Thanks. - MisterCookie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Pity it will take down half of the world with it.
- tcammack, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Yay! I hope it comes out by next June. Then again, it probably wont matter because im contracted with the one company that decides to cripple any useful features on the phone. Verizon. *sigh*
- FunkyWitDaSysTm, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10of course they are. because they said they weren't. most of the time, when apple says they're not doing something or developing some new feature/product, a *wink-wink* is implied. after enough time goes by (or sometimes to head a runaway rumor off at the pass), they'll usually start leaking info and making vague references to what they're thinking, then on to public market analysis in its press statements, then to the hinting of a 'new horizon' of whatever, then silence for jsut long enough to build the suspense. then, finally, a launch event is planned, more rumors & pics leaked (this time prolly more accurate speculation).
after this gruelling process emerges a product/service that either is close to what the rumors have been saying for months, or EXACLTY what the rumors have been saying for months. - philomatic, on 02/08/2009, -0/+4I don't really care about a phone that plays MP3's. I'd rather have a normal phone designed by apple.

You should discover history and read about hitler... you would really like his ideas...
no, seriously... - gage006, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Now let us pray for both a GSM and CDMA version.
- compu73rg33k, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Haxor I seriously hope you were joking...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2CDMA is not worth bothering with. Countries such as Australia are retiring it in favor of UMTS (WCDMA).
Apple would do well to just support GSM/UMTS/HSDPA as a quad band device. No need for Verizon/Sprint CDMA, after all, it's unlikely that Verizon / Sprint would allow them on their network. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'd prefer a GSM version so I could switch to Cingular. When comparing samsung phones, CDMA gets 1.5-2.5 less hours of talk-time than their GSM counterpart.
Plus, I'd prefer to get the latest phone from the U.K. (where competition is better since phones aren't tied directly to the provider) and activate it here on a GSM network. More expensive, but you're ~2 years ahead of the curve. - Quix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I agree. Why can't anyone make a decent phone? I don't give a rip about cameras, ring tones, all that crap. Give me a well-designed phone that syncs with my computer via Bluetooth, is readable in sunlight, and has decent reception. Is that so hard? My Sony T610 is the biggest POS ever, but I can't find a decent phone to replace it with. Seems like every phone on the market has one major drawback or another. All I want is a phone that Just Works.
We're counting on you, Apple. - maximile, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Absolutely... I'd prefer that they just get the interface right. I'm pretty sure they will.
I used to be against cameras in phones, too, but I can imagine they could do some cool stuff by having iSight built in. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1probably be an MVNO by year end. This is at least what I hear. Don't know who with though. Probably Cingular since they have the HSDPA network. Sprint are normally the "ghetto" MVNO provider but I doubt apple is bothering with CDMA
- dohidied, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So, have there been any rumors as to which cell company Apple would sell the iPhone through? Has there been speculation that Apple might sell cellular service itself?
- methodshop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This should serve as a clear indication that Apple is indeed working on the iPhone. It is now a matter of when Apple will officially confirm the project and even release a timeframe for the device.
- mindsnare, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1correct CDMA is about as useful as a ...... well I can't think of a comparison but it's useless. it's all about UTMS
- voipdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I just got my Mac up and running with a softphone program that is running on Http://www.voicestick.com
I looked all over for a Mac softphone and this software and service work just fine.
Plus they have a cell bridge that allows me to use my cell phone with VOIP. I have Sprint with Sprint to home and I made this my home number, so I no longer use up ANY Sprint plan minutes.
This is my work around - bigdaftdave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1me too. I've been hanging onto this piece of ***** nokia for more than 2 years now, watching all the apple phone rumors thinking "I'm not going to get a new one, cos the apple phone is coming...." but it never does. i could have had 2 free new phones in the time.
A blind and deaf horse could design a better phone than any of the current phone manufacturers. - overbyte, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1the only peole that regularly use a phones built-in mp3 player are bloody kids on the bus with their damn hippety hops
- paulmdx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Not sure why this was modded down - he has a point.
And let's be honest - it's a LOT easier for a phone manufacturer to add iPod functionality than it is for Apple to add phone functionality. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5"As regards cell phones, we don't think that the phones that are available today make the best music players."
Man, he *really* needs to see the mobile phones in Japan and Korea. Even the older ones. They already far, far exceed the abilities of a simple iPod as far as music goes. Download music over the network *of course*... Not to mention video, digital TV etc... sheesh. Talk about parochial. - canewediggit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0take the following for what it is worth.
i am currently working on a rfp for a major cell provider (due to non disclosure agreement i can't say which). along with inquiring about other cell providers and equipment manufacturers my firm has worked with, they wanted to know specifically, and this was the only company asked for by name, if we had worked with apple in the last 3 years.......... - tobias1482, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I agree about phones playing music. To me it would be nothing more than a rarely used feature.
I use my phone a lot. I also don't have a home phone. My phone's battery running down is actually a huge inconvenience. Why would I want to run it down listening to music? - refreshments, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Shhh.... We aren't supposed to talk about our crappy economy... because... uh...
GAY MARRIAGE! Eek! We have to do something about that... and... yes.. the economy... is bad... yes... oh... look over there... FLAG BURNING!!! AH!!!
Distractions keep America running smoothly into that happy hole in the ground.
Don't you all love the fact that one of Enron's chief execs died in his VACATION HOME. I better end this before I start talking about Net Neutrality.
If you give an activist a soapbox... - greenreefer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0VOIP based ApplePhone gadget seems like a no brainer.
I don't get why folks pay so much for the limited functionality of the iPod. So what do I know.
Jobs is on record saying that is what folks like, so one might expect a seperate device.
But if a tempting phone/service/mp3 player is offered, lots of folks who already have an iPod would go get it.
The chance here is huge.
Nobody is really dominating at combining home/cell
phone. Both for the price of one could snag 50 million users in about fourteen minutes.
50 million times 20-40 bux a month is well, lots.
billions per month. With B's.
Forever.
Very Bigtime.
Simple solvable Problems are, minimal buttons, ease of use, not so simple is battery life. Car/usb/firewire charger would help.
To set it up, and maintain the iPods thing
add only One extra button
to select phone/tunes.
dial tone comes up,
On screen display switches to layout mimicking the familiar standard of cell phones.
Up down left right around via the scroll, center button enter, button on side shuts off phone, ends call.
a save incoming # and phone# list.
More extensive info, names all that could be entered via saving caller ID info, or an ApplePhone interface with the computer. Could even use pics for that, scroll list of pics, enter to call em.
Basically it could be done with the existing buttons/look.
Battery life. seems like the big red flag.
But an ApplePhone, callanyone, anywhere, anytime?
Crazy money. Crazy not to go for it. Folks Hate the phone companies, they would die to get this, at a fair price. Jobs could finally call Bill and ask him if he needs a loan or anything.
Heh.

Sheesh. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -12/+8Technology is changing so fast, too bad the U.S. will go bankrupt in about 8 years due to the budget deficit and the whole economy will go down the toilet.
- OrangeTide, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2You aren't sitting around doing nothing, you're busy making excuses.
