- inactive, on 07/10/2008, -8/+24I've been looking through all the apps in iTunes all day and downloaded a bundle. Like with any platform, there is a lot of mediocre apps, mixed with a few great ones. There isn't many apps that you can't already get by going to the internet, stuff like Mobile Banking with Bank of America and eBay Mobile, but then there's a few awesome games and stuff like Epocrates and Apple Remote which holds the promise of things to come.
Even the diehard, dyed in wool, Windows Mobile, Crackberry loving, Apple hating, Anti-Fanboys have got to be really envious right now. - howdog, on 07/11/2008, -1/+12It's 8:25 AM EST and the website says the 2.0 update for the iPod Touch is available, but it is still not in iTunes. Keep getting an error.
- cgruber, on 07/11/2008, -2/+12Well if you've checked digg in the last 3 months you can tell how highly anticipated it's been.
- mrtrik, on 07/11/2008, -0/+8digg iphone is ok... but...
I'd like to be able to comment. see more than 5 "top" comments. vote on comments. - Diggnabbit, on 07/11/2008, -0/+8Because the iPhone 2.0 OS isn't out yet. Just the Apps are. So, you haven't bought the OS for your Touch to run it.
- netdroid9, on 07/11/2008, -2/+10He says that about everything, though. The Mac, OS X, iTunes, the iPhone, hell, the App Store's just a bloody page with a few links on it when you consider the effort gone into some of the other stuff Apple's built.
- bloominoctober, on 07/11/2008, -0/+7Where the hell is the 2.0 software? I have a whole day of not getting ***** done planned. Those plans are being seriously hindered right now.
- bigbadgoat, on 07/11/2008, -1/+8A phone is behind an open source operating system?
How are the two related, other than that phones have operating systems? - drlha, on 07/11/2008, -0/+7What about digg do you want that isn't served by either going to Digg on MobileSafari or the Digg iPhone optimized page?
- bigbadgoat, on 07/11/2008, -3/+10yet you bothered to click the link and post the comment?
What do you do if you actually do care? - sea5ons, on 07/11/2008, -0/+7Do you realize that they hadn't released the 2.0 software until today, and that it was required to install and run the apps? Apple had marked the "release date" as 7/11 --- so I don't know why you're so angry.
- RockNRollBeaver, on 07/11/2008, -2/+9I can't wait for Texas hold'em. =)

I think we are getting close iTouch users - tomlit, on 07/11/2008, -0/+6agree with mrtrik... digg iphone is extremely limited to the point of me never wanting to use it... I just go to the main digg page in mobilesafari to browse digg which is usually slow annoying and semi-buggy as there are random icons behind all the news.
A full app with ability to view all comments, make a comment, and edit/view profile information would be awesome. Although I don't use myspace very often at all anymore, the new myspace app is extremely well done and something like that for digg would rock. - snek, on 07/11/2008, -0/+5Err most photo's of Gates are of him smiling or even laughing..
- mrtrik, on 07/11/2008, -0/+5Uhm... EVERY APP says version 2.0 software is a requirement (top right of app description). Do you purchase windows vista only software for your win98 box?

The internet is an awesome tool, especially if you learn how to use it. - iarenzana, on 07/11/2008, -0/+5Same here.
- drlha, on 07/11/2008, -0/+5So you want Apple to be more controlling over what can be published on the App store?
- howdog, on 07/11/2008, -1/+5I mean really, get your act together Apple. If you're going to do these synchronized product launches, DO IT RIGHT!
- jacobgduncan, on 07/11/2008, -0/+4Same here
- Aitese, on 07/11/2008, -0/+4To clarify, I give Apple utmost credit for consolidating technology very well. Nokia, in the last few weeks in some desperate bid have released basically comparable Mobile Me services for free...the catch? They're all completely separate!
Nokia Email...gives instant push email for ANY service that has imap and pop settings.
My Nokia, which backs up your contacts, calendar and notes.
Ovi share, for sharing and uploading your pictures and videos.
N-Gage, a multiplayer 3D gaming platform.
Nokia Chat...a jabber chat client that integrates into the phones contacts list.
But I need a separate login and separate apps for each one...which is where I give Apple credit and the reason they are winning the popularity vote (although Nokia still sold more N95's) - Dokkodo, on 07/11/2008, -1/+5Too bad software update 2.0 is still not available for a lot of iPod Touch users, keeping them from actually using the apps. When clicking on the update button an error says "We could not complete your iTunes Store request. The iTunes Store is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later." It even reverts back to saying that my iPod software is up to date at 1.1.4, which obviously isn't the case.
- roostersheep, on 01/16/2009, -0/+4bigDah7, I love you.
- waydee, on 07/11/2008, -7/+11How many stories do we need reporting on the same thing?
Buried as duplicate iphonespam. - willdelaney, on 07/11/2008, -2/+5What is an iTouch
iTouch's are not apple products - championchap, on 07/11/2008, -3/+6But where is the digg app!
There's a pownce app but no digg app?
