- lemz, on 10/12/2007, -5/+66This post is crap because:
1. dell doesn't resemble any iApple what so ever in any shape or form
2. dell is actualy mobile (not portable)
3. dell has deattachable bluetooth keyboard
4. dell has full remote (not a castrated version with 3 buttons)
5. dell has a tv tuner, something that apple still hasn't figured out how to include
6. filed under "apple"
7. files with a clear intent to slander dell as opposed to report a news article - mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -9/+47not sure why this is being compared the imac.. the design is much different.
this was made to be a portable laptop/desktop hybrid - i think it is a pretty innovative product. - cliffzdude, on 10/12/2007, -5/+32Exactly, iMac clone? Not even...
- MoeB, on 10/12/2007, -8/+35Why are you morons comparing this to the iMac. There are no similarities!
- cyrix, on 10/12/2007, -3/+28Where did Dell actually claim that this is their answer to the iMac?
I mean ffs, I could see if they actually claimed that, but they haven't. - noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -6/+30I don't think it was really meant to be a laptop, it wouldn't stand up on your lap anyway.
The way they made it look like a breifcase suggests to me that this is a tool for people wh want to be able to take their desktop with them. Its specs are way higher than a standard laptop would be anyway.
Besides... 20 lbs is not that heavy. Babies. - moisie, on 10/12/2007, -19/+43It may be a good idea/product but it still looks crap.
- SilentPurity, on 10/12/2007, -21/+44You guys should all be saying "iSuck" to yourself...
This doesn't even look anything like an iMac so whoever make that assumption should be say "iDumb" to his/herself. - TheReport, on 10/12/2007, -3/+26The only thing I thought was intresting was the infared technology with the remote, people should exploit that technology more, I betting some really intresting things could be created with it
- h2d2, on 10/12/2007, -12/+32^ Exactly. Even C|Net didn't mention a word about Apple or iMac in their review.
But apparently, if you need to bash a product on digg, just compare it to an Apple product.
(Oh, and look at all the diggers leaving comments on C|Net about how bad the product is, I doubt if any of them know anything about it than what they've read. For God's sake, C|Net gave it a "very good" rating!) - jjk5, on 10/12/2007, -8/+28Last time I saw a guy who went to LAN parties, we made fun of him for being a total dork. He even picked on people's choice in computers. Talk about no life right?!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+25Agreed. How is this "Dell's version of the iMac"? Marked as inaccurate.
- fatdog789, on 10/12/2007, -6/+23How is this in any way similar to the iMac?
Marked as inaccurate. - BassCadet, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16Every attempt to make a laptop or portable mp3 player is now called an "iMac killer" or "iPod killer".
Folks, not everybody in the world aspires to buy Apple products. - MrStylz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14I have a gyro mouse that I use for my pc and htpc. You'd be surprised as to how well you can see the mouse. The gyro mouse rocks.
- tokyopimp, on 10/12/2007, -7/+20Look at all the Macboys on Digg (no suprise), and the worst part is, if it was painted a sleek shiny white, and had OSX all of you Macboys would be buying it. And your a godamn liar if you say you wouldn't.
It's neat as hell, and if I could afford one I would, that would be a kick ass desktop replacment, that would be great for lan parties.
Why the hell does every freaking Digg story have to compare everything related to desktops/laptops/and MP3 players to. iMacs/MacBooks/and iPods? They are not the end all be all of tech! - lemz, on 10/12/2007, -6/+18"wow the cool remote mouse is so pointless, unless you have binoculars you won't be able to control it from across the room and you'd look like a fool trying to do that a meter (3.28ft) away."
two words for you brother... "tv out" - DanMD, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11I still don't understand how this is in any way related to the iMac.......
it's in a completely different price range, it does a completely different set of things........
I'm pretty sure this is a multimedia powerhouse desktop intended for the gaming/tech savvy crowd....
Nothing about this product is comparable to the iMac, it's in no way related unless you're too dense to see through the very small similarity of the design. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Dell stole Nintendo's idea!
- Jimboe1337, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13No Digg, not even close to being an iMac. Very Inaccurate.
- gcnaddict, on 10/12/2007, -6/+15"the built in webcam was originally apples concept."
Actually, Sony integrated webcams into their computers before Apple (they integrated webcams into their Vaio laptops and Clie handhelds). There may have been other companies who did it earlier but I am fairly certain that Sony was the first.
I actually like the system shown here. It's good for people who are on-the-move-enough to need their computer to come with them but dont need to use it on the plane or whatnot. - goat77, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10This thing is in no way i-macish. You people are fools. It's basically just a large laptop and you people feel the need to bring apple into the fray?
- drog, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Why is this in the apple category?
