Cluttered desktop folders become art [PICS]
macenstein.com — Storing tons of files on your desktop is never a good idea, and Teknograd Mac Support from Norway has come up with an ad campaign that visualizes the feeling of helplessness that a cluttered desktop can cause. Thanks to faithful Macenstein reader John Hawkins for the pics!

- screwattackthis, on 04/20/2008, -0/+0it's 1337, not l337. Silly non mac geek! Don't worry, he doesn't give mac users a bad name. He gives humanity a bad name.

- l33tspam, on 04/14/2008, -8/+45there are windows "fans?"
I don't know about you, but the only reason I use windows is because of the staggering market share it has as far as software goes. I'm no fan, but I also hate Macs, so it evens out.- r2builder, on 04/14/2008, -1/+10Don't feed the trolls.

- DaffyDuck, on 04/14/2008, -19/+6I wonder if anyone said that to Michelangelo as he was painting the Sistine Chapel? I'm not implying that this is on the same level or anywhere near it but same general idea applies IMO.
- MagikOvenMit, on 04/14/2008, -2/+18Uh... No.
- DaffyDuck, on 04/14/2008, -1/+2OK, so it's not art and the guy was just wasting his plentiful time. Thanks for clearing it up for me.

- Ahzaz, on 04/14/2008, -22/+4I was gonna say something witty but i cant think of anything.
Looks like hard work, good job.- theradical, on 04/14/2008, -2/+30"I was gonna say something witty but i cant think of anything."
Pardon our collective shock. - XristosAnesti, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1None of us mind that you can't think of anything witty. It's okay, really. We also wouldn't mind if, next time you have that problem, you just don't submit a comment.
- theradical, on 04/14/2008, -2/+30"I was gonna say something witty but i cant think of anything."
- Chaoticfist, on 04/14/2008, -21/+154Would be sweet if there was a program you could use to arrange them this way. I am lazy.....plus studying for an exam i have 2moro....so i probably shouldn't be on digg lol.
- andrew522, on 04/14/2008, -2/+13how would you find your files?
- TVarmy, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1Spotlight and/or quicksilver
- noahhoward, on 04/14/2008, -2/+3It would but the point is supposed to be that having that much crap on the desktop is not good for your computer.
- Maynza, on 04/14/2008, -1/+632moro

- muniak, on 04/14/2008, -3/+152I hope it's not an English exam.
- blueandgreen24, on 04/14/2008, -6/+11This isn't YouTube, Chaoticfist. Here at Digg we take pride in our comments.
- TVarmy, on 04/14/2008, -1/+3Great site guys! I really like what you've done with it, and I'll have to send links to my friends.
By the by, ask me about a new advertising service to help with your growing bandwidth fees.
-This is an ironic statement.
- TVarmy, on 04/14/2008, -1/+3Great site guys! I really like what you've done with it, and I'll have to send links to my friends.

- skmice2, on 04/14/2008, -1/+15Dugg for the space invaders theme.
- Crath, on 04/14/2008, -7/+20What is the resolution of their desktop? Wow!
- andrew522, on 04/14/2008, -6/+23It looks like 1920 x 1080.
which is a standard resolution on most powerful macs.
and here I am thinking 1680 x 1050 is cool on my laptop- hassanchop13, on 04/14/2008, -4/+13i may be mistaken, but i'm guessing its actually 1920x1200. i dont know about mac, but most nice laptops use that
- exomni, on 04/14/2008, -1/+10Best MacBook pro resolution is 1920x1200, 1680x1050 is standard, and 1440x900 is for the lowest model's lowest native resolution.
- tnoy, on 04/14/2008, -1/+2The 17" MacBook Pro is 1680x1050, the 15.4" is 1440x900.
There are some laptops out there with a 1920x1200 res on a 15.4" screen; Apple is hardly on top when it comes to resolution.
Also, most all 23-24" screens are 1920x1200.- migitalwarfare, on 04/14/2008, -0/+2i'm sorry, but what the hell is the point of 1920x1200 on a 15.4" screen, and how does that relate to Apple's standing in screen resolution? Apple is just as much on their game with resolution as any other manufacturer
- vibrokatana, on 04/14/2008, -4/+22On OSX you can adjust the size of the icons.
- feliks2, on 04/14/2008, -14/+22and on windows...
- sephiroth965, on 04/14/2008, -3/+16Why are you digging him down? He's right... Right click on desktop. Click Properties. Click the "Appearance" tab. Click "Advanced." Finally, scroll down to Icon on the dropdown menu. It's hard to find if you don't know where to look, but you can adjust the size of the icons in windows.
- cmscott, on 04/14/2008, -11/+6because it's irrelevant.
- DanMiller, on 04/14/2008, -1/+5It's not irrelevant, someone questioned the resolution. His point was that the resolution had little to do with it but rather the abiliity to shrink the icons.
- xxbrighteyed, on 04/14/2008, -0/+4You're right
- RevoFM, on 04/14/2008, -18/+4On YOUR MOM you can adjust the size of YOUR BALLS!

