- Biiaru, on 01/11/2008, -2/+18Okay, so some group of people you don't like has a discount on an application, one that you paid full price for, so you decide to stop using it? Wow, that's the definition of intelligence right there.
- p0tent1al, on 01/11/2008, -3/+15Going to this link, just right now, it felt like an oncoming train hitting me. I thought I'd never say it;
I need a ***** Mac. - sachakun, on 01/11/2008, -3/+14For someone that does not have the apps is a good deal. And hey, 12.5 $ goes to charity. Not bad in my opinion..
- inactive, on 01/11/2008, -1/+12If you buy now, you still get the unlocked apps when/if they get unlocked.
- Darkon03, on 01/11/2008, -3/+14It's a good deal for me and I can use the apps. Plus, I'm sure the rest of the apps will become unlocked and at least one more bonus app will be thrown in.
- skeen07, on 01/11/2008, -2/+12CSSEdit pushed me to buy this. It's an amazing app. So is CoverSutra for that matter! Much more useful than I thought it would be.
- MacHarborGuy, on 01/11/2008, -1/+10hate to break it to ya, but a good number of commercial websites show up here. There have been posts about deals on NewEgg, Woot, and many others and thats fine because people can save money, and people love saving money.
I find the "this is blogspam so those bloggers can get adsense traffic" is the funniest argument, mainly because when an ArsTechnica article pops up, thats a blog, and that has advertising. Same thing IMO. But ArsTechnica is well known, so thats okay I guess. - majglow, on 01/11/2008, -0/+7Initially, you only get the ones unlocked now. However, as the new ones become unlocked, you will also get them. I bought it before CSSEdit was unlocked and I am now currently enjoying CSSEdit.
- majglow, on 01/11/2008, -1/+6Yes, you still get the unlocked apps. When you buy it, you have a custom page with your serials. As new apps get unlocked, the page updates.
- dawncandace, on 01/11/2008, -3/+8I don't have most of the programs, and I had the $10 discount from the Heist. Many of the apps are very useful to me, so it's worth the $39. Really, even if only 2 apps interest you, it's still a good deal. You can gift the licenses of the apps that don't interest you to others.
- awakebyjava, on 01/11/2008, -4/+9So, in order to support the developers that you like you boycott their applications because they decided to include it in a bundle as a promotional tool? I hope your ignorance is sweet for you, because it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.
- squawky, on 01/11/2008, -4/+811 apps, $49, 25% to charity (you can choose from a list of 10 or split between all) -- hard to argue with that! I may not use all the apps, but if I only need one or two it's still worth it.
- Firehed, on 01/11/2008, -3/+7More fun than the Add/Remove Programs app in Windows, that's for sure. Yeah, it's marketing-speak, but as far as uninstalling apps could be... I suppose it is.
- nealyng, on 01/12/2008, -0/+3Its actually pretty cool. It makes a big "Zap" and flashes the screen white when you uninstall something.
- PartlySean, on 01/11/2008, -1/+4Speed Download was thrown in as a bonus app recently.
- wellyuk, on 01/11/2008, -1/+4To be fair, they've also raised almost $60k for charity. So while you have a point, a charity or charities are going to get a decent wedge of money and maybe more mac users should support this scheme.
- vault, on 01/11/2008, -0/+3All the apps except for Snapz Pro and Pixelmator are unlocked. It's just the ones with the lock symbol are locked, on Snapz Pro as of this comment $41,000 more needs to be raised before it gets unlocked. It won't say what needs to happen for Pixelmator to get unlocked until Snapz Pro is.
- rkcreative, on 01/11/2008, -2/+4Plus, AppZapper is convenient for clearing out all the prefs, thus "resetting" any trial software. Nice feature.
- bittermang, on 01/11/2008, -2/+4Snapz is actually really good. Even though Mac OS X already has a plethora of screen capture options at your fingertips, Snapz has a distinct advantage: video. Really smooth video captures for screen casts and the like. Can also capture a shot with the mouse cursor included, which is always nice to be able to do.
- chris27uk, on 01/12/2008, -0/+2Total tunes control isn't as good because it lacks the amazing search that Cover Sutra provides. The extra effects are just eye-candy and tbh i think Cover Sutra is easier to use, given that i've tried both.
- cctoronto05, on 01/12/2008, -0/+2oh dude...you are so a loser.. you clearly don't get it, do you...
- MtheoryX, on 01/11/2008, -0/+2Look on the macheist site, it's very evident what ones are available, and which ones are yet to be unlocked:
http://www.macheist.com/ - wellyuk, on 01/12/2008, -0/+2Bollocks - I wouldn't have contributed that particular $12 bucks to one of the charities that I chose to donate to. I wanted the software and have got it at a discount rate and a charity has an extra 12 bucks from me, in addition to a part of 60k so ***** off.
How much the people at MacHeist are getting, I have no idea but 60k is a very significant amount and it's likely to get higher for these charities. This is a good thing. Stop your ***** moaning. - darnit, on 01/11/2008, -0/+2How can you tell which ones are currently unlocked?
- vault, on 01/11/2008, -1/+3The effect it makes actually is fun.
