- maverick999, on 10/30/2007, -29/+353It's still not enough storage for me. When they come out with a 30 GB iPod touch, then I'll be on board...
- mywhitenoise, on 10/30/2007, -56/+349I was so happy and surprised when they announced it. I was ready to pull out my wallet for the pre-order, until they announced the storage. 8GB and 16GB is ***** ridiculous, it hasn't been that low since the iPod first launched. Very disappointing.
- letdowntourist, on 10/30/2007, -36/+28816 GB? Color me disappointed.
- digggggggggg, on 10/10/2007, -9/+223Microsoft, Sony, Toshiba, Creative, et. al., please step up your game.
- dupeduperson, on 10/10/2007, -10/+16816 Gb isn't too small. We used to bullseye wamprats back home and they aren't much bigger than 16 Gb.
- killerofkiller, on 10/10/2007, -5/+162seriously, i'm beginning to think apple is the only company trying
- romsel, on 10/10/2007, -7/+136Iphone has gone down in price.....8GB model is $399 starting today!
- aurrea, on 10/10/2007, -15/+141Wow. I'm completely dissappointed. 8 and 16GB? I would have much rather settled for a little more "bulk" to get at least 60 or 80 GB.
That "Ipod Classic" sounds pretty attractive though.... 160GB???!!! Goddamn... - Proximity, on 10/10/2007, -15/+129I love *everything* about it but one thing... WHY flash based?? I actually like having, you know, a music library on my iPod. I don't want to have to select only a few gigabytes at a time. Yes it makes it more durable and thinner. Whooptie-doo. A HDD based iPod Touch would have rocked. Pity.
- fogster, on 10/10/2007, -21/+118It's flash storage, a la the Nano... You're comparing it to a disk-based product.
The disk-based "iPod Classic" now goes up to 160GB. - fraul, on 10/10/2007, -18/+107Lord, tell me Apple, how can I give you my money fast enough ?
- SnuKs, on 10/10/2007, -10/+928 & 16 GB? I dont know... that's pretty weak storage if you ask me. For a minute there I thought that 160 GB ipod they were talkin about was goin to be the touch. Now THAT would make it insane!
Still... WIFI, Safari, iTunes music store, ect... all on a MUSIC PLAYER. Wow. - Icebox3, on 10/10/2007, -13/+94The 400 dollars isn't just for the storage space, you realise?
- HerrEisenheim, on 10/30/2007, -29/+104You'd have cried no matter what happened. If they released it with a 120GB HDD, you'd have cried about the battery life. If they'd released it with a 64GB SSD, you'd have cried about the price. They decided to compromise between space, price, and battery life and you cry anyway.
- geminitojanus, on 10/10/2007, -5/+75Shame you're getting buried because you're exactly right. 16GB of Flash NAND isn't cheap any way you cut it. Neither is that expensive Multi-touch screen they're slapping on top of it. I'm kinda bummed they didn't do a hard-disk based iPod touch, but imagine what the battery life would be on that (and how thick it'd have to be to accommodate the huge battery and hard drive).
But hey, you can't satisfy everyone. And on Digg, you can't satisfy anyone. - Bomster, on 10/10/2007, -13/+74Wish there was a larger iPod Touch, 16GB isn't really enough for most music lovers, and the iPod Classic is just not interesting enough.
- geminitojanus, on 10/10/2007, -1/+57Battery life. The iPhone/iPod touch have an extremely powerful processor and graphics co-processor, which takes up a huge part of the battery budget. Adding a hard disk would have basically doubled the thickness and cut the battery life in half. And since Apple's all about thin and long lasting batteries, it's against their business model.
But of course, nobody actually thinks about the practicalities of these things before posting their rage that it doesn't have 64GB of Flash NAND and Sharks with Friggin Lasers. - yunus, on 10/10/2007, -3/+59Someone is probably announcing how if they charge $10,000,000 a show they only need to sell a few to make up for their loss of Itunes sales.
- shieldss, on 10/10/2007, -6/+58I wonder what the conversation is like at NBC headquarters right now?
- mywhitenoise, on 10/30/2007, -20/+67yeah, so? What's the point of having all those features if it doesn't have ***** for space? This is supposed to be the top-of-the-line iPod product, and It can't even hold 20% of my music collection.
- mrfreeziexp, on 10/10/2007, -64/+109iPhone - Phone= awesome :)
But let me get this straight. $599 for 8gb iPhone, $399 for 16gb iPod Touch. $200 more for the phone feature(plus whatever att charges you) and you get half the space.. - madskjaer, on 10/10/2007, -1/+46It looks a little silly with all that extra icon space... iPhonePod hacking round two.
- SilverBlade2k, on 10/10/2007, -3/+44I want one. But the headphone jack better not be recessed......
