- Bassguy, on 10/12/2007, -9/+38Wow... That is actually kind of cool. I might actually buy something off of iTunes for a change. This is a step in the right direction.
- databyss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23$9.99 = 16 episodes
16 episodes x 20 minute each = 320 minutes.
999 cents / 320 minutes = 3.12 cents per minute.
and it's 4 shows a week, not 1. - ANorton, on 11/02/2007, -0/+19You might want to learn how to divide 10/16 = .625 per episode.
- tsunamisteve, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18I think this is a good step forward for now, until networks start also offering ad-filled, but free, episodes.
- farfromsubtl, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21This is still to expensive to deter people from torrenting the episodes.
- Bigcat1021, on 10/12/2007, -9/+26Let me translate Geterix's comments for everyone:
10 minutes of Bush bashing = 10 minutes of reporting the White House's daily activities
5 minutes of cluessless looks from Stewart = Host trying to come to grips with said activities
5 minutes of audiance cheering for no reason = Intelligent audience agreeing with host
2 minutes of some left-wing nut pushing his new Bush bashing book = 2 minutes of some left wing nut pushing his new non-fiction book
8 minutes of ads = 8 minutes of downtime to grab a drink/snack/bathroom break - dallen, on 10/12/2007, -5/+21Yes there is The Colbert Report too. Try clicking the link, it helps
- SniperGX1, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16Thats cool, too bad they are DRM crippled. Guess I will stick to bit torrent automated through RSS
- wdbetts, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Its a lot cheaper then paying for the cable/satellite company’s bundle. I like the Daily Show and the Colbert Report, but I don’t want to pay for 8 channels of the Home Shopping network.
- Anth, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Its really all about which is more expensive...
5 DS episodes per week = 22 (usually) episodes per month (forget about reruns for now).
22 epsides @ .62 = $13.74/mo x 2 (if you want Colbert Report) = $27.48
So if all you do with your $40/mo cable bill (plus any DVR fees) is watch TDS and CR then you can cancel now and subscribe through iTunes. Its unlikely though. I watch enough other programming to make this not worth it. If I had to pay this much for all my content a la carte I'd be doubling my monthly bill (or reducing what I watch). - mcaaronice, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Don't forget "How much you want to bet this post will get modded down...." translates to "People will call me on this BS post."
- amandaw33, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12I need PVR. Why pay 62 cents an episode... when I can record it for free. I can't tell you how much I record on my Media PC (streams to my 360)... I'd be spending a fortune at 62 cents an episode. I seriously probably record/watch 4 shows a day, plus movies, etc, for free. That's about $70/month + movie costs, etc
Pricing needs to come down. - peerk, on 11/02/2007, -1/+10Good point there Mr. Math genius.
Stay in school kids. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10"Most likely problem is they can't force you to watch the ads - so advertisers won't pay for it. Unless of course iTunes is updated to disable fast forwarding or something evil along those lines..."
But they can't force you to watch the commercials as it is *now*, thanks to DVRs. And they never *could* thanks to . . . you know . . . free-will and being able to get up and take a dump during commercials. - spunkmyer, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11digg for the multi-pass.
ah, Milla Jovovich. Sorry, had a moment there. - Bigcat1021, on 11/02/2007, -4/+12It is impossible to legally watch "The Daily Show" without paying for it either though cable/satellite/itunes. So yeah, you should thank Apple for providing another option.
Oh, wait. You live with your parents. Never mind, it is free for you. - mattjumbo, on 11/02/2007, -10/+17"10 minutes of Bush bashing

I'm a supporter of the President and I find Stewart pretty funny. Yes, he is a fairly run-of-the-mill liberal mouthpiece but his comedy is frequently clever. And he does at least take shots at the Dems from time to time. Unlike, say, NBC news.Digg. - mooseboy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11I have only three words for you... Corbin Dallas, Multipass
- victory, on 10/12/2007, -14/+21Posted this earlier but I guess I need a better headline. People don't care about iTunes, it's about The Daily Show!
http://digg.com/apple/iTunes_Music_Store_Selling_Pre-Paid_Subscriptions - superunlikely, on 11/02/2007, -1/+8Because you suck at math?
