- adroit, on 03/07/2008, -3/+133All i want is a Skype App. developed and fully supported by Skype.
- burstaneurysm, on 03/07/2008, -1/+59I'd love to be able to receive calls at work where I have no cell reception but I do have WiFi.
- CrimsonBlur, on 03/07/2008, -9/+40Sure, it's called an iPod Touch ;)
- inactive, on 03/07/2008, -0/+21Hackers to allow VOIP over the at&t data plan (hopefully one day)
- indiefan, on 03/07/2008, -0/+14while i wouldn't find this app extremely useful personally, I like that they seem to be trying to make it as open as possible (i'm sure their hands are tied by at&t regarding voip over cell)
- chrisinsocalif, on 03/07/2008, -3/+15T-mobile have wi-fi enabled phones and experimenting with Wi-Fi rate plans so you can use your cellphone at either wi-fi hotspots or at your own home and not charge minutes if you are using Wi-fi. They will only charge bucket minutes if you use their cell towers. Also it can help people who have poor cell coverage but a good internet connection perhaps even prolonging battery life. I hope an unlocked Iphone can take advantage of this on the T-mobile network.
- deadnoob, on 03/07/2008, -1/+12campus wide wifi ftw!
- MikeSD34, on 03/07/2008, -1/+11Because the Windows Mobile UI and 3rd party application UIs make my eyes bleed and my brain hurt.
- czman, on 03/07/2008, -1/+10agreed. If they do that it may turn out that eBay were not that stupid for buying skype after all.
- DaffyDuck, on 03/07/2008, -2/+10The touch doesn't have a microphone though.
- Vector713, on 03/07/2008, -2/+10WRONG!
I USED to own a PPC6700... well actually... I've owned FOUR of them, cause they're *****. They can't do a fraction of what an iPhone can... and I pity you for still using one. Get out my friend. Get out soon. No full HTML browser, no multitouch interface, no flash support, no java support, no IMAP, no nothing! It's a last gen POS windows phone.
BTW, have you ever played with an iPhone? I'm sure you'd never go back if you haven't. - supermanred, on 03/07/2008, -1/+8Because music on your 3G HTC sounds like ***** and mostly because it's an iPod + phone.
- grqb, on 03/07/2008, -1/+7Does the touch have a mic?
- automate, on 03/07/2008, -5/+11also need a SIP client.
- inactive, on 03/07/2008, -1/+6What are you people, Retarded?
http://touchmods.wordpress.com/ Here's Voip for itouch and iphone. - craigyjack, on 03/07/2008, -4/+9Shouldn't this be standard, and not really a big deal? It's wifi, just internet, and the iPhone is basically just a mini-computer. If a company or the computer you had WASNT letting you use VoIP or some other technology over the internet you would be pissed (hence the anger over torrent throttling etc), yet when Apple allows it everyone is all "yeah!". Uhm, this shouldnt be expected from the beginning - its a little computer using wifi. I can understand the blocking of cellular network using calls (they are owned by the companies), but it not allowing you to use the internet from your own wifi, that would just be ridiculous.
- Alex.w, on 03/07/2008, -0/+5Get a different phone and carrier then. VoIP over anything but UTMS/HSDPA would be ugly anyways.
- inactive, on 03/07/2008, -0/+5Okay, but the iPhone still needs a SIP client.
- jo21, on 03/07/2008, -5/+10so what?
every wifi equipped phone from nokia htc been doing that for years.
why is apple does it its a 700+ digg news? - Alex.w, on 03/07/2008, -0/+5I think his point was, encrypt your VoIP SIP transmissions, as people are already doing..
- griz, on 03/07/2008, -2/+6That was my exact point. No Microphone or speaker. Apparently people missed it. I don't want to hack in a microphone. I just want an iPhone to work on WiFi only without AT&T.
- Archer007, on 03/07/2008, -0/+4Encryption?
