- Twoodge, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20It's for the whole of CS3, not just Photoshop.
edit: Think I was beaten to it, silly me. - geoken, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20He's just pointing out an innacuracy in the title.
- hotdamn, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17You obviously don't know what rosetta is.
given your savvyness, you dont even deserve that kind of a machine ;) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16It's not just for Photoshop. It's for Creative Suite 3.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Hyperex, CS2 was for PPC mac, so was office. Your Intel mac had to emulate to PPC Architecture, making Office and CS2 slow. Now, the new CS3 and Office will be Intel native, allowing them to run much, much faster. Try getting the CS3 Beta, free for all CS2 owners.
- pixelate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7one N, two C's.
inaccurate. (inaccuracy.)
sorry =D - toughice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Plugging your own stuff on your own website isn't exactly shameless.
- merr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6If you have an Intel Mac, it is most definitely worth upgrading.
- dasrore, on 10/12/2007, -7/+12Yep, better make a generic pointless comment at the top of the story to get more diggs for yourself.
- lasombragh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6... What?
- lasombragh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I'm with merr on this one. Even the CS3 beta smokes CS2 since it isn't bogged by Rosetta.
- Ramble, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4More like half the page was for CS3 and the rest was pimping it's other products.
- serpicolugnut, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5it's not just for Photoshop, but for the entire Creative Suite. Actually, that's not entirely true... It's for the Design and Web versions of the Creative Suite 3. Notice that Apple isn't advertising the Adobe Creative Suite Production Premium bundle? I guess Apple doesn't want to highlight the apps that Adobe makes that directly compete with the Final Cut Suite.
- TheSeraph, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Pre-order ALSO available for Windows.
Sweet! - pglowiak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's also a LOT of money, too. I checked the Adobe site yesterday when it was released, and WOW!
My question is are the new features worth upgrading from CS2? - jonnyq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3the way I understood it, it's the first release that mixes in the old macromedia products making them communicate with each either, meaning that graphics from PS will be easier to port to Flash.
I think it's odd to see Fireworks will in the mix, since Fireworks is just a mix of Illustrator and Photoshop with bits of each. I guess Fireworks has its audience - web developers like me - while the other products are geared toward the hardcore designers. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Read my above comment please! The Adobe CS2 was PPC native, so Intel macs ran it slowly. This new one (CS3) is Intel and PPC native, so it will run lightning fast.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4My point exactly - the Mac can't be criticized!
- Lodus411, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9Funny how it doesn't include the Production Suite or Premiere Pro on MAC. I guess they can't because of the competition with Final Cut Studio.
- pikegizzle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's a little costly, but creative agencies love it. This isn't necessarily for folks that want to play with their 2mp pix.
- geoken, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The reason it says that is because you're on the Apple site and they're talking about the Apple version which is obviously "built for OS X". Do you expect it to say that it functions equally whether you use it on OS X or Windows?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What killer feature are you waiting for?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@meshman
I hope that was a joke, but if not, rest assured that CS3 will run just fine under Windows. Even on non-Intel based PCs. - imikedaman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"With the unprecedented integrated between the applications that comprise Creative Suite 3"
Swing and a miss. - blackjack75, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"I would have to admit that Apples marketing department is starting to tread the line of *****."
Yeah, they "kinda started". - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If they offered a feature that kept kids off your lawn would you upgrade?
- uownedge, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2It's Apple's website. They can put whatever they want on it. You don't think Adobe, or even Microsoft would do the same?
"Optimized for Intel" indicates that the Mac version of the software is built to perform the best on the Intel based Macs, as opposed to the PPC Macs. - uownedge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yep, versions for each OS were compiled and optimized for each OS. It'll run fine on Windows.
- ngmcs8203, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The increased efficiency in work flow and production makes it worth it to a lot of people, but not necessarily everyone. Personally, there are enough new features for me to justify writing off the Web suite and of few of the other products. I really don't see myself using any of the 3D tools in Photoshop Extended too much. Dreamweaver's enhancements, however, will be awesome.
- jackwaters, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think that elements is universal in the Master collection.....
- uownedge, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Maybe it depends on the system configuration, but on my Mac, most apps run faster (native apps, that is). Check to make sure you're running the Universal build of Firefox, and not an older PPC build. Even on the highest end Macs, you'd be surprised at what a difference it makes.
