- FDL1, on 10/11/2007, -4/+84Can I buy a vowel?
- comcipher, on 10/11/2007, -0/+48Yeah, this version of the site was online right after the keynote. They added "3d" (really just angled) views of pretty much every option on the site.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+49Say what you want about iPhone, but Apple certainly makes beautiful web pages.
- itchytooth, on 10/11/2007, -3/+48The multi-touch video makes it look like the sensors detect your fingers before they make contact. This is surprising.
- e3mw, on 10/11/2007, -4/+43I wonder if that "protective shield" is replaceable in case you accidentally scratch it up by putting your slick new iPhone in the same pocket as your keys when you're in a rush.
- SPECOPS, on 10/11/2007, -1/+38"It wrecks FF, IE7, and Safari for windows. Who are they marketing to?" --- I've looked at it on IE7, Safari for Mac, FF For Mac, and FF for Windows - on both Windows XP and Vista, no problems. Maybe you have a plug-in or two mess'n with stuff.
- celcho, on 10/11/2007, -2/+37it uses capacitance to detect your fingers. our body disturbs electromagnetic fields and a grid behind the display detects them. so no touch is necessary and thus it can have a very hard plastic screen and it will work fine with a screen protector, too.
- Mudger, on 10/11/2007, -4/+39Wasn't this up right after WWDC?

I don't care how much of a rush you're in! I highly recommend taking the extra 5 seconds to make sure you don't end up mixing your $599 iPhone in with your keys. =P - sputnikv, on 10/11/2007, -6/+37where did i read that the screen wasn't pressure sensitive like most touch devices (with styluses), but rather and electromagnetic thing?
- EtherGnat, on 10/11/2007, -1/+28"where did i read that the screen wasn't pressure sensitive like most touch devices (with styluses), but rather and electromagnetic thing?"
The iPhone has a capacitive touchscreen. A continuous electrical current is run across the screen, which when interrupted by another capacitance field (like a finger) allows it to calculate the position. There are advantages to this method, but it makes it impossible to operate the screen with a stylus, gloved finger, or any other non-conductive device. - Bamborzled, on 10/11/2007, -2/+25@mobilehavoc
I don't know about that. Their website is very clean, welcoming and down to the point. Plus, I can find everything just fine. I'd say that's pretty damn functional. - ih8apple, on 10/11/2007, -0/+21still says cingular.....I thought that they would have changed that by now. But then again, I am sure that in a few months or years att will be something else........again. sigh
- PAJK, on 10/11/2007, -5/+26You complete moron.
- xShad0w, on 10/11/2007, -3/+23Yea i think i saw that when the guy was demonstrating the ipod at WWDC, the keyboard seemed to enlarge the key he was going for before his finger touched the screen, i dont know if this is true though
- Billions, on 10/11/2007, -4/+23You type the vocal pause "Ummm" but you won't type vowels?
- jediorange, on 10/11/2007, -0/+19Trust you? I don't even know you. I'd much rather trust a well established international company that has made many successful products. Thanks for the offer, though.
- 2shae, on 10/11/2007, -3/+18Seriously..the iPhone is a damn sexy device!!!
- Sagags, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14why would you want to carry around a bluetooth keyboard with your cell phone?
- longzheng, on 10/11/2007, -2/+14"Stop using Quicktime"
And we are suppose to view this how? - Ai3d, on 10/11/2007, -8/+20Sorry for comment abuse but ever since I updated quicktime to the latest version, Firefox crashes everytime the plugin loads. I've seen plenty of "solutions" but nothing works. Any ideas?
- shad0w, on 10/11/2007, -1/+13omargaz: Because a stylus wouldn't disrupt the electromagnetic field...
"In the capacitive system, a layer that stores electrical charge is placed on the glass panel of the monitor. When a user touches the monitor with his or her finger, some of the charge is transferred to the user, so the charge on the capacitive layer decreases. This decrease is measured in circuits located at each corner of the monitor. The computer calculates, from the relative differences in charge at each corner, exactly where the touch event took place and then relays that information to the touch-screen driver software. One advantage that the capacitive system has over the resistive system is that it transmits almost 90 percent of the light from the monitor, whereas the resistive system only transmits about 75 percent. This gives the capacitive system a much clearer picture than the resistive system."
http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/question716.htm - punx45, on 10/11/2007, -4/+14the touch sensing is similar to the technology they have been using on the ipod click wheel for a while.
