- theone3, on 10/12/2007, -18/+276Henceforth, all glowing Mac logos must be turned towards Fifth Avenue to provide optimal performance. Every mac user must make their pilgrimage at least once in their lifetime to the fifth avenue building. A full wallet is a requirement of entry. Those who do not have a full wallet must walk around the store seven times in a counter-clockwise direction, waving their iPods towards the store. All pilgrims must wear blue jeans and a turtleneck sweater.
- Prod_Deity, on 10/12/2007, -5/+26That has to be one of the funniest comments I've read in a long time.
Yes, I am a mac user. I also have a sense of humor as well. - t0dd, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14Amen. I think this is what Apple is hoping for: http://www.sufismo.net/images/Hajj%20foto.jpg
- deepsub, on 10/12/2007, -20/+27And... everyone has to bow down and kiss a glass Steve Jobs ass and say "Moof!".
- fluffyturtle, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10What the FRACK!
There are a few black panels removed and this is a story on digg? This is a story that 760 people have dugg??
Tools, each and every one of you. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -21/+27Ugh, these Mac stores are really lame.
http://img452.imageshack.us/my.php?image=winvsmacusers6cw2ae.gif - KZeni, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Building design is still a great form of design. And from the looks of it, this seems like it'll be one great building.
So don't go harshing saying that only Apple fans are digging this, because people who like building that look awesome can digg this too. - KZeni, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12Umm, actually it doesn't seem like it at all. Sure it uses glass... but that's about the only similarity between them. 360 store only has 1 wall of glass, and is rectangular. So my vote is for it looking nothing like the 360 store at all.
- vandy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9and for those who don't understand what you are looking at, but are commenting on it anyways, it is a glass cube that is being constructed over the entrance to the store. notice that it is still being constructed and that the black is just a barricade covering it up. the black will go.
- n8han, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Two more pics here:
http://www.gothamist.com/archives/2006/04/07/the_cube_reveal.php - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+13headswine...yes it would. It is just that if it was the SAME EXACT picture and it was Microsoft's building, digg users would be saying how ugly the building was. There would be talk that it is all glass becuase Microsoft doesn't eant you to have any privacy. And hte title would be something like "Microsoft desperately opens new store in NY."
- raccettura, on 10/12/2007, -12/+16This is Mecca for Mac Addicts.
It's true... It is a religion.
/drinks the kool aid - FuzzyCat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Will people piss in the corners of this too then?
- RockTheWall, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Because the millions more that Microsoft, Dell, and others spend on advertising than Apple doesn't affect the price at all...
Just because you're not an Apple fanboy doesn't mean you're not a fanboy. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6I don't know what's worse...the Fanboy...or the Obsessed person against fan boys
- blurtheimage, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8Why do Windows users have to let you know that they think these stories suck? It's in the APPLE section! It's APPLE news! APPLE has fans!
Sorry, it's just the way it is...calm down and get over it. Next time the universe is created we'll make sure to consult you, til then just slooww down. - Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4It's the entrance foyer, the store is underground!
- deepsub, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8I can't see that anyone has blatantly 'defiled Islam' in this thread.
Take the chip off your shoulder and stay awhile.
Calling people Zionists (in a pejoritive fashion) and 'Islamophobic stereotypes' both hurts your cred and makes you guilty of what you accuse others of being: disrespectful to religion. - bpapa, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Eh well that picture wasn't exactly interesting.
I can't wait for this though, the SoHo store is retardedly packed at all times, and this one will probably be as bad, but it might lessen the load a little bit. Also I think I've heard rumors that it's supposed to open 24-7? - Lewisham, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8Is the link wrong? All I see is about 3 blocks taken off: there isn't much to see. Certainly not what the title says.
- tjhanley, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4...This just in... "All patrons at the Apple's Glass Cube perish during hottest day in New York this year"
- deepsub, on 10/12/2007, -9/+11I'm a Apple customer, yet I too think this article is pointless.
- hyperpasta, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The glass cube is only the entrance. There are stairs inside to take you down into the (underground) store.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Why don't you bitch instead about the wavy piece of ***** they put up down in astor place? At list the apple store entrance has four sides, just like every other building in the area.
- kenrohde, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5the building is totally out of sync with its surroundings. Its damn ugly in that location
- imagine, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6WTH? Dude it's just a store... it's not like they have new products in their everyDAY!
- cob05, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Digg should at least let you filter out stories that you don't want to see. I mean if I see one more insanely boring story about a Mac running some OS (win or linux) I might go insane! PC's can run both too! Wow!!!
