Apple to release special multi touch keyboard for Apple TV
crunchgear.com — Apple is rumored to release a new, wireless keyboard specifically for Apple TV, with multi touch capabilities.

- digg it
- moisie, on 05/19/2008, -5/+101Why would this keyboard be specifically for Apple TV? Why would it need multi-touch anymore than a Mac, or even as much as? In addition, the Apple TV doesn't have bluetooth, and as such the thing would be needlessly useless on a Mac. More likely, if they ever did release one would be it could be used on a Mac and they'd release an Apple TV with bluetooth and add generic keyboard functionality for use with any keyboard.
- ghaib, on 05/19/2008, -12/+1The keyboard doesn't need to be powered via Bluetooth, heck, could be WiFi powered :)
Anyhow, still doesn't look like something Apple would release, at least those mock up shots.- robbh66, on 05/19/2008, -2/+3Yes, it does need to have bluetooth- unless you want to be changing the batteries every day.
- chanop, on 05/19/2008, -4/+2Huh? I had a bluetooth keyboard and mouse, after changing the batteries every 2 weeks, I picked up wired mouse/keyboard
- karlhite, on 05/19/2008, -2/+5every day is more frequent than every 2 weeks...
- migitalwarfare, on 05/20/2008, -0/+1wooooosh
- robbh66, on 05/19/2008, -2/+3Yes, it does need to have bluetooth- unless you want to be changing the batteries every day.
- eatsleeptrumpet, on 05/19/2008, -4/+11The ATV already has bluetooth built in, it's just not being used for anything yet.
- moisie, on 05/19/2008, -0/+5I was pretty sure the ATV doesn't have Bluetooth.
- jeriqo, on 05/19/2008, -3/+1Couldn't infrared by used for that anyway?
- naden, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1Looks like it might:
http://wiki.awkwardtv.org/wiki/Enable_Bluetooth
- chaosevil, on 05/19/2008, -7/+1Theres a hack to use a usb BT adpt. So yes you go BT.
- mikev, on 05/19/2008, -1/+5And Apple would release a peripheral requiring a hack why?
- jgtg32a, on 05/19/2008, -0/+3To score points with the linux junkies.
- moisie, on 05/19/2008, -0/+5I was pretty sure the ATV doesn't have Bluetooth.
- jmreid, on 05/19/2008, -4/+3First thing I thought when I read the headline was, "Oh you mean an iPhone?" Now that would be cool.
- citirae, on 05/19/2008, -1/+3When searching for movies, shows or youtube videos on Apple TV, you may use the remote to type keywords on a virtual key board. It's super annoying, and would prefer the keyboard to the remote to Apple TV browsing.
But you're right about Apple TV not having bluetooth. :/ - rheaume, on 05/19/2008, -3/+1I like seeing "needlessly useless" and "Mac" together, it reassures me there is still some intelligence in the world
- mstrebe, on 05/19/2008, -1/+2I like seeing "redundantly verbose" together as well, for the same reason.
- ghaib, on 05/19/2008, -12/+1The keyboard doesn't need to be powered via Bluetooth, heck, could be WiFi powered :)
- daGUY, on 05/19/2008, -13/+5Perhaps for a Mac this would make sense, but why the heck would you need a keyboard for Apple TV? There's nowhere at all that you input text...
- rebotfc, on 05/19/2008, -2/+1For when they add the ipod touch/iphone internet features to apple TV. i.e. Safari, mail, ichat sms messaging etc.
Apple are creating a platform in the living room, appliance by appliance. - _skin_, on 05/19/2008, -0/+12You ever search for a video on youtube? You can enter text in a number of places on the Apple TV.
- daGUY, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1You're right, my mistake. Still, the addition of a keyboard would seem to contradict the idea that the Apple TV should work without a computer, which was one of the main selling points of the 2.0 firmware...
- ninjadave, on 05/19/2008, -0/+4Since when is a keyboard a computer?
- daGUY, on 05/21/2008, -0/+1Gah. I'm saying, it would be weird to advertise that it "doesn't require a computer" and yet ship it with a keyboard, because the thing is pretty much a Mac mini as it is.
- daGUY, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1You're right, my mistake. Still, the addition of a keyboard would seem to contradict the idea that the Apple TV should work without a computer, which was one of the main selling points of the 2.0 firmware...
- neferiousrich, on 05/19/2008, -1/+1yet..
