- alexf, on 10/11/2007, -2/+31I'm a developer-- I swear.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+17Really well here you go sir!
http://thepiratebay.org/tor/3719546/Mac_OS_X_10.5_Leopard_9A466_WWDC__07 - mattmcm, on 10/11/2007, -1/+16Fix your caps lock key.
- NnyDarko, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10You can be with torrents.
- totorototoro, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11Why didn't Apple make it available to all member developers right after the conference ended? wtf?
- tofagerl, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Because they want to entice people to come to their rather expensive conferences.
- TomFrost, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5The first rule of usenet is don't talk about usenet.
The second rule of usenet is don't talk about usenet. - spiffyfitz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Does this include student ADC members?
Not that bittorrent is stopping anyone... :) - GotMex, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Not to mention you can get Developer Support with Apple technicians with the memberships. It's not about getting Leopard early... it's about getting our apps to work with Leopard before launch.
- bsummersett, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I went to WWDC on a student scholarship; I'm typing this now in Leopard. IMO, it's not really worth it to get the beta yet, because a lot of apps have stability issues (I'm sure because no one got ahold of this seed until just recently). Parallels, Max, and a handful of other apps I use don't work at all.
- Me1000, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6why bother?
it is already up on a few torrent trackers, with lots of seeds! - MinorLemming, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3This will only be available to ADC select and premier members.
A lot of devs have been pissed off because Apple communicated availability of this badly. They said it would only be available to developers AT the conference.
Our ADC and Premier memberships cost a bit of money and are supposed to include all developer seeds. To punish us for not having several thousand pounds (and being prepared to lose over $2500 in contract fees as well) just to attend the con is wrong.
We're ok with not getting the WWDC07 movies off of iTunes, because that is part of the conference. But not getting the seed was leading to people canceling their developer subscriptions. - drcreek, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Yeah......but torrents are easier.
- unmarked, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3In general, pre-release seeds for for Select and Premier members only.
- GotMex, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Guess you guys haven't heard of an NDA.
- colincornaby, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6Because some of us developers would like to stay legal, not to mention we don't want to make Apple angry. We would like to keep our NDA agreements, thank you very much.
- diggnationdevon, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2It's leaked on bittorrent now anyway. http://btjunkie.org/torrent/Mac-OS-X-10-5-Leopard-9A466-WWDC-07-3719546-TPB/4324ac54d0a383d9e802a09bec863435ec4316d9e11d
- jketterman, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2If you are an ADC member and you received the e-mail that this article is talking about, then you will receive the seed, otherwise most likely not.
- samsoffes, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2you can become a developer for free http://connect.apple.com
i bet you have to pay the $500 to get the beta though. that's how its been in the past. - johnpaul191, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2if you are a developer working for a big company, the conference cost is insignificant. this was the highest attended conference by developers yet and i think they said the ratio of developer to apple engineer was 3:1. that's a lot of time with people that know their *****.
i don't know how that works out for the smaller shareware type people, but for the commercial developers it seems well worth the cost.
i don't know how developers got the preview versions of the OS in the past if they missed the conference. they obviously get it somehow before it's out for public consumption. - johnpaul191, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2the point is not just getting the pre-release, it's the support network associated with it. remember these preview versions of the OS generally expire or can not be updated through the normal software update system. they are effectively dead in the water (as far as upgrades go) once the OS reaches golden master. you have to do a full install of the release version of the OS. basically you are not getting a 4 month jump on the rest of the Apple world.
- ckoerner, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Yes you are correct. Premiere and Select ADC members have access to the seeds. Not student or free accounts.
- ramcosca, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Being a developer is very different from being a pirate. It takes a lot of effort to become a developer, but at the end you notice it's all so worth it.
- t0ny, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2You dont have to be a developer. Just pay apple to just the developer connection.
- unmarked, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2If you were planning to create a great program designed specifically for Leopard, you would have already started a while back and probably sent someone from your company to WWDC to get the beta and new information available. The enticement to come to WWDC was to get the beta of Leopard early. I think that if they release it within a couple weeks of WWDC, it'll be a slap in the face of folks that paid for WWDC to specifically get a leg up with the beta as there wasn't a whole of new stuff between WWDC06 and WWDC07, save for the Leopard beta.
- ramcosca, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1And paying the ~$3,000 of the price of the WWDC admission isn't easy...
- totorototoro, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Isn't enticing more developers to create great programs for Leopard's launch a bit more important?
- Balanced, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Probably not. Basically, if you need it for a major project, you need to pay for the real account. The Student developer bennies are already pretty nice.
- ramcosca, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Haha. I was going to download that but I decided not to. I'm going to wait until October to get my hands all over Leopard... I can wait. I'm still learning all the nooks and crannies of Tiger. Switched 6 months ago.
- SwabTheDeck, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I got the email, but details were rather vague. I don't have a paid ADC membership, just the free one that anyone can get.
- FluffyArmada, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I just got it installed a few hours ago. I'm not seeing any stability problems, but YMMV. (I'm on a G5 iMac here).
The new visual stuff is o.k. I'm not hugely impressed though. I kinda like the new finder, but honestly, I haven't been using it long enough to really have any opinions on anything. :)
Oh, and I love the new iCal. - ilgaz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1A perfect trojan, will happen one day... If not already it is :)
- zxspectrum, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Does this include student ADC members?
anyone? - StatusQuoRules, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Well you won't find one here
- Me1000, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1*swoosh*
that is the sound of the joke going WAY over your head! - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1NOTE TO APPLE : All these ADC members probably have access to the inter-tubes.
- ramcosca, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1True that, tofageri. Exactly what I was going to say.
- SPECOPS, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0try using the new ichat and change a few of the video backgrounds.
- mglmouser, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Given the lackluster announcements of this year's conference, I was left with the only satisfaction of having gone for receiving a newer seed of Leopard.
Now, I'm asking myself why I went at all. - stalefries, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Bittorrent is one word, silly! :)
Oops, did I say it out loud? - ramcosca, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1I seriously doubt that student ADC members will get a chance, but if we do, we gotta celebrate, share these "news" to everybody!... *wink, wink*
- th3wiz4rd, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1I'm sure it will be decent when they're done, but I wouldn't expect much from these betas. I haven't tried this latest one, but I used the last 10.5 beta (we received in may) for a day before switching back to 10.4. It was disappointingly similar to 10.4, but had compatibility issues and crashed frequently. Hopefully this dev beta dvd won't end up where the other ones did (the trash).
- ErBiC, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1*cough*bit*cough*torrent*cough*
The dev seeds always get leaked to the trackers anyway, so we'd be seeing it soon if it hadn't already been leaked. - coolfactor, on 10/11/2007, -2/+0Taking something that isn't meant for you is just wrong.
- smurf22, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1Damn now I gotta wait like 5 months....
- jbham184, on 10/11/2007, -5/+2wish i was a developer...
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -6/+1Great. I always wanted to download a giant fag fest.
- zerostar1979, on 10/11/2007, -6/+1up on ABM on usenet as well.
- devinjohnson2, on 10/11/2007, -25/+9FIX THE COMMENT SYSTEM!
