I know I sure as hell could on mine. - eplawless, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16Less emphasis on the iPod? But the iPod has market share. Why would you de-emphasize their only product with good market share?
- ThinkBox, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17That massage bar you speak of... will it have happy endings? (Virus free i assume)
- gr8one, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14I heard the front door will resemble a giant click wheel.
- SteaminTmann, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9I heard the lock is on the top right corner....
- ThinkBox, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8The people at the Genius bar are very friendly and knowledgeable. When I was shopping for a G5 I asked them some serious questions and they surprised me several times with technical information in lamens terms. They even showed me several sites where I could buy extra ram for my computer (before I even asked).

WTF? LMAO - scoobydiesel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Just wish i had an Apple store closer then 2 plus hours away...
- juanbobo808, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Wow, those are some amazing statistics.
...how do they only have a 10% market share on Microsoft again? - itsbetteronamac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I heard more wood less white. My Apple guy said that they are getting all new furniture and that instead of the glossy white vaneer, they would be replacing it with natural wood.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I submitted this article yesterday. I'm just a little frustrated when a fellow Digg user with a higher friend count can re-post just about anyones article (hours later) and get it to the front page. This has happened to me twice today and really discourages me from submitting anymore articles. I hope Digg(TM) can correct this issue before "lower ranking people" give up trying to make a contribution to this site.
I have no interest in becoming a top Digg user....I'm just tried of getting pissed on. - splatnik, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I wish they would change the name of the "geniuses" to something else. There's just something so pompus about calling them that. I love apple but come on...
- Quix, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7"how will they find enough people willing to work for 12 dollars an hour when they could be making three times that elsewhere with the same skills?"
Perhaps some people prefer the fun of working in an Apple Store to getting paid more to work in some corporate den of misery.
And speaking as someone working in a corporate den of misery, working at the Genius Bar is sounding like a pretty good proposition - pay cut and all.
Sometimes it's not about money. - Sixcolors, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I've only been to the Plano store a few times and it was only busy once. I guess because I can usually go in the middle of the day on a weekday. *shrug* Their Genius Bar is a fraction of the size of the one in the San Francisco store, though. Good thing The Shops at Willowbend is a halfway decent mall. I could kill three hours in a GameStop. :D
- mnrosebud, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4If you have ever had a Mac you would know that most can be upgraded easily.
- SniperGX1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4If you have ever been in an apple store for more than 30 seconds you would notice 99% of the people looking for help don't know how to do things and want to talk to someone. If you have something broken they are good about getting you an RMA request quickly, just talk to one of the dirty hippie lookin folks that wander around and ask people if they need help.
- ThinkBox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@ zenmouse
Money isn't everything. Maybe when you get a job and move out of your parents basement you will realize that to some people, work environment is more important than $$$ - ersnyder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you've spent 3 hours in an Apple Store for service, you're an idiot. If you didn't know it before you went in, in those three hours you should have figured out you can make a reservation for the Bar from home before you come in. That way, you will have a better grasp on the wait and do something more productive with your life, like enjoy life away from the computer.
And for those who say, "I thought Macs weren't supposed to break anyway." You're idiots too if you think a product that you bought that out dates it's self in 3 months won't have some sort off issues. More often than not an Apple computer will be problem free. But with a rise in Computer sales, the ratio of bad computers to good will rise. They are computers, they ALL have problems and they ALL break from time to time. Get over yourself. - SadPanda, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Sounds good, can't wait untill we actually know what it looks like...
- angelp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@Frankie - 3 hour wait? I'm going to ignore your history of trolling Apple stories for just a minute. You've had to wait 3 hours (or someone you know)? Is this with a reservation?
- splatnik, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3How about a store with enough staff so I can actually get my mac serviced there? The store in austin is always packed...
- envy860, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Just wondering, and I'm sure the design will be different, but every apple store I've been in (and I've been to quite a few) share similar design to the Fifth Ave. store. So would being inspired by the Fifth Ave. store create pretty much what they already have?
Also, they really do focus more on computers more than iPods. They might have a display in the window of iPods, but usually you have to walk through the computers to get to the iPods.
Either way, I really like the styling of the stores. Just being in them is an expereince itself. - angelp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Apparently that person believes that the Apple store should be more about relaxation than making money (fondues, massages, etc.).
