- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -16/+71This is not even close, Gates is not only the richest man in the world he is also one of the greatest if not the greatest philanthropists of our time.

Gate's house comes before the white house. Like Gates or not, money rules and he has a lot of it. - NerveBand, on 10/12/2007, -1/+50***** your reverse psychology. *****.
- azAZ09, on 10/12/2007, -1/+45The narrator, Alvin Hill, is annoying.
- chris4404, on 10/12/2007, -17/+60Gates FTW.
Uses his money to save the world.
Jobs FTL.

Digg me down! :P - GMorgan, on 10/12/2007, -7/+29Gates can move governments, Jobs only really affects the Apple crowd. I think old Bill wins this one hands down.
- HerrEisenheim, on 10/12/2007, -8/+30Bill Gates has the money. Bill Gates has the power.
I'm probably going to get buried for saying this, but Steve Jobs is a tool. He got fired from his own company for being a douchebag and not listening to the board, and then got rehired years later to be public tool speaker. Everyone gets this idea that CEOs control companies. They don't. They are puppets. They get paid a lot of money to be public speaker of a company and its fall guy. When things are good the CEO gets the credit, when they are bad he takes the fall, but he his power is limited. It's the Board of Directors that has the power. In fact, Steve Jobs probably has more power at Disney than he does at Apple. - JeffH, on 10/12/2007, -5/+26Linus can't even get people to agree on which desktop enviornment is best. Even as joke it's sad to even mention him.

The narrator is American. You idiot. - lava, on 10/12/2007, -5/+25"sway people into buying products"
Most people have bought more stuff from microsoft than from apple. My hat's off to apple for their success with mp3 players, but it's no comparison to the windows juggernaut. - hagbard72, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15That video is about five years old.

