- gcclarke, on 10/12/2007, -5/+85Sheesh, title misled me into thinking that the movie itself hadn't been released in theaters yet, as opposed to just not having been released on itunes yet.
In other news, who the hell cares? - Sun.Surfin, on 10/12/2007, -5/+75I find it incredibly amusing that so many people are digging this down as inaccurate without taking the time to go check it out in iTunes for themselves. It's absolutely accurate! I'm downloading the "music video" right now, and it's 931.3mb long with 23 minutes remaining on the download. Don't be stupid and bury stuff because it seems unlikely to you... take the time to investigate/ check it out yourself...
- earliodookie, on 10/12/2007, -6/+63that would be one epic music video if it was that size...
like 60 Thrillers back to back... [shudders] - wdfmor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+40not hard to believe at all imho. who said itunes is flawless? guess he started the download without checking the size and left the machine running.
- NtroP, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25When this "music video" tops Apples sales charts and they realize that people were really trying to get an obscure John Wayne movie for $2 (where it never would have sold for $10), maybe Apple, et al, will see the light and start pricing their movies to sell, realizing they make a lot *more* money selling at $2 than at $10.
Yeah, probably not, but I'm downloading it now. Mostly 'cause of the price, but I'm also a John Wayne fan. FWIW, I would not have given this movie a second look if it had been priced at $10.
This is he same situation for the Forum Snowboard movie "That". I would never have purchased it at full price (I don't snowboard), but at $2 I was willing to give it a shot because my daughter is a photographer for pro boarders like this (no, she's not a "pro-ho"!). I loved it. I've seen it 5 times now, mostly because I showed it to my kids, coworkers and friends, many of which scampered off to iTMS to download their own copy (some of them even had to DL iTunes first). - NtroP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22As a John Wayne fan, I'm downloading it too. The sad part is that, even though I'm a John Wayne fan, If it had showed up at $10 I probably would not have downloaded it. At $2, though, I'd buy every film of his. So, by pricing this right, Apple is getting $2 more out of me than they would have otherwise. You'd think some bright marketing type would cotton on to that fact.
- TheG2, on 10/12/2007, -7/+25If the guy was trying to generate a hoax, he would have A) picked an unreleased to theatres movie and claim it downloaded or B) picked a more interesting hoax.
That being said, the stab at XP was pointless as I've seen OSX do much stupider things. - livetheride, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17The video he was trying to download:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jV1bRfLHA3A - ledmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Well I'm in the ITMS right now, and it does say that the video is an hour and a half long, and hitting the preview button does yield what seems to be credits from an old movie...
- AndrewJC, on 10/12/2007, -7/+21Why [shudder]? Thriller was an amazing music video.
- sruthmann, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15I'm downloading it right now from the iTMS. Good find.
- lb3ll, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13or you could actually check it out and find ITS TRUE!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13if you search for the movie on itms, it clearly states that the video is over an hour long
- Jahz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11All hail pencilneck3, the final word on what is Digg worthy!
- xerowhite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11a) How is the is a windows jab?
b) if you actually go on iTMS you will see it is not a hoax - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11"Anyways, just found this interesting. I managed to score a movie (which I will never watch, John Wayne went to my High School, but I’m not a fan of westerns)"
makes me sad that there are people who won't even give movies a chance - earliodookie, on 10/12/2007, -14/+23awww all you michael jackson fans took it personally =D
- mikeazorin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Damnit, no one read the article but me. He said that he just thought the computer calculated wrong.
"The copy dialog told me that it was 931mb and would take a few minutes to copy. After first dismissing the thought that OS X was, for a moment, behaving like Windows XP and simply estimating both the file size and the time to copy wrong, I became quite perplexed." - tonich03, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10BTW watch the music video, it's awesome.
- BadassCheese, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9That some how made me lose the game.
- dt40, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11"Don't be stupid and bury stuff because it seems unlikely to you... take the time to investigate/ check it out yourself..."
While I fully agree with your sentiment, I feel compelled to point out that it has been demonstrated time and again that intellectual rigor is not required here on Digg. - aristotle0dude, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8@narc: WTF? Are you twelve?
- Eastlygod, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Maxhrk - meet a calculator. Calculator - meet Maxhrk. I hope this is the beginning of a long and happy friendship.
- turquoisefish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Wow, the movie even shows up in the UK store, and we don't have movies yet. I can buy it for £1.89 (Apple have never heard of the exchange rate, that is about $4)
- klawz, on 10/12/2007, -13/+20AppleHumpers(tm) have iPenis, not ePenis.
- DannySpace, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Well, Pilgrim... I couldn't care one way or the other.
- LilBoyLuver, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7If only such things of this nature were up to Apple and not the movie studios. Apple has been fighting so hard just to get these prices we have now and most studios still haven't joined.
- Morgantor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6The bury-ers and the iTunes haters are missing the point. The real point is that iTunes should get the message that older movies should be priced accordingly and they'll make more money due to higher volume. I'm downloading it now. I certainly would not have at $10.
- Daracle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I am also downloading it from the Canadian Store.
I agree on the great find. - xerowhite, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Unreleased on iTMS ?
- Jahz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@maxhrk
Yes, idiot. 1.86 pounds is 3.67USD; it's been that way for a long time.
http://www.google.com/search?q=1.89+pounds+in+dollars - PixelVision, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Dugg for Muse
- Jules, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5WHY DID U REMIND ME OF THE GAME!?!?! I FORGOT IT FOR A YEAR!!!!
- paulstringer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Downloading from UK Store works as advertised, ace and I just got a DVI to Video adaptor today the stars are in alignments, is it in 3D that would just be the cherry on top.
- Mactard, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Why does he have to diss Windows? He is what makes Mac users look like snobs.
- panguin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3/has just lost the game.
damnyouall. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+37.2 on imdb
- aristotle0dude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Downloading now.
@Apple and movie/tv studios: Get off your asses and give us TV and movies on iTMS in Canada. Do it sooner rather than later. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2haha, safe for now. Until I remember about posting this and lose the game all over again
- nate263, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2From Wikipedia: "Several times on the show Married... with Children, Al Bundy refers to it [Hondo] as 'The greatest movie of all that come on TV once in a while'. On several episodes, Al has tried to watch Hondo on televison but has to usually overcome obstacles such as getting rid of Peg's family for a day or doing chores."
I guess the movie is not as obscure as it seems. - briangig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I was more surprised that people buy music videos...but this is interesting either way. They are probably releasing the entire john wayne collection at WWDC or something..
- Greyfox1221, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What is "The Game"
- mrblack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is quite interesting as you can get it in the UK. So far all we have in the UK is pixar shorts, no tv show, no films. Im downloading it now.
- actorboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"...some John Wayne western movie called Hondo."
Kids these days. - driftwood07, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2link to muse video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jV1bRfLHA3A
- Sun.Surfin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3*cries*
I lose The Game.
Thanks a lot, badasscheese. - darkamster07, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm thinking of downloading it, but is it a good movie?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i'd say saving 8 bucks on a john wayne flick is front page worthy, and at least a front page dupe
- avions, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hondo is a Warner Brother's film.
- ccanni1028, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Correction: It's the iTS - the iTunes Store. They dropped the 'Music' part a while ago when they started adding more movies and TV shows.
