- bovox, on 09/28/2009, -7/+25Again, could someone post the links to all the users who said that the iPhone would be a complete flop 2 years ago? Seriously, because anyone who said the iPhone would fail has lost A LOT of credibility with any of their opinions today.
- fugazied, on 09/28/2009, -2/+16Here's one. Steve Balmer. Paraphrasing, but Applle iPhone is the “most expensive phone in the world” while noting that Microsoft sells “millions and millions and millions of phones a year” while “Apple sells zero.”
“I’d prefer to have our software in 60 percent or 70 percent or 80 percent of [mobile phones], than I would to have 2 percent or 3 percent, which is what Apple might get,”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C5oGaZIKYvo&fea ... - enantiodromia, on 09/28/2009, -1/+14It really sucks that Apple has provided a platform for any software developer to reach 50,000,000 users overnight. I can see why many of you are so upset about this.
- Shawn10000, on 09/28/2009, -2/+13I admit, I have found a lot of garbage apps. But there are a lot of free apps that are both entertaining, and productive. I guess the best thing to do is go with the free ones, and if there is something you want to buy, do a bit of research even if it is only a $1.99 app. That way you avoid paying for garbage.
- Rapter09, on 09/28/2009, -1/+10Don't know why you're being dugg down as of my comment; it's true.
Even an Apple fanboi has to agree: Anybody that's browsed the app store for anymore than five minutes can see that it's nothing but a wasteland of dirt with a few gems sprinkled here and there. It's fine, really - there's nothing *wrong* with having such a buffet of applications - but thanks to some shortsightedness on Apple's part it's literally absolutely *impossible* to browse the store and actually find the gems. - MacParrot, on 09/28/2009, -2/+10That would be just about all of the Apple-hating trolls typically found in any Apple posting on Digg.
They mostly just don't have the nads to admit they were wrong - spikes, on 09/28/2009, -15/+23Yet 90% of them are shovelware. There are a lot of good useful/fun apps I admit, (I spent at least $150 in apps) but they make up the minority of the whole store.
- MtheoryX, on 09/28/2009, -0/+8It's all about competition.
Now Microsoft is launching the Windows Mobile app store. Granted, they've had apps available for years and years... but they're:
1) Hard to find
2) Impossible to rate
3) Not as easy to install
Having an app store you can go to ON YOUR PHONE, and purchase/install from one place is going to be awesome.
And they wouldn't have done it if Apple didn't do it first. In many ways, Microsoft (and palm) are very much "Me too" companies... but in the end, the consumer wins with better services at better prices. - DMBmelch, on 09/28/2009, -2/+10In other news....my Apple stock breaks $186!
- MScrip, on 09/28/2009, -2/+9Yeah... like the 200 FTP applications for Windows...
- 50p000, on 09/28/2009, -21/+27All you anti-Apple guys are ***** idiots.
- MacParrot, on 09/28/2009, -1/+7You can hardly same game over when all Apple currently has is one device. The iPhone is some cool stuff for me but not everyone is going to think so (nor should they) or want to spend the kind of bucks required. There are some pretty nice phones out very well function featured for less. It isn't like the iPhone actually dominates any particular phone catagory. Heck they don't even dominate under smartphones.
Keep bringing out new phones. We all win - enantiodromia, on 09/28/2009, -0/+5That sort of makes sense, don't you think?
- roxgod666, on 09/28/2009, -5/+10These comments suck more dick than Paris Hilton.
- FredFredrickson, on 09/28/2009, -5/+9Being out of high school for almost 10 years, I can honestly say that I don't know a single prom king who went on to do anything better with their lives than becoming prom king.
- Angostura, on 09/28/2009, -3/+7Even if that's true, does it matter? Even if 'most' are garbage, that's still - what? - 40,000 that are decent? Even 10,000 or 5,000 good apps isn't something to be sneezed at.
- mrBitch, on 09/29/2009, -0/+4@ MtheoryX, RE: " .. Having an app store you can go to ON YOUR PHONE, and purchase/install from one place is going to be awesome.