Ain't that ironic? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+23Bill Gates is one of the greatest philanthropists of our time, and people STILL think he's an asswipe. That says something in itself.
- MikeCerm, on 10/12/2007, -13/+25If he wanted to prove his power, Bill Gates could buy a majority stake in both Disney and Apple, and fire Steve from both of his jobs. I'm not saying he would, or that he should, just that he could. That makes Bill Gates much more powerful.
- pengu, on 10/12/2007, -6/+17@Scheissen:
While you yanks insist on spelling half the words in the dictionary different, and using a different measuring system, I dont think you should be criticizing any country on it's accent. oh and of course. every time you say "***** brits, learn to talk properly" i just think of Dubbya.
oh and I'm not a brit either, i just think they have a slightly higher standing than you lot. - patience, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12@iNunchuk
Ever heard of the Gates Foundation and its work in Africa. Geez man. I don't want to insult you but do a little research before mouthing off in front of thousands.
I like Steve Jobs but in terms of humanitarian work, he is LAGGING way behind. - aloser, on 10/12/2007, -10/+21Actually.. even if he wanted to, he couldn't. Apple's market cap: 78.64B, Disney's market cap: 72.27B, add together divide by 2 = ~75.45B to have 50% of each company. Gates' wealth: ~56B.
Not to mention he'd have to liquidate his assets to even try.. and the share prices would skyrocket as he tried to buy. - arkanebeats, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10signing your initials at the bottom of your post..
-makesyouadouchebag ;) - Electric_Sheep, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15@say592
Where have you been living? Under a rock? Microsoft doesn't own Apple stock in any way what so ever. Apple bought back all of those shares ages ago. Microsoft has absolutely no say in what Apple does.
Besides, those shares microsoft did have in the 1990's were NON-VOTING shares, and they were under an agreement that they couldn't sell them until a certain time-frame. Like i said, Apple bought them back later. You have no idea what you're talking about. - pengu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Desktop environment? they can't even agree on HOW TO LICENCE the damn thing.
- dysonlu, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13Ask your 70 years-old grand-mother who Bill Gates is, then ask her about Steve Jobs. Her answer will tell who's more powerful.
- Tarl, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I'm undecided. Even though the last Apple I owned was in 1992.
- Darcy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12NSResponder, what makes you think Vista has flopped? It was predicted by much of the tech media that it would be DOA, or adoption would be very slow, due to the endless barrage of anti-Vista FUD stories leading up to it shipping (pretty much like every other windows release). In reality though adoption has been slightly better than MS expected in most countries, and far better than the media wanted it to be. Do you have evidence to suggest MS are not telling the truth about the adoption rate?
- bIuebonics, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7yes, convincing people are powerful. however, the world literally revolves around money. money = power. the richest man in the world, whether he uses it/knows it or not, is the most powerful man in the world. bribes, payoffs, etc. don't often work for a lot of people as they don't have enough money to really make it worth everyone's while. however, when you have the potential to offer someone a billion dollars and see it as a slight loss, you can buy your way out of or into anything you want.
- joeydoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7This isn't a "documentary" this a TV show.... This is what they look like when the network isn't out for profit. It's a show..... which is informative, ratings are irrelevant to the BBC.
- whistlerpro, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Very true, soon Steve Jobs will be the only personality behind computing. Nobody likes Steve Ballmer.
- jazzyjayx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I think that a lot of Digg users are confusing "Internet Popularity" with "Power". Not that "Power" is a completely objective term that can be easily defined... because it's not. :)
Steve Jobs is doing very well at the moment. However, Bill Gates is RICHEST MAN IN THE WORLD. That is not something to be taken lightly. He also gives away MASSIVE amounts of his money. (I don't know if it's true or not, but it'd be funny if it turned out Gates has given away more money than Jobs has earned in his life, or some similar comparison).
A lot of people on the internet don't seem to know anything about either person, other than "Jobs works for this company that makes those cool MP3 players and neat computers with funny commercials. Gates works for a company that makes a product everyone bitches about. Jobs must be more powerful." - jaydj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@OBKenobi
"Gates is giving away his fortune with the same gusto he spent acquiring it, throwing billions of dollars at solving global health problems. He has also spoken out on major policy issues, for example, by opposing proposals to cut back the inheritance tax.
In contrast, Jobs does not appear on any charitable contribution lists of note. And Jobs has said nary a word on behalf of important social issues, reserving his talents of persuasion for selling Apple products. "

For the AVI. Apologies for the long link. - dahamsta, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Where in god's name did they get the presenter? I just couldn't watch the programme for that fey tosser.
- samuelcotterall, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Dude, he makes me want to throw up.
- sv650touring, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3the initials thing doesn't bother me. It's the use of *****, made-up acronyms that defines this person as a douchebag.
kthxbai! - bbardlbradd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Things not mentioned:
While Steve was going through his rough period, being forced to leave his own company, he created another High end computer/workstation company for colleges and so on called NeXT with an innovative and powerful GUI driven OS called NextStep. (The platform used to create the internet as we know it)
This is where OS X came from.
Jobs left apple, founded NeXT, created the foundation for what is now considered to be the most advanced OS for personal computers, helped Pixar along, and you all pretty much know the rest...
What has bill gates personally done lately for Microsoft? What has and is Steve Jobs doing for Apple? Well steve isn't making more spreadsheet applications...
You all need to look up NextStep (1993-1996) and compare it to Windows 95 and even 98... maybe even Windows 2000. For the size of the two companies Windows should have been a little closer to the curve.
- Szandor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"...no-one gives a ***** if you feed the homeless or save the children... "
I think the homeless and the children 'give a *****'. - aceuk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Agreed. He is definitely the most annoying presenter I have EVER seen on TV.
- Atomic1fire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Perhaps you should leave the Iraq war out of this
it has nothing to do with the subject
stop trying to push an agenda where its irrelevant to be pushed - loganhid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Who's More Powerful - Steve Jobs or Bill Gates? - theres only one way to finf out
Fight to the Death - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Well he's certainly given away thousands of times more (perhaps higher) than Jobs ever has/will/can.
