- Nephersir7, on 03/26/2009, -0/+34Software patents are the biggest joke ever.
- Zippo, on 03/26/2009, -0/+32Ugh, more patent trolls.
- MacParrot, on 03/26/2009, -0/+24Wow...shocker that these suits were filed in east Texas. Anyone seeking legal actions in that area should be pushed out an airlock. This is just a blatent money grab
- Karai, on 03/26/2009, -4/+22For the love of which ever deity one wishes to gamble on (or none at all), please get Steve Jobs' balls out of your mouth. I mean, really, you can like Macs or Apple without being a complete ***** moron... Right? Fanboyism is one of the lowest forms of narrow mindedness I've ever witnessed.
- MCA2142, on 03/26/2009, -2/+17+1 to the rest of the law suits Apple has in the pile.
Sheesh... - ins1der, on 03/26/2009, -7/+21How the ***** do you patent finger gestures?
- Skurt, on 03/26/2009, -0/+12I don't think @MCA2142 was giving a 'thumbs up' s/he was just saying +1 added to the pile of suits...

attempt to profit - inactive, on 03/26/2009, -1/+8Its the American way.. if you cant work for it sue for it, and if that doesn't work cheat for it, and if that doesn't work buy a lottery ticket
- Gibletoid, on 03/26/2009, -1/+7I touched something almost 20 years ago with all 5 fingers.
Multitouch sue yer ass ftw.
Stamped it, no erasies was a much better intellectual property system.
"***** man, he STAMPED it, and no erasies. We can't sue" - sybersnake, on 03/26/2009, -1/+7The patent system is too screwed up. What I love the most is you don't ever need a working product to get a patent.
- linksus, on 03/26/2009, -0/+5how the ***** do you patent?
/me wants in on the deal. - OrangeTide, on 03/26/2009, -0/+5I've worked for so many companies where once we start shipping a product the patent trolls start their campaign for a piece of our action. Either just claiming they have patents on various things we did, which is fine in my opinion. To outright evil ***** like calling up employees or setting up meetings to "present some idea they have" when the reality is that it was either the next logical step or they actually got some inside information on what the company was working on. Then start up the process of patenting it (or not, not absolutely necessary). They claim they had the idea originally, and that when you spoke to them it was under NDA. And then they hope for a settlement or a full scale war over the patent rights.
These people are a plague as far as I'm concerned. And most of the places I've worked send out warnings to employees to watch out for them. - mlvassallo, on 03/26/2009, -0/+5I patented putting comments on webpages! You are all going to court!
- rasher, on 03/26/2009, -0/+5Perfect example of how out of control the whole patent system has become. hopefully nobody has patented making comments yet.
- ilovegarnet, on 03/26/2009, -0/+4These patents are SO STUPID!
- blackinthmiddle, on 03/26/2009, -1/+5I dugg you up and I know the patent system needs working on. However, I can understand why you can achieve a patent without a working product. Imagine you have a great idea, but don't have the funds to bring it to life. You start working with an angel investor to develop said product. A perfect example would be the NASA engineer, Lonnie Johnson, who developed the super soaker.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HpvEF_GIhmw
It took Lonnie seven long years to get his idea on the shelf as company after company rejected his idea. Now what would have happened if Lo didn't own the right to his gun? It's critical that ideas can be patented. Now it would be nice if there was some moratorium on patents, just like there are in the drug industry. You can hold this patent for 14 years. If you haven't brought your idea to market by then, you no longer own the patent. - cadmiumpaint, on 03/26/2009, -0/+4Its not so much that Apple did anything wrong as it is struggling companies trying to quick scam to get a few million in "go away money"
- jsmith39, on 03/26/2009, -0/+4Hey! We thought of you know, sending stuff without wires first, you need to pay us!
- Kazakaz, on 03/26/2009, -2/+5I just patented posting comments on Digg. I will file a lawsuit against anyone who violates my patent.
These patent lawsuits are past the point of ridiculousness. - Plower, on 03/26/2009, -0/+3What do you do when you can't compete with a company? Sue them!
Yup, sounds like America to me. - roddack, on 03/26/2009, -0/+3time for apple to unveil iLawyers
- andycr512, on 03/26/2009, -0/+2If anyone thinks the current software patent system is fine, I'd like to hear how they explain crap like this.
- Zippo, on 03/26/2009, -0/+2Sickening.
I've said it once before, and I'll say it again, the patent system is broken. First of all, vague patents that could be interpreted as any number of things should be invalid. If you don't create a working prototype of your patent within a couple years, the patent should expire. And if you can't make have a finished, commercial product, the patent should expire.
This is just greed. - kuruptnation, on 03/26/2009, -1/+3I find that this sucks, not only are these patent trolls obvious.
But I wouldn't doubt if this is the REAL REASON WHY Apple wouldn't release some of these features at an earlier time. Maybe they figured once they did that these trolls would come crawling out from their bridges.
So I assume they looked into it to see if they can beat these patents for their ridiculousness.
Cause no company should hold a patent to prevent a company from pursuing features everyone else has.
I say if they want to go after Apple they should also go after everyone else (suposedly) violating these patents.
BTW I think the Teaxans pattent rules should be reformed, cause Im getting a little tired of all this BS. - monistat7, on 03/26/2009, -0/+2Here are the patents in the case. I guess Aidan Malley doesn't know how to use google:

- MacParrot, on 03/26/2009, -1/+2You really can't get people to talk to you specialk16 unless you say something stupid can you? You should teach a class in Douchology
- mlvassallo, on 03/27/2009, -0/+1If he did I must have him blocked because I don't see his post at all.
- stacks14, on 03/26/2009, -2/+3don't forget, apple patented the ***** out of multi-touch - and has forced Google to cut multi-touch from android. this ***** works both ways.
http://androidcommunity.com/google-axed-android-mu ... - fluxion, on 03/27/2009, -0/+1*any plan to
i left out the "to"...sorry if that totally blew your mind. - Tenareth, on 03/26/2009, -0/+1No, that wasn't the American way, but people got angry when "Work for it" only worked for some people, so now they find excuses to tell themselves that they were cheated for failing at life.
- lowdose, on 03/26/2009, -0/+1Actually I have patented making comments, my lawyer will be contacting you soon...
- inactive, on 03/26/2009, -0/+1Isn't the only way to send data to a portable device through wireless? I mean, the portable radio is kinda prior art on all of this stuff.
- Plower, on 03/27/2009, -0/+1English...do you speak it?
- Plower, on 03/27/2009, -0/+1English...do you speak it?
- Samohtneas, on 03/26/2009, -0/+1Maybe it will help Apple see how stupid and full of ***** they are for trying to patent, of all things, finger gestures. I can understand patenting a webcam behind a monitor, that's something I haven't ever seen before. But finger gestures? Really?
In the future, there WILL need to be a standard of gestures for touchphones once tactile interfaces have become obsolete. Trying to patent them will only make things worse if you want to bring customers in once you have the upper hand with applications and other doodads that separate you from the other phones. - youre, on 03/26/2009, -0/+1people want a part of apples success.
- silvahenrique, on 03/26/2009, -0/+1Some companies lives only from lawsuits like this. They see a good new product on the market, analyze how it works and register a patent of something they didn't invent. Then, they try to get some money with legal threats or even with lawsuits against real inventors.
- coreyb, on 03/28/2009, -0/+1SCO anyone...?
- buddyfarr, on 03/26/2009, -0/+1I have the ipod touch and love the interface. My phone at work was just upgraded recently to the new Samsung Omnia with a touch screen. Wow, horrible downgrade compared to the ipod touch.
- sybersnake, on 04/01/2009, -0/+1Software patents are different than any physical product. What I love is when a patent comes around for a technology that doesn't exist or won't for another 10 years, but somebody gets a patent. Tell you the truth, the patent system, concerning software should move closer to the copyright laws which take place when the product is publicly shown or spoken about and should only cover more of the "how" a product works rather than what it does.
- pantsperch, on 03/26/2009, -0/+1You are an idiot.
