- mattjb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow, it isn't vaporware. Next thing you know, the Phantom console will come out, and the Bitboys will come out with their new video card. ;)

- FlyingAvatar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Last I heard, CherryOS *is a rip-off* of PearPC, a still very much beta Open Source project. Which of course is free, just Google for PearPC.
- penguinix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wait its a g4 emulator? Why would anyone want to copy a sellout channel about vidoegames? Does the program delete your best programs and replace them with a less functional program ridled with adware? Thanks folks ill be here till thursday

- brucebeh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0okay, so i am trying to install osx.. i've gotten the oSX crash screen several times but this time its just taking forever.. all im seeing is the mac logo, been sittin here for about 15 mins on the same screen!
- mitcha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Apparently it is crap...Just as slow as PearPC...Buy a mac folks if you want to use OS X.
- MyOCD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0A "friend" of mine has had this for a few days now, it sucks.
- whitesanjuro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0FYI (i think its cool and stuff, but i dont work apple legal) it violates apples's EULA to install OSX on non-apple hardware
- frodo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i bet it is sooooo slow...
- dusingaz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I bet it runs just as slow as every-other emulator out there... it'll probably take a couple days for anyone to install OSX to tell us how slow it is.
- losierp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0does anyone know of a good panther torrent?
- brucebeh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0downloading.. trying this out right now!
nice stuff! - CasetheAce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0im installing now it is currently formatting the drive to HFS

- Speed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I havn't isntalled it, but I hate it because:
1. My Username was too long (RenegadeCanuck)
2. EIGHT CHARECTORS FOR A PASSWORD?!
Will probobly be a crappier version of PearPC. - returnkey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Definetly seems like a PearPC ripoff. It seems to have all the same shortcomings and definetly does not fufill its claim that it runs the virtual machine at 80% of the speed of the host.
I have PearPC running Panther and Tiger. I have limited networking and about 20% of native speed. It works fine now, but it was a large headeache to get it to work right when I first got it though.
PearPC is opensource and free. CherryOS is crap.

Gmail to all those who signup and try a trial - tommytrc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I tired downloading it and I can't seem to get the OS to load. I even have a ISO of 10.3.4 and no go.
- acr2001, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0was that an attempt at humor? ....*crickets*
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Can I digg penguin?
- rpcraft, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Heads up guys, I downloaded this to try out. Networking and sound doesn't work yet on the trial (not sure on the real deal) and so far I have yet to get it to boot my enabling cd support. Having started the install, and then realizing it was taking forever, I deleted and decided to go back to pearpc. At leest it seemed faster, and has some sound support. Plus the trial has a 14 day time period and honestly I can mess around in Pearpc for free until it is fully developed, or Apple comes out with os x for a pc (doubtful but hopeful there).
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0 * PC with Intel® (Pentium®, Pentium M®, Xeon™) or AMD (Athlon™, Opteron™, Duron™) processor. Processor must be at least 6.2 GHz.
* 4096MB RAM
* 75GB of available hard-drive space (150GB recommended)
* CD ROM Drive - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0btw, I am in the middle of installation of Cherry so it is definitely too early to render a final verdict, but so far it seems like it's kicking some ass. The circle thing moves faster than either of my G3 computers did and I've never had to install Panther on a G4. I'm running an Athlon XP 2600+ with over 1 gig of RAM and a decent video card (GeForce 5200 I think)...
- CUBApete, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Thats too bad it sucks, it would be awesome to have osx on my pc. that would make my life.
- slexaxton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hey, im gonna try and run virtual pc inside of cherry OS so i can run all my favorite windows programs!!! infinite number of cats move over, here comes the infinite emulator project...
- twells, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well guys I have CherryOs working on my system. No sound but networking does work. I updated from 10.3.4 to 10.3.8. It does run faster than pearpc did on my machine. However a child can tell that he is using pearpc code. Just ended up using my panther image I was using for pearpc and by luck, it worked. Still needs to be faster. Not close to running at 80%. I was able to use excel and other office products without crashing but the emu did crash on me a couple of times. Just thought I would share my experience with the emu.
- OverHeadCam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Quite slow for me on a Pentium M 755 with 1GB RAM. Meh. No sound and no network for me. What good is it without those? Also, running OS X on top of Windows is like putting a lawnmower engine in your Porche. Sure, you get all the luxury of a Porche, but it'll be slow and unreliable.

- KingAR_II, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0lol spectlaser... i still dont think 6.2/4096 is enough this thing is retarded.
- jakenovak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So, have they removed ALL GPL code from CherryOS? Or is this still just a repackaged PearPC?
- losierp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0it's pearpc with a cleanrt gui
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0WTF I can even get CherryOS to launch on any of the computers in my house it opens the launch screen then closes and shows the report to windows crash dialogue. Any ideas?
- karenin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0CherryOS Trial RELEASED!!!
This is a rip-off of PearPC, I can't believe people are actually downloading it and trying to use it. Do you trust this guy with your computer?
I certainly wouldn't. - lpfan076, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://movies.mxsinc.com/CherryOS/CherryOS2.zip
^^direct link
Personally I think the best way to use a Mac is actually go GET ONE. Too slow attempting to install on a PC.. - jakenovak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Can't open it, the program crashes right after the registration screen. My friend had it running, I took a look at some areas where people told me PearPC code was present back when the press version came out - and voila! Found the same in this version. Where's the lawsuit?
- willgonz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It was written in VB6. You know lots of interesting reading when you view the exe.
- JohnnyFusion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wonder if they remembered to strip all the Pear-PC specific strings in their code this time.
- Slider, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good ol' CherryOS.
http://prasys.skidsoftware.com/installerfeatures.htm
Now, after you read that, I think you will no longer want CherryOS. :) Here: http://prasys.skidsoftware.com/downloads.htm
VERY fast builds of PearPC. Enjoy. - dVoka, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Anyone ever try "Mac On Linux"? http://www.maconlinux.org/
- leviticus814, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I had a backup dvd with a Pear PC HDD image with OS/x installed, popped it into the CHeryos profile and guess what, it worked. However, it doesn't seem much better than Pear pc, and note the author states that sound support is coming, my guess is it will come a week after SOURCEFORGE releases the next pear pc update
- passsnap, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wow, dude, the entire source code was completely ripped from pear pc, well looks like their going under investigation
- blix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is clearly some sort of lame marketing scheme. dont bother with Cherry OS and stupid Emulators just get the real deal http://www.FreeMiniMacs.com/?r=14454283
- mcosta, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0For emulation it's not bad but it's still to early for me to tell if it's a long term winner. Is it a rip from Pear PC? maybe/probably. $50 is too early to be charging for it honestly. Networking does work using ICS. See my notes... http://matcosta.com/2005/03/cherry-os-in-case-you-dont-remember.html
- norcaldude, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0why would ANYONE want ANYTHING MAC-related for a computer?