- citirae, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2When searching for movies, shows or youtube videos on Apple TV, you may use the remote to type keywords on a virtual key board. It's super annoying, and would prefer the keyboard to the remote to Apple TV browsing.
- rebotfc, on 05/19/2008, -2/+1For when they add the ipod touch/iphone internet features to apple TV. i.e. Safari, mail, ichat sms messaging etc.
- BrendanSheehan, on 05/19/2008, -16/+15Yeah when, 2010? Keep dreaming. A multi-touch keyboard will come for the Mac, but don't expect it for a few years. As for the Apple TV? That has a remote. Though Apple may make a soft remote app for the iPhone/iPod touch (they have patents for that). That's about it though. Don't expect a $299 multi-touch keyboard specifically for the Apple TV ever! The fact of the matter is nobody wants a keyboard on their coffee table, and very very few that may like the idea would pay the costs to get it. Therefore the whole market for this device is is a non-market.
- citirae, on 05/19/2008, -1/+3I thought about the not wanting a keyboard on the coffee table thing, but entering alphabetical values into the Apple TV is so annoying, I wouldn't mind.
Also, with potential software improvments, it would be nice to browse the web on TV. - tcpip4lyfe, on 05/19/2008, -0/+6I have a keyboard on my coffee table. Probably one of the reasons I'm single.
- MiDri, on 05/19/2008, -0/+5Hide it behind the recliner! Thats how I roll!
- redwallhp, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2How about a FrogPad? http://www.frogpad.com/
- mstrebe, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1Totally true. I have an AppleTV, and while entering text is horrible (makes YouTube useless), There's no way I'd leave a keyboard laying around and I'm a huge nerd. The same problem exists for the Tivo, but keyboards aren't going to solve the problem. A gesture remote with an accelerometer (ala WiiMote) would be better, being able to bluetooth my iPhone's keyboard to the AppleTV would be better still, and some artificial intelligence that could sense my mood, my wife's mood, and just start playing something that we're both pleased with would be best.
- coreyb, on 05/20/2008, -0/+1Well if we had mood sensing Tivos, I would end up watching a lot of Victoria's Secret's runway reruns... Bad idea.
- citirae, on 05/19/2008, -1/+3I thought about the not wanting a keyboard on the coffee table thing, but entering alphabetical values into the Apple TV is so annoying, I wouldn't mind.

- diggerphelps, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1*****.
- MacParrot, on 05/19/2008, -2/+15Hey, let's make the iPod-like pad on the one in the middle even bigger because it isn't quite ugly enough yet
- MCA2142, on 05/19/2008, -11/+4Nah.
But instead, how about a vacuum for the keyboard.
I mean, Sweet Jesus. How in the hell do you get crumbs out of the new apple keyboard?- moisie, on 05/19/2008, -2/+15How do you get crumbs in it?
- MCA2142, on 05/19/2008, -0/+9chips ahoy
- punkcat, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1Wheat thins
- jpnadia, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2I don't understand why they don't seal all keyboards now. We have the technology.
- punkcat, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1the new aluminum keyboard is sealed take a look. i have been thinking of buying just for the crumb issue.
- Chirp08, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2the only downside is the white keys get dirty, but they clean up easy, just a damp paper towel will take off 99% of the dirt.
- postalblowfish7, on 05/19/2008, -1/+2i think he's talking about the 'tray' style keyboard that came right before the aluminum one. i have one too, and it's full of refuse food crumbs and bits of pot.
- rheaume, on 05/19/2008, -4/+1Just buy the new ivacuum, only 400,000$!
- moisie, on 05/19/2008, -2/+15How do you get crumbs in it?
- etwombly, on 05/19/2008, -7/+2AppleTV may have a remote, but it is horrible.
Not only does it set off the newer laptops as well when you use the buttons, its navigation capabilities are obnoxious if you actually want to use YouTube much.
Whether this is true or not, I hope Apple does make something to improve the AppleTV controls.- moisie, on 05/19/2008, -0/+13Not if you pair the remote to the device.
- RudeTurnip, on 05/19/2008, -1/+2I think the input and navigation method for YouTube on the ATV is fine, but the remote is so tiny, I feel like I'm going to break it. I ended up adding the codes to my universal remote, which is bigger and sturdier.
- jeriqo, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2Breaking it? I think it's pretty solid.
