Apple may announce iPod with integrated Satellite Radio capabilities
news.softpedia.com — Some of the earlier reports described the device as an “iPod radio” which does suggest that Apple might have integrated satellite radio capabilities into the device. This doesn't seem too far fetched considering that there have been negotiations between Apple and Sirius Satellite Radio over the past year...

- Grodius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I hope so, but wouldn't people have to pay subscription fees?
- Grandfinale1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm in as long as I don't have to pay a subscription fee.
- Valiss, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Howard Stern on the go? Oh my!
- themulf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It would, of course. This sucks i just got the Video. Good thing they have good resell value (adhoc inscription)
- daze, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0of course there would be a subrscription fee -- as that is the entire business model for the satellite radio companies (both xm and sirius). i would get this just to listen to stern on the go.
- e3mw, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Paying the subscription fee isn't that bad, I've been a subscriber to Sirius for 3 years now and it's 100% worth every penny. I really hope this is true, but I have my doubts that Apple would jump headfirst into something like this. This would be great for Sirius, as they have been looking to find something to compete with XM's MyFi -- But I still have my doubts that either company is ready for a device like the "iPod Radio."
- millerto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This would be sweet. I just got the Sirius S50 and it kinda sucks.
- e3mw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah I've only heard negative things about the S50 - I'm staying clear of it.
- kevbryant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Just bought my video a month ago, if this doesn't wait AT LEAST six months- Steve Jobs might just be running around trying to avoid MURDER from a bunch of his customers. Constant innovation is great, but the market cannot withstand this much frequent change in product, too many people buy one, then a new one comes out, eventually, they're not going to sell.
- teamparadox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Ook...damnit lol
I just bought an ipod video and my girlfriend got me a Sirius for Christmas - windsurf7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I really don't think so. But just in case Google the SNL Steve Jobs video skit :)
- bsharitt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've been wondering when Apple was going to go further into consumer electronics, maybe 2006 is the year. The iPod and Mac can only take them so far, and demand will eventually peak, so a more diversified product line would be helpful. While Sony is trying to get its PC unit to emulate Apple, Apple may be making its CE unit look more like Sony.
- chevyorange, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I just bought a 5G for my wife for Christmas - and we have Sirius (for Stern) and I'd buy the first iPod Sirius out of Red China! :P
- izek13, on 10/20/2007, -0/+0Am telling you men chainis staff breack easly it's *****.
- archrivalnotyou, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I SERIOUSLY doubt this will happen as Steve has bowed out of numerous meeting and attempts by both XM and Sirius to discuss a partnership. Adding a Satellite function would cannibalize their iTunes store - it doesn't make business sense.
On the flip side of the coin, Apple could offer a slight discount to any Sirius listener in hopes that Sirius listeners heard it on Sirius and then came to buy it. - PSUstoekl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I WOULD SO GET ONE! holy *****.
- yensed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ever year there is at least 2 stories about "iPod + XM" and its all never true. Even so, i'm waiting for a ipod with a Big sceen.
- AdamD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0nice
- jasontho, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm sure. This rumor was out last year also and nothin happened. Why the hell would I want satellite radio when I have my ipod filled with music I actually like? Plus, I never got the point of paying for radio.
- RichMan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0All I want more out of an iPod is Airport and Bluetooth (wireless headphones and docking FTW). After that, just try improving upon things like battery life, storage, device size, and screen size.
XM doesn't seem like a cool addition to me. . - SniperGX1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0forget xm, I want GPS with mapping software damnit
- tsupersonic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Haha, no. Seriously why not just put in a FM tuner that lets you listen to radio for free provided it's got commericials. My iPod is good at what it does, just listening to my music. No thanks to photos or videos.
- crunnells, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How the hell do you get a satellite radio antenna into something the the size of the the current ipod? Have you picked up the xm myfi? That thing felt huge to me.
- zelig, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1
Sirius blows away XM. - agooga, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How can you listen to XM inside without a big antenna? I listen to my iPod almost exclusively indoors.
