- timdorr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Free equivalents of both:
Vienna: http://www.opencommunity.co.uk/vienna2.php
AcidSearch: http://www.pozytron.com/?acidsearch
And David's other program, Acquisition, which is based on GPL code but not released under a GPL license, has an equivalent as well: AcqLite: http://acqlite.sourceforge.net/ - MikeSD34, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I have to say, Inquisitor is pretty handy....
- maxsz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Too bad I already have bought them :(
- yichen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I have bought them too. :(
BTW, though his products are great, I wish he could form a company and brings us more new ones and upgrades. - schumi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8These are two great products.
- koregaonpark, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Dave just gave me a free copy of Inquisitor for blogging about the deal. Cool guy. His other two apps. are pretty cool too, Acquisition X and Newsfire RSS. Use them both.
- eridius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I don't understand why anybody uses NewsFire. Sure, at first glance it's pretty, but compared to a genuinely good newsreader like NetNewsWire it's lacking in so many features and functionality and usability. Seriously. NetNewsWire not only has far more features but is more usable at the same time.
Oh, and to people saying Dave Watanabe is a good guy, well, just try criticizing him sometime. It doesn't have to be much. This guy has absolutely zero tolerance for even the slightest hint that he isn't god. For example, he used to have forums set up so people could get help from others for Acquisition, but he closed it down. Why? Because occasionally someone would post a complaint or criticism, and he couldn't stand to have that happen. This guys has the most over-inflated ego of anyone I've had the misfortune to talk to, and I'm not alone in that opinion. - UncommonSense, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7He's clearly ztoned.
- Glenn, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Yeah, he is a cool guy. He gave me a free copy of NewsFire :-)
- dadzilla, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I just pulled the trigger on this. Very nice programs, beautiful interfaces, and well thought out. I really like the idea of bundling and promoting shareware to build awareness.
- rrbaker, on 01/15/2009, -0/+2I think it bears saying though that David's upgrades for these products are very responsible. For a one man show all these products are updated far, far more quickly and regularly than a lot of others out there, open-source and those with a whole team behind them.
- fallenrogue, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Newsfire is a wonderful RSS reader if you get inquisitor too, it's WELL worth the bux. if you've got a Mac you owe it to yourself to check it out.
- badtz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2NewsFire does NOT support attention.xml [at leaslt at the moment] .... if you want to synchronize your RSS read/unread with other locations, the only choice right now is either Endo or NetNewsWire. Thus, I'm using NNW because I find the interface better than Endo, but overall NewsFire has the best interface.
- wastern, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Acquisition was the first 3rd party app I ever purchased, i think it was almost 3 years ago now. I've since also purchased NewsFire and Inquisitor. I'm waiting to see what his next app is which he released the teaser icon for.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So now ads are equivalent to good stories?
Can we have a section added for deals/ads? - davdav, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3NewsFire is the only program I have ever purchased.
- wastern, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1wrong story ztoner
- UncommonSense, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Digg it. Get Inquisitor free?
- wastern, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@ timdorr
does that reader have video integration? The addition of video support for things like diggnation, ask a ninja, sco, and others is what finally sold me on Newsfire - evelian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0His gloating on the website alone makes me not want to buy these apps. He should try some subtlety.
I've tried NewsFire, and despite its looks, it's nowhere near as handy and customizable as NetNewsWire. Since neither are free, I think I'll stick to the more functional one. - noeljohnhoward, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1yeah acquisition is updated alot
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1What's the benefit of using NewsFire over Google Reader?
- Z_Man, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Unfortunalty me too...
- Banagor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I bought and use endo as my newsreader. Couldn't be happier.
- miyamotofreak, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1I may have influenced this :) Anyway I still need to get his 3 apps.
- ztoner, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1Ummm.... Hey guys..... The PEBL looks very similar to the #1 phone on this list, and I love it!
- wastern, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1----------
