- jakbrud, on 08/20/2008, -3/+129Comeon apple. Isnt it a little ***** ridiculous that someone had to develop a framework to get copy/paste functionality.
- KudoKid, on 08/20/2008, -14/+132Dugg. Great news Cali. =) All the App developers need to add it in as soon as they can. Hopefully the word spreads fast!
Dear Apple,
Flash,
MMS,
Video.
That is all. - algaeturd, on 08/20/2008, -10/+74The fact that this STILL isn't a basic function of the iPhone shows its shortcomings in a huge way. And then with the 3Gs pissing out all over the place, I'm glad I didn't buy one of those buggers. Apple should get the thing RIGHT before releasing it and getting it right entails having a basic, functional copy/paste command.
It REALLY couldn't be that hard, could it Apple? - photonut13, on 08/20/2008, -9/+58Let me fix that, it should read
Dear Apple,
Flash
Copy, Paste
Video
That is all.
MMS is expensive and pointless to use, why not send an email? At least you allready paied for your data package, why not use it? - NeoNightmareX, on 08/20/2008, -4/+53Attention everyone. Testicles. That is all. /Family Guy
- brendanryder, on 08/20/2008, -9/+47cali lewis is hawt.
- inactive, on 08/20/2008, -1/+39"Copy" Error: Nothing selected, please try again.
- daynah, on 08/20/2008, -13/+43Wonderful breaking news!
- joduba, on 08/20/2008, -3/+29Hi thanks for the note, it's great!
Two points:
A) It's a shame that Apple have not yet implemented Copy&Paste.
B) It's a bigger shame that Apple doesn't allow developers to collaborate, share ... this is really "Think different ,but in the wrong way!"
Well done, I will support openclip.org - inactive, on 08/20/2008, -1/+24It's lame that you need from a third party developer to get a basic feature such as copy and paste.
- inactive, on 08/20/2008, -8/+29some people work for a living and need that stuff, yes
- buckygrad, on 08/20/2008, -1/+21And even more ridiculous that the terms of the SDK dictate apps cannot work together on the iPhone. They must really want to concede the business market to BlackBerry.
- Ben174, on 08/20/2008, -1/+21Because 90% of my friends don't have an iPhone and are clueless on setting up email on their phones. But the picture messages they send me are actually quite entertaining. It sucks missing out on those, or having to wait till I'm at a computer to check the MMS of the boobie shot some whore sent me last night.
- ADIDAS247, on 08/20/2008, -1/+21You can send mms (I have confirmed on verizon) I have not confirmed if you can receive.
just add the phone number and the carriers mms address.
Alltel = xxxxxxxxxx@message.alltel.com
AT&T = xxxxxxxxxx@mms.att.net
Boost Mobile = xxxxxxxxxx@myboostmobile.com
Cingular (AT&T) = xxxxxxxxxx@mms.mycingular.com
Einstein PCS = xxxxxxxxxx@einsteinmms.com
Sprint = xxxxxxxxxx@messaging.sprintpcs.com
T-Mobile = xxxxxxxxxx@tmomail.net
US Cellular = xxxxxxxxxx@mms.uscc.net
Verizon Wireless = xxxxxxxxxx@vzwpix.com
Virgin Mobile = xxxxxxxxxx@vmobl.com - IncredibleHink, on 08/20/2008, -11/+27Seriously, copy and paste has been a key deciding factor for you?
- damirK, on 08/20/2008, -7/+22buried for the fact that copy/paste is a basic operation and NO ONE should ever have to get excited over it!
- davep206, on 08/20/2008, -3/+18Great to see someone figuring out something Apple's not considering a priority, but the rest of us are dying for!
- morganb, on 08/20/2008, -8/+22sweet - seems like a brilliant workaround!
- wttoro, on 08/20/2008, -1/+11Uhhh... because sending an email has no effect on mms being received and the horrid viewmymessage.com solution.
And as far as I know, SwirlyMMS is the only jailbreak app that performs this and requires a change in your plan that disables Visual Voicemail. So still not quite there, though I'm sure it works. - fribhey, on 08/20/2008, -3/+13gum smiles are not hot
- kraetos, on 08/20/2008, -3/+12Boo Flash. No I don't want the battery life worse than it already is simply from loading annoying, obtrusive Flash ads which suck bandwidth and CPU cycles. Thought experiment: what would you USE mobile Flash for, anyway? Games wouldn't work without a mouse and keyboard. YouTube links open in the YouTube app. When I encounter a link to a video that isn't YouTube, I can almost always find a copy of the same video by searching YouTube.
Boo MMS. No I don't want to pay 10¢ to receive a picture of your elbow fat pushed together to look like someone's ass. If Apple wants to try and push the adoption of mobile email, I'm all for it.
I'll take Copy & Paste and video recording, though. - TsuaSai, on 08/20/2008, -1/+9Of course its not that hard! just a matter of getting them to do it... mms isn't hard either.
- hagfish70, on 08/20/2008, -5/+13Sidekick? Pffff, hope your not older than 12.
- amenic, on 08/20/2008, -1/+8Software is never a deterrent for me typically. However, I'm waiting for:
1.) A removable battery (4.5 hours / day doesn't cut it). Detachable batteries are standard. Not having one does not make a functional phone "smart". If Apple wants to keep the battery built in, they are going to have to put some kind of passive solar charging device in.
2.) Expandable and removable storage. I don't care what form factor or interface it uses. There's no excuse not to have a micro SD slot or USB port or maybe even both.
