- fooslayer, on 11/29/2008, -0/+15It's becoming very hard to get noticed in the store by potential customers. A friend and I just released an app (Hexy - an implementation of the board game Hex) earlier this week and it's very hard to find it since we haven't been lucky enough to be listed on any of the "top" or "new" lists that Apple has. Amazingly, it has sold a handful of copies anyway (36 in 3 days, actually), but at this rate, I don't see any millionaire dollar signs in my future. :)

- Blizaine, on 11/28/2008, -1/+12I'd be curious how many apps have been downloaded since launch. Apple said there had been 10M apps downloaded in the first weekend.

- HaSatan, on 11/29/2008, -0/+9It became self aware on August 29th.
- Visarga, on 11/29/2008, -1/+9Of course a small number of those 10K apps are notable, but in this diversity a lot of interesting approaches can be found. Interesting interactions:
- put the iphone in your mouth to play the "harmonica" - almost like the real thing
- blow into the mic to play the "ocarina"
- pinch as fast as you can to pop balloons
- play by accelerometer & orientation sensor - similar to the theremine
- speak into it - the Google app
- have it OCR a photo you just took - with Evernote
- 3D flip pages on books by a drag motion with your finger - most ebooks
- drive by orientation sensor - Super Monkey Ball
- have it listen & recognize a melody
- two finger "move & zoom" effects like in the "Minority Report"
- it puts Wikipedia & Google in a GPS device
- it puts Youtube in your pocket
Of course it doesn't (yet) iron your shirts, but wait 1 more year and who knows? - Jambi, on 11/29/2008, -0/+6Why would he do that? The iPhone's a PDA (basically) while the Zune's just a music player. That'd be like telling someone messing around with a Windows Mobile smartphone to go get an iPod classic instead. It makes no sense.
- inactive, on 11/29/2008, -3/+9still waiting for the fleshlight app
- stuartbryant, on 11/29/2008, -1/+690% of everything is crap

- mingistech, on 11/29/2008, -0/+4Out of the 10,000 apps. I have about 30 real gems installed on my phone.
NightCam - great for taking extreme low light pics.
Joost - Tons of free TV shows.
BeeJiveIM - A multi-protocol IM client. Supports all the major networks and looks awesome.
NewsStand - Great RSS reader. It's really fast and has a nice interface.
Jaadu - An awesome VNC client to log into my home system. I update my Torrents on the fly.
PdaNet - Use it to tether my Macbook for unlimited 3G surfing when there is no WiFi around.
Pandora - All the free music you can get.
MacTracker- perfect for my job as an Apple Field Engineer
Qik - A cool app for streaming video to an embedded player on a web page.
The list goes on. :) - imsobored151, on 11/28/2008, -3/+7The app store was released July 11
Not June 27. - mknphotos, on 11/29/2008, -3/+6I have 2 apps on the app store. JeoparCalc (to keep track of your score as you play along with Jeopardy) and LoveQuotes (a database of romantic quotes that you can send to your love).
Anyway, it is very difficult to get listed even on the first page of your category let alone on the top apps.
Most of the software in the app store is shovel wear created by teens as their first software project. The only apps that can be really successful are the ones produced by the big guys who then (I'm convinced) pay Apple to be on their "Hot" list. - ofenza, on 11/29/2008, -1/+4buried for spam.
- junkneo, on 11/29/2008, -0/+3How many do you really need.
- Flytrap, on 11/29/2008, -1/+4Good question.
I have personally downloaded lots of applications... too many to remember. But only about 30 of those were commercial paid for applications - with the most expensive being $26.00, if I recall. - dicer999, on 11/29/2008, -1/+4No.
- mingistech, on 11/29/2008, -0/+2There are actually about 10 flashlight apps currently on the App Store.. I just did a quick search with it.
- swimtwobirds, on 11/30/2008, -0/+2neo. ech.
- CATSCEO2, on 11/29/2008, -0/+2No, we don't care about your crappy blog.
- MtheoryX, on 11/29/2008, -0/+2Then don't buy it.
He has a right to make money from his efforts if that's what he wants to do. - Aitese, on 11/29/2008, -1/+3I'm sorry...but after having a look at your apps, they're not at all useful. Plus for limited use you're also charging.
- wizard710, on 11/29/2008, -0/+1I think this is how many apps are available to download not the number downloaded
- byukid, on 11/29/2008, -3/+4i'm sick of all the "time of the month" calendar.
- supersteve, on 11/29/2008, -1/+2this makes no sense, your an idiot
- MtheoryX, on 11/29/2008, -1/+1reported and blocked for spam.
- axelgrease, on 11/29/2008, -2/+2theres some pretty stupid apps that put up on there, but monumental none the less
- smarty29, on 11/29/2008, -2/+1Up And Down? Left And right? Is this a soft-blog?
- MrViklund, on 11/29/2008, -4/+3Don't do that. Go and buy a zune and hack that instead.
- svensksvamp, on 11/29/2008, -3/+2do you really use all those 30 apps?
- kidal25, on 11/29/2008, -5/+4I don't have an iPhone, but the number of Applications doesn't matter does it? Is this really news? If all 10,000 applications were all GREAT applications then this would be something, but I don't think all the apps are that great.
- wizard710, on 11/29/2008, -2/+1But the device does not have copy and paste
- sUGArDawg, on 11/29/2008, -5/+4Meh...i just jailbroke my iphone 3g...it's AWESOME
- 298th_Scat, on 11/29/2008, -4/+2Best comment.
- pdxdavid, on 11/30/2008, -3/+110,000 apps! Whoopee Doo! Let me know when you get 30 that are worth having on the phone.
- Jeffler, on 11/29/2008, -4/+2Half of those you mentioned are completely ***** useless
- dancornish, on 11/29/2008, -5/+2This is one of the reasons why developers are focusing on the app store. See my new blog post http://blog.cosential.com/?p=166
- junkneo, on 11/29/2008, -7/+3Apple (fan boys and iDouches included) is beginning to sound like McDonald's (e.g. 1 million burgers sold).
Who cares (except fan boys and iDouches). - MrViklund, on 11/29/2008, -7/+2What a stupid name... lol appstoreapps
- seltaeb4, on 11/29/2008, -7/+2I think it's called "iBone."
- Biggbrother2, on 11/29/2008, -9/+2I'm a G1 user personally. Lots of apps available on the Android Market. It will probably surpass Apple by the 1st Quarter of 2009. However, the Market will suffer from the same fate... quanity over quality.
- jellehenkens, on 11/29/2008, -9/+1Its easy to reach 10k apps if you count 'app updates' as 'apps' too...
