- fandyllic, on 06/10/2009, -14/+42What a lame list.
Here's my list (even though I'm realistic and don't expect any of it):
10. More server utilities.
9. Eliminate more DRM'd content from iTunes store.
8. Much better iPhone battery life.
7. Free 3.0 upgrade for iPod Touch users who alwyas get screwed.
6. Announce return to MacWorld SF (never happen, Apple doesn't admit their mistakes).
5. Better iWork apps.
4. A unified OS X dev environment for iPhone and Macs.
3. AT&T imploding in on itself or not being the most mediocre cell carrier in the world.
2. More features in Snow Leopard (sure it's cheap, but it you don't get much).
1. Midrange minitower. - Kazbaeden, on 06/10/2009, -0/+21"Despite its absence on Monday, the tablet may still be on tap: Some analysts believe the device could debut later this year or even in 2010."
Where have I heard this before? Oh yeah, at every other Apple event for the past 10 years.
"Some analysts believe the device could debut later this year or even in 2009."
"Some analysts believe the device could debut later this year or even in 2008."
"Some analysts believe the device could debut later this year or even in 2007."
ad infinitum...
Who are these "analysts"? - tonychenyj, on 06/10/2009, -3/+18Agree with the iPhone Battery Life one.
I was expecting the Adobe Flash Support also. - AngelBunny, on 06/10/2009, -2/+16imho flash needs to die and not be embraced. and srsly imagine the battery life if it was supported.
- xcrico, on 06/11/2009, -0/+14Here is their list if you don't want to click the link:
1. The Apple Tablet
2. The Elusive 'iPhone Nano'
3. The iPhone FM Transmitter
4. A New iPod
5. Adobe Flash Support
6. Removable Batteries
7. iProd and iFPGA
8. MMS and Tethering Support (That Can Actually Be Used)
9. Carrier Expansion
10. Steve Jobs - frem001, on 06/10/2009, -0/+12I was hoping for a higher resolution OLED display on the iPhone (would hopefully help the battery situation) and at least a 5MP camera. I wonder how apps would be adjusted to work with higher resolution displays, is resolution independence built into mobile OSX?
The iPhone needs better App management... I'd like to be able to quickly organise apps in set pages instead of having to go through them all and separate them into my own categories by hand... this should be done within iTunes.
More reasonable upgrade strategy for the new iPhone... why aren't contracts 12 months (well it was quite common for them to be 12 months in the UK before the iphone came out and then boom, now most are 18 months long. 18 months does not match the iphone upgrades). Since most people aren't going to pay the sum required to upgrade how will apple meet their targets when it's the current iPhone customers who are really interested in getting an iPhone 3GS.
Tethering should be included in the higher priced iPhone tariffs (with a cap to keep it fair and i don't think people would use it that much considering it's nothing compared to normal broadband speed, but good enough for light browsing and sending emails).
Higher resolution displays for the MacBook Pro's (13" and 15")... they are for professional users after all and even Sony offers high resolution options for their 13" notebooks (1600x900 on the Z series) - CannedCorn, on 06/10/2009, -2/+14I, for one, was waiting for the appearance of jesus... el jobso
- MooseOfReason, on 06/10/2009, -1/+10Lol, I totally misunderstood what "WWDC" meant. I thought it was like "What would Jesus Do?"
"What would Dell create?" - JustinAiken, on 06/10/2009, -1/+811. ZFS+
- MacParrot, on 06/10/2009, -5/+1210. Could still happen as this is a developer's conferance
9. This isn't up to Apple (though with Jobs holding 40% of Disney, you'd think they could relax a bit on Disney/Pixar flicks)
8. They'd have to make a bigger iPhone
7. Yeah this does suck, the law that requires this should be changed (though Apple shouldn't ask for the amount that they do either)
6. They COULD (but probably won't) now that IDG moved the conferance to later
5. I think the current iWork apps are pretty good
4. Two different platforms that serve two different markets
3. Thinking about how much I would care if AT & T dropped into a black hole. Nope, not caring
2. Snow Leopard is about moving to a 64-bit environment, not about new features
1. Needed for years - wastern, on 06/10/2009, -0/+7#2
Snow Leopard was never about new features, this was stated day 1. Its about positioning themselves well for the future. They still did a lot of work on it, and I for one thing increased speed, stability, and optimization is a good thing and a pretty nice feature. Not to mention giving a faster more stable platform to build features onto for 10.7. The few things they did add will be nice additions and things I will enjoy
Well worth the $29. I don't think anyone has room to complain at that price point. - Kellster, on 06/10/2009, -1/+7What are you talking about? I have a MICROSOFT bluetooth mouse, and everything on it works perfectly in Leopard.
- inactive, on 06/10/2009, -0/+6I think the tethering should be free.
We pay for the bandwidth, so why should they care if we actually use it and hit our cap?
I don't see what the issue is on that one or why they're so stubborn about it. Hell, it's $30 alone a month.
They could have good PR and be the first provider to openly support free use of tethering to bring on more customers... but noooo. - Xeworlebi, on 06/11/2009, -3/+8One of the worst lists I have ever seen.
