- coldfusion1970, on 10/12/2007, -1/+75Changes in Boot Camp 1.1 beta
Boot Camp 1.1 beta contains many updates and is intended for all new and previous Boot Camp beta users.
Boot Camp 1.1 beta includes:
Support for the latest Intel-based Macintosh computers
Easier partitioning using presets for popular sizes
Ability to install Windows XP on any internal disk
iSight camera support
Support for built-in microphones
Right-click when pressing the right-hand Apple key on Apple keyboards
Improved Apple keyboard support including Delete, PrintScreen, NumLock, and ScrollLock keys - redm0zzy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+50Drivers for the isight at last! I've tried Bootcamp but realised that OSX was actually better so decided to revert
- ramsinks.com, on 10/12/2007, -3/+46me too man.. I try to go back but.. damn windows sucks.
- macslut, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26The sound is fixed. You can now listen to headphones without sound coming through the speakers!!! It's working for me on a MacBook Pro 15"
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22I am surprised with the size of this release. The others were about 90MB. This one is over 200MB!
- joshc25, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22From the Boot Camp FAQ page ( http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303572#faq1 ):
Q: While booted into Windows XP, I still hear sound coming from the built-in speaker even with headphones plugged in.
A: This issue is addressed in Boot Camp Beta 1.1.
The FAQ also mentions a few other bug fixes. - elpayo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18To me the most significant update (besides right-click support) is the ability to install Windows XP on any internal disk - just wish you could install it on any external disk as well.
- donatj, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14Hells yeah, print screen! I've been missing that a lot! Not being able to take screenshots just bugs me.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14Consider that v1 supported only MacBook Pro & iMac when it came out (sans iSight), and 1.1 now has to support MacBook Pro 15 & 17", iMac, Macbook/Blackbook, eMac & now Mac Pro - most with iSight.
- drakino, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Since this supports the Mac Pro systems now, some of the size increase comes from the addition of NVidia display drivers. Older versions only had to include ATI drivers for the x1600, since all previous Intel Macs with seperate graphics had the x1600 in some form.
- kimos, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13I sat in a public space at the Unversity playing a game on my MBP for about an hour with my headphones on, the whole time not knowing that my speakers were still blaring! Strange how people don't step up and say something...
Sounds like a silly problem, but it's actually a pretty big deal. Shame they haven't fixed it yet. - Raian, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I don't know if this was in all versions-- but you don't have to burn a CD, you can create a folder-- check out the menu bar options.
- flamingmb, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14no if they would only fix the sound problem. Even when I have headphones in it still plays audio out the biult in speakers on my macbook pro. thats the only gripe I have. Any one else have this problem?
- ElectroBot, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10There is no eMac (for sale by Apple) anymore.
You mean the education iMac (17" with Intel graphics, no BT and a combo drive). - elpayo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7 @runmad - me too, but I suppose Apple had to write it's own driver for the iSight, microphone and add support for the new Mac Pros.
- i6koi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Apparently the clock issue has been fixed. From the FAQ:
"Why is the time different between Mac OS X and Windows XP on my computer?
This issue is addressed in Boot Camp Beta 1.1." - dbrodbeck, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Nope,
Start the assistant, burn the driver dc. Stop the assistant. Then rebot, start windows and insert the driver CD. Just did it, works like a charm. - cayqel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Just got a Macbook in the mail and DL'd bootcamp and got it installed. Didn't realize it was anything new until now. Sweet.
- sneeka2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Not to forget the updated AirPort drivers that finally work with the Japanese MacBook's AirMac cards. God I hated to be excluded from the wireless fun so far just because I bought my 'Book in Japan.
- corsairstw, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Woo-hoo! iSight support. I think this is the major feature that was missing from the Boot Camp drivers.
Now, Windows is basically complete on the Mac (not that that's necessarily a good thing). - ramsinks.com, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I know really like the way of right-clicking on my Macbook over a real "right click".
In Parallels, the two finger solute on the touchpad works in windows - does this way of right-clicking work in bootcamp? Not that I ever need windows.. but.. - corsairstw, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Um, because you need Boot Camp to burn the CD which has drivers for Windows on a Mac. Otherwise, you'll be running a very slow version of Windows with no graphics support, sound support, ethernet support, etc.
- misterjangles, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4this is really a nice update! anybody know the keyboard shortcut for printscreen? I figured out the following so far:
right-click = hold down the apple key to the right of the spacebar (apple key to the left of the spacebar doesn't seem to work the same)
for the volume and screen brightness, you hold down the fn key while pressing the volume up/down etc.
also, for delete (not backspace) you hold down the fn key while clicking the delete key. - folletto, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Tell me: why are you saying that here?
However:
(1) I've got an Apple Keyboard. The "Canc" key is there.
(2) Since the mouse isn't bundled with many Macs, if you take a two-or-more buttons mouse, you'll have two buttons. Exactly like any pc: you choose the mouse. (also, on *Books, if you keep two fingers on the pad the click is detected as right. Not really different from two physical buttons).
