- judicar, on 12/30/2008, -2/+71Dear Alley Insider: You'll get your ***** tablet when I think you're ready for it.
Signed,
Steve - lepetitmousse, on 12/30/2008, -11/+63No, it's time for something i can afford.

- Slacker1031, on 12/30/2008, -3/+29Here's an idea. your favorite company doesn't always have to make the products you want/need.
- MuffinFlavored, on 12/30/2008, -2/+27I have imagined many devices, but they have never made it to the front page of Digg.
- inactive, on 12/30/2008, -4/+28Hmm.. For $600-$700 I would rather just buy a laptop.
- UltimatrixmaN, on 12/30/2008, -0/+18As if TabletPC's weren't expensive enough, let's just add Apple to the mix so they jack on another $2000 on top of an already $2000 low-end notebook. I can see it now, the $4500 iTouchmyself Pro.
- rick2k, on 12/30/2008, -14/+32just get a MACBOOK FOR ***** SAKE.
Net books are total wank. - virtualonliner, on 12/30/2008, -2/+20Apple Netbook will cost more than $1000.
- surfwax95, on 12/30/2008, -6/+22I just bought an MSI Wind and loaded it up with OS X. It runs great and is exactly what I wanted…for about $700 less than what Apple will come up with.
- wrenchone, on 12/30/2008, -0/+15Here you go, all for the low, low price of 1 cent.

- carbonfilament, on 12/30/2008, -2/+13I was reading comments and responding in this thread when I suddenly realized that I don't care.
- Ressah, on 12/30/2008, -3/+13no, it's called the "Apple tax"
- HamNCheese, on 12/30/2008, -2/+11Jesus Christ, this just won't die.
- Shabrainiac, on 12/30/2008, -6/+15Just 31 diggs to get on the front page?
- MtheoryX, on 12/30/2008, -1/+10Well, I think he's just a guy doing his job to make some money.
No biblical prophet correlation needed. - rgersmrk, on 12/30/2008, -1/+9It already does. It's called the Macbook Air. Welcome to the $1800 netbook.
- HouseofEl, on 12/30/2008, -0/+8I don't understand the need for a tablet, but others also didn't see the point in the dual monitor laptop from a few days ago. I can't see them making a netbook. They should, but I'm still skeptical that Apple would sell anything under their bloated price points.
- TVarmy, on 12/30/2008, -0/+8I think you need to update Quicktime. It sounds like your shock battery has gone low if you dare to doubt that Jobs is always right.
- AikoMiko, on 12/30/2008, -0/+8Dear Steve Jobs,
You're too old to rock. No more Rockin' for you. - mattsull, on 12/30/2008, -1/+8I can see it now.
Pentium 2 266mhz
64mb Ram
2gig harddrive
$799 - 560Benz, on 12/29/2008, -4/+10i think steve jobs is no more of a prophet than the rest of us
- Earlofnecromium, on 12/30/2008, -9/+15Cry more Apple Hipsters.
- pathetik, on 12/30/2008, -2/+8Aluminium Brick, 999 $, 12 inch, matte screen = sky rocket my apple stock ;0)
- Sonixunite, on 12/30/2008, -0/+6There are actually 2 touchscreen tablet netbooks in existance. Both are not available in the US as of now.
- archer75, on 12/30/2008, -1/+7yeah, because tablets have really taken off. And apple notebooks are expensive I can't imagine them selling a netbook for $350. And if it's any more expensive it would defeat the purpose.
What apple needs to give us is an upgradable tower. No, not the mac pro, that's a workstation. I'm talking Core 2 Duo, DDR2 or DDR3 ram. Parts for these type of computers are inexpensive. - Gndoab, on 12/30/2008, -13/+19Dear Random Website.
I smile when I think of how much money you give me when buying my crappy products.
Steve Jobs - knodi, on 12/30/2008, -3/+9Drop your prices!!
- AmusedToDeath, on 12/30/2008, -1/+7Indeed, I thought iTablet would have been more obvious.
- clark24, on 12/30/2008, -0/+6They already sell the iPad at retailers all around Boston.
- benologist, on 12/30/2008, -0/+6The market is portability.... if you travel a lot there is a big difference even between a 14.1" and 12.1" laptop. Netbooks come in at an even smaller screensize that used to be reserved for umpc's that cost a lot and were hard to use.