- andrew522, on 04/14/2008, -19/+9Yay I have a mac its so cool! I'm gonna arrange the folders into a DINOSAUR!!! HAHAHA
well... I suppose it is kinda neat.- andrew522, on 04/14/2008, -4/+15that wasn't really meant to be offensive... but seriously.
arranging icons into a dinosaur.- masterc, on 04/14/2008, -7/+2I'd like to see you do this on a Vista computer. Every time you move an icon you have to click Cancel or Allow.
- andrew522, on 04/14/2008, -1/+3except that I CAN do it without a problem on vista. (I just checked overlapping) I just don't have that much time to waste at the moment.
but hell, go arrange your icons into a skull if it makes you feel cool. - masterc, on 04/14/2008, -5/+1Wow. Looks like I forgot my /sarcasm tag.
- andrew522, on 04/14/2008, -1/+3except that I CAN do it without a problem on vista. (I just checked overlapping) I just don't have that much time to waste at the moment.

- migitalwarfare, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1why are there so many fanboys in these comments specifically? *****, it's like a highschool computer class in here. i mean, i like macs and all, but this ***** is embarrassing.
- IsaiahCisneroz, on 04/14/2008, -4/+25Bah. Lets see them make the virgin mary out of a grilled cheese...
- theradical, on 04/14/2008, -3/+12Buried for 2004.
- nstanosheck, on 04/14/2008, -1/+2More like "Storing tons of files on your desktop is never a good idea" that is why you can put folders in your dock, in Mac OS X the desktop is not for placing files according to his Steveness.
- Wilsomatic, on 04/14/2008, -0/+9It's for pretty pictures of clown fish, easy illustrator effects and a nebula.
- zakatov, on 04/14/2008, -0/+3it's not a good idea because OSX caches the preview of EVERY file in EVERY folder that's on the desktop for quick access, and since every one of them is stored in VRAM as textures, well, it's easy to see how it can degrade performance.
- jeriqo, on 04/14/2008, -1/+2Yeah, it can take up to 2MB memory.
Imagine!
- jeriqo, on 04/14/2008, -1/+2Yeah, it can take up to 2MB memory.
- ravkass, on 04/14/2008, -2/+1And I thought having 10 shortcuts on my desktop was a lot. sigh...

- OneLess, on 04/14/2008, -1/+1The most I ever have on my desktop is when I have my flash drive, CD drive, and Windows partition all mounted at the same time.
- Heretushi, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1Hide the Windows partition from your desktop by booting into Windows and renaming your hard drive with a dot before the name (ex.: .Windows). It will not show up on your desktop but will still appear in the finder.

- gooter, on 04/14/2008, -3/+21where's the goatse version??
- BruceDude, on 04/14/2008, -0/+21This is art like a portrait made of macaroni and noodles.

