- thetanman, on 10/09/2008, -17/+280Yeah, they better get cheaper. My friend just bought a Dell 15.4" laptop with Core 2 Duo 2GHz, 3gigs of RAM, 250GB SATA that runs really well for $600. I love Leopard as much as anyone, but with the economy like it is when you can buy a damn fast, decent looking comp for at or near half the price, maybe even shoehorn OSX onto it, they need to get a little more competitive.

- chookalana, on 10/09/2008, -14/+82CHEAPER!, CHEAPER!, CHEAPER!, CHEAPER!, CHEAPER!, CHEAPER!, CHEAPER!, CHEAPER!, CHEAPER! I want to see $699.....
- kelchm, on 10/09/2008, -2/+59I'm a Mac user and he is right. Apple needs to adjust its prices and get into the sub 1000.00 notebook market.
- AutoTom, on 10/09/2008, -2/+40so nobody buys a mac 5 minute before new ones come out
- Damienk, on 10/09/2008, -2/+35Cheaper Apple Notebook?
Cmon, now those will sell - noonions, on 10/09/2008, -3/+35what does the way they update their site have to do with their OS's superiority? are you stupid?
- Relikh, on 10/09/2008, -3/+32And I'd like a rocket powered go-kart, but come on...
- jun2san, on 10/09/2008, -1/+30OMG! Is your fist ok?
- visconti, on 10/09/2008, -14/+42Oh, you guys hadn't heard? I was under the impression that everybody had heard. Don't you know, about the bird, everybody knows the bird is the word!
BIRD BIRD BIRD, BIRD IS THE WORD! a-wella BIRD BIRD BIRD, BIRD IS THE WORD! - snverhallen, on 10/09/2008, -13/+40Let the hype begin! But actually, I think these are going to be some pretty interesting new products. Especially all these rumors about the "Brick" and the new manufacturing techniques.
- abraxaswizard, on 10/09/2008, -4/+26I'm ***** buying one, been waiting since september for these.
- TheIguana, on 10/09/2008, -3/+23I am fine with cheaper macs, but if they start throwing quality out the window to get them cheaper I want nothing to do with them.
- ColorBlind, on 10/09/2008, -3/+23odd, I can order a Dell Studio with great specs(2.0Ghz, 2G RAM, 160G harddrive, hi-rez screen, upgraded graphics card, HDMI out, dual headphone jacks, express card slot, and the lot) for 899 shipped to my house....or a Macbook with fair specs(2.1GHz, 1G RAM, 120G harddrive, no hi-rez screen, built-in graphics chip, and nominal hardware/software) for 1099.
I fail to see why i should think apple can compete with their current inventory...
If i stepped down to the consumer Inspiron series it's even cheaper. - koolto, on 10/09/2008, -3/+23With flames on it?
- billbugger, on 10/09/2008, -3/+23Hey donkey.... Say hi to your mother for me.
- Urkel, on 10/09/2008, -4/+22Despite the failing economy, I'm buying 2 since we've been saving since 2007. After months (years?) of rumors then it's really nice to see Apple is FINALLY doing something for its original fanbase instead of the iPhone/iPod crowd.
- fungifred, on 10/09/2008, -4/+21NOOOO
I JUST BOUGHT A MACBOOK 2 YEARS AGO - CaptRage, on 10/09/2008, -8/+24I hope it is a cheaper model that is still pretty powerful...maybe like a $799 MacBook???
- inactive, on 10/09/2008, -2/+18HOLY *****!!
Apple computers all have two buttons already!!! Jesus! on macbooks and MBPs its two fingered click onthe trackpad and on imacs its option click. How long is it gonna take for you people to figure this ***** out!
ya digg me down cuz its a rant but seriously people. small concept. - ciram, on 10/09/2008, -0/+15Uuuh... what? Did I miss something here?
- KillPenguin, on 10/09/2008, -2/+17Wow, you seem like a whore.