- skidooer, on 05/19/2008, -0/+3The iPhone/iPod Touch would be the perfect remote for the AppleTV. Move all the on screen menus to the remote and let the TV do what it does best: Video.
- thirdoptical, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1That would indeed be excellent.
The on-screen controls would be fine when video isn't playing, but using the iPhone's keyboard to type, and using the iPhone's screen to queue up/etc when a video is playing would be fantastic.
- thirdoptical, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1That would indeed be excellent.
- protodon, on 05/19/2008, -3/+9Most people may disagree but I'm all for a flat touchpad keyboard with non-moving keys . Maybe like the iphone where keys are dynamic and can grow and shrink to suit what you're writing. It may also keep me from going completely mad one day and killing all olympic typists in earshot. Although I don't know if fast fingers drumming on a hard plastic board would be any better.
- Wetzilla, on 05/19/2008, -0/+4I've tried typing on something similar, one of those projected keyboards that then record where your fingers hit, and it's awful. After a few minutes your fingers start to hurt, because, at least for me, without the resistance of the keys I ended up hitting the table pretty hard. Also, while the iPhone keyboard is alright after some practice with your thumbs, it is a whole different case with your whole hands, and it's practically impossible to type without looking down at the table to make sure your fingers are lining up with the keyboard, and you didn't move slightly off.
- ColorBlind, on 05/19/2008, -10/+2NO **** WAY! YOU'VE GOT TO **** BE KIDDING ME! GET THE **** OUT OF TOWN!
yawn- teh_techie, on 05/19/2008, -0/+4Comment buried for covering up swearwords.
- ColorBlind, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1It was a reference to the Onion news article this morning.
- Ksg89, on 05/19/2008, -4/+29lul wut? i can press multiple keys on my keyboard at a time!
- SirPasta117, on 05/19/2008, -3/+4lol my thoughts exactly
- coresnake, on 05/19/2008, -3/+2Prove it then, trying pressing a few keys together for me, lessee, Alt,, and hmm F4 maybe!
- frazw, on 05/19/2008, -5/+38Aren't all keyboards multi touch?
/bad joke- Intamin, on 05/19/2008, -0/+4It's funny because it's true. Give yourself more credit! :)
- neferiousrich, on 05/19/2008, -6/+2i love my appleTV, and having a flat, multi touch input device would (imo) complete the living room media experience. if they decide to add iPhone/touch apps too, even better...
- DiggOrNotToDigg, on 05/19/2008, -10/+3When will Apple stop innovating
- PabloMac, on 05/19/2008, -4/+3They never have and never will. Stop, that is.
- Overture1928, on 05/19/2008, -1/+5I hope this will be a universal keyboard rather than a Apple TV-only product - I don't think the Apple TV even has Bluetooth to support this kind of device! Maybe they could put a Bluetooth receiver in some sort of a USB stick, but that might not go well with some people. But, I'd still love to have something like this for my iMac.
- LeeSoong, on 05/19/2008, -2/+6If Apple would just add Safari internet, e-mail,
.Mac, and camera / printer support - they sure would sell a lot more AppleTVs.
The ''Information Appliance'' - most of the functionality of a computer, without the complexity.
Internet, e-mail, music, movies, TV shows, photos, and printing = 80% of home computer use.
You don't need a 4 CPU, Quad Core 16 core machine to do the basics.
The AppleTV could become the 'kids pc' or second pc to handle quick tasks and entertainment in the living room. A cheap little box that does a whole lot, just plug in the TV and go.
The 1 TB TimeMachine product from Apple could act as the main storage server for peoples movies and TV shows, music and music videos.
Upgrade the AppleTV design for a slightly faster CPU, a bit more RAM, and much stronger GPU and you have a video game machine too.
When Mr. Jobs says AppleTV is a ''Hobby'' - look out, because Apple is going to make AppleTV as successful as the iPod and iPhone . . .- SirPasta117, on 05/19/2008, -1/+7Then it becomes a Mac Mini. Which is already on the market so why would they make a machine to out sell another machine? Thats why Apple doesnt want OEMs out on the market. All about control
- LeeSoong, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2No,
A mac-mini is the next step up - it comes with
A Core 2 Duo, 1 or 2 GB of RAM, and the DVD superdrive,
and Apple could even up that to a BlueRay Superdrive.
Apple is good at pricing things right to prevent 'cannibalization' of one product line from another.