1. If Apple ever comes out with a tablet it won't be between $500 $700. That's the price of the iPhone (unsubsidized). You think that they can put stuff in there that would be considerd acceptable for a tablet, a device that people use like it is there main computer, for the same prize?
2. This iPhone Nano would have a smaller screen, witch would cripple the iPhone. People complain about the keyboard being small now, you want it even smaller?
3. Why? I never got why you would want to transmit an FM signal from your iPhone.
4. Didn't really expect it, a price drop/storage increase for the iPod Touch would have been nice.
5. No… Flash die in a fire. It's not going to happen.
6. Not going to happen either. 8 years people expected removable batteries in there iPod, guess what? No removable batteries.
7. Really? You wanted something that you had no clue about what it actually was or if it even existed.
8. While you didn't get it a lot of other countries did.
9. I seriously doubt that if they have an exclusive deal with AT&T till somewhere in 2010 that they will announce it now.
10. On sick leave till the end of June is till the end of june. Saying that the keynote will be given by Phil Schiller, will most likely mean that it will be given by Phil Schiller.
Stop getting your hopes up so high so that the only outcome will be disappointment. And stop listening to analysts, they make so much stuff up that hopefully some of it will be right.
I wanted a 32Gb iPhone and I was happy after the keynote. All the rest was better just extra awesomeness. - fatbobsmith, on 06/10/2009, -0/+5Really? I bought a mouse with a click wheel and back and forth buttons and all the buttons work great on my MacBook Pro. No drivers needed.
- mediaphile, on 06/10/2009, -1/+6@Billistic:
Absolutely false. - bigdoof, on 06/10/2009, -3/+8I'm just going to comment on #7. That "accounting requirement" excuse is the biggest amount of BS ever created by any company. It's remarkable that anyone believes it.
Companies produce firmware updates all the time and charging for them is extremely rare. Microsoft updates the Zune and XBOX360 regularly. Sony updates the PS3 regularly. All of the other PMP makes add new features and codecs all of the time. My router is still being updated. My cell phone has received several updates, with significant features added every time. Hell, my TI-86 used to receive updates. I've never had to charge for any of this. So from this, I gather Apple is the only company in compliance with federal law and everyone else is just exposing themselves to litigation? Right...
It has nothing to do with products on a "subscription model" or a one time sale. It's Apple, once again, selling minute updates for exactly what the market will bear. In this case, it's $10. Remember that 802.11 update? $2. It continues.
Apple continues to charge for the updates, and fanboys eat their their "accounting requirement" excuse right up. I don't understand this cognitive dissonance at all. - r00fus, on 06/11/2009, -0/+4Flash needs to die, long live HTML5 embedded video
- eldinb, on 06/11/2009, -2/+6Who needs Flash? HTML5 hello!
That list is stupid - freediverx, on 06/11/2009, -0/+4Why the hell do you need 800X480 on an iPhone? At that size the added resolution is not necessary unless you want applications with microscopic buttons and text. I for one would not want the added cost and reduced battery life in exchange for for stupid bragging rights.
Apple customers focus on functionality and user experience - not on dumb specs. - inactive, on 06/10/2009, -3/+710. some sort of Media Server would be nice.
9. ***** YEAH.
8. Not a priority but....***** YEAH.
7. Why the ***** do we have to pay for this *****?....on another note it's possible to BitTorrent it.
6. meh.
5. seem alright to me but i'm sure they could do with a bit of tweeking.
4. would be sweet but may encourage the ability to remove DRM from Apps using Xcode.
3. they can't even handle MMS yet so don't expect Mobile Broadband anytime soon.
2. The box looks nice though.
1. they tried it with the G4 cube & failed. - jonglebeats, on 06/11/2009, -0/+4And Roger's hidden fees are a bitch.
- FirstOne1, on 06/10/2009, -3/+7this list is ***** stupid.
- ahpro, on 06/10/2009, -2/+6How about a front facing camera and a different design (even if it was justs a new back to make it look slightly different) for the iphone.
- HamNCheese, on 06/11/2009, -0/+4How about some bones for those of us who make our living with their Mac:
* Final Cut Pro (64 bit / OpenCL)
* Logic Studio (64 bit / OpenCL)
* Aperture (64 bit / OpenCL)
* Motion (64 bit / OpenCL)
* Shake (64 bit / OpenCL)
I could go on... - wastern, on 06/11/2009, -1/+5The percentage of people with Intel versions of Tiger still are pretty small. And they get Snow Leopard + iWork + iLife for $169 or something. Which gets them up to date on everything and is still a pretty good price. Try going from XP to Windows 7 for that price while throwing in Office, not going to happen
- Nephersir7, on 06/10/2009, -0/+4"AT&T imploding in on itself or not being the most mediocre cell carrier in the world."
AT&T is FAR from being the most mediocre cell carrier in the WORLD. Have you ever been to Canada?
