- Edu115, on 06/08/2008, -27/+167If you don't consider $199 "less than 200", Math didn't work too well on you.
- Mohdoo, on 06/08/2008, -24/+164If you consider $199 "less than 200", marketing works WAY too well on you.
- reviewhunter, on 06/08/2008, -5/+120less than 200 bucks? SOLD!
- gllopc, on 06/08/2008, -0/+86I don't care who outside of Apple says it - I'm not believing anything until it I hear it from the keynote tomorrow.
- kenkyomausu, on 06/08/2008, -0/+73How much of this is fact and how much of it is wishful thinking?
- mark076h, on 06/08/2008, -1/+59i think it would be hilarious or they have a new thinner iphone but is has no 3G or GPS and comes in different colors
- MalharP16, on 06/08/2008, -25/+83As always, it sucks to be an early Apple adopter
- punkcat, on 06/08/2008, -5/+58yeah tech should stand still.
- psYcon, on 06/08/2008, -15/+65Sorry but sales tax pushes it above $200 easily so yes mohdoo is correct :)
- SAOSiN, on 06/08/2008, -0/+46How many people would be upset if there are no new iphones tomorrow?
- Chairboy, on 06/08/2008, -2/+41I'm in Oregon with no sales tax, so no, mohdoo made an overgeneralization.
- Schmich, on 06/08/2008, -7/+33So if the time is 5:59 and someone asks you what time it is, do you say 5:59 and not 6?
"Mum I want an iPhone!!"
"Doesn't it cost two hundred dollars?"
"Nono, only a hundred and something" - aenima987, on 06/08/2008, -2/+24Hope this is the case in the UK.
- StuartGibson, on 06/14/2009, -1/+23It's all wishful thinking until Steve says so.
- JonestownTea, on 06/08/2008, -0/+21psYcon, you should meet people from Alaska, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire, and Oregon.
- SixOrSoPapers, on 06/08/2008, -1/+22Agreed. Anytime someone says "less than x" it seems reasonable to treat it as a least upper bound. Who hears "less than $200" and thinks "oh, it must be $79?"
- davehanc, on 06/08/2008, -1/+15I'm sure it will also be subsidised in the UK, the question is will they do the old trick of 'converting' the price then sticking on an extra £100 & hoping no-one notices
$200 in the US - £200 in the UK.
Wouldn't surprise me - FTLJohnson, on 06/08/2008, -0/+13I didn't mind at all, in fact, I'll probably sell my current phone on Ebay, and get the new model while adding a couple years to my contract... big deal. As always, cellular contracts are really easy to get out of when they start changing things around... Not that I'd want to change... everything so far has been ducky. ALL cell phone companies suck pretty equally, sort of like cable companies. I have no incentive to change... The phone is the important part, and visual voice mail is godly... Especially when you add all the other features.
- StuartGibson, on 06/14/2009, -1/+12Unless you're planning to short it immediately, not a great idea. Apple stock historically falls right after the keynote.
- rowlodge, on 06/08/2008, -5/+16ive never seen anybody actually talk on this thing before.
- inactive, on 06/08/2008, -0/+10you should wait for the next next one.
- jhails, on 06/08/2008, -1/+11Bottom line, will it get me laid?
- Me1000, on 06/08/2008, -5/+14By "early Apple adopter" you mean "early tech adopter"...
- inactive, on 06/08/2008, -2/+10You dont know what a recession is do ya ace?
- plbland, on 06/08/2008, -3/+11I hate you.
- FunkyWitDaSysTm, on 06/08/2008, -0/+8good call considering just about every prediction regarding the current iphone was not only COMPLETELY wrong, but only one of the predicted features (multi-touch) was actually in the final product. heck, most of the features that were revealed during the keynote were completely unexpected. remember all those mockups and "spy shots" that had the touchscreen scrollwheel, or the shots of it being a slider/clamshell phone? the 'predictions' that it would whiten your teeth and cure cystic acne?
sure, we have much more info now than last time, but it's still all academic until the keynote. never underestimate apple's ability to surprise and delight. - thefinger, on 06/08/2008, -3/+11My eyes are just going. :( I thought it said "Apple to allow suicides on iPhone."