- Bishoco, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8That's what I'd like to see. I can't justify buying these shows, but I'd love to be able to download for free with ads.
- Nik420, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I love the Daily Show and Colbert Report, but for us in Canada the show is broadcast over the air on CTV every night (or every hour for 4 hours on any satellite provider with timeshifting).
Why would you want to pay almost 1/2 the cost of a subscription to basic cable for 1 or 2 shows that are on for free here. Same thing for Lost or many of these shows on network television. Is this cost just to skip commercials (which you can do anyway if you record the signal yourself somehow) really worth that much?
I am really tired of media companies trying to nickel and dime us to death with these subscription based services. As a new parent twice in the last 3 years I have too many other expenses on my hands to cave into that. I watch shows on regular TV, or get them from p2p if I really like them enough to watch more than once. I am so glad downloading is still legal here. - mongrel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Most likely problem is they can't force you to watch the ads - so advertisers won't pay for it. Unless of course iTunes is updated to disable fast forwarding or something evil along those lines...
- quasipalm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Why don't they offer a free version with commecials, and a paid one without. You know, basically like their offline business model.
- Zukunft, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Man, 60 or so cents per episode. Not bad. I agree, this is a step in the right direction.
Oh, and it's Korben, not Corbin. ;) - aristan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6(I posted this to a dupe thread, so I'll post it here too...)
The album concept for TV Shows.
9.99 for 16 eps with Multipass
32.84 for 16 eps bought separately.
62 cents per ep w/ Multipass
1.99 each separately?
I'd definitely buy these if, you know, I had a video iPod and didn't have basic cable. :) - the_mole1314, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Also they have the Colbert Report out too for iTunes. Same deal.
- snowthrower, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Forget Daily Show. Its all about the truthiness of The Colbert Report ;)
- kevbryant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Im gonna agree as well, i would like free or very low fee ad supported episodes, not to mention portability, and a price decreae, while it may seem reasonable to pay 10 as compared to other shows at 2 a pop, i get all of them in a cable bill that is only 40/month. its a step. but Id like to see a similar model and price on itunes or the internet somewhere, pay per month, get ad supported, pay premium, get no ads on individual or a few shows like this.
- monkeyrun, on 11/02/2007, -0/+5"Now tell me, why the hell would i pay 10 bucks for 16 episodes, $1.60 an episode."
LOL best coment ever. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Corbin Dallas Multi Pass
- hammerattack, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Actually, Leloo has this line. "Leloo Dallas Multipass..."
- vinny, on 10/12/2007, -7/+11"I get four episodes a week. In crisp quality. FOR FREE. "
You realize the stealing something is not the same as getting it for free right? - Markdoggin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5How ITMS Wins:
1. Offer Full HD (1080p) Content (or best available)
2. Free Downloads of Unskippable Ad Supported Content
3. Pay Extra for No Ads
4. Expand TV Store (Every TV Show Ever Produced!)
5. Add Movie Store (To include Every Movie Ever Produced! For $10)
6. Multi-Pass to your Favorite TV Shows (At least they've started)
7. Opt-in Subscription Based Music Model ($10/mo. For Unlimited Music, 10 cents more to own forever)
8. Live Streaming Content For Big Events (Being able to watch the Superbowl Live, Oscars, Watch your favorite Baseball Team every game out of market)
If they can pull this off say goodbye to Cable and Satellite Providers, but they'll probably still charge us an arm and a leg for Broadband and/or FIOS. - 00011000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I wonder how many shows are going take on this format for downloading. With improved quality and ever-increasing broadband speeds. Apple's plan is becoming clear. PVR? who needs PVR?
