- moisie, on 05/19/2008, -5/+101Why would this keyboard be specifically for Apple TV? Why would it need multi-touch anymore than a Mac, or even as much as? In addition, the Apple TV doesn't have bluetooth, and as such the thing would be needlessly useless on a Mac. More likely, if they ever did release one would be it could be used on a Mac and they'd release an Apple TV with bluetooth and add generic keyboard functionality for use with any keyboard.
- frazw, on 05/19/2008, -5/+38Aren't all keyboards multi touch?
/bad joke - Ksg89, on 05/19/2008, -4/+29lul wut? i can press multiple keys on my keyboard at a time!
- bpeacock22, on 05/19/2008, -1/+15Um, Apple TV doesn't have bluetooth, so this rumor is impossible.
- flipmeat, on 05/19/2008, -2/+16Hogwash.
- moisie, on 05/19/2008, -2/+15How do you get crumbs in it?
- moisie, on 05/19/2008, -0/+13Not if you pair the remote to the device.
- MacParrot, on 05/19/2008, -2/+15Hey, let's make the iPod-like pad on the one in the middle even bigger because it isn't quite ugly enough yet
- _skin_, on 05/19/2008, -0/+12You ever search for a video on youtube? You can enter text in a number of places on the Apple TV.
- TopSlacker, on 05/19/2008, -1/+10Buried for blogspam.
Original article http://macenstein.com/default/archives/1364 - MCA2142, on 05/19/2008, -0/+9chips ahoy
- SirPasta117, on 05/19/2008, -0/+8Why do people keep making concepts with the iPod wheel involved? Apple is moving away from that.
- eatsleeptrumpet, on 05/19/2008, -4/+11The ATV already has bluetooth built in, it's just not being used for anything yet.
- SirPasta117, on 05/19/2008, -1/+7Then it becomes a Mac Mini. Which is already on the market so why would they make a machine to out sell another machine? Thats why Apple doesnt want OEMs out on the market. All about control
- protodon, on 05/19/2008, -3/+9Most people may disagree but I'm all for a flat touchpad keyboard with non-moving keys . Maybe like the iphone where keys are dynamic and can grow and shrink to suit what you're writing. It may also keep me from going completely mad one day and killing all olympic typists in earshot. Although I don't know if fast fingers drumming on a hard plastic board would be any better.
- tcpip4lyfe, on 05/19/2008, -0/+6I have a keyboard on my coffee table. Probably one of the reasons I'm single.
- MiDri, on 05/19/2008, -0/+5Hide it behind the recliner! Thats how I roll!
- eekfuh, on 05/19/2008, -0/+5Multi-touch and E-Ink... I presume
- moisie, on 05/19/2008, -0/+5I was pretty sure the ATV doesn't have Bluetooth.
- Wetzilla, on 05/19/2008, -0/+4I've tried typing on something similar, one of those projected keyboards that then record where your fingers hit, and it's awful. After a few minutes your fingers start to hurt, because, at least for me, without the resistance of the keys I ended up hitting the table pretty hard. Also, while the iPhone keyboard is alright after some practice with your thumbs, it is a whole different case with your whole hands, and it's practically impossible to type without looking down at the table to make sure your fingers are lining up with the keyboard, and you didn't move slightly off.
- colinjnk, on 02/25/2009, -1/+5I hope this will be a universal keyboard rather than a Apple TV-only product - I don't think the Apple TV even has Bluetooth to support this kind of device! Maybe they could put a Bluetooth receiver in some sort of a USB stick, but that might not go well with some people. But, I'd still love to have something like this for my iMac.
- LeeSoong, on 05/19/2008, -2/+6If Apple would just add Safari internet, e-mail,
.Mac, and camera / printer support - they sure would sell a lot more AppleTVs.
The ''Information Appliance'' - most of the functionality of a computer, without the complexity.
Internet, e-mail, music, movies, TV shows, photos, and printing = 80% of home computer use.
You don't need a 4 CPU, Quad Core 16 core machine to do the basics.
The AppleTV could become the 'kids pc' or second pc to handle quick tasks and entertainment in the living room. A cheap little box that does a whole lot, just plug in the TV and go.
The 1 TB TimeMachine product from Apple could act as the main storage server for peoples movies and TV shows, music and music videos.
Upgrade the AppleTV design for a slightly faster CPU, a bit more RAM, and much stronger GPU and you have a video game machine too.
When Mr. Jobs says AppleTV is a ''Hobby'' - look out, because Apple is going to make AppleTV as successful as the iPod and iPhone . . . - teh_techie, on 05/19/2008, -0/+4Comment buried for covering up swearwords.
- mikev, on 05/19/2008, -1/+5And Apple would release a peripheral requiring a hack why?
- Intamin, on 05/19/2008, -0/+4It's funny because it's true. Give yourself more credit! :)
- MacParrot, on 05/19/2008, -1/+5Why not just stop hating Apple? You don't HAVE to love and worship (or hate and despise) them. It's just a company that puts out products, some of which you don't want to use.
- jeriqo, on 05/19/2008, -0/+4Wait, a fake mock up? Impossible. FAKE
- ninjadave, on 05/19/2008, -0/+4Since when is a keyboard a computer?
- skidooer, on 05/19/2008, -0/+3The iPhone/iPod Touch would be the perfect remote for the AppleTV. Move all the on screen menus to the remote and let the TV do what it does best: Video.
