- DeeX, on 10/11/2007, -10/+63How about Apple pays them a bunch of money to never open their mouths ever again?
- JD52, on 10/11/2007, -14/+40Am I the only person in the world who thinks that Beyonce' can't sing for *****?
- KeyLimePie, on 10/11/2007, -2/+24Nooo Jay-Z. How could you. I thought you and Bill were BFFs!

- ike368, on 10/11/2007, -5/+21jay-z and beyonce, really?
what about thinking different? - vandy, on 10/11/2007, -6/+19Perhaps they could just bankroll it and work with them. Send them off into a another division, ala FileMaker. I just don't want to walk into an Apple store and be bombarded with Jay-Z or Beyonce music. It's just not my cup of tea, I'm really at the store to check out the new Macs.
- lesosso, on 10/11/2007, -2/+14heads or tails?, what kind of dumb ass comment is that?
- Magillicutti, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10Reasonable Doubt's a good album.
- auxplage, on 10/11/2007, -7/+17Wow, this could either turn out to be a great decision on Apple's part or perhaps one of the dumbest ever made.
- eqisow, on 10/11/2007, -3/+13All I know is that if I were Apple Records I'd be pissed off right now...
- bradwilki, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Does anyone remember when Apple made computers?
- surasshu, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Yeah, exactly.
- gib786, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8jay-z hasnt shown much lasting power? over 9 albums on his own plus various collaboration albums, music label, clothing line, part owner of the nets, club owner. the guy is worth over $340 mill and is currently the ceo of def jam and rocafella. if there is anyone whos got the brains to start a new label i can safely say its jay z
- kethraal, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7"Where my diggers at?"
Excuse me, but I believe that's "diggas" to you, sir. - trghpy, on 10/11/2007, -3/+10If this is true that'll mean that the whole deal with Apple inc. vs Apple Corp battle is over.
Maybe they're going to partner up permanently. Would make sense...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_Corps_v._Apple_Computer#2007 - crazybrit, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8The plural of BFF is BFF.
- Cymsdale, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Wow.. you totally commented on the wrong article. But... you took a stab at Truthers, so I dugg you up anyway.
- bglodde, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8It would be great if they created a label that focused on actual music.
- swordphish, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6He left Roc-A-Fella, the label he co-founded, so I don't see why not.
- domomike, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7This would never happen.
Has anyone here even seen any of the music videos or listened to any of the music that comes from Def Jam?
I'm an avid fan of REAL hip-hop and rap, and let me tell you... Def Jam isn't rap, it's pure commercialized, sexist, degrading crap.
Heaven is to Hell as Apple is to Def Jam - They're complete opposites. - mbelleghem, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7sosumi? is that you?
- Ksg89, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6They are top of the charts and quite popular
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -5/+10this will absolutely not happen
- Araxen, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5I have 99 problems but a music label ain't one.
- dhughes, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4 Am I the only one who doesn't give a damn what label a singer is with?
- imcquill, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4AAC is not Apple's proprietary framework, and almost certainly they would sell them DRM-free, as they are pushing for that.
- nerogtr, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4i'm not really into jay-z or beyonce, but come on- elitist much digg?
- domomike, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4By the way, that has to be the only comment on Digg that includes "Heaven," "Hell," a crappy analogy, Apple, Def Jam, AND mention of commercialization.
- kelly, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4AAC is a great codec...
and I would imagine that Apple would make songs from their label available without DRM as they've recently started to do. - thomas, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3It's easier to start a record label with people that are already known and Jay-Z has experience running one.
- tzonic, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Indeed. Those Truthers must have an army of idiots working for them to digg them up.
- imcquill, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I believe you are incorrect. http://playlistmag.com/news/2007/02/05/applecorps/index.php
- diggumjonez, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I think the draw for Apple is that Jay-Z, regardless of what you think of his music, is a hell of a businessman and took the not unsuccessful Def Jam label to new highs. He's got a good eye for finding up and coming acts, and for marketing them well. He's well respected by the rest of the music industry, and has the power to draw a lot of successful artists wherever he goes. A Beyonce album and huge roll out may be good in the short term, but the long-term would definitely be to create new acts.
