- Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -8/+47Very cool round-up!! Actually what I found kind of funny was when I Inverted my screen (Ctrl-Option-Cmd-8) when looking at his example of his inverted screen, his pic. was reverted, and looked entirely normal :)

- caliform, on 10/12/2007, -6/+25Or go onto digg.com - and Troll! And it's FREE!
Anyway... - HalBSure, on 10/12/2007, -7/+24The fingers you have used are too fat. To obtain a special one button mouse, please mash the keyboard with your palm now.
- homestar14, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18These are supposed to be "lesser-known" functions and keyboard shortcuts, not the awesome Mac apps.
- Agret, on 10/12/2007, -6/+22I sure hope you don't have your own computer. You're very stupid.
- blasphemer, on 10/12/2007, -7/+23Dude.. thats old news...
A dell with the same specs as the Mac Pro costs more...
Anyway... - Agret, on 10/12/2007, -7/+20Where do you acquire this 'better OS' of which you speak? I've never heard of it before.
- digga, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16Funny, the story's about Mac OS. No one's talking about gnome.
- comradechimp, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14@Agret
>If anyone on Windoze wants to invert their screen the shortcut is Left Alt + Left Shift + Insert (or scroll lock, I forget which).
Doesn't work for me, although left alt+left shift+print screen puts it in hi-contrast mode, which I didn't know. - h3xley, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13I like cmd-click window title in document windows to reveal the path, and the ability to use the document icon (in the titlebar) for dragging to other apps. hmm actually that one really has been around forever.
"The Mac OS 8.5 Window Manager supports the display of a small icon in the title bar of document windows (next to the window title) that serves as a proxy for the document's icon in the Finder. This proxy icon appears and behaves the way the icon for the document does in the Finder. For example, the user can drag a document's proxy icon to move or copy the document file." - nandes, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13I find it hilarious that differences in computer preferences can invoke such blind anger, hatred, and superiority fallacies between both sides of this ridiculous battle.
Everytime I see a post about Macs (digg/forums etc) my first reaction is "oh here we ***** go again, bring on the pc purist idiots and the mac-technology-self-identification morons". - wesball, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12I used to be you man. I really did.
You just don't know. - fowleryo, on 10/12/2007, -8/+18http://www.duggmirror.com/apple/Cool_things_you_can_do_on_a_Mac/
- crossthread, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12You're stupid enough to cite the tired 'one-button mouse' argument. That's stupid enough, regardless of how long you've been building your own computers.
- fantasticjon, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11The point isn't that these are great apps or anything. The point is that these are useful trick to help new users. Why do the trolls show up whenever anyone tries to spread some useful information. Just because you already knew it, or know how to do it (or something similar) on your preferred operating system, doesn't mean it won't be useful to someone else. If it doesn't help you than don't digg the story. Its not hurting you.
- ahill7, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9I love just holding shift and doing any Expose' function. It goes slow-mo and looks pretty stylish.
I also love holding shift and opening dashboard. You get the slow-mo fade effect there as well.
digg+ - MacParrot, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9I just tried the slow expose. Useless, but you're right, it did look cool. Couldn't get Dashboard to do the same thing without some hot-key changes as I have an iBook G4 and just set it to the right corner to switch.
You hard-core Mac haters need to relax. We aren't taking anything away from your Half-Life experience.
Biometic especially is in need of a half-life as the one he currently has seems inadequate. - DaffyDuck, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Clippy! My favorite anthropomorphized sneaky lookin' piece of extruded metal!
- korhojoa, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Actually, that really isn't the case.
That only works if you have software installed just for that purpose. (ie, intel gives some funky tools to do that with its graphics chipset drivers) - Agret, on 10/12/2007, -11/+17If anyone on Windoze wants to invert their screen the shortcut is Left Alt + Left Shift + Insert (or scroll lock, I forget which).
Great to do it at school when the computers are on the login screens :D People are confused by the login screen then. - Stelex, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8ATTENTION!
Sorry guys, my host suspended the account due to huge traffic and enormous php load, it should be fixed shortly, I'm setting up redirects. Meanwhile please use this mirror:

Mike - Silvermac.com - DaffyDuck, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Why do people like you feel a need to troll on most of the posts relating to Apple? You don't like Apple. Fine. You have two smart options:
1. Ignore the Apple stories.
2. Edit your profile so Apple stories are hidden to you.
Consider yourself lucky. #2 is not an option for me since there is no Windows section I can toggle off. - snugsoho, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9I could never stand that inverted colours mode, thing is though is that it does have a practical purpose in that your machine will consume less power in that mode - handy to know if you're running a little short on battery power on the move and all you're doing is reading the news or e-mail and having all the colours displaying as intended really doesn't mater.