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How about opening a store in Maine and other states which still lack an Apple store, before "upgrading" existing stores?
- souljah4jc916, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1A little less focus on the iPod would be good too. Its incredible what a simple, trendy atmosphere will do to promote item sales in the store, concurrent with its products. I think that is what distinguishes Apple products from every other computer, Mp3, electronic component, etc. User friendly products and extensive marketing strategies have given this company a distinctive edge in the field of technology.
- zenmouse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1touché, Thinkbox. I take it from how you comment about work environment that you work for an Apple store? Or maybe you're just assuming that working for an Apple store is as magical as being an Apple fanboy?
I don't know a whole lot, living in a basement like I do, but I would think there's a bit more to a job than the front that the consumers see.. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Not everyone enjoys shopping in a cubby hole.
They have a nice design, everything is accessable.
ever see those Dell Kiosks in malls... they seem cheap and dinky to me. Like I wanna drop over a grand at a small kiosk. A nice designed store normally means nicely designed products.
Yes I said it, marketing and design MATTER when purchasing a computer. (not just in the hardware/software) - geezusfreeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This makes me even more excited about the Apple store they are (finally) building here in Hunstville, AL.
- dzarkw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Actually all the newer stores already have all wood coutertops and tables - threre's almost no glossy white. The white was a characteristic of the older stores that opened first. They have been updating the older ones with the newer stuff. They have also been putting less of an emphasis on the theater and more on the bar and studio.
- MikeCerm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+210%? Yeah, right! Maybe half of that, somewhere down in Linux territory. Not that there's anything wrong with miniscule marketshare. Apple and Linux users are very happy with their chosen operating systems.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+8They need to fix iTunes 7 first.
- babakshirazi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0
Because if you don't already have an Apple store, chances are your state is a ***** up place. Save your 2 grand and buy a plane ticket. - buyer687, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Are they going to include a search function in the upgrade?
- babakshirazi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0
Buying a computer w/ upgrading in mind makes virtually no sense these days.
Within two years, whatever you buy today will be pretty much out dated. Get the max memory you need now. You can always add a hard drive via USB or Firewire later. The only real thing left would the be graphics card. Two years from now, I'll gladly take the newest machine on the market vs. your old ass machine w/ a new graphics card. After two years, most of your connections and components will too old school to even upgrade. - rickcarson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The last survey we had on Digg for which no-one seriously challenged the stats had Linux on about 0.5%, Different flavours of OS X on about 4%, miscellaneous other stuff about 0.5% and different flavours of Windows making up the remainder.
So I wouldn't call Linux and OS X the same... maybe from Microsoft's point of view, but from each other's point of view... one of these things is eight times the size of the other... - wyzik, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3the upgrade will require two putty knives....
- robbclark, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1a free blowjob would be great as well
- MikeCerm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2No search, but all 4 customers in the the store will each have their own room. They're calling it "Spaces".
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Are you kidding? Every apple store is a flat, uninspiring square with bad lighting somehow, some way, five products taking up 10,000 square feet?
It's an anti-tardis. (apologies)
The door to the 5th avenue store is pretty cool though. - Ellsass, on 11/05/2008, -2/+1"One more thing... Apple is merging with Eddie Bauer."
- sakuraz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Just like the hobbit's one from the shire?
- VolsFan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0@igotdugout
your != you're - Frankie4Fingers, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1The stores are like the Bose store... they have like 10 products but take up a whole store. What a waste of funds. They should just sell off of a kiosk. lol
- Chipsandsnacks, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1If they're going to redesign their new apple stores, the fifth avenue store (the interior at least) shouldn't be their inspiration.
- zenmouse, on 10/12/2007, -8/+5Haha yes, how will they find enough people willing to work for 12 dollars an hour when they could be making three times that elsewhere with the same skills? Somehow I think the term "genius" is meant to be an inside joke of some sort.
- Frankie4Fingers, on 10/12/2007, -9/+5The store in Plano TX is also always like 3 hour wait for service..... I thought Mac's never had issues and never had to be repaired....
- nova9, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1How about a complimentary hand job dumbass.
- aschmack, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3I thought that apples couldn't be upgraded? Are they just going to raze each store and build an entirely new one?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3Thanks for Re-Submitting my article for me iFelix.....So much for Digg's new Algorithm update.
- Burmask, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1Will they be playing Brokeback Mountain over and over again?