- nebkiwi, on 05/19/2008, -0/+3you can run safari, firefox and skype on the apple tv, one of the many apple tv hacks there are for it , the apple tv basically just runs tiger. if you look on youtube theres a few videos of it running some cool apps..
- karlhite, on 05/19/2008, -2/+5every day is more frequent than every 2 weeks...
- jgtg32a, on 05/19/2008, -0/+3To score points with the linux junkies.
- darkciti2, on 05/19/2008, -0/+3The any key.
- inactive, on 05/19/2008, -0/+3WITCH!
- GREEDOnvrFIRED, on 05/19/2008, -1/+4Download visual hub. I watch everything on apple TV. Movies I take with my camera. Movies I download on the Internet. Movies I already own. Just drag them into visual hub and set it for "Apple TV." It couldn't be easier. You drag a file in and it is converted and shows up on your Apple TV. Literally ONE step. And yes it works on xvid, divx, wma, wmv, mov, avi... you get the idea.
- LeeSoong, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2One More Thing . . .
Add DVR into the AppleTV 3.0, simply saving your recordings into iTunes - and the AppleTV becomes a nice little TiVo like product.
Steve Jobs said Apple developed the iPhone based off
of all the things people hate about their smart cell phones.
It shows - the iPhone is a pleasure to use.
Now, think of all the things people hate about their computer,
and about their VCR.
Consumers just want a box that plugs into the internet without problems - web pages and email and their happy.
Consumers want to record TV shows without problems,
just look at a listing, click it, and later - you can watch it.
No clock to set, no times to enter, no media to load / unload /rewind or buy. One click TV recording.
The closest people get to that is TiVo and
http://www.elgato.com
eyeTV products.
If Apple can use it's newly purchased Chip maker company
to make a super powerful, super cheap, low power AppleTV,
that would make good business sense, and huge profits for
iTunes:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P.A._Semi - jeriqo, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2Breaking it? I think it's pretty solid.
- LeeSoong, on 05/19/2008, -1/+3http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/sm/WF25a/3219 ...
There, Done.
Just add this next step:
http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Instal ... - LeeSoong, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2It does have 1 USB 2.0 port,
so no problem plugging in a little bluetooth nub:
http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&u=http ... - rdas7, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2This would make sense for the desktop, not necessarily for Apple tv.
Either way, how awesome would that be: stop everyone whining about Mac's not having 2 mouse buttons. Macs wouldn't have mice! It'd be multi-touch trackpad goodness all the way! - LeeSoong, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2No,
A mac-mini is the next step up - it comes with
A Core 2 Duo, 1 or 2 GB of RAM, and the DVD superdrive,
and Apple could even up that to a BlueRay Superdrive.
Apple is good at pricing things right to prevent 'cannibalization' of one product line from another.
If you want to do Word, Photoshop, etc - ''full power computer applications'' - you step up to the Mac Mini.
If you just need a box that will connect your TV to the internet and act as a Point of Sale device for iTunes, and allow you to surf the web, send emails, and print photos - AppleTV is more than enough.
Not to mention AppleTV revision 3.0 with bluetooth would make a nice little game box - compatible with all the new software being developed for the iPhone too.
See the WWDC for more details:
http://developer.apple.com/ - jeriqo, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2Then you use your right hand.
- Gavin, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2They need one for the iMac. I would love one.
- thedrue, on 05/19/2008, -1/+3What bad reviews? This is only a mockup designed by someone completely unrelated to Apple. Apple may or may not create something similar but rest assured it will be more useable and better thought out than this device is. Come to think of it I cannot think of many negative reviews of Apple products as a whole, although some people do not like some aspects of their design and software. Perhaps its your department that is not working right...
- judicar, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2It's an AppleTV, not an Apple Computer, it's not an information appliance. It's meant to playback content wirelessly to a TV. I do agree it should have DVR capability though, some day maybe, but then I get this just fine with my Elgato Hybrid on my mac mini, just convert and upload to appletv
- sleepwalkers, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2Apple could tune the AppleTV to be a more versatile "home theater" appliance.
A tailored version of Safari, maybe allowing widgets, maybe e-mail and allowing one of the Time Capsules to be a central server for the Apple TV doesn't make the Apple TV a Mac Mini. There'd still be a significant advantage to the Mac Mini (namely, having a true computer), while making the Apple TV a far more attractive living room appliance to compliment a TiVo or other DVR. - brownrecluse888, on 05/19/2008, -4/+6I personally love my appletv so much that I cancelled my cable tv altogether. I spent a few months using the free handbrake software and I know have my entire DVD collection available to watch at any time without loading a single dvd at the same quality as the original dvd. I can at the press of a button listen to any of my music, watch thousands of free video podcasts, etc. And now I can even rent a movie without having to drive to blockbuster or wait a netflix envelope to show up. My cable service was costing me $79 per month, and now I spent roughly $20 bucks a month by download some of my favorite tv episodes via Itunes.
And as far a high def dvd player? Now I don't even need one of those since I can now rent high def movies directly from my appletv unit without even having my computer on.
So I don't know how anyone can call this a useless device.... - thatsmyaibo, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2I used to hate the ATV. I thought it was another pointless gimmicky Apple product. Well now I have one and after DLing a ton of TV torrents and ripping DVDs I get from Netflix it is the best component in my room.
- Vector713, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2Shenanigans.
- karlhite, on 05/19/2008, -1/+3Same philosophy as the mouse; with two buttons it's possible to get confused. My keyboard trips me out constantly.