- mogebier, on 04/14/2008, -32/+25Wow, what a complete waste of time and effort.
Well, that's a Mac user for ya.
Probably stoned out of his mind and thought of the idea. Hippy.- Zwartbaard, on 04/14/2008, -6/+2Die Hippie, Die!

- mogebier, on 04/14/2008, -1/+1Since when are making comments about views being a "*****"?? Aren't you being a ***** by calling me names??
I think so.
Douche Bag.- DrGFreeman, on 04/15/2008, -0/+1didn't say *****.

Almost.
Try again, please.- migitalwarfare, on 04/14/2008, -1/+1no, what's funny is that you have nothing better to do than reply back to every comment you received. it's ok, i'd be angry too if i didn't have a life
- XristosAnesti, on 04/14/2008, -2/+1The irony of that is astounding.
- XristosAnesti, on 04/14/2008, -2/+1So you're angry, too?
- migitalwarfare, on 04/14/2008, -1/+1no, what's funny is that you have nothing better to do than reply back to every comment you received. it's ok, i'd be angry too if i didn't have a life

- 3leggedHorse, on 04/14/2008, -6/+2 Quality considering I have just cleaned up my desktop and there is nothing on it.
Tempting to ***** it up and try this. - blinktude, on 04/14/2008, -11/+2yea those random mac chicks are real piece of work
- Borgcube636, on 04/14/2008, -27/+10Wow - Mac users must be so bored on their little Mac's with nothing to do on them, that they have to rearrange desktop icons for fun. IDK about you, but I'll be on my PC playing the latest kick-ass games in better-than-lame-noob-console graphics
- zzz@tkz, on 04/14/2008, -7/+20I don't own a Mac, but I hate you. Stop being a pretentious bitch.
- Wilsomatic, on 04/14/2008, -4/+11Yeah cause PC users must have so much fun wasting their lives pwning n00bs, fighting orcs and cleaning pizza grease off their gaming keyboards with World of Warcraft custom shortcuts. I'll just stick to making music and graphics thankyou very much.
- raynevandunem, on 04/14/2008, -8/+5I'm a 21 year old guy who uses WinXP, and hates any and all games (PC, console, handheld, card, board, hand, war, etc.), gaming, and the gaming industry.
Bizarre, isn't it?- qishi, on 04/14/2008, -1/+9How can you hate all games? I bet you're a ton of fun to be around.
- raynevandunem, on 04/14/2008, -2/+2Easy. I simply avoid them in whatever form they may take, including the aforementioned. Most of my time is spent looking/scanning through the Web for mentally-interesting, but physically- and financially-unfulfilling topics and matters. Just like novels (yes, I've only read one novel in my recent memory), you're engaged into whatever goes on within the game, and then you either win (sometimes) or lose (alot), but you eventually get to the end of the playing experience; yet, no one else cares, you haven't conquered the world, and you haven't bettered yourself in the process. Oh, and you've just gotten played out of some trifle amount of your money, but you're pursuing your constitutional right to the pursuit of happiness in the process. Congratulations!
I simply don't understand the popular hooplah around games, movies, music, or TV shows; I'm even starting to question my little remaining interest in anime. They all come a dime a dozen, and are all propagated by the same industries which complain incessantly about those "criminals" "stealing" their media products and distributing copies over anonymous networks for free. P2P file-sharing only serves to justify and legitimize the activities of these companies, when it could be a courier of freer, more liberalizing data conceptualizations which could rightfully make the media industries, including the game makers, obsolete.
I don't mind that I'm exhibiting sour grapes for the fact that I suck at gaming, but I'm proud that I've put up such a wall of apathy to separate myself from the very concern of gaming. I don't have the patience or imaginary capacity for gaming, so I can't understand what the hell those guys in the Student Center at the tech school are talking about when they're playing D&D.
So when I see someone bandy about their ability to game on their Windows PC as a plus over those who use other operating systems, I get incensed because I use Windows regularly, but hate to game, and I simply hate to see video games as being one of the major deterrents to further progress in information technology. My initial impulse was to say "DAMMIT! WHO GIVES A ***** ABOUT PWNING N00BS YOU *****-FOR-BRAINS! ***** YOU, ***** YOUR WORTHLESS GAMES, AND ***** EVERY LAST GAMER ON THE ***** PLANET!", but my initial response turned out differently. You know, caps lock not being cool on the Internet.
For the record: The only console that I have is a Sega Genesis (and a Nomad), and they've both been gathering dust in the closet from the many years of non-use. Also, I don't remember the last time that I played the Sonic 2 cartridge that sits at my nightstand; probably back in the early 90's, when I didn't have the Internet at home.
And yes, I started to hate games in general after loosing too many times in Sonic 2; I suck like that.- zzz@tkz, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1So...You're a lamer?
- Wilsomatic, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1Can you turn punching numbers into a game?
- sephiroth965, on 04/14/2008, -2/+2I think this guy is just racist against things that are fun.