- falafelkiosken, on 01/11/2008, -1/+2just make sure you don't have the volume all turned up, you may get a unpleasant surprise
- p0tent1al, on 01/11/2008, -2/+3Actually I really respect what they are doing here. Coming from someone who usually just downloads programs for free, (digg me down if you must), but I wouldn't hesitate taking out my credit card for this.
- inactive, on 01/11/2008, -2/+3If you want to give money to charity, why not give money to charity rather than trying to justify the purchase of some pretty useless software by thinking that you're supporting a charity.
For every charity that benefits from a sale of the bundle, so do people called John and Phill who played no part in the development of the software and who do not deserve to profit from the hard work of others. - chrisbarr, on 01/11/2008, -2/+3I was wondering about this. Does it say that anywhere on the site?
- kkiran, on 01/11/2008, -3/+4Now waiting for pixelmator, snapz not soon interesting but will be unlocked very soon ($100,000 charity mark) and then comes pixelmator which might not see the light of day atleast till next week...
- jsblechman32, on 01/12/2008, -2/+3The apps in this years Mac Heist are excellent except Cover Sutra.Total Tunes Control is similer to Cover Sutra but it givers you way more options and has really cool animation effects and plus it's free. Click on the following link to get a copy! http://www.eagle-of-liberty.com/totaltunescontrol/
- ModernTenshi, on 01/11/2008, -2/+3So if I buy the bundle for $50 right now, do I get all the apps, or just the ones that have been unlocked so far?
- inactive, on 01/11/2008, -1/+2I used that once and it uninstalled the system folder.. don't use it on x windows programs that install stuff on the root.
- jbhannah, on 01/22/2008, -0/+1Anyone still coming here, here's my referral link for the bonus apps:
https://www.macheist.com/buy/invite/98730 - Digger1123, on 01/12/2008, -0/+1Same. I would not have donated the $39 to a charity, I wanted the $375 of software, and had already been looking into getting CSSEdit and Pixelmator, so it was a steal for me. I don't particularity like any of those charities, I would have preferred something like the USO.
- nealyng, on 01/12/2008, -0/+1Is CoverSutra worth it if you have menuet or the new apple keyboard with the play/pause/next/previous buttons? $15 is a lot of money for something that only really lets me shuffle songs without leaving my current app.
- inactive, on 01/12/2008, -1/+2And one which has been around for a long time in the software industry. Let's not get too hasty with the credit for these guys.
- chris27uk, on 01/12/2008, -0/+1Coversutra also has a neat spotlight-like search facility that really saves time switching to iTunes.
- wolf905, on 01/12/2008, -1/+2Yeah... I felt that way a year and a half ago. Since that time, I've replaced my desktop PC with an iMac, and got my company to replace my IBM (now Lenovo) Thinkpad with a Macbook Pro.
I can't _remember_ the last time the OS and/or badly behaving Apps got in the way of my productivity. I can still remember a whole bunch of times when it happened with WinXP. (McAfee VirusScan vs. ZoneAlarm = hung Ring 0) - ajwinder, on 01/12/2008, -0/+1I dont think any serious web dev could actually take cssedit off of their machine without downloading it the next time they started working on a project...
- cctoronto05, on 01/12/2008, -0/+1absolutely, i agree.
- cctoronto05, on 01/12/2008, -0/+1dude, seriously, get the ***** over your little self, we don't care.
- downunderstew, on 01/12/2008, -1/+2If you can use only three of the apps it is a good deal. It is also surprising how often you find uses for the others. But it is the 25% going to charity which is the icing on the cake because you can choose which charity or share between them all. Try and think of a good reason why you shouldn't buy it - oh, you don't have a Mac ... duh!
- Digger1123, on 01/12/2008, -1/+1So Neil, I know you are a MacHeist hater, I don't know why, and from what I have seen you post, you dislike of MacHiest is unfounded. Are you going to ask that all stories about Apple products be removed because they promote a product? The people who put together MacHeist deserve every penny that they make. They do not bait and switch the developers, telling them they will get one thing, and then keeping it for themselves. All of the developers agree to have their app offered on MacHeist, MacHeist doesn't go and torrent them and find some serials, they work it out with the developers.
- falafelkiosken, on 01/11/2008, -1/+1Coda, which also is worth checking out have the same base functionality, but CssEdit has got all functions you need (together those applications make a great team)
- jsebrech, on 01/13/2008, -0/+0Don't wait to buy. You get the apps anyway once they're unlocked, and if everyone waits, lots of people will forget so that next year they'll have a harder time getting together a good bundle.
- falafelkiosken, on 01/11/2008, -2/+2I bought it (CSSEd2) recently, is it bargain or what?
- AGiantBear, on 01/12/2008, -0/+0No, it's not.
- chris27uk, on 01/12/2008, -0/+0Taken from https://www.macheist.com/buy
What about CSSEdit, Snapz Pro and Pixelmator?
CSSEdit will be unlocked for ALL customers at 5000 bundles. The unlock points for Snapz Pro and Pixelomator will be announced once this point is reached. If these quotas are reached, you will receive your license within 24 hours from that point. - MtheoryX, on 01/11/2008, -2/+1What the hell is wrong with you?
