- flamingmb, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15I like the idea of being about to add a soundmixer or keyboard onto a laptop.
- Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Will reserve my final judgement until I see the finished product.
- drlha, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Its not similar at all.
- sych0, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8I'm sure the Atari 2600 controller will get a lot of use
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Here's the full patent:

Filed May, 2005 - felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3That's funny, I'm using the multi-touch trackpad on my MacBook right now - that one was first revealed in a patent filing...
- felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Ryosen - do you understand the difference between graphics on a screen and actual physical objects? That's the difference between this and your magic programmable remote.
- C0MF0RTABLYnumb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3You can buy a refurbished iPod 30GB for just 180 bucks. You can't tell the difference and it comes with a one year warranty.
- C0MF0RTABLYnumb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yea from Apple, go to the Apple store and just click on the "looking for a great deal?" pic on the bottom right (it has a red tag).

- johnham, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2From Apple? I've been holding out for an 80GB but good god at that price I don't know if I can resist.
EDIT: Oh my god the Apple store is down.
My Apple sense is tingling. - ThatsUnpossible, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2How the ***** is it Apple's fault that non-Apple people are hyping it? Apple doesn't hype their unreleased products, they just release them when they're finished with them. They even lawyer up to get people to not release info, because they seem to love trying to surprise the market.

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6How many posts have been on the front page in the last year or os that predict an Apple product based solely on a patent filing?
A couple dozen at least.
How many of htem have come to fruition?
ZERO. - DrunkMonk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3UK and US stores are still down.
- brentzilla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh come on carapi, everyone knows that digg users' spelling is "rediculous".
- pathy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Would the keyboard be... kinda like this?
http://www.ergodex.com/content.php?id=14 - kiddailey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Bear with me... but I think this kinda sucks actually. If I want to use my iPod for a variety of tasks, this means that I'll have to carry multiple "button sets" to switch between them.
In that sense, all I can think of is the old joystick add-ons for the original GameBoy, which were really more trouble than they was worth.
Hopefully, the interfaces on the device are usable without the add-ons. - Ryosen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@felchdonkey
Yes, I understand the difference. What eluded me was actually reading the article. My bad. - KSUdesigner, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3How many patents from any company come to fruition within a year? Pretty close to zero.
- webcrumb, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Last time I mentioned this I got buried so badly I thought I'd end up in Australia. Apparently you can't mention that there's something subjectively better than an iPod.
And I'd have to agree... not only can you play games and browse the net but you can also wirelessly share music without play limits... and people want to hack the Zune to do the same thing. - Wolfman~K, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1very cool concept, I don't care if it gets pantened or not... I just want the ability to snap in a music keyboard...
- richardathome, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sounds like LCARS to me...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lcars - betseyjohnson, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0I will also go for ruferbished one.
If Your Child is Surfing Too Much, You Should Pay Attention - bysubmitted, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Bah humbug... this was done years ago!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intellivision - webcrumb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Call it the Duplo. Or Duplay.
- haveacigar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1lego should make an mp3 player
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Oh, I was disappointed. I was thinking that a big touchscreen would be the bottom (where the key board was) and then you could add "peripherals" as you would software. Say you like some crazy key board, just make it! Or wish you had hot keys to do stuff, just drag it in. Say you want a different kind of mouse, download it. Or for a video game/program, your entire pallet would change to fit your needs (like in unreal tournament, you'd have weapons buttons, or in a music player, you'd have eq sliders. That'd be cool.
- rasterbator, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4Don't forget it can be used as a remote control in the living room.
- johnham, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3I just want something new released so I can try to pick up a current gen iPod on the cheap.
I don't need any crazy *****, just a music player, honestly, and I have a huge boner for the scrollwheel. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3execatly. My palm treo 700 is so cool. I get to listen all music I want. Type my SA, connect to M$ windowz via bluefang, whocares about ipot.
- uownedge, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Definitely sounds interesting, although I'm not sure how I'd feel about having to carry around the extra modules to use each different function. However, what would be really cool, is if instead of physical devices, they can be displayed right on the blank pad by the device. Select the mode you want (iPod, phone, etc), and it would display the appropriate controls, which of course would then be touch sensitive. That would be pretty slick.
It seems to me I've seen a similar thing done with some fancy universal remote controls, or something along those lines. - emorphien, on 10/12/2007, -11/+9that looks awkward
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3I was thinking more along the lines of the OLED keyboard. http://www.artlebedev.com/everything/optimus/
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Now if apple would patent an all automatic baby-diaper changing station, that would be the killer product of the century. We are talking about million babies in the world.
No more getting your hands dirty trying to wipe your dirty baby, the Newely made IPOT baby station is designed to take care of your babies diapers, cleaning, and pampering. It works in 4 easy steps
1. Put in your baby into the IPOT station, The automatic vacuum takes the dirty diapers off, dumps them into a waste basket beneath.
2. Then the sprinkler system turns on and cleans the baby only waste down, soap rinse, blow dry, and powder applied for better smell.
3. Air massage is then given to relax the tense baby
4. New diapers gets fastened on the baby
and whola! Baby is dry clean smells good. - steelmaverick, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3You know, just because a company files a patent for a product doesn't necessarily mean that they are going to incorporate it. Its just a thought the company had.
Like the Sony BluRay fiasco where supposedly you wouldn't be able to buy used games. They just patented the tech, doesn't mean they would use it. - thomashallock, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1From the looks of that 1G iPod controller, I'd guess this patent was drawn up circa 2001... I can't find a link to the original patent though, so who knows?
- jgreene777, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3or maybe a touch screen like the DS... then you could use the interface to change it from a keyboard to a drawing surface or a piano keyboard or guitar strings or a man in a boat.... then whatever is on the top screen reacts to the tools on the bottom screen.
- danielwsmithee, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Except for a keyboard needs that touch feedback. Maybe if they made it slightly shock your finger when you pressed the button J/K.
For me a lot depends upon how these are mounted into the case or tray. For example if they magnetically held themselves in place they could be kind of cool. Of course they would need to find a way for me to bring these along without loosing them. - millixaw, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I think Apple is taking this "no-button mouse" concept a little too far...
- richardtallent, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0This *has* been done before, and now I'm racking my brain to try to remember the details. I remember, at the very least, a joystick that sits on top of a keyboard.
- Blackforge, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Sony Ericsson has been doing this for a few years now with their P Series PDA/Smartphones

- DrunkMonk, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Just thought I'd point out the apple store seems to be down.
- FiveIron, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1is that two mouse buttons on an apple laptop?:o, lol
- cpbrown, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1if it was - it isn't now.
think mb were just puting their xmas promos up. - rollercoaster37, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4LOVE.
One could have so much fun with that: ergonomic keyboard insert, Dvorak keyboards for the masses. So much fun! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Just keep them tight. No need to LOOSe them. (Seriously...that is like a 2nd grade level spelling word!)