If you want to do Word, Photoshop, etc - ''full power computer applications'' - you step up to the Mac Mini.
If you just need a box that will connect your TV to the internet and act as a Point of Sale device for iTunes, and allow you to surf the web, send emails, and print photos - AppleTV is more than enough.
Not to mention AppleTV revision 3.0 with bluetooth would make a nice little game box - compatible with all the new software being developed for the iPhone too.
See the WWDC for more details:
http://developer.apple.com/ - LeeSoong, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2One More Thing . . .
Add DVR into the AppleTV 3.0, simply saving your recordings into iTunes - and the AppleTV becomes a nice little TiVo like product.
Steve Jobs said Apple developed the iPhone based off
of all the things people hate about their smart cell phones.
It shows - the iPhone is a pleasure to use.
Now, think of all the things people hate about their computer,
and about their VCR.
Consumers just want a box that plugs into the internet without problems - web pages and email and their happy.
Consumers want to record TV shows without problems,
just look at a listing, click it, and later - you can watch it.
No clock to set, no times to enter, no media to load / unload /rewind or buy. One click TV recording.
The closest people get to that is TiVo and
http://www.elgato.com
eyeTV products.
If Apple can use it's newly purchased Chip maker company
to make a super powerful, super cheap, low power AppleTV,
that would make good business sense, and huge profits for
iTunes:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P.A._Semi- judicar, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2It's an AppleTV, not an Apple Computer, it's not an information appliance. It's meant to playback content wirelessly to a TV. I do agree it should have DVR capability though, some day maybe, but then I get this just fine with my Elgato Hybrid on my mac mini, just convert and upload to appletv
- sleepwalkers, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2Apple could tune the AppleTV to be a more versatile "home theater" appliance.
A tailored version of Safari, maybe allowing widgets, maybe e-mail and allowing one of the Time Capsules to be a central server for the Apple TV doesn't make the Apple TV a Mac Mini. There'd still be a significant advantage to the Mac Mini (namely, having a true computer), while making the Apple TV a far more attractive living room appliance to compliment a TiVo or other DVR.
- LeeSoong, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2No,
- nebkiwi, on 05/19/2008, -0/+3you can run safari, firefox and skype on the apple tv, one of the many apple tv hacks there are for it , the apple tv basically just runs tiger. if you look on youtube theres a few videos of it running some cool apps..
- heystoopid, on 05/19/2008, -4/+1You have got to be kidding Safari , as a web browser has so many security holes you can drive a Mack truck through it and still not touch the edges , nice to see you have crap security with your computer that anyone can pwn it in less then two minutes flat !
- SirPasta117, on 05/19/2008, -1/+7Then it becomes a Mac Mini. Which is already on the market so why would they make a machine to out sell another machine? Thats why Apple doesnt want OEMs out on the market. All about control
- bpeacock22, on 05/19/2008, -1/+15Um, Apple TV doesn't have bluetooth, so this rumor is impossible.
- jalo, on 05/19/2008, -1/+2not impossible.. it does have a USB port.
- digitalpencil, on 05/19/2008, -1/+1err.. yes it does, it's just not being used for anything right now
- SirPasta117, on 05/19/2008, -0/+8Why do people keep making concepts with the iPod wheel involved? Apple is moving away from that.
- PabloMac, on 05/19/2008, -1/+1IS moving?
- punkcat, on 05/19/2008, -1/+2IS
- PabloMac, on 05/19/2008, -1/+1IS moving?
- Thomaschaaf, on 05/19/2008, -2/+4With a screen under the pad I could find this to be interessting! - as a mac hater... darn multitouch patent.. I would love to see what other companies would make out of the technology!
- MacParrot, on 05/19/2008, -1/+5Why not just stop hating Apple? You don't HAVE to love and worship (or hate and despise) them. It's just a company that puts out products, some of which you don't want to use.
- eekfuh, on 05/19/2008, -0/+5Multi-touch and E-Ink... I presume
- ihavocd, on 05/19/2008, -5/+0Why on the mock up dose the touch pad make a extra set of arrow keys? FAKE
- jeriqo, on 05/19/2008, -0/+4Wait, a fake mock up? Impossible. FAKE
- TopSlacker, on 05/19/2008, -1/+10Buried for blogspam.