AT&T is BETTER than EVERY carrier in Canada. The most mediocre carrier in the world is Bell (which also happens is also the worst ISP). - xxmjumpman23xx, on 06/10/2009, -1/+5A 2 year contract is a 2 year contract. Don't expect subsidized prices after 1 year. I had an LG Voyager on Verizon...If I broke it it would be $500 to replace. This is how it is on all carriers and all phones...
- bigplrbear, on 06/11/2009, -0/+3Where's my G5 powerbook?
- TallestSkil, on 06/11/2009, -0/+3EXACTLY. WWDC needed to be about Snow Leopard with announcements for Final Cut Studio 3 and Logic Studio 2 (at least) being rewritten with better multithreading and OpenCL support to be released alongside it.
Aperture 3 and Shake 5 would come along within the next six months. - swmbuk, on 06/11/2009, -2/+5Title Correction: "I am a dumb ass journalist with nothing better to report on today"
- MtheoryX, on 06/10/2009, -2/+5Successful troll is surprisingly successful.
- Konstantino, on 06/11/2009, -0/+3I kind of agree with the nature of the list. I think people are forgetting that WWDC is a conference for developer's, and not a particularly good event to announce, say, a new iPod.
- cthielen, on 06/10/2009, -1/+4Resolution independence is built into Snow Leopard. Not sure about Leopard or iPhone OS 2 or 3.
- yeahright, on 06/11/2009, -0/+2Really? I've been pleasantly surprised with Rogers lately (long-time hater):
- We have a 6GB data plan (albeit promotional), your "unlimited" tops out at 5
- MMS will be fully supported when the iPhone 3.0 software is released (sounds like you'll be waiting)
- Tethering will be fully supported when the iPhone 3.0 software is released (sounds like you'll be waiting) - adriaaan, on 06/11/2009, -0/+210. Whatever
9. Sure
8. The battery didn't really improve that much, hence the "much"
7. So he should be prioritising iPod Touch upgrades?
6. Agreed
5. Also agreed
4. Yes but they ship 2 different versions of XCode, what fandyllic wants is for them to unify it
3. Won't pretend I know anything about AT&T
2. Agreed
1. Unfortunately, you're right :( - mediaphile, on 06/10/2009, -1/+3It's $29 if you have Leopard already, anyway.
- spokenrope, on 06/10/2009, -4/+6I've only been closely following Apple products for a short time now (since buying my iPod Touch less than a year ago), but I'm already starting to see that Mac fans are some of the whiniest ***** in the world.
Which is odd because I previously perceived them as the sort that would defend everything Apple to their last breath... - mrBitch, on 06/11/2009, -0/+2No phone supports Flash. Some support "Flash Lite" which is NOT Flash.
Google it, if you don't believe me.
When Flash is able to work on a mobile device without sending it's cpu to 100% utilisation and draining a phone battery within 20 minutes, then we'll see... - migitalwarfare, on 06/11/2009, -0/+2it is. these crybabies expect apple to make it smaller and massively improve battery life at a lower cost with everything they do, and they'll be disappointed in apple for not living up to their over-blown expectations.
- sbluetruck, on 06/11/2009, -0/+2Apple will never have something upgradable in the consumer range at least while Steve Jobs is still living. If he didn't want a floppy drive on the original Macintosh, he doesn't want your 4870x2 in your tower, unless you pay for a "pro" machine
- GelfTheElf, on 06/11/2009, -0/+2It's FM TRANSMITER (not receiver).. it's so the Ipod can broadcast to your FM Radio in your car without having to buy a Griffin or other unit.
- freediverx, on 06/11/2009, -0/+2"I don't understand why Apple didn't include a camera on the front. It does video(finally), but no video chat?"
If AT&T can't handle features as basic as MMS and tethering do you really think they could support video chat? Besides, video chat phones have been around for years in other countries and the feature is really not all that popular. - mrBitch, on 06/11/2009, -0/+2@ spokenrope, RE: "... Mac fans are some of the whiniest ***** in the world.
Which is odd because I previously perceived them as the sort that would defend everything Apple to their last breath... "
Exactly right! I only noticed this after I bought a MacBook Pro and started following Apple topics... - newbill123, on 06/11/2009, -0/+27. iProd and iFPGA
What's really insane about this item is that these are meaningless abbreviations that might have actually debuted at WWDC but under different names. No idea about the tech. No idea about the meaning. But, they wanted these abbreviations to be used in an announcement, because... ? - Mediaright, on 06/11/2009, -0/+2I, for one, was waiting for the appearance of Jesus...like actually Jesus.
- Scott2, on 06/11/2009, -0/+2Major iPod events are usually in September.
And I consider Snow Leopard one HELL of a bargain considering what you get under the hood. - s73v3r, on 06/11/2009, -0/+2That lens kinda needs a camera to go with it if you want it to capture anything.
- adriaaan, on 06/12/2009, -0/+1@brundlefly76,
Actually the first Intel processors Apple used were 32-bit (CoreDuo and CoreSolo). The first 64-bit Intel processors that Apple purchased came with the Core2Duo and Core2Solo. - sinembarg0, on 06/12/2009, -0/+1I legally own an intel version of tiger. I run leopard though. I will get snow leopard too, I'll pay for it if it's $30, but probably not if it's more.
