- cbiz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7After selling 50 million iPods along with a 1 billion songs and with a 92% market share it is good to know Apple sells sub par mp3 players.
- joel8x, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Too bad they are wrong. Apple is all about the Mac, and turning the Mac into an integrated device, or as Steve said what, five years ago - a Digital Hub. The iPod was conceived to sell more Macs. It is successfully selling more Macs now more than ever. Everything they do is to bring you in to the Mac, not get away from it.
- duke_nate, on 10/12/2007, -7/+13The big winner this holiday season is going to be NINTENDO.
- cbiz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8"In light of potential shortages of Sony's PlayStation 3 and an unproven Zune music/video player from Microsoft, the new iPods should bring current owners back into the market and attract new customers, making iPod once again one of the top gifts this holiday season."
I think these Goldman guys are correct....MS, HP, Sony, Dell will be eating dust this winter...I think the BIG winner this holiday will be Apple. With your choice of OS many will replace current PCs with Apples. Add new iPods + CE stuff + the now established Apple stores it should be a rocking holiday.... - cbiz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6It is easy and understandable for the average consumer. I'm sure the new products will also be just as easy to use. It's really is one stop shop...
- paulgibson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I think that Apple have a very good chance to deliver 'big' in the way of consumer electronics. They know whats 'hot' and whats not. And I also feel that they are one of the only ones out there that has extensive knowledge of how to bring together both hardware and software environments to deliver reliable and enjoyable products with a real 'lifestyle' feel.
I don't know about you guys...but the first thing I do when I go out in the mornings is grab my ipod and last thing at night when I'm coming in from Uni/Work is I drop my ipod into the hifi and finish listening to my songs.
Its all so seamless and easy. Iv never really had that with other consumer electronics, but that's just me! Im sure that they can do the same with other products.
btw. Im not really a 'fanboy' of sorts..Iv just found that Apple can do this very well. - paulgibson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5yeah, and for the computer side (me being a software engineer) it also has advantages too
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Dude, that post was barely understandable. Phrases such as "Lot of people apple has to compete hard against the redmond giant and gain on mac's penetration" really don't add to the credibility or your argument.
- kirashira, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I swear if he said "The big winner this holiday season is going to be SONY" he'd get dug down but not if its nintendo on digg.....
- cbiz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5flag564 - The Goldman boys are not even close to shills. If you stood in front of an Apple store and asked folks what they thought of Apple products they would say the what these analyst said....it also was the least interesting point they made...
- xoineg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I agree the main goal of apple is to make the Mac the center of everything and make it so easy to send information to Tv's and other devices. I think this idea is better instead of having a big black box next to a TV like MS media center. I rather have a small wireless devices that connects to my mac and lets me access my multimedia files in my living room. Something simple, elegant and good looking. Anyway, just 2 more hours until apple unveils what ever they have for today.
- cbiz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+324-inch iMac + the even bigger displays they sell seem to almost replace TVs if you don't need a 42"+ screen.
- d2nd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4After selling X million BigMacs along along with X billion chicken McNuggets, and with a X% market share it is good to know McDonald's sells sub par food.
- cbiz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Nintendo will do very well for sure but the the standout company for this holiday will be Apple because it's stores and e-store along with a broad range of products.
- delvach, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Of course they're gonna rake it in, assuming the whole 'TubePort' rumor is true. Imagine the potential benefits of combining tubes AND ports!
- littlebiker, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8I think that would be a great direction for apple. Apple is great at design, quality and innovation. Lot of people apple has to compete hard against the redmond giant and gain on mac's penetration- but Apple is playing smart by gaining huge market share currently least explored/dominated - here is another apple poll - http://www.tezaa.com/view/should_apple_focus_more_on_consumer_electronics
Though Apple has seen failure in the past with printers and camera's, but today apple products center of attraction and this is apple's golden period. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"Though Apple has seen failure in the past with printers and camera's, but today apple products center of attraction and this is apple's golden period."
Please explain to me wtf this sentence actually is supposed to mean. - caliform, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4A good read, it's very interesting to see a thorough and pretty much lucid speculation on what will come. I think this is may be a logical scenario.
- danlucas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"The big winner this holiday season is going to be NINTENDO."
No. The big winner this holiday will be credit card companies. - littlebiker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2sorry made a few typos and missed a couple of words and when tried click to edit - my changes were not saved - with no clue why .. so here I correct them:
"Lot of people THINK apple has to compete hard against the redmond giant..
"But today apple's products ARE the center of attraction and this is apple's golden period...
Sorry for the screw up! - kotatsu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2There is an obvious gap in the market for an under the TV box which downloads HD movies from the net, plus works as an HD-DVD and DVD player, and perhaps even PVR. Media Center PCs have gone some of the way (particularly some of Shuttle's offerings), but they're not quite there yet...
I think we're in for an interesting few years ahead. - cbiz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hey Flag564 - iTV announced today....
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Cool, thanks for the clarification :)
- zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5"The big winner this holiday season is going to be NINTENDO."
Fanboy alert. - feylanks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"I swear if he said "The big winner this holiday season is going to be SONY" he'd get dug down but not if its nintendo on digg....."
as much as it sounds like you are ready to pull out the f-word (which is horrendously overused on digg as some kind of cue for dismissing droves of people btw), there is reason to believe through polling and news that sony will not have the level of success that nintendo would. so digg the likely scenario, bury the unlikely- seems reasonable enough to me. - d2nd, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1"last thing at night when I'm coming in from Uni/Work is I drop my ipod into the hifi and finish listening to my songs... btw. Im not really a 'fanboy' of sorts.."
Sure dude, glad you like your setup, but most of us dont drop anything into a HiFi. In fact, I find it hard to believe you are not a fanboy, yet own a HiFi (nothing wrong with being a rational apple fan).
I wake up and grab my PocketPC in the morning, sync throughout the day as necessary (not tied to one machine, can interface with pda via PC while synced). Lots of people go though the same procedure everyday, relatively "seamless and easy"... from a MS product - flag564, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2I agree, with the iTablet, iTV, iPhone, ihome theater, iLCD projector, ipod video , ivideo wall, iVCR, Apple is going to kick butt this winter.
What? You mean Apple hasnt made any of those thing? The only thing they have is a sub par mp3 player? - flag564, on 10/12/2007, -14/+3"Apple is great at design, quality and innovation. "
Oh man, thats rich!
Does Steve send you shills post-dated checks for your work?