- grifta67, on 06/08/2008, -1/+9I was prepared to pay $400 for the 3G iPhone but if it clocks in at $200 I'll be one happy camper!

that's with out a monitor - ATLien74, on 06/08/2008, -0/+7If you have to ask...
...No. - tennismac, on 06/08/2008, -1/+8I think many put too much weight on the price of the phone. The bulk of the cost to the consumer is really AT&T's phone plans. I rather pay $599 for the iphone and get a cheaper plan because over a 2 year contract period, that's the part that really adds up.
I chose to go with sprint and got a palm centro because the plan was only 30 dollars (included unlimited texting and data aka SERO plan). After taxes you're looking at $35/month whereas AT&T is 68 on a 59.99 plan. So over 2-year contract, you pay $840 vs $1632. That's about $800 dollar difference right there. - 4LeggedtriPod, on 06/08/2008, -0/+7So anyone who bought the iPhone, in the entire year before the 2.0 version, is an "early adopter"?
- roosterjm2k2, on 06/08/2008, -1/+7You are correct.
But I eat thai and sushi and indian for lunch most days...so I really cant complain about $30 more a month...maybe one day when i pretend to be financially responsible...but that day is not today.. - fatmannaltlcoat, on 06/08/2008, -6/+12Frankly I would like to be able to use any hardware I want and not have to pay 3k for it.
- StuartGibson, on 06/14/2009, -1/+7And that attitude is why Apple is kicking everyones ass in the MP3 market and, I suspect, will soon be doing in the phone market. More features != better. The iPhone has better design, interface and, by all accounts, reliability than the N95, despite having less features. Add to that the desirability (read trendiness) of Apple devices and the status it conveys, not to mention the paradigm shifts they have made in several markets they do business in and you have the reason people are excited for the iPhone more than any Nokia.
- NinjaPig, on 06/08/2008, -2/+8in case anyone didn't notice....the data rate plans for all other pda style phones at at&t is $30, only the iphone has it for $20 (For people who don't know what i'm saying: 39.99 for voice+ 20 for data= 59.99 plan). I'll bet anything that the data rate for 3g iphones will be bumped up to $30, if this happens, it can be justified easily too.
- usingpond, on 06/08/2008, -2/+8Does this mean the neckbeards will have one less reason to say it "sucks"?
- santaliqueur, on 06/08/2008, -3/+8Because everyone knows all Macs cost $3k, right?
- cakerun, on 06/08/2008, -0/+5Oh my goodness. I agree.
- jgtg32a, on 06/08/2008, -1/+6We're talking about an apple product.
- ophello, on 06/08/2008, -9/+14I believe it.
- HappyScrappy, on 06/08/2008, -2/+7Given that Apple used to collect the $200 subsidy when you activated through iTunes (and lost 40% of them due to 40% of people unlocking phones), it's quite possible this change could hurt their iPhone profits. Although it does seem like it'll increase revenues/sales.
- StuartGibson, on 06/14/2009, -1/+5I give time to the minute, but I'm a stickler for accuracy. Annoys the wife something shocking.
- championchap, on 06/08/2008, -0/+4Well it was a brand new product.
But i get what you're saying.
It's like saying "wow, the wii is awesome.. but ima wait for the wii 2.. just incase" - breadfred, on 06/08/2008, -0/+4I sell insurance. I have found that I round the figure down to a nice round number (so not £299 but £300) people are more likely to buy the insurance. It sounds an honest deal, it is an easy number to check on your bank statement. People like honest numbers. No ***** with this ££315.67 business.
- t0x2c, on 06/09/2008, -0/+4$199 after $200 subsidiary... I'm thinking $399
- diggerphelps, on 06/08/2008, -1/+5What's the difference between a 'subsidy' and at&t paying a kickback of the monthly fees to Apple like they do now?
If the iPhone 2 price is going to be $199, it's because components are cheaper, or at&t will be paying Apple more up front and less monthly.
Either way, you will not be able to buy an iPhone 'unlocked' for the $199 price. - TheBigSquid, on 06/09/2008, -1/+5Did you just call Steve Jobs a trap?
- Mahoney07, on 06/08/2008, -0/+4Does this mean it's 200 when you get a new contract? Does that mean if I am already with AT&T I still have to pay full price?