- moorehouse, on 10/09/2008, -5/+19I knew it! I hope they refresh the Mac Mini too.
- abajaj2280, on 10/09/2008, -2/+16OMG! Is the donkey ok?
- michaelphw, on 10/09/2008, -30/+43As long as it's cheaper, then I'll think about it.
- dajuggernaut, on 10/09/2008, -2/+15oh heaven forbid they innovate instead of waiting for your ass
- Kerrigore, on 10/09/2008, -3/+16The people who are most affected by the economic downturn are those who were already unlikely to purchase a mac.
A lot of people now recognize that a mac would be superior to a PC laptop, but can't (or think they can't, or aren't willing to pay) the cost difference between a $500 PC laptop and a $1100 Mac notebook (nevermind what you get in each and that it's not equal, just saying people care about the sticker price more when all they need is basic functions so they figure all they need is a cheap-ass laptop).
However, if the concurrent rumour about MacBooks starting at $800 is true, that will help expand their marketshare dramatically. Most customers can be talked up from a $500 notebook to an $800 notebook assuming there's some value-added features to justify that. $500 to $1100... not so much. - chewties, on 10/09/2008, -1/+14See you next tuesday
- thetanman, on 10/09/2008, -2/+14It was this Inspiron, from Satan himself (Best Buy) for $599. This won't be the last time you come across a deal like this.
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8989 ...
I'm not saying it beats the Mac in some floating integer foot race, I'm saying it did everything a light power user could throw at it, and did it well. I've got a Macbook Pro but I actually wasn't completely turned off by the form factor either, certainly for the money. I'm just saying I was rather taken aback by how competitive it's gotten, mainly with help from Core 2 Duo, cheap RAM, and cheap storage. - sockpuppets, on 10/09/2008, -1/+13I like your beard.
- mardraum, on 10/09/2008, -2/+13OMG! Are your pants ok?
- soopafly, on 10/09/2008, -2/+12That was probably the stupidest thing I've read all day.
- latin69, on 10/09/2008, -5/+15You will appreciate it more this way....trust me
- cg0def, on 10/09/2008, -2/+12Pentium Dual Core is NOT Core2 Duo and 1.7 ghz has nothing on the 2.4ghz Core2 Duo's that come on pretty much all MacBooks. Oh and that stupid article about inspiron hackintosh fails to mention that installing updates on those machines is not really a child's play and you never get the at the same time as apple users do. Not to mention the hell that it might be installing and configuring drivers for a hackintosh. I'd much rather spend more money now and know that the computer will work than spend time later when I might actually need to use the computer for something important.
- Elranzer, on 10/09/2008, -4/+14If Apple wanted to sell something for it's ORIGINAL original fanbase, they'd sell a consumer-class, headless, mini-tower with upgradable parts. The MacPro doesn't count.
- inactive, on 10/09/2008, -1/+11I'm getting all sweaty
- christianw, on 10/09/2008, -0/+10ill glady pay you tuesday, for a hamburger today
- wassim2k, on 10/09/2008, -8/+17Mini notebook (9-inch screen) would be neat
- kevin52094, on 10/09/2008, -2/+11Do you realize why the iPhone 3G can be priced at $199?
- latin69, on 10/09/2008, -10/+19What took you so long?
- SitPoMk, on 10/09/2008, -1/+10My power levels are rising
- enterneo, on 10/09/2008, -6/+15can I get $800 price point apple notebook this time, or do I still have to keep my hackintosh running?
- jazzguitar18, on 10/10/2008, -0/+9I don't know why people digged this person down.... I'm a mac guy 100% but jeezus he's gotta point. Apple products are WAAAAYYY too expensive and as an ordinary middle class citizen it is very difficult to buy the products when they first come out.
- Kerrigore, on 10/09/2008, -2/+10Then you only have yourself to blame, roughly this timeframe for the notebook releases has been rumoured for quite a long time.