This, to say: you talk in the wrong place and say false facts. - raingrove, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4reboot using the Mac OS X Installation DVD, run Disk Utility then repair your disk.
- francisew, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I've just updated my system, and given a little synopsis of what worked and what didn't on my blog. Anyone who is wondering how the boot camp 1.1 upgrade will affect their macbook with bootcamp 1.0 might want to read my blog entry:
http://esmonde-white.com/blog/item/137/
I REALLY like the new webcam and microphone support... though watch out for the volume change with the ipod headphones! eeek. - ElectroBot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The driver disk jumped 110MB because it includes new Mac Pro NVidia GeForce 7300, ATI Radeon X1900, NVidia Quadro FX 4500 drivers and the new iSight driver.
- Virion, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3It's a good thing for me, now I don't need to switch to my desktop for easy windows use, though I still prefer Parallels since rebooting means limiting access to my OS X partition (Parallels is a nice way to avoid apps that don't run favorably through Rosetta, which is pretty much just Adobe products for me, these days. I'm especially looking at you, Flash 8.)
- iAlex, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3This is awesome! Boot Camp is great! Maybe you can install Windows Vista without deleting the EFI partion (hopes so!). As said, tripple and more boots would be cool.
- Kerr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4The jump from 90MB to 200MB is huge, wonder if there is more to the update then what they list on the website?
- misterjangles, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3if you have another mac and can boot your original in target disk mode, you can make a disk image of the whole thing including bootcamp and everything. I tried just about every disk cloner out there and there is only one that actually works with the XP partition. It's called copycatx by subrosa: http://www.subrosasoft.com/
I don't know if this will be helpful if you actually deleted your whole windows partition, it may not be recoverable. But, the target disk mode is very helpful - I wish windows machines had a similar option, it's really, really amazingly helpful for backing up and restoring disks. - darley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Updated previous version of Boot Camp to 1.1.
Got the great update for the audio and iSight.
Lost my Logitech v270 BlueTooth mouse though.
It is killing me to not be able to use my mouse. Anyone else have this issue or more importantly, a SOLUTION? - sneeka2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yeah yeah, very nice an' all, but it's VIRUSES, VIRUSES and, once again, VIRUSES!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plural_of_virus - misterjangles, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2It doesnt' seem to be the same. For one they use the apple key to the right of the spacebar for the right-click functionality and the fn key for the volume/brighness controls. I can't figure out how to do a screenshot yet, there doesn't seem to be any documentation on the keyboard shortcuts that I can find.
- ElectroBot, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Can you still boot into Mac OS X or Windows? (if yes then backup the data)
If you can't and you tried using your Mac in target disk mode without success then reinstall might be the only option. - 4ndr3w, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Can I update via software update or do I have to redownload it?
- dbrodbeck, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2redownload it, at least that was my experience.
- BRODEL, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Actually, I think it shows that they release good products and continue to improve on them. Now if only I could get my new wireless mighty mouse to work in XP. Not that I use XP on my macbook, but it would be sweet to use my mighty mouse on my PC at work.
- aftershave, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I wonder how the default keyboard key-assignment in the new drivers for Windows will affect the settings by the Input Remapper ( http://www.olofsson.info/index.html?inputremapper.html )
It's a great utility and lets me customize the keys to my liking. Would be a shame if 1.1 broke the latter. - thunderpaw, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4same here. that and it never remembers the time settings in windows. both minor inconveniences but still frustrating.
- elpayo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Built-in only at the moment - I watched Install Shield pretty closely while the drivers were registered and 'Built-In iSight Camera' was the description used.
- Quix, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Brilliant insight as always, mobilehavoc. And, as always, thanks for sharing.
- BRODEL, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2No, it's not only you. I have the pulsing mouse too in XP
- misterjangles, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5those of you digging up alecks, you do know that key shortcut he gave is the shortcut to close the active window, not printscreen? I'm only guessing that it was a sick, twisted joke.
- xoineg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Has anyone experienced problems when installing Messenger live in xp with bootcamp? My iMac crashes after installing it and reboots. I have read some post on the web about MSN live that it tries to access iSight, but with this new release maybe it works fine now. Anyone having this issue?
- diecastbeatdown, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2parellels will be great once they get the 3d support in there, which is coming supposedly. for now bootcamp is the only viable option for me since i use some programs in windows which only work in bootcamp because of the direct3d component.
- asdfer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So far, there's no software update option.
- asdfer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Most likely you need to fresh install your system. If you had been using the hard drive, Boot Camp Partitioner wouldn't be able to move those files to create the partition.
- weiran, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2They just worked for me.
I tried to pair it up but it couldn't find the device, but then I tried moving the mouse and it was working... - ElectroBot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2That would be bad especially for people who aren't knowledgable about computers.
Why try and find, then d/l the one for your model of Mac, when you can just d/l the one for all models. It eliminates confusion and the bandwidth difference is negligible (150 MB at most) for Apple. Helps techs too. They don't have to carry a CD with drivers for each model of Mac. -
