- startleman, on 07/29/2009, -4/+372Don't let the firestorm die down... let Apple know how you feel about their stifling of innovation:
http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
If these ***** practices aren't changed I'll be letting them know how I feel with my wallet, by NOT buying an iPhone again. - rufusisnodufus, on 07/29/2009, -2/+286Diehard Apple fan here. Long time Digg visitor, signed up for an account just to promote this issue. These practices are getting absolutely ridiculous.
I've had no problem living without all really neat applications like Qik and other bandwidth intensive stuff. I understand that AT&T's network is ***** and would literally fall apart if these apps started to be used heavily. With the whole Google Voice and Latitude rejection, as well as "unfiltered internet access" making apps qualify for 17+ ratings, I've had about enough. If Apple doesn't seriously shape up by the time my contract expires I'm going to move to Android and another provider. - FikseGTS, on 07/29/2009, -16/+258Apple plans on repeating history by controlling the iPhone Apps just as they did with the Mac OS way back when that allowed Microsoft to flourish with an inferior product.....
- CBass8282, on 07/29/2009, -12/+246Self-proclaimed Apple fanboy here and yes, this nonsense has eclipsed, "to far".
- edstate, on 07/29/2009, -15/+181And... why is it just Microsoft who's being beaten down for "monopolistic" practices?
/written on a Mac, while talking on an iPhone - indyGuy, on 07/29/2009, -10/+154Apple (and AT&T), you've lost a customer. Was going to buy my iPhone next month.
***** THAT. AND YOU. - mobilehavoc, on 07/29/2009, -7/+124Jailbreak?
- DigitalD, on 07/29/2009, -4/+109As much as I love my iPhone, I think I'll be rolling with Android for my next smartphone. This is getting stupid, I really wanted latitude on my iPhone.
- phorofor, on 07/29/2009, -3/+92*too
Fixed. - Hockey37, on 07/29/2009, -9/+79Terrorist.
- brianzbl, on 07/29/2009, -2/+72Agreed. feedback sent.
- rmacnguyen, on 07/29/2009, -2/+71For those who don't know, GV Mobile (the non-official Google Voice app that was recently pulled) is now free on Cydia. Suck it AppleT&T.

And if you haven't jailbroken your phone yet, see this page: http://blog.iphone-dev.org/post/137214493/whats-ol ... - SkoGoody, on 07/29/2009, -4/+69My question is this... WHY do you people, especially techies, continue to buy apple products when YOU KNOW THIS IS HOW APPLE OPERATES?!?!?!?
Seriously, to think bitching about it on a blog is going to change anything is laughable at best. I had the original iPhone, and yes, I will agree 100% that it's the most elegant/advanced/user friendly "smart" phone I've used. Having said that, the company that controls it is a steaming pile of nazi *****! And you all know this... yet you continue to buy their products and support them. Only to later bitch about what you already knew would happen. Apple does not like innovation unless it comes from them so they can control it and you.
Android is where sanctuary lies. After about the 4th or 5th time jailbreaking my iPhone, I swore up and down that I had enough of apple and its nazi ways. I sold it on craigslist and moved onto the G1. I haven't looked back since. Not once have I regretted that decision. Yes, the iPhone is beautiful piece of tech. But what good is the tech if the OS on it is only for people who need things spoon fed to them like an iBaby?
Do yourselves a favor. Sell your iPhones... and go to Android. You will thank me when you never ever have to worry about jailbreaking your phone everytime a new OS is released. - yocouchdigga, on 07/29/2009, -9/+66Android's where it's at. You'll crossover eventually... mark these words.
- inactive, on 07/29/2009, -14/+70lol you're being buried for the truth man. the bury brigade apparently doesn't know history.
- Hota, on 07/29/2009, -3/+55Oh, the irony of Apple's "1984" commercial.
- DigitalisAkujin, on 07/29/2009, -3/+53Buy an Android phone.
- krisrm, on 07/29/2009, -5/+51... and now the Android Marketplace looks incredible: no ridiculous censorship, it's not the single-source of apps (so even if your app was flat-out rejected for whatever reason, you could still market it on the side without having to go through questionable channels), marginally lower developer fees, no Objective-C, and some truly great handsets from HTC, Sony-Ericsson and Samsung hitting the markets soon, at least a couple of which are sure to take off.
- deadsoldier, on 07/29/2009, -6/+49Omg Apple.. get a ***** life. Seriously.
This is exactly the reason i dont have an iPhone. I think they rock, but Apple+AT&T cripple them to the point where i think to myself "***** it, il get something with android instead then" - rcarroll215, on 07/29/2009, -2/+45you'll break the towers....
- yocouchdigga, on 07/29/2009, -7/+46I knew you iFans would see the beauty of Android eventually. I doubt this is the nail in the coffin but it's surely not far off. Android, FTW!
- indyGuy, on 07/29/2009, -4/+41And dug for "*****". Cause it is.
- motivatedguy, on 07/29/2009, -3/+39I'm gonna jailbreak my iPhone now. ***** this *****.
- cards, on 07/29/2009, -0/+36Here's the feedback I submitted:
I'm writing to let you know that I as a customer I am disgusted with your App Store approval process. As consumers, we were sold on an App Store where apps needed to be approved in order to ensure the security of our devices. Since then, it has been proven time and again that you are using this process to cripple the device, stifle innovation, and avoid competition. The latest example is of course the exclusion of Google Voice apps and Google Latitude. These apps in no way present a security risk. They also don't put an unreasonable burden on data networks or allow voice calls over the 3G/EDGE networks. Their exclusion is anti-competitive practice, plain and simple. While I think the iPhone is an excellent product, I can no longer recommend it to friends, family, or coworkers due to the crippling effects of your approval process. I hope to see this process become more fair and transparent so I can once again proudly say that the iPhone is the best smartphone on the market. - unknownzero, on 07/29/2009, -1/+36dude i dont even have an iphone and im pissed
- plainOldFool, on 07/29/2009, -1/+36Point of clarification: A judge *ruled* Microsoft is a monopoly. No court has defined Apple as a monopoly. However that does not mean that Apple could not be defined as a monopoly in the future.