3.) Reasonable contracts with reasonable companies. And not AT&T does NOT count. - insertAliasHere, on 08/20/2008, -0/+7I am a developer, you ass. Somehow I doubt that they "sacrificed" copy/paste for something else. It's a simple thing, so small, that the oversight is ridiculous. I mean, someone completely unaffiliated with apple did it; how much easier would it have been for Apple to get their dev team to integrate it into the core framework?
***** apologists. I own a 1st gen iPhone, and like it a lot, but I don't ignore its flaws. - bbqsalad, on 08/20/2008, -1/+8She is average at best, not too mention she is incredibly annoying and way too cutesy and happy.
http://nerdyaffiliates.com/images/cali_lewis_geekb ... yuk - masonreloaded, on 08/20/2008, -0/+7But its such a freaking basic feature that missing it is inexcusable! Its like a keyboard missing a semicolon or something - yeah when you say "well its only one key and it has all these other ones you can use". Yes but its a basic feature that nearly every computer based text application has had for more than a decade - and most people do rely on. I know I use mine on my BB all the time - for copying addresses/phone numbers to and from emails to contacts, into Google Maps etc.
- supersteve, on 08/20/2008, -0/+6i have had it for a month and could have used it many times. finding a pen and paper to jot down someones phone number so i can email or SMS it to them is not acceptable on a phone that runs OS X
- TsuaSai, on 08/20/2008, -1/+7Nope. Apple wouldn't let you do that...
- masterkenobi, on 08/20/2008, -0/+6Same goes for my i760.
- worminater, on 08/20/2008, -3/+9Sending an email to someone rather than mms works perfectly to someone's non pda phone.
- UltraMegaFilms, on 08/20/2008, -0/+6Is that a joke? I can't tell if you are being sarcastic, or you just bandwagon like Apple is a religion. Revolution? Are you serious? Apple will not make a revolution, because Apple is far too concerned with getting people like you locked in on the new shiny thing. They convince you that they are the best with their marketing, and then you go around talking about it like its the second coming of Christ! IT'S A PHONE! And I own one, so you can skip that bit.
- blorc, on 08/20/2008, -0/+5Did you seriously type that with a straight face? Calling iPhone owners losers and following it with "HTC for life, bitches" makes you sound a lot more like a loser to me.
- ePuck, on 08/20/2008, -0/+5Thats exactly what some phone companies do for you. You get a text with a url login and password so you can see the picture/video
- skabyss, on 08/20/2008, -0/+5touché moose
- philwalsh, on 08/20/2008, -5/+10Can someone explain to me why they want the iPhone to support MMS because I have never ever used it. I think it's completely useless, I've never seen any advantages. If I want to send someone an image or so I'll just email them.
I'd love to hear counter arguments though. - migitalwarfare, on 08/20/2008, -0/+5it'd be nice to have, but honestly, if i had actual MMS instead of viewmymessage.com, i wouldn't have any need for copy & paste.
- FDDIcent, on 08/20/2008, -3/+8Yeah because it has been such an unsuccessful launch for them, people sure as hell aren't buying them.
- teh_techie, on 08/20/2008, -0/+5Ugh...
So much gums...
So little teeth... - philwalsh, on 08/20/2008, -2/+7I was just wondering because over in Europe MMS has been a bit of a failure..
- mrgermy, on 08/20/2008, -0/+5exactly
- coldfusion1970, on 08/20/2008, -0/+5Hes exactly right.
Practically all the ads i see on the web are Flash based.
I dont need to see them again on my iPhone.
Infact having no flash on the iPhone is like having ADBlock builtin. - mrgermy, on 08/20/2008, -0/+4That and her gums are showing too much.
- saande, on 08/20/2008, -4/+8I still want A2DP Bluetooth next...
- contact, on 08/20/2008, -2/+6The iPhone does more than a couple things better than a BB but email is NOT one of them.
Great to see you've been baptized by Jobs but please, at minimum, be factual when talking about other products. Blackberry's have never run a MS OS and never will (I hope).
If you want to continue preaching I suggest going down to the Apple store where everyone else is a brainwashed die hard Apple fan that would never look at the other side to do a true comparison. - GreenAlien, on 08/20/2008, -2/+6Not to rain in on this because it's a useful opensource project which I hope alot of developers make use of, but this still wont allow you to copy/paste between Apple's own apps and it's those I use the most. Mail, browser and contacts are the apps I most need this for.
Whenever I think of Apple's behavour with us common folk I think of The Matrix where the Special Agent knocks on the metal door and asks for Neo. Someone opens the little flap, takes the note then tells him to piss off. Only with Apple they don't open the flap. It would be nice if Apple showed a bit more transparency, if only to say "It'll take a while but we're working on copy/paste". That would save us having apps in a couple months time with redundant UI clutter (which hopefully don't conflict with Apple's own copy/paste). - KyleWahlquist, on 08/20/2008, -15/+19now all they need is flash to work and I will finally get on board.
- insertAliasHere, on 08/20/2008, -1/+5Yeah, in iPhone's really going to get you laid.
/facepalm - majikmixx, on 08/21/2008, -0/+4Simple, not every phone can receive email. While there are certainly lots of them that do, it's not all. Plus it's nice to be able to do something a old phone can do on such a high tech piece of gadgetry.
- TheNik, on 08/20/2008, -1/+5You mean one of the many task-related applications you can get on App Store don't count?
