Stop making me want to buy an Iphone I can't afford.
Sincerely,
Me - Vesper73, on 07/17/2008, -3/+100I just created this post using VNC Lite on my iphone, (through my PC). Only took me ten minutes!
- iNunchuk, on 07/17/2008, -5/+42@evilblobs,
I'm going to do you a favor: Go to Demonoid, download the iPod Touch 5a437 firmware. Store it on your computer.
Open iTunes, connect your iPod Touch and then hold down the alt key and press the restore button, it will ask you to select your firmware, select the 5a437 firmware, and then sit back and enjoy. - santaliqueur, on 07/17/2008, -1/+23Use your joke-o-meter. Wait, better fix it first.
- Evilblobs, on 07/17/2008, -29/+47Funny thing is, I've had a VNC client on my touch, and have been doing this for around 4 months now, with my jailbroken touch. And it didnt cost a 10$ upgrade.
- GeckoSlayer, on 07/17/2008, -0/+16No, go UltraVNC. It has a local mirror driver that makes it less laggy than realvnc!
- IJstickI, on 07/17/2008, -1/+14you're so cool man.
- bgtees, on 07/17/2008, -1/+13Very cool - just installed it on my 2G iPhone and it connected to my PC running WinVNC without a problem. I've tested it over wi-fi & edge and it's surprisingly easy to use.
- BrainInAJar, on 07/17/2008, -5/+16ssh client ? :(
I don't have a windows, i just wanna be able to ssh in to my UNIX boxen - ABurningMan, on 07/17/2008, -0/+10I've been using this... If you use 16 bit color mode instead of 32 everything becomes a lot smoother, but things look a bit discolored, but its worth it if you actually do need to control your computer from afar.
- redwallhp, on 07/17/2008, -1/+9Actually you want FreakinAwesomeEspressoVNC.
- metaboman, on 07/17/2008, -13/+20Seriously....grow up.
- Urbalist, on 07/17/2008, -1/+8So true..
- umbrellainabin, on 07/17/2008, -1/+8backdoor doesn't begin with N
- cutright, on 07/17/2008, -1/+7It sounds like you're faulting the iPhone for not coming out sooner. So, if any new technology ever comes out, don't let it do anything that any other other piece of technology has ever done because it will be assumed to be over-hyped because someone else did it first.
Let's face it, the touch screen is as innovative as the mouse (thanks Xerox). This sort of thing is making news because its on the iphone, not that this application is a new idea. News revolving around the iphone will lose its hype when something else new and innovating comes out.
Btw... since when does Front page = worship?
This is very serious... find as many internets as you can and let them all know. - freakyrunnerguy, on 07/17/2008, -0/+6I miss touchpad pro. Why did i "upgrade" (more like downgrade) to 2.0
- ScottEK, on 07/17/2008, -4/+10I can't believe all the complaints on the comments here. This app blows the jailbroken counter-part out of the water.
My mouth dropped when I turned my phone and I can view my Windows desktop landscape on the phone and resize to match the screensize flawlessly. - xenocoder, on 07/17/2008, -0/+6Works on XP and *gasp* vista with UltraVNC. Vista pushes the comp down to "basic" mode when connecting but it works as a pretty decent remote control for a media box. Now I never have to get off the couch.
- davidwasman, on 07/17/2008, -8/+14There are numerous issues with this app:
1) What the hell does lite mean? Are you waiting to charge us for a full app? I don't see one released.
2) Why can I only add 1 IP? Whenever I try to add another IP is greys out the box and doesn't allow it.
3) The buttons are horrible and pixelated. Come on...you have the entire Cocoa library to choose from and you used BMP files as buttons with jagged edges and ZERO transparency?
4) The controls are wonky and should have been like the Chicken Of The VNC client from 'Installer'.
5) Crash, bang, boom. Please, make it more stable.
But hey, it is free and it is the only VNC client so far. - killtrocity, on 07/17/2008, -3/+9Just download this. Took me 30 seconds to set up. Cool feature... but not very useful atm.
- josereyes0, on 07/17/2008, -1/+6You are so awesome.
- inactive, on 07/17/2008, -3/+8Well I figure it would be kinda hard to use without the app : P
- BryanG412, on 07/17/2008, -2/+7This just in: The i-phone has cured cancer
- Rekzai, on 07/17/2008, -0/+5TightVNC.
