- smackydoodle, on 10/14/2008, -14/+493Gotta love that glossy screen. Nothing better than wacking to porn and seeing your face staring back at you.
- mikesly, on 10/14/2008, -123/+557So they go from one button to no buttons.. Apple I wanted another one not, well none!
- BuurjongenB, on 10/14/2008, -50/+440$1999.... Really?
- kezia1, on 10/14/2008, -19/+328Eh, I wish they put that new MacBook at $1099 or $999 instead of $1299....
- p3ngu1n, on 10/14/2008, -60/+323Just two-finger tap on the trackpad. Why would you ever need a right-click button? WAY easier.
- fantasticjon, on 10/14/2008, -37/+243meh. no netbook? no major price drop. I am disappointed.
edit: I was most excited about apple being competitive in pricing and taking a 20-30% market share in 2-3 years. They are just not going to gain market share if they are so much more expensive. - cadmiumpaint, on 10/14/2008, -16/+217its the same price as usual, but with better stuff inside. They always do that.
- jaxter2010, on 06/17/2009, -47/+242Steve Jobs.......c'mon.
You are killing function:
1. No touchpad button
2. Taking away half the I/O ports (note there is no more IEEE1394A)
3. Glossy screen only
and for what....marginally better aesthetics? - huse, on 10/14/2008, -21/+201'Gloss', ONLY! Well that's more or less put of half the designers in the world.
- inactive, on 10/14/2008, -7/+186Whoever came up with the $800 MacBook LIE must be dealt with!
- whaler, on 10/14/2008, -10/+187But will it run as crotch-burningly hot as the old MacBook Pro?
- jsreid, on 10/14/2008, -99/+269eww. black keyboard?
- filovirus, on 10/14/2008, -22/+178Happy with my Mid 2008 MPB and the matte screen
- turbodigg, on 10/14/2008, -12/+161What about us FCP/Photoshop users who want a traditional matte screen and not some funky glass gloss thing?
- inactive, on 10/14/2008, -34/+163The track pad sounds cool!
- cptshamrock, on 10/14/2008, -4/+128looks like they're never going to update the mini.
- cerealjynx, on 10/14/2008, -8/+122Ever tried playing a game with a trackpad?
Hell no, that would be sucky no matter what. - kmb1794, on 10/14/2008, -32/+135hope you can deep throat.
- dairien, on 10/14/2008, -14/+109I was close to buying my first Mac but the price does nothing for me.
- rdmty, on 10/14/2008, -16/+108yep, 2 finger tap is awesome.
- ExSlashdotter, on 10/14/2008, -14/+99C'mon yourself. No firewire means no DV cameras. Goodbye final cut users! No firewire also means no ProTools LE. Goodbye audio engineers!
Two huge industries where the mac is prominent, and they go and cut the nuts off their users.
Also, now you don't have Target Disk Mode over firewire. Goodbye IT admins! Now you're forced to use apple's netboot/netinstall server technology to image your macs. - Blademan88, on 10/14/2008, -16/+101well, that was hardly worthy of a whole big show. they updated their laptops with nothing revolutionary at all, couldn't they just update it quietly like every other company in the world?
- jaxter2010, on 06/17/2009, -12/+96boozedrinker,
99% of pro video cameras use 1394A. Its not like its an obsolete technology. Apple just alienated a major part of their core market. - longbow486, on 10/14/2008, -13/+96Would you rather look at keys that turn yellow after three weeks of use?
- drjennings, on 10/14/2008, -34/+106Mouse buttons are so 1993. Do you want a rotary phone and an AM Radio as well?
- atdakore, on 10/14/2008, -9/+79THE MBP is now AU$500 more expensive in Australia.
How Ridiculous - AndrewLeon, on 10/14/2008, -91/+160Underwhelming...
- inactive, on 10/14/2008, -19/+85It's kind of ironic you're complaining about no buttons seeing as how THE WHOLE ***** THING IS A PHYSICAL, MECHANICAL BUTTON. Any more mystical insights?