- j5r5myk, on 04/14/2008, -1/+2Yeah you're right. In Buddhism a left-facing Swastika is called the Omote Manji and it represents love and mercy. In Hinduism the left-facing Swastika represents the involution of the Universe.

- Weejay, on 04/14/2008, -2/+8There's nothing special about his resolution, since if I recall correctly, icons on Macs are vector graphics (on other systems as well) and can thus can be scaled (in this case shrunk).
- vashmyvindows, on 04/14/2008, -0/+2They're raster, with sizes from 16x16 all the way up to 512x512. That, however, doesn't change the fact that you can change their displayed size.
- Weejay, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1Oh you're right, I remember that Mac uses retarded raster icons....

because computers are obviously single purpose tools......... - celkin, on 04/14/2008, -1/+2...while your 360's being repaired
- DanMiller, on 04/14/2008, -1/+1WTF does editing video on a Mac Pro have to do with playing games. While you are at it, keep comparing a $400 PC to a Mac Pro. Go ahead, provide a link to this elusive computer which edits and renders Hundreds of hours of HD video. I'm sure you know what you are talking about, we all know Dreamworks edits with E-Machines.
- oblique63, on 04/14/2008, -1/+1exactly... do you really think I was making that as a real comparison? come on, get real...
but how about you tell me how wasting $1000+ on a new computer, in general, is a stupid think to do? because even if you are a bit of a gamer, its naive to imply that thats all it would be good for is games... and usually if you are spending that kind of money on a PC, you know what you're doing, and thus would be able to make use of it with more than just crysis or something... high performance video/sound cards weren't invented with strictly gamers in mind you know... point being, its stupid to compare a PC to a console, a computer's versatility alone more than makes up for the price difference...
also, just f.y.i., I actually do edit/record 32-bit audio with Nuendo on a 2ghz single core machine with 1gb of ram that cost me like $300, and it comes out just fine, I could probably edit video with it as well, but we all know that it would be better to do on a better machine, but that doesn't mean that lower budget computers aren't capable of even performing those tasks...- DanMiller, on 04/15/2008, -1/+1I didn't say anything about audio which is much different than editing and rendering video AND audio. My point was not that spending $1000+ for a computer is a waste. However, the above comment stated that Mac gamers needing something to do since the platform lacked games. I have strongly believed for a long time that owning a computer for the purpose of playing games is a misallocation of money. Yes, most any PC or Mac you buy can play the current crop of games. But, within a year or two you are back to square one forced to buy expensive video cards and memory upgrades to stay current. It's a matter of opinion but I would much rather spend $400 for a console than the extra money to jump into PC gaming.

It's a Mac not a Windows PC. If you want to open them all you need to press CMD-O.- racco, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1you wouldn't be doing anything at all. you could only rename them files one at a time.
also, there is no 'enter' key on a Mac keyboard- pikelet, on 04/15/2008, -0/+1Uh, yes there is. It doesn't act like a typical Enter key, but it's still called Enter, on the far right: http://images.apple.com/keyboard/images/gallery/wi ...