- Boondoggle, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10this is a system wide feature that lets you drag any text, from virtually any application, to the desktop, or any folder, and create a clipping file containing that text.
Windows does not implement this feature to anything approaching the way OS X (and 8,9, etc) do/did. - BWhaler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Wow. I'm a long time Mac guy, and I didn't know about this. Very cool. Hell, I just tried it on this web page and sure enough it converted your equation to the sum.
Apple is so on the little things, it's not even funny. - asarien, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9"This would be funny if you go to the Apple shop and do it so you can watch salesperson freaks out."
Actually, every Mac Specialist already knows about the screen invert and all the other commands. We normally use it on people like the most of you that didn't know about it to freak them out. - dohidied, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8I didn't know about hitting space after command-shift-4 to take a shot of a specific window. dugg.
- joesepi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Another one that has come in handy a few occassions is the Universal Access Zoom feature:
Command + Option + '*' to Enable the Feature
and then
Command + Option + '+' or '-' to Zoom in and Out
The best is to Zoom way in and then Turn the Feature off and it zooms back to normal really fast. - asarien, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Hey brother, some of us are just making our way through college is all. And inverting screen colors is barely an expert thing to do.
- popezaphod, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7What decade are you trapped in?
- salgiza, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8He's draggin the text into the _desktop_. That automatically creates a new text file with the dragged text (you can do the same thing with Images in a webpage, for example, but that's a little more obvious).
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Any guy who spells 'boy', 'boi' needs to be kicked in the schnutz.
- MacParrot, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8As much as I typically dislike grammar police, you spelled "pompous" wrong. Your statement might have had more impact otherwise. Don't you have system wide spell-check? No? Must not have a Mac.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7From one of the comments on this story:
"Here’s a cool one:
Open the Terminal and type “KillAll Dock”, without quotes. Do not hit enter yet! Now, minimize a window while holding shift. As the window is minimizing, and before it is completely minimized, hit enter in the Terminal to kill the dock (don’t worry, it’ll restart itself). Have fun playing with the distorted window! Scrolling it is awesome! "
Tested, it works. Pretty nifty.
Oh btw, don't activate expose or the window will no longer respond to clicking.
If you accidently do: pull down the apple menu, hold down shift, and hit "Force Quit Finder". This will restart finder and purge the window. - siMac, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Inverting colours is a universal access feature for the vision-impaired. As is the zooming function which is also fun to play with.
- Boondoggle, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Right, because every Windows users knows how to find out how big thier hard drive is. Because it is soo much easier, and they are soo much smarter.
/sarcasm. - oOLiquidNightOo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6i had forgot about text clipping. so, yeah that was pretty cool.
- uownedge, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5While some of this stuff isn't exactly "useful", it's really just nifty. It's not supposed to show off the "power" of OS X or anything. It's just nice that it's all so easy if you ever need it. I'm a particularly big fan of text and image clipping.
In general, one of my favorite things about Mac OS is how easy the keyboard shortcuts are. They're laid out in such a way that they feel natural to use, and make sense to someone like me who has a very short memory :P - soopafly, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6installing Windows and get spyware and viruses wooooohoooo! Sign me up
- wesball, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Are you 12?
Seriously, I used to make fun of punks like you. - caliform, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7System Accessibility Options say anything to you?
- fungifred, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7What service is that, I don't see it anywhere?
- MacParrot, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5That REALLY is a lovely story. And you tell it so well...with such enthusiasm.
What a gump - bram, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Maybe he should have used the cmd+ctrl+d to bring up the dictionary...
- Stelex, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Out of 300.000.000 computer users that makes 6.000.000 Macs, not bad, isn't it ?
Have you sold 6 million of something ? You haven't had 6 million heartbeats yet, I guess. - MonkeyFarts, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@ NightRush:
Apparently you didn't read the definition of "Mackintosh." It's not the computer, it's a person.
"Mackintosh |ˈmakənˌtä sh | Mackintosh, Charles Rennie(1868–1928), Scottish architect, designer, and painter. A leading exponent of art nouveau, he pioneered the new concept of functionalism in architecture and interior design. - Boondoggle, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7call me when you've got photoshop running.
- MacParrot, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4P155
You would actually go to the trouble of creating new Digg accounts JUST to troll Mac posts after people have your screen name blocked? Wow...that's just..amazing. Leaves me speechless. Aren't there some games you could play instead? Seems like a more productive use of your time since you really add nothing but useless rhetoric. Maybe you could find a real job somewhere. - Goop, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Wow, somebody sounds just a little bit too upset.
Jealousy? That might explain it. -