- cptmorgan, on 10/14/2008, -10/+75The Macbook has a slower CPU, no firewire, glass screen, black keyboard, and it starts at $1299? the cheaper white model has more features for 300 less! Wow, what a let down. Refurbished older models, here I come.
- dn11, on 10/14/2008, -1/+63Steve Jobs says you're wrong to want that
- Taiyoryu, on 10/14/2008, -5/+64The new 2.4 Ghz MacBook is essentially the 13" MBP everyone has been requesting minus the dedicated graphics chip, but the Nvidia integrated graphics chip is no slouch.
- tempest89, on 10/14/2008, -75/+134Finally! My first mac!
- dustation, on 10/14/2008, -0/+58i usually just wack off with photobooth going!
- waxcrash, on 10/14/2008, -11/+68I like it. Looks kind of like the old school Titanium PowerBooks, which in my opinion is the best looking laptop to date.
- TurboBeard, on 10/14/2008, -0/+54Gross, that made my day.
- statc, on 10/14/2008, -1/+54I hear the heat is a good contraceptive.
- phamtasm, on 10/14/2008, -8/+60What's sad is that it looks like all the new Macbooks are glossy screen only. There's no more option for an anti-glare like with the old line.
- mrshickadance9, on 10/14/2008, -14/+64who cares? crysis sucked.
- gweedo767, on 10/14/2008, -0/+47only half? Last I heard they like proper colors.
- benjhaisch, on 10/14/2008, -3/+48aluminum keys don't turn yellow..?
- mudpuddle, on 10/14/2008, -7/+52I hear you; I wish they put it at $35
- CaptRage, on 10/14/2008, -2/+45That is still too much, why would I choose to save $100 for older technology, it is less than a 10% savings to buy the older version.
- AceyS, on 10/14/2008, -7/+50Ehhhhh.... Have you heard of the MacBook Pro before? It's actually been out for some time now. This one is faster!
You could wait until it is more out of date, or you could buy it now when all of its components are the fastest relative to competition than they will ever be. - LordBathos, on 10/14/2008, -9/+50I think I'll wait for the next one.
- brundlefly76, on 10/14/2008, -16/+57Go configure the $2499 MacBook Pro as a Dell XPS 15" notebook (no coupons or deals = ~$1600). I agree the MacBook chassis is WAY nicer, but I do not want to pay an extra $900 for a notebook for ANY feature.
And if I want a 15" notebook instead of a 13.3", why do I have to pay extra for DUAL VIDEO CARDS, LED backlighting and a 2.4 GHZ processor?? I don't need ANY of those features!!! GARHH!
An entry level Dell XPS 15" notebook is $499 - HOW is the plastic 13.3" MacBook STILL $999 with NO NEW FEATURES???? - hurleyint1386, on 10/14/2008, -11/+52Soooo what about everyone that needs a matte display?
- cadmiumpaint, on 10/14/2008, -9/+50The two tone is ugly, but i'm sure it'll grow on me. I'm just so used to seeing the solid silver for so long.
I'm actually really excited about the solid construction and the side loading super drive. That front loading thing is a pain, and a serious weak point in the design. It gets damaged easily. That new trackpad could be cool, but i'm sure will take a while to get used to.
Maybe in a year or 2 when i'm ready to upgrade my newish MBP they'll have a matte screen option - sirjimithy, on 10/14/2008, -7/+48Yes, that's been the entry point for Apple's pro notebooks for several years now.
- dvslamont, on 10/14/2008, -11/+52 old joke is old
- BossKey, on 10/14/2008, -6/+45So it's the same price, but guess what, Apple's market share is rising, especially in notebooks. If you ran a business where you don't change the price but you sell more and more, what business reason do you have to lower the price? You must have a kick-ass product (and as far as I'm concerned they do, because I bought one and it runs spectacularly).