- kelly, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9I don't see any reason why they wouldn't allow it.
If we read the text literally... I'd say yes,
The text reads as follows, "Instantly connects to the iPhone wireless Headset ***and other bluetooth enabled devices*** (emphasis added) - rcran, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Seems like a good feature to add to .Mac .
- rcran, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8We apple fanboys call that 'iPod syndrome'
"Should I buy this one? No there will be a new one soon"
"I bought one! Oh, there is new one?" - MrPresident13, on 10/11/2007, -3/+10So I put on my robe and wizard hat ...
- gravis86, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7This is the same technology that is used in the click-wheel on the iPods, and also the buttons on the 3G iPod. It is also used on those u-scans at Fred Meyer, Albertsons, and other grocery stores.
- crapiolio, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7try Quicktime alternative
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/QuickTime_Alternative.htm - omarqaz7, on 10/11/2007, -3/+9That's interesting. So then would it not sense the touch of a stylus?
- rdoger6424, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6@Mike89
FREE quicktime sucks and is a bloated piece
PRO quicktime rocks and is much more than a media player
Happiness is only a serial number away... - PiMPSP, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5@sydigg
Seemingly so, I view QT files fine in FireFox - Alegoo92, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5no it's not. :)
- mirunit, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5N95 > iphone, just had to say it.
- EtherGnat, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6"why would you want to carry around a bluetooth keyboard with your cell phone?"
There are plenty of fold-up bluetooth keyboards that easily fit in a pocket. A near full-size keyboard allows you to do a great deal of text entry without lugging around a full keyboard. I've used a similar setup before for taking notes at meetings when I didn't want to carry a laptop--it works great.
Example: http://www.amazon.com/Think-Outside-Stowaway-Bluetooth-Keyboard/dp/B0002OKCXE/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-8726611-1648952?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1182040182&sr=8-1 - Retnuh, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I was going to get this phone, but I thought for a bit.....
How are individuals or companies going to pay for the hosting/bandwidth of these 3rd party apps (that are actually websites)?
With Advertisements!!!!! - leontes, on 10/11/2007, -3/+7Hey, so will I be able to use my bluetooth keyboard with it?
- lintmonkey, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4...because saving for college is *so* cliche.
- inkhead, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6Thank God, now people can actually see that it senses your fingers before you touch. YES PEOPLE it senses before you touch.
It's AWESOME when using the keyboard, before you hit the key it GETS bigger, and you can know exactly what you are going to hit or move.
It's really fantastic. It's not like any multi-touch you have ever used. You will be totally surprised. - moofer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4We know he's "capable" of it... or else he would have typed:
mmm ths hs bn p fr mnths nw, nyn wh ws vr n th knw bt th Phn hs lrdy sn ths mnths ag.
What a dmbss - moofer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I am in yur fonez shocking yer fingers
- ilgaz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4If webpages are apps, here is my first app.
Hello World! - championchap, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4@Ethergnat (#7224881)
Sounds similar to the ipod actualy, that dosnt anticipate where you are going to touch.. but it to dosnt work when wearing a glove or using another impliment.. like a pencil.. believe me I tried. - ilgaz, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5It is very funny that if they fixed 3 (yes, three!) lines, it would be valid XHTML 4
The lines are just missing couple of arguments, see yourself:
http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.apple.com%2Fiphone%2Ftechnology%2F - Mike89, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5Quicktime is a pile of *****. I clicked this link and I'm like Hmm, why has my CPU usage gone to 100%?
Note that I'm not Anti-Apple, but if you don't think Quicktime is a piece, well, then. - superkendall, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6Because if people want a keyboard, they want a real keyboard that doesn't take up half the screen and have terrible keys.
I know someone with a Windows Mobile PDA (with a keybaord) who uses a Bluetooth fold-out keyboard anytime he has to do any kind of lengthy typing, or in meetings.
I don't know if it will work, but I am assuming it will... - EtherGnat, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3"Between this and the iPhone Nano other phone makers will be relegated to 20% of the market overnight."
Please tell me that is sarcasm. - inkhead, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3The infra-red proximity sensor for skin is bad ass, seriously great that apple finally talks about some of the stuff in it. It's nice that stuff "magically" works, but using an infra-red "camera" for skin detection is high-tech.
Freaking sweet. - andburn1, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Yes we did, it was in the keynote.