- dggoldst, on 07/29/2009, -2/+36Dear Apple,
It's 2009 and people demand openness.
There's no undo for that. - AhrenBa, on 07/29/2009, -5/+39Yeah, it's beginning to enter "this is *****" territory now. Not only is there a huge time delay to approve every damn app, but the rejection of some incredibly useful apps is a little much. Apple is being too picky with choosing what goes through. I understand that there are concerns such as the app's content and battery usage, etc, but it's gone a little far. Either revamp the app approval system, or get rid of it completely, Apple. Don't think that I am bashing Apple here. I think the company is fantastic. I have a MacBook and an iPod Touch, but I am not so blinded to see that there is something wrong going on here.
- arrow85, on 07/29/2009, -8/+35as a avid user of both the iphone and the mac. I have to say that i am more than appauled at how apple had done developers. I considered becoming a real dev for the app store. I gave that up real fast. I honestly think that it is all ATT here. That is no excuse. they do not remove apps off your mac they do not limit your install on a mac. This sort of crap has to stop. i bought into an iphone cause i love the features the apps. I hate the service. The service is ATT and it can go fly into the sun and die. I think ATT has done everything in there power to wring as much cash out of this as they can. They are not improving there network fast enough to keep up with over sold demand. They are enjoying a healthy profit. I think it is time people vote with there wallets. If this keeps up my next phone with be a PRE back on the verizon mafia racket.

- volumecontrol, on 07/29/2009, -9/+34Digg is hilarious: championing the self-regulating abilities of the free market one day, and getting upset with AT&T for stopping an obviously competitive product which requires the use of their wireless infrastructure (which they have control of) the next.
cognitive dissonance, anyone? - superm401, on 07/29/2009, -4/+26The process was always unnecessary and an abuse of power. But now, Apple has gone so far they've pissed off even loyal customers. The pendulum is swinging back.
- gutterboy, on 07/29/2009, -3/+24Just sent this:
The rejection of highly useful, legitimate 3rd party apps is concerning and offensive. Google Voice Mobile is a far superior application then the built in Apple voice control on the 3GS. If this hindrance of progress due to Apple's draconian approval process continues, I will be forced to abandon your product line entirely.
I understand the desire for Apple to keep consumers in their "universe" so they are forced to purchase content and hardware continuously. It is good business practice and something I honestly don't care about. However, when another company has an application to offer that provides a much needed service on your devices, the blind rejection from Apple crosses the line from good business practices to ***** over the consumer.
We lubed up our wallets for years and allowed you to have your way with them, but from a company that prides itself on innovation, you look like Orwellian control freaks at this point. Stop being such pricks with the App Store approval process. You are ruining a good thing.
P.S. You do realize this is only going to force more and more people to Jailbreak right? As we all just recently found out, that apparently breeds terrorists. - 49CentTacos, on 07/29/2009, -3/+23Gizmodo always seems to be able to take exactly what I'm thinking and put it out there in the world, in a way that's much more smarter and coherent than I ever could; I guess that's why I admire them.
It feels weird admiring bloggers. It really does. - r00fus, on 07/29/2009, -0/+19Feedback sent. I included my appleid, tied to my many AppStore purchases (if they want they can also figure out I own a 3GS and have had a 2G since 07).
This ***** needs to stop, I don't care if ATT pulls strings, we need to pull harder the opposite direction. - buddyman4652, on 07/29/2009, -3/+22dude i agree wholeheartedly, but dayum, can you please proofread your post?! your terrible grammar and spelling is GLARING
- mark925, on 07/29/2009, -1/+20As much as I like Apple, it's for this reason (and that they went with AT&T) that I did not and will not buy an iPhone.
I'm very happy over on the Android side of the fence. - Myztry, on 07/30/2009, -0/+17Shrek went to far far away...
- sfasu77, on 07/29/2009, -7/+24Get the pre... it's kickass
- chesterjosiah, on 07/29/2009, -1/+18I'm ditching Apple and going to Android with this:
http://phandroid.com/2009/06/16/huawei-u8230-andro ... - Chakat, on 07/30/2009, -0/+16Hence why the comparison was to Apple's 1984 commercial, not to the book 1984.
- mbezjak, on 07/30/2009, -0/+16That is as useful as an Albanian sheppard allergic to wool.
- roomaustin, on 07/29/2009, -6/+22Gone to far? Pretty predictable if you ask me.
- ibic, on 07/30/2009, -0/+16Yeah, ***** them hard!
- enrq, on 07/30/2009, -4/+19far + far = two far
which is also too far but nothing's to far - schoate09, on 07/30/2009, -1/+16I like the arguments and points you made, gutterboy. However, I fear the use of profanity may detract the readers attention, and unnecessarily invalidate the point.
- Clark, on 07/29/2009, -4/+19http://appstrike.squarespace.com
I'm trying to get this going - I've submitted it everywhere. - inactive, on 07/30/2009, -0/+15you dont apply to anything
- sdipaola, on 07/29/2009, -1/+16no it is not - blaming att is an easy thing to do and theydo suck - but itunes decisions are for 100s of carriers not just the us carrier and are therefore apple's decision
- superkendall, on 07/29/2009, -9/+24It's absurd - but it's also AT&T at work here.
