All I have to say is - It doesn't matter how excited an Apple rep, might be about a potential product for the app store. READ THE REQUIREMENTS of approval!!!

Golden Axe for iPhone, which is exactly the same as what Manomio submitted : An emulated game. Golden Axe runs as much "foreign executable" than Manomio's emu.
Epic Inconsistency.

No, you actually DO own your iPhone. What you DON'T own is the App Store. Apple does, and if they don't want to publish an App, they don't have to. - evanfrey, on 06/21/2009, -1/+9Not true, the clause states an app may not launch external code. Being able to boot "c64 disks" is booting code outside of the app. The Golden Ax example is coded for the iphone, not booting external code. Fail still stands.
- thinkdifferent, on 06/21/2009, -2/+9The guidelines for the App Store describes an emulator which would run outside code. Thus, think about a JVM to run java apps, wouldn't be valid. If the application you are submitting itself uses code written for another platform & then emulates that hardware, but doesn't allow running other programs with it, you should be fine.

Are the Golden Ax and Sonic games created with a Sega Genesis emulator or were they just recoded for the iPhone? Since I'm not a programmer (nor do I play one on TV) I have no idea one way or another. I couldn't find any proof googling it. - MacParrot, on 06/21/2009, -0/+7The Commodore company as a whole died because of very poor management. The C64 (while cool in its own right), was NOT the best thing this company produced. The Amiga OS had many features that neither Apple or Microsoft had in their respective operating systems and was essentially using the same hardware as the Mac.
If their management had had any skills, we might all be screaming at Amiga fanboys instead. - DemDude, on 06/21/2009, -1/+7The emulator isn't the problem - the emulators cloudberries mentioned contain the emulated material in the app itself, while the one the article is about would have to load it from somewhere else on the phone. They can't inlcude the games in the app because that would be a copyright violation.
Loading data from "outside" the app isn't allowed in the Developer Agreement, however. Thus, it won't get into the App Store. I guess this didn't come as much of a surprise for the developers... - kleon777, on 06/21/2009, -4/+10I read the whole article, and it seems to me that they did have a reason to object, and it's a reason that the developers already anticipated. It sucks that they went through all that hard work, but they shouldn't be too surprised. They were just crossing their fingers hoping Apple would overlook one of their rules.