On that note, I'm stoked about CS3. I haven't been very much into the Adobe creative software in the last couple of years, but having experienced the betas for the CS3 apps, I'm really starting to take an interest in it again. Adobe has made huge improvements performance wise, and CS3 crushes previous installments of the CS package, even on PPC systems. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You should be happy you haven't had to upgrade in 9 years.
- etandrib, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1We'll upgrade to it for the native intel support but I sure hope I can at least have the vertical and horizontal scroll be the same in all of Adobe's applications! They shout about the big things but screw up the consistency factor across applications.
- uownedge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@jonnyq
Agreed on Fireworks. I'm glad they've opted to keep it going though. Personally, I find Fireworks a much more effective tool for actually creating a site layout, while Photoshop is easier to use for graphic design and editing. They are definitely both excellent tools that can work well together. - ronaldpoi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Damn, i really need a spelling checker on Safari =/
- nify, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Very useful. I swear i saw it on freshmeat or somewhere else.
- crthomas42, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Why is it that any time a change is made to the apple website it hits the front page?
- etandrib, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I thought it was funny they only gave a few paragraphs about CS3. The top image, the top right sidebar, and the entire bottom is promoting the Mac Pro and OS X. Hmm… Maybe they aren't promoting Adobe to get them more sales but promoting their hardware… duhh. They want hardware sales from Adobe's CS3.
- nutznboltz2003, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6Actually, they do have the Production Suite and Premiere Pro for the Macintosh. You can find info about Premiere here:
http://www.adobe.com/products/premiere/systemreqs/
The reason Apple itself is not likely promoting it is because the other Suites and products (like Premiere, and the Master/Production Suite) only run on the Intel based Mac, and not the PPC Macs. Apple is only promoting the Universal Binary versions on their site, but don't worry, for those with Intel Macs, you will be able to run everything except Adobe Ultra and Adobe On Location (as stated here http://www.adobe.com/products/creativesuite/) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Interesting, but how is this this page better than other Photoshop CS3 pages? There were other stories about CS3 with more information, but they didn't receive as many diggs as this one. Am I missing something?
This page has more information:
http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/index.html - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"If they offered a feature that kept kids off your lawn would you upgrade?"
Hell yeah...at least that would be something new. And I don't know why you assume I'm over 50yrs old...dumbass. - FernNYC, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2@Jiveturk3y, your joking right? for my production team, this upgrade is going to speed things up. Once we upgraded our hardware we waited for month's for adobe to get there software up to speed and the day has came (well late April that is).
- osymoron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That's great. Any chance of a Universal (or Intel-only) Dual-Processor-optimized version of Elements some time soon? CS3 is more than I need for my 2MP snaps...
- Topher06, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Just love how Apple has to plug their own software promoting someone elses, like you can't be productive with Photoshop if you don't have iPhoto, or sync with iCal, or use iChatAV or use an AddressBook, and heaven's know every graphics designer needs iPod connectivity.
And I didn't know OS X knows how to spring out of my way when using CS, from Apple's own screenshot, looks like the Dock stays right there and you can see through CS to the OS X desktop along. All this distracts you from using the application you actually want to use because OS X kind of doesn't know when to get out of the way. I hate applications that a just a bunch of floating windows on my desktop, just put them all into one windows that I can maximize (i.e. HIDE the OS) or minimize (Use the OS).
Also, when is Apple going to realize that the whole "Optimized for Intel" pretty much means that the PC world gets the same level of performance. - catmistake, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0The lack of backwards compatibility alone makes the upgrade worth it! And if you don't upgrade, you can kiss that sweet $400 upgrade path to CS4 next summer goodbye!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I'm not talking about optimization of code to run on newer intel macs... I'm talking about actual features. There hasn't been any show-stopping features in PS since version 5. If you have the newer macs, it makes sense to buy it... but anyone with a mac that's over a 1 1/2 year old..it not worth rushing out to get the latest and greatest.
- stegdump, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Yeah, I wanna see if Apple.com will ever mention Production Studio, which is in DIRECT competition to the Final Cut Studio. That would show that Apple has some seriously big apples.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I'll upgrade PS when it has something new in it.. why pay money for stuff you don't need.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0@ ryanissuper --- Any feature that's usuable and help reduce workflow.
PS2 - PS5 gave me channels, layers, and actions... since then, nothing really amazing. Heal Brush? (zzzzz...) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1I would have to admit that Apples marketing department is starting to tread the line of *****.