Original article http://macenstein.com/default/archives/1364 - wukillabee, on 05/19/2008, -13/+7apple tv flopped harder than windows me
- cadeucsb, on 05/19/2008, -1/+1Just give me a bluetooth usb dongle (w/driver), build a control app for the iphone and roll it out via the SDK platform.
- zbeast, on 05/19/2008, -5/+7The apple tv itself is a very useless device..
if it were capable of playing videos that are stored on other devices
computing devices in your home, able to play all the standard and extended
media types like xvid, divx, wma, wmv, mov, avi… you get the idea, you know
the same features as xbmc http://xbmc.org/ and then had a keyboard like that… it would be cool and useful.
The apple tv needs to be upgrade to the class of being a media pc.. not just a way to watch u-tube.
I have a apple tv… its’ sits in a box doing nothing.- GREEDOnvrFIRED, on 05/19/2008, -1/+4Download visual hub. I watch everything on apple TV. Movies I take with my camera. Movies I download on the Internet. Movies I already own. Just drag them into visual hub and set it for "Apple TV." It couldn't be easier. You drag a file in and it is converted and shows up on your Apple TV. Literally ONE step. And yes it works on xvid, divx, wma, wmv, mov, avi... you get the idea.
- Spamcan, on 05/19/2008, -1/+1Hey, it's only useless if you already have another device that has the same functionality like an XBOX with XBMC, 360, PS3, computer or any number of portable devices with TV output. Just ignore the fact that most of those things also support more video formats then just mp4 or that the only advantage the ATV has is that it's tied to iTMS. For people that live in the Applesphere and buy all their content legally from iTMS it's a good buy, which is why they've only sold about 3 of them so far.
- sleepwalkers, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2It's not the most elegant solution, but anymore you can simply plug a USB thumbdrive into an AppleTV with the right files on it and enable XviD and Divx support, as well as run emulators, order pizza from it, there's a version of Safari that'll run on it (the AppleTV, not from the thumbdrive) and you can even enable the AppleTV to recognize and play from external USB drives plugged into it.. What I listed covers at least a few of your gripes about it.
Head over to awkwardtv.org and they have a pretty good wiki on how to enable that sorta stuff. Don't let it just rot in a corner, hack the hell out of it and make it useful!
- jjustin01, on 05/19/2008, -1/+2I'm not sold until Apple can make entire 50" plasma screen a multi-touch screen :)
- MiDri, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1That reminds me of when I worked in the archiving part of my colleges library, we had a 30" Wacom tablet, that thing kicked so much ass it's not even funny.
- samk, on 05/19/2008, -3/+4I think they should make a keyboard with just one key.
- karlhite, on 05/19/2008, -1/+3Same philosophy as the mouse; with two buttons it's possible to get confused. My keyboard trips me out constantly.
- darkciti2, on 05/19/2008, -0/+3The any key.
- blessing, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2You can already use the iPhone/touch as a remote with the competing Squeezebox for those curious. I do. See http://www.penguinlovesmusic.com
- dinkola, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1Yeah, its coming. Its called the iPhone/iPod touch. Just wait till June when they start to release new applications for them.
- MrEdwardo, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2Fixed the title for you ;)
"Apple to release special multi touch keyboard for Apple TV?" - sweetfeld28, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1i think that this might be a pipe dream. i don't see this happening for the aTV, any more than it would happen for their desktops.
- 3amboo, on 05/19/2008, -1/+2what if you are left handed?
- jeriqo, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2Then you use your right hand.
- ljsmithx, on 05/19/2008, -0/+3WITCH!
- brownrecluse888, on 05/19/2008, -4/+6I personally love my appletv so much that I cancelled my cable tv altogether. I spent a few months using the free handbrake software and I know have my entire DVD collection available to watch at any time without loading a single dvd at the same quality as the original dvd. I can at the press of a button listen to any of my music, watch thousands of free video podcasts, etc. And now I can even rent a movie without having to drive to blockbuster or wait a netflix envelope to show up. My cable service was costing me $79 per month, and now I spent roughly $20 bucks a month by download some of my favorite tv episodes via Itunes.
And as far a high def dvd player? Now I don't even need one of those since I can now rent high def movies directly from my appletv unit without even having my computer on.
So I don't know how anyone can call this a useless device....- jalo, on 05/19/2008, -1/+2I wouldn't call it useless, but there is definitely a lack of content for the device if your wanting a specific TV series etc. I don't fault Apple for this as much as I fault the television/movie industry.