- Jeepinator, on 12/30/2008, -1/+7you dont have to be registered to read digg. I wasnt registered for years. I started coming here when Mr. Rose made the site while he was on the Screen Savers and didn't register until last year.
- cerealjynx, on 12/30/2008, -1/+7You can get a white Macbook for $999.
It even has an optical drive, nifty!! - ExRe, on 12/30/2008, -1/+6I think an Apple netbook (let alone tablet) would cost quite a bit more than $1200.
- luckless, on 12/30/2008, -0/+5The guy in the article should really read up on what is available on the market before criticizing tablet PCs.
Not all tablet PCs out now are made in the convertible notebook form-factor, quite a few are made in the slate form factor which means 8-14 inch screen, NO keyboard and much slimmer. Quite a few of them also use both touchscreen and wacom digitizers together, which means the perks of pressure sensitivity with a special stylus as well as a regular touchscreen for everyday use (ex. Motion slate PCs).
In fact slate tablets are used a lot in the medical field now as they make getting patient records, etc. much easier than fiddling with a bunch of papers and folders. - snaglepuss, on 12/30/2008, -2/+7It's call the Newton.
http://www.stateoftheark.co.nz/images/apple_newton ... - Mactard, on 12/30/2008, -1/+6and remember it is not a PC, even though the components are the same.
- TrancePhreak, on 12/30/2008, -0/+5I've seen Netbooks ranging from $200 to $450, and they all had XP included, no need to buy it seperate.
- carbonfilament, on 12/30/2008, -1/+6While true in one sense, not very accurate since the Air is to netbooks as lotus is to smartcar.
- racerx8413, on 12/30/2008, -5/+10Something we can all afford, and something that serves more function that Itunes and Internet.
Seriously, the Mac has so many more uses that ITunes or Safari, please stop showing advertisements with emo kids playing itunes and hooking up their Ipods to it. Yes please, I would like to pay 1700 bucks for a very fancy ITUNES PLAYER. - BrendanSheehan, on 12/30/2008, -0/+5My guess is they have something big planned, that uses a multi-touch screen as its only form of input, but it's just not ready yet, and we'll hear about it when it is. Call me crazy, but I think an Apple tablet at this stage is a given - it just won't be a netbook, and certainly won't be priced like a netbook. Think $999+
- drmobutu, on 12/30/2008, -0/+5Apple does make a netbook, but they grossly overpriced it...
- asspants, on 12/30/2008, -1/+6FISH IN A BARREL
- CoreyTamas, on 12/30/2008, -2/+7Though it's not on the radar at the moment, Apple does occasionally surprise everyone by taking a leap into something that's new territory for them. Sometimes it works (iPod), sometimes not (Mac Cube). Thing is, when they *do* take a leap... it's into something new. Therefore, if they're going to do a tablet or netbook, they're going to have to do something than simply make a bigger iPod Touch. It has to do something that the iPod Touch *won't* do in order to be worth the effort... and the price.
- damonic, on 12/30/2008, -1/+6Dear alleyinsider.com: Steve Jobs doesn't give a ***** what you want.
- lancedice, on 12/30/2008, -0/+4Damn! 2 gig HD? I'll take two!
- rolf, on 12/30/2008, -0/+4"That would be all good and well but you know Apple would go down the DRM route like they have with the iTunes store where you can already currently buy eBooks."
Yes, but iTunes Plus you can get DRM-free tracks and they made it retroactive and cheap, so most criticisms don't apply to Apple but the publishers who refuse to release it DRM-free via iTunes:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ITunes_Store#Movement ...
It won't be any different at Amazon or any place that gets traction. DRM will be a reality because publishers demands it, not the store. And when people get pissed, it will only then change.
"If you want a dedicated eBook Reader, the BeeBook is quite nice, screen is legible from pretty much any angle, its not backlit and can be read very easily in angled sunlite."
Well, with ereaders, I'm automatically talking about e-ink screens as default. I'll check it out. - Pliep, on 12/30/2008, -1/+5Tablets were a fad a year ago.
Netbooks are a fad now.
Apple doesn't do fads. -