- lane.montgomery, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5This is the future of the iTMS. I was wondering if they were going to offer a flat subscription, but this seems like a nice compromise between individual and subscription downloads.
FYI this is also the big reason as to why Apple doesn't care for the mini to be used as a PVR because they want you to eventually consume all of your content in this fashion. - dongiaconia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4This show is the only thing I have missed since unplugging myself from the coax life drain. I will definitely be paying my $9.99+ a month to watch the show. Absolutely worth it!
- el_jefe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Recording is free for you, but you are already paying for the episodes if you have a cable or Satellite subscription. I dont get why people who already pay for the content, would pay for the content again just for the ease of putting it on a mobile device. Now if you don't have cable or Sat, then itunes makes it easy to get the content you want, without buying 60,000 channels you dont want.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -20/+23$10 for one episode per week for four months?! Figure the average episode is 20 minutes. You're willing to pay a nickel a minute to get just one show per week? That's ridiculous. I would pay a quarter per show and only if I could select from every show of the week.
This reminds me, I was using Comcast OnDemand to watch some show from CBS the other night. I didn't even know the show was on anymore, so I hadn't Tivo'd it. It was 99 cents, so I figured "great"!. It was two hours long.
Anyway, I watched it . . . AND THERE WERE COMMERCIALS EVERY SIX MINUTES!
Why the ***** are they CHARGING people to watch pre-recorded content WITH COMMERCIALS. Worse, commercials that you CAN NOT SKIP.
What a rip off. - cambrown99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If I didn't already have cable and a Tivo, I would be all over this. Actually, since I only watch Daily Show, Battlestar Galactica, and Lost, that would be a max of $26 per month... (less subtracting reruns) maybe I should get rid of cable?
- fiznarp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3FYI there are no commercials in the iTunes version. At least none in the episode of The Daily Show that I just downloaded.
- Weenis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I like the idea of this... however, I can't see buying the daily show like this. They show it several times the next day and even repeat a few hours after it airs if you miss it. Unless you can't ever catch it, don't have TiVO or DVR I can't see how it's worth watching it on your iPod every day.
I'm glad to see any show availiable for download, it's just I see this as impractical to actually buy. - SatansMagicHat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"$10 for one episode per week for four months?!"
Read the article. It says nothing like that.
For future reference, before submitting a comment, please, PLEASE read the article first. - OsakaWilson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'm very happy for the Daily Show and Colbert Report, but since Apple won't allow people outside America buy the shows, no digg. Whatever business model they are using which will not allow me to give them my money is nothing less that stupid.
- Otto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The DRM is basically the same FairPlay DRM that they put on their music downloads too. So no, it won't play on XBMC. Better set up that torrent downloader instead.
- br0ken1128, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3
He certainly favors the dems but he takes aim at them too, I like his humor because it's intelligent..
It's a very fun way to get introduced to current events even if it's biased, without the daily show I'd have no real interest in politics and would probably be generally uninformed. - amandaw33, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'm with anth on this one. Not only does my $60 cable bill cover the shows I watch, but also each member of the household has "their shows" which would be an additional charge if they were available in this format.
I'm positive my $70/month downloaded... if I added my boyfriend it'd be ~$100
This is TV shows only, doesn't account for the occassional HBO/TCM movie we catch too.
If pricing comes down with competition, bring on a la carte IPTV (hopefully other places than iTunes)
And I also get cable internet for an additional $40/month. Unless I want to switch to verizon DSL (eh), I have to keep some sort of basic cable as well. - Macknal, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4It is free in the sense that you can watch show segments on the daily show website gratis.
- dusingaz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yeah Kilborn was soooooo... funny. He is just killing them on his late, late, late show right?
- Proginoskes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Can someone enlighten me: What's the DRM like? Can I or can I not take the file I downloaded and play it on a non-ipod player, such as Xboxmediacenter?
If not, I'll continue to steal via bittorrent. (Or I would continue if I'd already started. My files are a mess and I haven't been in the mood to add anything to that mess lately.) -