- al1encas1no, on 03/07/2008, -0/+4The funny part is, AT&T still owns the broadband and phone lines the VoIP calls run on, so this is larceny on two levels.
- bjornski, on 03/07/2008, -0/+3My my, someone didn't get a nap today.
- bjornski, on 03/07/2008, -0/+3That would be useful and cool.
- SniperGX1, on 03/07/2008, -6/+9Congratulations on being happy with your purchase. Move along now...
- LVsFINEST, on 03/07/2008, -0/+3lol, wtf is wrong with you?
- thailand1972, on 03/07/2008, -0/+3Reminds me of when I worked in McDonalds - somebody asked for a cheeseburger without the cheese. The receipt came through to the kitchen and I heard "eh, that'll be a regular hamburger then".
- kinglenster, on 03/07/2008, -1/+4I can't believe how much people are still going on about Windows Mobile after this. Don't they realise how ***** they actually are.
- robbh66, on 03/07/2008, -2/+5An unlocked iphone today doesn't mean squat with firmware 2.0. I imagine they'll keep jailbreaking it but the possibility of it becoming unjailbreakable (or extremely difficult to do so) does exist, albeit not likely.
- ravi7791, on 03/07/2008, -1/+4There are multiple tools out there for free which fake-activate the phone for you. They're extremely easy to use too.
- drlha, on 03/07/2008, -0/+3It must be the PSP, I use Skype on my laptop all the time over WiFI and its excellent.
- undersky, on 03/07/2008, -0/+2why do u want skype if u only talk 2 hrs anyway?
- Denneval, on 03/07/2008, -0/+2Someone needs to give you a bottle and send you back to bed.
- wobegon, on 03/07/2008, -0/+2"Does the touch have a mic?"
Damn. :'( - kenvsryu, on 03/07/2008, -1/+3Tmobile UMA is pretty good - it would be cool on the iPhone.
- griz, on 03/07/2008, -7/+9I want the iPhone without the Cell service. Can I buy an iPhone, not activate it and still use it on Wifi?
- notadiggtard, on 03/07/2008, -0/+2They make mics for ipods using the dock connector.Maybe that way?
- ibeetle, on 03/07/2008, -2/+4I have been playing around with Skype on my PSP. I do not know if it is the PSP or Skype or both. But wireless VoIP out in the wild kind of sucks. Even being free.
- MiDri, on 03/07/2008, -0/+2Skype is going to kill battery life SOOO fast...
- BlueStarr, on 03/09/2008, -0/+2lol
Yes but you've been using an inferior phone while you were waiting all this time. Now you get to use it on the Jesus phone and be a happier person.
Join us.....JOIN US. lol - TheKrillr, on 03/07/2008, -3/+5no, but you can hook one up externally. hackishly
- inactive, on 03/07/2008, -0/+2Me luv you long time!
- dizilbdog, on 03/07/2008, -0/+2I want Skype but I want it to interact with my iphone contacts, and I also want to be able to receive skype calls with a skype number and have it be able to differentiate between a Att call and a skype call coming in. Wow that sound complicated,,
- deadbaby, on 03/08/2008, -0/+2It's a conspiracy against you personally. People digg it just to piss you off. It's kinda mean but it's a lot of fun too.
- RobotBuddha, on 03/07/2008, -1/+3They can stop people from doing through their sdk though, as that software all has to get apple's approval. And none of the players with an commercial interest, like skype, would ever consider crossing apple's lawyers.
- ajb312, on 03/07/2008, -0/+2I wonder what this means for skype on the ipod touch.... They seem not be want to allow 3rd party peripherals to be accessible using the SDK....
- spazzcat, on 03/07/2008, -0/+1Huh...
- LilBoyLuver, on 03/07/2008, -1/+2This thread is great because it is so much like any other Apple story. People get excited about a feature getting added to an Apple product and then other people get on and complain saying x company has been doing this for centuries, why is it that Apple gets the attention for doing it now?
- jorkk, on 03/07/2008, -1/+2srsly