This may end up being one of the first successful "major" labels that resolves a lot of the beef with the music industry contracts that get us all hot and bothered. If they can provide a great product, DRM Free, that provides fair compensation for the artists, Apple could see huge profits since they'd own the distribution channel, marketing, and production. Dang, I may have to get in on AAPL again. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5Media Take OUT?
Yea a very reliable source. They are the National Enquirer of the internet. - awhiteflame, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Where have you been?
- meatmcguffin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Man, that would be a great name for the label - Sosumi Records.
- meatmcguffin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Digg's comment system has all sorts of problems like comments randomly appearing at the bottom of the page and disappearing line breaks. The double post thing happens if you accidentally double click on the submit comment (in fact i'm gong to try it on this comment)
EDIT : Huh, it worked but then if you click on edit and then double click submit, the comment disappears completely. Man, Digg's comment system is messed up. - meatmcguffin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Digg's comment system has all sorts of problems like comments randomly appearing at the bottom of the page and disappearing line breaks. See! Told you :P - BlueStarr, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4hahahaha....
- notoneofus, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Why?
Wikipedia: "On February 5, 2007, Apple Inc. and Apple Corps announced a settlement of their trademark dispute under which Apple Inc. will own all of the trademarks related to 'Apple' and will license certain of those trademarks back to Apple Corps for their continued use. The settlement ends the ongoing trademark lawsuit between the companies, with each party bearing its own legal costs, and Apple Inc. will continue using its name and logos on iTunes. The settlement includes terms that are confidential." - cam18, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Yes because no other single line from any other song from any other genre of music is stupid...
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3 Mediatakeout.com is not well known in these parts, but it is the internet's equivalent of "my best friend's half-sister said that her older brother's third baby momma was told by her uncle that it was true because he knows a guy that knows another guy who only works three miles away from the Def Jam headquarters." It is the ghetto, broke version of entertainment "news". And btw, Jay-Z debuted in 96 and has since has amassed a fortune of 547 million, sounds like lasting power to me.
- bitspace, on 10/11/2007, -3/+5The best thing to happen to hip-hop in the 21st century would be for it to disappear like it never happened.
- MrFisty, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Are you kidding? This will be the best idea ever. Just imagine it. Pages and pages of Beyonce/Jay-Z/Apple stories on the front page. Beyonce tracks on every iPod ad. The gold sparkling iPod "Jay-Z" edition. With his signature on the back. Pre-loaded with one of his albums and videos. Then they can appear at conferences and on dock icons...
Someone pinch me, because I think I died and went to heaven. - leo78, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Alright now....If you don't like Jay-Z that's one thing, but half the people here are saying things like he's crap or in the downside of his career. You can't be more wrong, first of all he the best known rapper there is right now (even if you don't like hip hop I bet you still know who he is). You think Apple is going to start a label with indie artists, not likely, they want to make money and indie stuff doesn't sell no matter how good it is. Also don't forget Jay-z wouldn't be going just to be an artist he would most likely be the president of their label just like he is at Def Jam. That would mean better clout getting other artists to sign and finding new artists(don't forget he found Rhianna).
The only problem I see with the deal is if Apple tries to under cut the rest of the music industry they will all pull out of ITunes and Apple will be stuck only selling their own music.
Remember Universal owns Def Jam and they aren't resigning a contract with Apple as of yet. - skull24, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2MediaTakeOut is full of untrue storys.
- dcconz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Def Jam was founded by Russell Simmons and Rick Rubin. As swordphish said he co-founded Roc-A-Fella with Dame Dash.
- colincornaby, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2They worked out a new deal with Apple Records this year, so the old terms could have been changed...
- meatmcguffin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Since Jobs has returned anyway (ignoring killing the newton :/ )