Steve and his brother Blow need to give us a break and the Mac people need to take a breath. - ohmar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1And by that you mean that you said it looks like the Kabaa, located in Mecca, with the black silk cloth over it. I think you also said you were ignorant and had no respect for the holiest site in Islam other than using it as a source of amusement. And no, i am not Muslim, i just respect the culture. Respect, try it some time.
- 1randomnumber, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Hrm... I don't really see it as all that revolutionary, or aesthetically pleasing, even. Is that all it is? A glass cube? I don't see what the big deal is about it. It's not a revolutionary design, or even artistic. It's a... cube. Woo...?
- Lewisham, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7"Apple's Fifth Avenue Glass Cube revealed"
Revealed might imply that you know... you can *see* stuff.
I'm as big a Mac fan as it gets, but the boards aren't taken off yet. There isn't a lot to see here! - ndm007, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7You were thinking "why isn't there an Apple Store here"? Should have gone to SoHo...
http://www.apple.com/retail/soho/ - hasbeen, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3yes, it probably will be pretty nice. However, you can't really judge this by this picture, because, quite frankly, you can't see a thing, other than a black box and and a little glass. If it were finished, I would totally agree with you though.
- t3hX, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3People that should be banned on digg:
mrfx
koolaidguy - theone3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2otherland. I'm a Muslim (seriously), and I made the top comment. Explain how that makes me an Islamophobe, please.
Islam, like every other religion, is a system of belief, and therefore defined as a form of cult. Apple is often jokingly refered to as the cult of mac, and the parralel was too obvious to ignore. I'm obviously not afraid of Islam and many of the people who notice the parralel are not either. I don't believe I was trivialising our religion by pointing out a parralel. - foxhoundadmin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2earlier, in another story's thread, i said it looks like mecca with that black sheet over it.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5Yeah, his 'real' father is Abdulfattah Jandali, a Syrian, thus making Steve Jobs an Arab-American. But he's not a Muslim i think.
- BigHungryJoe, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Who are you trying to kid? A troll like you has all the time in the world!
- shashin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1yay apple opens store that splinters and cuts and has see through floors.Whos a perv? yes thats right. You are.
- cheesy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I think I know why they're building it in NY instead of Apple's home turf, California...would YOU want to be inside a glass cube during an earthquake?
- RockTheWall, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1You clearly have not seriously considered the gap in advertising.
Although iPod ads are, admittedly, increasingly ubiquitous, Apple, to its fanboys' chagrin, refuses to advertise it's operating system or computers.
Less than a year ago, Microsoft began a advertising campaign directed towards consumers with a bill of a few hundred million dollars. Remember that this is in addition to their enormous business advertising costs. Then consider the ads of all of the manufacturers, on TV, the internet, in print, anywhere they can find. Apple pales in comparison. - cob05, on 10/12/2007, -9/+9Wow. A glass cube. How *yawn* exciting...
Why don't you all go fly to a Star Trek convention and worship some guys in latex suits while you wait for it to open? - hollywoodone, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4It's ugly.
- t0dd, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Come off it. It's no coincidence that the apple store has a simple iconic design.
What works for religions works for brand loyalty as well.
"Excess"? That's nothing new - ever read the Qur'an?
"...shall get all that they may desire and all that they can ask for, as a first gift from God." (Fussilat 41: 31)
"...shall have perfected mateS/counterpartS/spouseS" ( Arabic: Azwajun Mutahharatun) - dreamissary, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The secret behind the new Apple store is revealed at Funny.com:
http://www.funny.com/funny?fn=CBN0Z
:-) - ronaldhennessy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I really don't get why the Apple haters are in full force. They know that they are going to get a thumbs down anyway. I don't care about some topics that frequently display on the front page and I don't read or comment on them.
- lzdmbgd, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2
"edEx Pro User says:
Apple Store - Glass Cube.
So, I did a little investigating. The veneer will not be coming down today or this weekend. Engineers are photographing it to make some alterations. Apparently Apple is not happy with the steel buckles holding the glass together. They want to use another attachment such as something that will blend better with the glass.
The projected opening of the Glass Cube and store is May 20th, 2006. The store is underground and is 25,000 SQFT" - dracula7, on 10/12/2007, -7/+6yess, now i wont have to wake up at 5 in the morning to make a genius bar appointment
- patrickweber, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2It takes you down to I think a 5 story apple store underground.. (is it 5 stories underground? that's what i rememeber it as at least)
- deepsub, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2But they come close sometimes. :D
- metalica77, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2if anyone lives in NJ ther is another apple store opning in the freehold mall. it is not written anywerer but i saw it being built last month so heads up.