- Nerfdude, on 10/10/2007, -15/+5516 gigs for 400 bucks? this isn't 2001. people buying fullsize ipods need space. why would you put a huge screen on something with no storage?
160gig ipod "classic" though... i'm definitely killing my current ipod so i can get one of those badasses. - killerofkiller, on 10/10/2007, -2/+42160 gb w/ 40 hrs battery? that's pretty interesting
- Dhalgren, on 10/10/2007, -1/+39I want to know if I can download podcasts with this new "WiFi iTunes Store"
- quomen, on 10/10/2007, -65/+102Apple + Starbucks = LAME.
And that's the LEAST of my concerns.
400 dollars for 16gb??? That's ***** 25 DOLLARS per gigabyte. This is highly disappointing. Screw the picture section and a fixed comment system, i've wanted an ipod touch for so long and they seemed to have fudged it up. I'd rather have it stripped of the gimics and just be a really good music/video/picture player. I was hoping that this is when I was going to jump onto the ipod bandwagon.. Maybe the classic. The touch is just a ***** ripoff though NO THANKS. - Almadiel, on 10/10/2007, -3/+40Pretty awesome, but tiny storage for the price. I would rather have a thicker model with a hard disk.
- IggyPop, on 10/10/2007, -13/+47That starbucks feature is so dumb. How about an iPhone for Canadian customers? Very underwhelming. And Tim Hortons > Starbucks.
- fuzzmeister, on 10/10/2007, -5/+37I think that Apple has realized that very few people have enough music to fill up an 80gb iPod, so they are moving mostly to flash memory, while still keeping an "iPod classic" for those with a lot of music.
- swaxhog, on 10/10/2007, -2/+32Oh man, $200 price drop in one month. That's how you say "thank you" to your early adopters.
- XBSHX, on 10/10/2007, -12/+4216gb is enough for me even if it is a little small.
- essjay, on 10/10/2007, -1/+31I think you've lost the plot. It's clear that from the iPod touch, the iPhone and other devices, you simply can't fit a proper HDD into a device this size, with this level of functionality and still maintain a half decent battery life. If you want storage, you can go for the "gimmick free" classic. Isn't that the whole point of it?
- peestandingup, on 10/10/2007, -2/+32The flash storage isnt at all a surprise. No way in hell they could fit all that stuff in there PLUS a big honking hard drive. I mean, they could, but it would be way too thick.
- meatmcguffin, on 10/10/2007, -21/+50Safari = awesomer
- padfoot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+29What about video. The iPod touch would be great for watching videos on as well, and they take up a lot more space than music.
- shak3d0wn, on 10/10/2007, -1/+28"And no I do not care about all those extras like Wifi and Safari. "
then buy the classic - JoeDiggsIt, on 10/10/2007, -3/+30Please, never write a story, play, or poem.
- digdugsmug, on 10/10/2007, -4/+30I say this all the time but i always wonder what the H. stands for?
- Jonjonjonny, on 10/10/2007, -6/+31Looks amazing but I'll stick to my 40GB 3rd generation until the new ipod packs a bit more memory.
- trry96, on 10/10/2007, -2/+27Counting down the days until I'm obsolete...
- samdu, on 10/10/2007, -6/+30So you're one of THOSE *****.
- easy4lif, on 10/10/2007, -7/+30I have WAAY more then 16GB. I'm getting an iPod Classic
- wattznext, on 10/10/2007, -1/+24I always wonder why people phrase a question as a statement, then put a question mark at the end anyway, like this?
- perryjoyce, on 10/10/2007, -13/+36I literally felt like I was punched in the gut when I saw that. I was so deflated, I thought it was a typo. Make it a little thicker and add a zero to that number for crying out loud.
- Dhalgren, on 10/10/2007, -1/+24Moving parts = teh suxxorz
Seriously, I jog with my Nano, I wouldn't do that with a hdd iPod. Although, I don't know if I like these new fatty Nanos either... - LLLSecretChimp, on 10/10/2007, -1/+24It's from "IHS", which stands for "Iesus Hominum Salvator", "Jesus, Savior of Men". (Thanks, acronymfinder.com.) "IHS" is often embroidered on ceremonial clothing or engraved on articles like chalices or baptismal fonts used in Roman Catholic religious services.
The stuff about "IHS" is true, but it's only my guess that that's the origin of the expression. - sLydE, on 10/10/2007, -5/+27$399 for the 8gb iPhone now.
- whataboutdave, on 10/10/2007, -1/+21I don't plan on putting my full library of songs on the touch just yet, anyway. I see it mostly as a portable web browser with some of my favorite media on it. No more lugging the laptop to the couch or around campus just to mess around on Wikipedia or whatever. WiFi is everywhere I would need a quick look at the web anyway.