- srodrigo, on 05/19/2008, -1/+1Already pointed out. Apple TV does not have bluetooth. Next time put some more little effort (a simple search in Google will save yourself the embarrassment) on making up some “rumors”.
Funny to see the other 290+ non owners of AppleTV digging this nonsense.- LeeSoong, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2It does have 1 USB 2.0 port,
so no problem plugging in a little bluetooth nub:
http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&u=http ...
- LeeSoong, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2It does have 1 USB 2.0 port,
- cthrall, on 05/19/2008, -2/+1That looks kinda cool, it could change with the app focus.
But my hands hurt just looking at it. Why no ergo? Only kbds I can use are MSFT Natural. - skyfox2k, on 05/19/2008, -1/+2Hmmm, PC's have had this for ages.
Ctrl-Alt-Del, anyone? - rdas7, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2This would make sense for the desktop, not necessarily for Apple tv.
Either way, how awesome would that be: stop everyone whining about Mac's not having 2 mouse buttons. Macs wouldn't have mice! It'd be multi-touch trackpad goodness all the way! - judicar, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1People that create these stupid mockups just don't "get it". The whole idea behind the AppleTV, and most other Apple products, is to eliminate just this sort of gadgetry.
- thatsmyaibo, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2I used to hate the ATV. I thought it was another pointless gimmicky Apple product. Well now I have one and after DLing a ton of TV torrents and ripping DVDs I get from Netflix it is the best component in my room.
- jackmon, on 05/19/2008, -2/+0I really hope if they do create a general touchpad peripheral they don't connect it at the hip to a keyboard.
- campo, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1i'm all for apple fandom, but it seems whoever came up with this idea is missing the key quesiton: why? why would apple do this?
appleTV is Apple's bridge into living room connectivity, a place where normal people who don't view digg 50 times/day don't want to control anything with a keyboard. This keyboard idea is completely contrary to the ease of use apple has introduced with the appleTV UI. - RudeTurnip, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1Infrared gets annoying really fast when you're used to radio-controlled devices that you can tuck away.
- Gavin, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2They need one for the iMac. I would love one.

- kelty1980, on 05/19/2008, -7/+2Apple sucks, and I hope that more of there products keep coming out and get bad reviews.
Down with this over priced piece of junk.
Apple cost my dept. way too much money cause we could never get that *$#% to work right.- serif69, on 05/19/2008, -1/+3PEBKAC
- thedrue, on 05/19/2008, -1/+3What bad reviews? This is only a mockup designed by someone completely unrelated to Apple. Apple may or may not create something similar but rest assured it will be more useable and better thought out than this device is. Come to think of it I cannot think of many negative reviews of Apple products as a whole, although some people do not like some aspects of their design and software. Perhaps its your department that is not working right...
- heystoopid, on 05/19/2008, -1/+1As always since their market share is only one in twenty five but with a retail value that represents not less then one sixth of all computer retail sales , you've hit the nail on the head !
- delvach, on 05/19/2008, -1/+2Nice, but I just got a Logitech NiVovo Mini, a little palm-sized Bluetooth keyboard/trackpad. It's the final piece of the HTPC puzzle I've been looking for.
- lepton, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1You really think Apple would go from the current teeny tiny remote to that giant heavy button-laden thing? Here's a thought, maybe Apple will use an iPod Touch as a touch remote. Does Bluetooth, WiFi, talks to your network and Macs and the Internet, shows a keyboard with configurable buttons, etc. Pricey, but the touch has many uses and the price will also drop over time.
- mjsteinbaugh, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1My guess is that Apple has already released a remote for the Apple TV. It's called the iPhone. With the 2.0 update and applications based on the SDK, this is totally a possibility using WiFi.
- LeeSoong, on 05/19/2008, -1/+3AppleTV runs HOT, they get very warm,
mainly because they are always on and have no off switch
(oops - forgot that little detail, not a very 'green' design.)
New Chips from PA Semi could make a faster, better, cheaper verison
of the AppleTV.- wherley, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1You can turn the unit "off" in a manner of speaking by holding down the Play button on the remote for a few seconds. In that stand-by mode of operation it still uses around 11 watts.
- emmaviolet, on 05/19/2008, -2/+2I always wonder how long it will take from release time to reach auction sites like this:
