- Hodgie, on 01/30/2008, -13/+78I'm still pissed that they expect me to pay 19.99 for new apps for the touch. This is what I get for being an early adopter... And then they have the urge to email me telling me to upgrade!
***** off! - sugarhigh4242, on 01/30/2008, -9/+62All I want is a Touch with an 80GB HDD. Is that too much to ask?!
- brnagi, on 01/30/2008, -3/+43I can't really justify buying a new iPod, my old iPod works just fine and I don't see the point of buying a WiFi iPod if I can't sync it wirelessly from iTunes.
- relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -5/+41I can't wait for my iPod Touch Nano Air
- rudy23, on 01/30/2008, -3/+35I think people replace their ipods more often than the batteries
- inactive, on 01/30/2008, -3/+34I love the wi-fi, it's so damn useful, especially so I can read Digg between classes...or during class...and in the bathroom.
- sodypop77, on 01/30/2008, -0/+29I'm still waiting for Apple to put the capability to use AirTunes from a wireless enabled iPod. Streaming music wirelessly from my iPod to my home stereo/speakers hooked up to my Airport Express would be damn smooth.
Perhaps power consumption is still a factor, plus they seem to be moving away from AirTunes with their latest Airport base stations. Guess they want folks to buy the AppleTV instead. - avions, on 01/30/2008, -1/+24It would be great to see an iPod update in the Spring, but historically Apple waits until the Fall to introduce updates for the Christmas shopping season.
- thedragon4453, on 01/30/2008, -1/+20Yes :)
- inactive, on 01/30/2008, -4/+22I don't care how many wireless features they can cram into it. If they don't make them any bigger than 16GB, I'm not buying.
- Alphateam, on 01/30/2008, -3/+21This is great. The first new Ipod rumor.
69 more and we might have a new Ipod. - BinaryDelt, on 01/30/2008, -3/+18Am I the only person who still buys CDs?
- burkhartmj, on 01/30/2008, -2/+17Am I the only one who wants an iPod touch with a hard drive? I mean yea its heavier and thicker, but its also cheaper and holds exponentially more than flash based models could hope for. Imagine a touch for 350 with 80+GB of storage space....think of all the video you could put on it.
- rudy23, on 01/30/2008, -0/+15we really dont need the details
- tian2992, on 01/30/2008, -0/+14You don't have a ethernet socket on your bathroom?!
Shame on you! - jkizzle, on 01/30/2008, -4/+17yeah, cause im sure you can listen to 20 days worth of music without seeing your computer.
- gmprunner, on 01/30/2008, -0/+12It's so thin, you can staple through it as if it were a piece of paper.
- trisquithere, on 01/30/2008, -3/+15i really hope they have ipods with more memory and wifi
- sqwidget, on 01/30/2008, -4/+15I would totally jump at the prospect of cheaper, wi-fi enabled iPods. I'm one of those people who is due for an upgrade but isn't willing to bite the bullet and lay out $300 (cdn) on an iPod. Give me a $150-200 version with 4-6gb and I'm all over it. I don't carry my whole music library with me but would love to have the added functionality built into an iPod.
- LaughingMan11, on 01/30/2008, -2/+13Surfing the web is a pretty big deal for the iPhone/iPod touch, but it's great that you're getting the most out of older technology, and contributing less to e-waste.
- taxali, on 01/30/2008, -0/+10Really? Seen? Who? Who saw them introduce these bad boys?
- NOFXY, on 01/30/2008, -1/+11you can still rip CDs to iTunes and put them on the iPod...
- mizike, on 01/30/2008, -0/+10but it doesn't have a replaceable battery, what am i supposed to do for my 15 hour flights to asia?, this is made of fail
wait, what thread is this? - TheWorm, on 01/30/2008, -0/+9I had the same initial drawbacks to the touch regarding the pricepoint, but after jailbreaking it it's the most useful gadget I've ever owned. If you have the money I would definitely recommend it. Well worth the money.
- Jebral, on 01/30/2008, -1/+10Or... you know, just want to get a map to the party you're going to.
- jkizzle, on 01/30/2008, -1/+9no wifi, only on touch
- Brian48216, on 01/30/2008, -2/+10I do like the wifi, but I'd wish they had some more actual physical switches for the touch. It's damn near impossible to adjust volume or change tracks with the iPod in your pocket, and you don't want to take it out because it's cold as hell. At least a redesign of the interface would be nice so that the volume slider won't be 5 measly pixels, and you can just touch a general area of the screen to change tracks or pause playback.
- Takuro, on 01/30/2008, -0/+7If Apple decided to use a solid-state ~80GB drive, based on the MacBook Air's option pricing, that'd be a $1,200 iPod.
- helikopter, on 01/30/2008, -1/+8syncing wirelessly is too slow to be useful the majority of the time.
- TheSeptimHeir, on 01/30/2008, -2/+9To recap: an analyst is predicting that, in order to stay competitive, Apple will attempt to make cheaper and more innovative products? Isn't that a cookie-cutter summary of just about every business model? I pity the man who signs these analysts' pay checks.
- hadak, on 01/30/2008, -0/+6Yeah, well, I'm rubber and you're glue...
- hoppdawg, on 01/30/2008, -4/+10No. *****.
- TheCash, on 01/30/2008, -0/+5I guess you haven't heard of this new thing called the MacBook Air. Innovative maybe, but it sure as hell isn't cheap. Actually, "cheap" and "Apple" rarely go together in the same sentence, hence the term "Apple Tax."
- NSResponder, on 01/30/2008, -0/+5I don't think they even have sleeves anymore.
-jcr - 68024, on 01/30/2008, -2/+6Yeah, more memory, mostly. That's why I haven't yet bought an ipod touch...
- aussieNickuss, on 01/30/2008, -1/+5AirTunes has only ever been on the AirPort Express, so it's no surprise that it's not on the latest base station.
- Subriot, on 01/30/2008, -1/+5Or maybe you want a larger music selection to play randomly?
- colto, on 01/30/2008, -0/+4Not going to happen. The iPod touch uses a hardware x264 chip for video and the main processor is way too weak to process xvid.
- Shuk, on 01/30/2008, -1/+5Just please have a dedicated volume button. I hate turning up the volume a notch and accidentally end up turning it down more.
- VeganG, on 01/30/2008, -1/+5Ever tried getting directions from a human? Human interaction is overrated, they're too faulty.
- SantaClauz, on 01/30/2008, -3/+7You must either have
A) A ***** load of Porn
or
B) Enough Music to last you until June - bjornski, on 01/30/2008, -0/+4But look how THIN it is!
- Daniel591992, on 01/30/2008, -2/+6Oh, the 90s...
- inactive, on 01/30/2008, -0/+4Not to mention that using the wireless to sync an entire music library would be quite a drain on the battery as well.
- subterfu9e, on 01/30/2008, -0/+4And you have no way of charging yr ipod as well. Sure it's a novelty, but you DO need a recharge when the juice goes no?
- inactive, on 01/30/2008, -1/+5Breepee, did you even read the post you replied to? the iPod Touch uses a specific piece of hardware to process the h264 video.
- orph3us, on 01/30/2008, -0/+380 gig hard drive is probably about the same price as 16 gigs of flash bro
- gnash, on 01/30/2008, -1/+4Excuse me while I file this article under no *****.
- nbcaffeine, on 01/30/2008, -0/+3What tools have you installed after jailbreaking? I have a normal 16gb touch, and love it, as well as all the web apps people have made. Curious what added functionality you've found useful
- skidooer, on 01/30/2008, -0/+3The iPod Touch is an ultra-portable computer. Your old iPod is an MP3 player. The point of you buying a Touch would be if you want a full-fledged computer (at least if you jailbreak it) that you can throw in your pocket. If you just want an MP3 player, then you're right, there isn't much point.
I thought I just wanted an MP3 player and was about to buy the Nano thinking the Touch's extra features might end up being gimmicky. In the end I decided to go with the Touch anyway. It was a great choice. I've found I use it way more as a computer than as an MP3 player. My only wish is that it had the ability to communicate (via bluetooth, or whatever) with a cell phone for internet access and whatnot. -
