflame
Apple did have their own implementation of Flash available in QuickTime. Although, speculation as to whether or not the iPhone is going to support it is pointless. - Brandondork, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I bet its a crummy CMOS camera, which my 1.3 CCD is better than a 4.0 CMOS
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Flush this turd-like phone down the toilet. Crapple is a ***** company.
- Sell, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4Jesus, how many of these are there going to be???!??? How many freakin articles about the iPhone can one read before its all the same *****. It's not news anymore!!!!! Let it go.
- csudhoff, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I still would like to see an apple published list of specs instead of reading the "spec"

30/60 gig storage
I want a 5mp camera and ability to shoot mpeg-4 video at 30fps with stereo sound.
Then I will shell out $500
Only then can I ditch my camera, video camera, PDA ,I-Pod and phone. - supermanKD, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Have you used windows xp it needs a de-Microsoft button. The only thing gay about OSX is that people are to dumb to switch to it.