All good points. - intrepidia, on 09/28/2009, -1/+5As if waiting 18 months to ensure the app was carrier grade certified by your telco of choice was any more pleasant.. J2me anyone???
- d3dm, on 09/28/2009, -0/+4"...it's literally absolutely *impossible* to browse the store and actually find the gems."
Someone should write an app for that. - McPOW, on 09/28/2009, -0/+3the vast majority. I downloaded 100+ apps on my ipod touch, deleted almost all of them and bought only 1. Probably pretty typical actually. Its pretty glaring that they don't publish how many of those apps werent immediately deleted ;)
- MtheoryX, on 09/28/2009, -0/+3Nah, it's all about twitter apps these days.
Twitter apps == The new "hello world" - FarrahForever, on 09/28/2009, -1/+4First steps to world peace.
- MtheoryX, on 09/28/2009, -1/+4Upload while you drop load.
- mrBitch, on 09/29/2009, -0/+3@ Angostura, good point.
@ FredFredrickson, RE: " .. Most of these "apps" are garbage"
Ok, let's say (for the sake of argument) that you're right, and that most of these apps are "garbage".
What is your point? - mrBitch, on 09/29/2009, -0/+3Maybe it's just tragic for you?
- rx4boredom, on 09/28/2009, -5/+8AAPL up ~1000% last 10 yrs vs. NASDAQ ~0% vs HP ~30% vs MS ~-20%
And yes these comments blow kanyerific nickelbacks.
Is everyone who follows Apple humorless freak?
Oh, wait... - MacParrot, on 09/28/2009, -2/+4Which may be why so few people know about them
- FredFredrickson, on 09/28/2009, -3/+5Through some mathematical quandary, 3 billion were deleted.
- immatellyouwhat, on 09/28/2009, -2/+4What are you talking about they clearly nickelback.

I agree, but your post could also apply to the vast wasteland of Windows software available.
See how easily your post can also apply to the Windows wasteland :

How many of the two billion were downloaded the just deleted after the user found out the application was worthless. I do this all the time with the G1.
- enantiodromia, on 09/28/2009, -3/+5It just wouldn't be an Apple related thread without FredFredrickson trolling it.
- mrBitch, on 09/29/2009, -0/+2Zing!
- mrBitch, on 09/29/2009, -0/+2Zing!
- wellyhermawan, on 10/23/2009, -0/+1apple? yes i always loves this brand .... i build my blog http://www.donatecarforcharity.org with my first apple
- inactive, on 09/28/2009, -8/+985,000 apps? Jesus, junior colleges need to stop spitting out amateur programmers, we are overloaded with them like lawyers!
- MtheoryX, on 09/28/2009, -2/+3shovelware
I don't think that term means what you think it means. - MarkyBear, on 09/29/2009, -1/+2Having multiple incompatible devices (ie: Rimm with their Blackberries) is not the way to win this game. And actually there are three iPhone devices, all using the exact same software (unlike the Blackberries.) The other players have discounted their phones (2-for-1 Blackberries; $80 Pre's at Walmart) to compete, while Apple's margins keep rising.
- MarkyBear, on 09/29/2009, -0/+1Yeah, wow. Bet he wishes now he was in Apple's position regarding smartphones.
- vitriolix, on 10/20/2009, -0/+1Um, they do know already. Just like Google and Palm also do. Welcome to centralized app stores.
- superkendall, on 09/28/2009, -1/+299% of everything is crap. That's why it's better to have 85,000 choices than half that many (or less). Are there really 85 apps that are worthwhile on any other platform?
- gregdogum, on 09/28/2009, -2/+2So, what you are saying is these comments are Apple & Nickelback?
- digg5280, on 09/28/2009, -5/+5Does this include updates? If so, I can account for a few million.
- FredFredrickson, on 09/28/2009, -2/+2Because if you don't love Apple and everything it makes, you're a troll.
Although I am personally flattered that you care so much, enantiodromia. - MarkyBear, on 09/29/2009, -1/+1Microsoft is more like down by one-half in 10 years.
- jacobkpattara, on 09/29/2009, -0/+0i guess der s an app for anything you could think off..come on-this is the phone..not your browser or ur search engine..i guess we should learn to appreciate the awesome product..
- MacParrot, on 09/29/2009, -1/+1How would Apple know whether or not an app was deleted? If they did keep track of this information how many on Digg would be screaming invasion of privacy?
I have quite a few apps (some purchased but mostly free) that after downloading decided they weren't that great so I took them off my phone. A little checkbox for each app makes it easy enough to do and I don't have to delete them. I just don't keep them on my iPhone. - inactive, on 09/28/2009, -6/+4The difference is those 200 FTP programs don't have to go through Apple for the submission process, where the hell is the quality control here?
- d3dm, on 09/28/2009, -3/+1Any software developer with a Mac, you mean.
- DelMonte, on 09/28/2009, -5/+3I'm surprised that it too that much time for bashers (i.e. people in denial) to mention fart apps.