- inactive, on 07/17/2008, -3/+8shut it.
- kuz2r, on 07/17/2008, -0/+5yes, it does as long as you have 2.0 firmware and app installed
- paradox4190, on 07/17/2008, -3/+8Uh, yes it did.
(+/- $0.05 of course) - redwallhp, on 07/17/2008, -0/+4Comment buried for trolling.
- dwightfagen, on 07/17/2008, -0/+4first off, how can you criticize people for not thinking for themselves and just following a group mentality, then end your post with "FAIL". people who live in glass houses... ought to be more self aware.
secondly, this is news because, though vpn is old, the platform is new and INNOVATIVE. never, ever before has a mobile platform and application delivery system been so simple and unified. it's game changing. so, as these things roll out, they will generate news... because it's new. - chadpyle, on 07/17/2008, -9/+13Jesus, here we go again... So, I've been able to use VNC on my Treo for three ***** years. Oh, and it didn't cost me a cent extra.
Where have you Apple fanatics been for the last decade, that this appears cutting-edge?
I'm half expecting to see a Digg post about how the iPhone comes with a REVOLUTIONARY integrated speakerphone. - metaboman, on 07/17/2008, -0/+4did you go to system prefs, then to sharing, then check remote login, then check remote management? then after that while in remote management, go to computer settings and enter VNC password?
as long as you did that including using your external ip address and opened up your port it should work. mine does. - lfroker, on 07/17/2008, -1/+5They already got me. :( .... :)
- Firehed, on 07/17/2008, -0/+4RealVNC, but make sure that you set the server up to only prefer encryption (not require it). It's a "paid" *cough* app, but TightVNC is only good as a client.
- Pinkertinkle, on 07/17/2008, -2/+6Whats the best program to setup VNC in XP?
- poseitom, on 07/17/2008, -1/+51 word "Logmeinn.com" forget the rest
- MacParrot, on 07/17/2008, -1/+4And yet here you are commenting...way to go!
- jondus, on 07/17/2008, -0/+3That "copy pasta" part could make this sell really well in Italy.
- aurrea, on 07/17/2008, -1/+4Can't you just use LogMeIn through the internet browser?
- kreatre2007, on 07/17/2008, -5/+8It's slower than molasses and it crashes constantly. It's totally useless and not worth anyone's time.
- loconet, on 07/17/2008, -0/+3You can still vnc into Linux. But yes, a [legal] ssh client would still be nice.
- Gadianton, on 07/17/2008, -0/+3I've been doing this on my Windows Mobile devices for more than 5 years.
- danknerd, on 07/17/2008, -1/+4I use TightVNC server and the default port for that is 5901 and the default for Mocha is 5900 so i changed it in Mocha to 5901 and it works via 3g and wifi now
- Urbalist, on 07/17/2008, -0/+3I don't see why you were being dugg down for this. God damn mac fanboys..
- GeckoSlayer, on 07/17/2008, -0/+3This is the only thing I've been missing since I upgraded to 2.0! I paid for Touchpad Pro on the 1.1.4 jailbreak, and am now using Mocha!
- whyufail, on 07/17/2008, -1/+4and because it is, prepare to be buried by the apple brigade
- TheMadCow, on 07/17/2008, -1/+4I feel your pain. If I was stuck using a POS phone with a HUGELY outdated OS, I'd feel pretty bitter too. Of course, one might also point out that "you are" a Treo user commenting on a phone that you don't actually own and might be inclined to tell you, STFU and go back under the bridge.
- jpaolini, on 07/17/2008, -0/+3Probably because people find it interesting.
- sint4x, on 07/17/2008, -0/+3To linux admins this would a lot more useful.
There better be a "tab" button if someone does release it. - cam0man, on 07/17/2008, -2/+5Is this only for over wifi through your LAN? When I try to connect to my external IP w/ the VNC ports forwarded I get an error from Mocha VNC, where as I can connect fine through other VNC clients. Cool app none the less, makes it easy to control which Hulu episodes I'm watching on my big screen without getting back up from the couch.
- inactive, on 07/17/2008, -0/+3Your thoughts on the iphone are based what your 'heard'