- lonnieh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Yeah, everyone knows that the IntelĀ® Graphics Media Accelerator 950 is "no slouch". 10 FPS in Far Cry at 800x600 is where its at. I heard somewhere that your eye cannot distinguish any more than 10 FPS.
http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2427&p=1 - Clbck, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Yeah, taking this to lan parties would be sweet as hell. It would be a hell of a lot better than lugging around a bulky desktop comp + monitor
- chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Don't compare it to the iMac. It's $3500 for christs sake, which is in a completely different price range than an iMac is. If someone was in the market to buy an iMac, chances are they were never consider this Dell anyway. Not to understate Dell's accomplishment, it looks like a nice piece of engineering, but please don't compare it to the iMac. It's not necessary.
- MioTheGreat, on 10/12/2007, -7/+13You're right. It's an interesting design....It has promise for things like LAN Partys...
Still, had Apple released it, the Mac fanboys would be out in droves heralding the dawn of a new era of computing, or whatever. - Kujila, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Hell, that looks pretty swag, I'd buy that.
Using it as a notebook is the worst idea ever, though. If a normal laptop can make men infertile, I'm sure this Dell XPS could melt people's legs off, or something to that effect... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5What a great name - ah the ol' Dell XPS M2010. Rolls off the tongue.
- BinaryJay, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8I for one, as a "veteran" PC user, who also makes a living as a developer, happen to think this is a pretty cool product. I wouldn't pay the premium for it myself but whether or not it's the right product for everybody misses the point that this thing has some very valid and interesting innovations.
I agree with one of the previous posters that mentioned that if it were exactly the same but painted white and had a big apple logo on the top the same people condemning the Dell would be camped outside their local Apple store in their beer gut stretched Chewbacca t-shirts waiting to spend $1000 more for it. - marix, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9this on the front page is a good example of why digg sucks balls lately. Someone loaded it up saw the pic and dugg it. Its a notebook w/ expandability not a ***** imac at all.
- angeloloria, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5For $3,500 I would expect more than an 80GB hard drive. that's ridiculous.
- bayonetblaha, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5ihavenoname, what the hell are you talking about?
TV out... you use the mouse/remote to control what you see on the TV, it's actually not that complicated... - MrC539, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I'm an avid Mac user and all, so naturally I'd love to accuse Dell of copying the iMac, but I don't think it's fair to call that a ripoff of the iMac.
- AJRiddle, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Innacurate, this is nothing like an iMac.
- Chmarr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5No digg (and I'm thinking lots of anti-diggs) for the inaccurate reference to iMac.
Lame. - trunkster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yeah it's not just a iMac copy but Wii as well.
- dotpage, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4eeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwww, I'll keep my MacIntel
- Swift2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4$4,675. That's all you have to say. Top of the line iMac: $1760, with a bluetooth keyboard and mouse.
You know, if people want to use this for whatever features (Hey! At that price, it has a better video card! Well, I hope so.), that's fine with me. But I've got to say, their attempt at styling is just about the ugliest thing I've ever seen. Jonathan Ives has nothing to fear.
I thought Apples were the expensive ones? - siouxmoux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yes! Luggable Computers are back. Its like R&D department for Dell were inspired by those old PC Lunch box style PCs from back 1985!
- bayonetblaha, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7because they like to think everyone copies apple... it's fun
- Gardenhead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The imac is actually 2 pounds more, oddly enough. Still feels a hell of a lot more compact than this dell though. Almost everything I see about these two are comparable, the screen's are probably the same LG panel, the processors are comparable, the only difference is the x1800, and the RAM.
- nstern2, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9I should start putting apple related words into my headlines to get them front paged. Someone explain the Imac likeness cause I just don't see it.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Looks nothing like an Imac........quit trying to make the comparison. It's a nice hybrid of sorts. Yay for them getting on the engineering. I like to see different styles of comps.
- pianodude, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4How about a link to Dell's actual website: http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/xpsnb_m2010
Give me a break, stop comparing this to the iMac. I actually like its design. The built in handle, detachable keyboard, 20.1 inch screen...all with a sleek, portable design. Yeah, it's going to be expensive...what new high-end computers aren't? - ebs16, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5@TheReport: "The only thing I thought was intresting was the infared technology with the remote, people should exploit that technology more, I betting some really intresting things could be created with it"
It's called the Wii - Boondoggle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Oh really jackass, did that Crateway come out before 1997???
http://www.apple-history.com/?page=gallery&model=anniversary&performa=off&sort=date&order=ASC - marix, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5your imac has a raid array? has a top end video card? 20 inch display? similar specs my ass.
- trik, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3who the ***** sumbitted this article under the premise that xp3 was to compete with imac? this was not intended to be anything like imac, it was solely for pc gaming and trying to get a feel for the gamer market before they just bought alien ware
- igneon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Well, if you read any of the previous comments, you'd see that at least one person has mentioned it would be great for lan parties.