WHAT THE HELL!! - skif, on 07/11/2008, -0/+3I've been trying for hours to download the 2.0 for my iTouch. Servers busy.
I did buy 7 aps last night so I should be good to go when I get home from work tonight.
I don't think Apple was prepared for the amount of traffic they are getting today. - netdroid9, on 07/11/2008, -0/+3You've never seen Gates' smile? I hear it's like a thousand beautiful sunsets, all at once.
- inactive, on 07/11/2008, -5/+8bold but not far-fetched.
- covertbadger, on 07/11/2008, -12/+15"Even the diehard, dyed in wool, Windows Mobile, Crackberry loving, Apple hating, Anti-Fanboys have got to be really envious right now."
Envious of what? A bunch of apps that I never needed before, and don't need now? - Aitese, on 07/11/2008, -13/+16Why? I'm sure that every app released for the iPhone has an equivalent app on WinMo, Blacberry and Symbian. On my n95 I have an eBay app, Skype, Tru-Phone VOIP, Shazzam music recognition, Shozu media up-loader, uTorrent remote client, uPnp remote for my PC and PS3 (that's a little known built in feature the N95 has had from day one) Google Maps, Google Mail, Google Search, Yahoo! Go, and various IM/VOIP sollutions that link me to Gtalk, MSN, Aim, ICQ and Yahoo chat...you name the task and there's an app to get it done. The problem on ALL these platforms is developers like to waste their time taking an easily accessible website and building an app that just pulls that same data. I had a Reuters widget but found it was easier just browsing to their mobile site...their full site renders perfectly in the s60 webkit browser anyway...and even better in Opera.
The only thing Apple has over all the other platforms is marketing. they've been able to convince you this is something new and you've bought it. - Berkana, on 07/11/2008, -2/+5I just looked at the apps, and to be honest, when the ridiculous apps are excluded, the number of real apps is down by a hundred or so by my estimate. Some of the most ridiculous apps: iSoroban, the abacus simulator, which costs $1.99 (whereas your iPhone has a built in calculator app), and Hold On!, a free patience building app that times how long you can bear holding on to a button on screen. Someone actually paid money to develop this app and host it in iTunes!
I'd be more impressed if they screened the applicants and eliminated the idiotic ones. - hijinksensue, on 07/11/2008, -1/+4After upgrading to firmware 2.0 I decided to keep my iPhone 1G. Its like a new phone!
http://hijinksensue.com/2008/07/11/omfggg/ - theutopian, on 07/11/2008, -1/+4You're just conforming to a different set of standards. We're all conformists, even when we say we aren't.
- Nicksname1, on 07/11/2008, -0/+3AppInstaller already have one but it's got some flaws. The one on iPhone 2.0 store looks like it will be pretty good the size is 127MB and it is said to have online multiplayer integration.
Here's a blog talking about it and has a link for download which you can run in a Dev Emulator:
http://www.gabejacobsblog.com/apple-texas-holdem-i ... - jacobgduncan, on 07/11/2008, -1/+4Itunes store is temporarily unavailable!
-getting closer- - bloominoctober, on 07/11/2008, -0/+3I'm completely pissed ... the 2.0 software downloaded, backed up my phone, prepped my phone for restore, and then I get a network error message. My phone is now just a shiny-ass paperweight. I can't even restore it. When I connect it to the computer, it gives me the same network error. Dammit!
- sg7791, on 07/11/2008, -0/+2And weren't you pissed when they told you you'd have to pay for it?
- boozedrinker, on 07/11/2008, -1/+3For those of you that have iPhones hacked with Ziphone, no worries. I downloaded it early and installed using option+click restore and had no problems. It doesn't brick you, so upgrade away!
The apps may not be free, but the phone is a LOT more stable and fast when not hacked. Not to mention the fact that the apps are quite a bit better than what was available for free on installer.... - Berkana, on 07/11/2008, -0/+2No, but they could at least offer a "order by rating" option so the lame ones sink to the bottom. Seriously, there must be something like a hundred e-books, a dozen tip calculators (most of which suck), half a dozen unit converters and currency converters, and at least four flashlight apps that do nothing but display a blank white screen, three of which I must pay for.
- Rhendal, on 07/11/2008, -0/+2I don't see how those aren't smiles...
- loudintl, on 07/11/2008, -1/+3First thing this morning, my boss waved his light saber sound effects-enabled iphone at me.
- tensider, on 07/11/2008, -0/+2n/m -- itunes was telling me that my software was up to date, but that was a damn dirty lie. i still need the 2.0 upgrade and the store is "unavailable".
way to go there, apple. what part of "ginormous multiple product launch" didn't sound like it required ramped-up server capacity? - CrazyPDA, on 07/11/2008, -0/+2I too had the same issue. I just tried again and now it says "This version of the iPod software (1.1.4) is the current version."
- Daniel591992, on 07/11/2008, -0/+2@ang: It shouldn't tell me to upgrade to 2.0 then tell me it's not available...
- directrix13, on 07/11/2008, -0/+2Yeah. Apple blows.