- tolbs, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0yeah me thinks that iPod would be a f***ing brick. I think it would be one step forwards, two steps backwards.
- GeneHACKman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Right now someone at the RIAA is reading this and thinking, "There's got to be a lawsuit in here somewhrere..."
- akirakurosawa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0iPod + Howard Stern is going to ROCK!
Apple will probably demand a cut of the monthly subscription fees from Sirius.
if you dont want to pay subscription fees your iPod is still an iPod.
for a fee, you get Sirius on your iPod. simple as that. - kidhero, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0your ipod works regardless or not apple sells new ones.
you bought an ipod and it plays music and it plays video and it works.
stop your bitching. - mrfx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Anything to get money out of you fanboys ...has apple done anything free ..nope didn't think so.
- mehron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sirius came out with their own portable satellite music player. But it will be interesting to see if it teams up with the iPod.
http://www.sirius.com/gs/s50/
To me, it seemed they marketed it as being 'portable satellite radio,' however you're only allowed to play RECORDED and STORED satellite content. (So think about it as the podcasting, without someone else doing the radio show and allowing the content to be downloaded. You'll have to have your iPod docked (in this case) and record the show to be able to listen to it at a later time.) Which to me kinda defeats the purpose, but would love to have a Sirius compatable iPod.
I am a happy Sirius subscriber, under my brothers account. (First Acct. = $12, 4 Additional Accts = $6 each, so get a group of friends together and get it cheaper!) Best commercial free music, not to mention newest music you won't hear on any terrestrial station and when it finally does make it there they overplay it until you reach your breaking point.
So I'm keeping my fingers crossed for this one. - mrfx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"I'm in as long as I don't have to pay a subscription fee."

Oh you will if not more than the original. - RAT-Man, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That would be cool if it came to fruition.
1-9-06 - etx313, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dang. I was really wanting a S50. I'll never buy an ipod, oh well.
- h198x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0noice.
- tolbs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ok maybe not a full blown ipod...Like a 4-8gb flash drive with sirius wouldn't be too huge....but still..
- dracula, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0w00t stern w00t
- pwandell, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Howard stern is an old jewish douche and sirius sucks ass.
the hyped-up waste of money ipod + Sirius = $300 steaming pile of *****. - Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'd love to see one of these. I feel that my iPod has cut me off from new music. I would buy one of these in a second, even with subscription fees
- sych0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That would be badass. The only thing stopping me from getting satellite radio is the fact that i have an ipod.
Secondly, why does anyone think itd be free? Id expect it to have a monthly fee as all the other receivers do. - Scott802, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Hoo Hoo. I invented the Ipod. Hoo Hoo
Tell 'em Fred - Historian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Pure rumor
- debtman7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0
I don't think anyone, including the submitter, actually read the article. It doesn't say anything about an iPod with satellite radio, it talks about an ipod companion boombox type device that may have satellite radio. - C_MAC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3XM > FM > AM > Sirius. Thank you.
- biometricks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"Hoo Hoo. I invented the Ipod. Hoo Hoo
Tell 'em Fred"
haha. O&A Party Rock.
Seriously though, I have Sirius stock. I hope to god this is true. - thewebguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0that would be the worst ever
- fa_pa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yeah sure we are still waiting for FM radio on the ipod :P
- LycoLoco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0But...I thought Steve Jobs said that radio wasn't needed...
***** backtracking idiot. - MonkeyFit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@lycoloco
Are you just now realizing this? Didn't he also say that there wasn't any need for video on the iPod? It seems like Apple tries the Eric Cartman approach to business. Tell people they can't have it or you won't let them have it. People want what they can't have so this gets people in a frenzy over it. Then you finally give them what they want and people go ape-***** for it. It obviously works but makes him a complete douchebag in the process. - beavenour, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Cool that's my picture in the article!! I originally posted it to an ipodlounge.com gallery. It's Old Skool (Conion TC999) meets New Skool (4G - 20GB iPod). I still use that setup a good bit but now with my 5G – 30GB iPod!!
- enumerated, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0not happening. Old rumor. Too many small people involved with no proven track record.
