- Snyder, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11/me looks at his 20GB iPod and screams "WHY ARE U SO FAT?! U FAT PIECE OF CRAP!"
- maddogg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5People are saying the $ is to High, let me get this right:
- Kingston DataTraveler II USB flash drive - 2 GB = $171.91 (Just Storage)
- EDGE 2gb DiskGO! USB Flash Drive = $169.32 (Just Storage)
- SimpleTech 2GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive = $171.52 (Just Storage)
- Apple iPod nano: 2GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive, Color Screen, Itunes, Etc.. $199.00
What am I missing? - jnmn98, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5TWIT is used as the sample for the Podcast demo on the Apple site. It's Leo's voice and TWIT intro music.
Way to go TWITs!!! - einsteindesign, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Don't want one? Don't buy one.
We are a nation of consumers. We are a global economy based on the acquisition of things that make us tingle in the right spot, be it emotional, tactile, aural, visual. I buy a certain brand of pizza because it tastes better than the rest. I buy a certain brand of jeans because they fit better than the rest. I buy a certain brand of car because it's more reliable than the rest.
Now kindly help yourself to a cup of STFU. Make sure it's generic brand, as we wouldn't want to support those evil corporate brands. - Snyder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2P.S. I'd like to applaud Kevin Rose for reporting the name, size, and price of the iPod nano before anyone else. Well done!
Now, back to staring out my next purchase. - Drum, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is what the shuffle should have been.
- maddogg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2One More:
SanDisk Cruzer Titanium - USB flash drive - 2 GB = $209.00
2GB Flash Drive + all the iPod stuff for 199.00, looks like a good deal to me! - click81, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Actually, the mini's have been replaced by the nano. So if you want a mini, get them now while supplies last.
- zero_bit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2people complaining about the price: you do realize that the going rate for a flash-based 1gb mp3 player is about $120? For $80 more you get twice the space and a color screen, as well as a device that can hold pictures.
Some people say apple can market anything and people will buy it. It's also true that apple could release anything at any price and people will complain about it. - indication, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Finally, it is time for me to drop my mini on a cement floor "by accident" and use my warranty to get the new iPod nano... Muahahaha
- Snyder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I would GLADLY sacrifice having my entire 18GB collection of music with me at all times, in favor of having such an amazingly small piece art in my pocket.
I'll be saving up to buy one. Holy crap that thing is beautiful. - ZicklePop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1chosenone - I do, I need atlest 10 GB to hold my music, I don't like syncing playlists I like syncing my entire collection ;-)
- SilverRocket, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Bitch Bitch Bitch. It looks a fabulous product in the tradition of all apple products - overpriced hardware with great design. That's what Apple is and will always be. Don't like it? Don't get one.
- leomyhero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The Super Sizing of America has contributed to society's obsession with making things "mini" and "nano"
- TonyStark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1looks cool! Can't buy one - my wife would take a frying pan to my head - multiple times.
- MTigerV, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Looks like K Rose was right. I wonder who his source is....
- jayster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this is going to kill the shuffle, no reason to buy one now. I was going to get a shuffle because it's flashed based and I could use it while biking now I'm going to get a nano.
And iPods are not over priced if any other company could sell there players for more they would, the reason they are selling them for less is they are not selling. I have an older rio sport and like the ipods much better.
Dang no video ipod, - Nanx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1For all of you complaining about how they just bought shuffles and iPod Minis...I'll gladly take them off your hands :-)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I just bought one, i am bankrupt now...GO ME!
- green1152, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Is this what all the hype was about?? crap.
- KelteN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Very cool. It seems Apple is heading in the miniature direction. Considering their latest product is always smaller then their previous.
- monkeybutler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i saw that one one and said "i'll pass". But then i saw the black... holy crap!!!! Plus it does pics so thank god for costco's 6 month return policy.
Im ready to buy... - Function, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why buy a shuffle now? They're way too close in price.
- deepthought21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's awesome!!
- weareglass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, the price point is pretty lame. They'll sell more nano's after discontinuing the mini's but lose out on price-conscious consumers. Plus I think the colors were a big selling point, in all honesty. Still, that black one looks pretty sweet...
- liquidice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1About the price, you have to remember that it's solid state flash memory, which is more expensive than a simple hard drive.
- Infekted, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1wow i must agree its a very slick looking. but that is the reason for you to buy a new one and ditch the old. and they will continue to make new models to salivate you. 2 years from now and here comes a new model to ditch this one. it never stops.
I'd buy one but i have a budget. i don't think I'd be less human if i don't get this one. I'm still satisfied with my PSP. - willij, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1holy cow. Kevin Rose you were right.
- Function, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Damn sexy.
I want a picture of my 40gig photo next to this. David & Golliath style. Should we assume a new iPod firmware update today? I've heard talk of new games and such. - xs10shul, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It looks nice, and the screen is certainly welcome, but I agree with others here that it's going to kill the Shuffle market. Why get one now?
- dj_atomix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I was at the event and got to play with the iPod nano. It felt pretty rugged and very, very light. This is definitely gonna replace my iPod shuffle. :) the iPod tunnel holder was pretty nice, although you have to slide the iPod in thru the hole in the window "Dukes of Hazzard"-style. I'm telling you though, this is gonna be a hot product. The iTunes phone on the other hand felt clunky and slow. I wish Motorola had given Apple a shot at the industrial design and GUI.
- NzeeSheikh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ohh i just bought the ipod mini two days ago... this is bad
- theevilone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1All free will is draining from my Body... I have to have it. I love my 4gig mini because it is just the right size. This new one will get lost nicely.
- hidrox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hey If you dont want your old iPod, I-ll take it man
- DaManDOH, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Now Mr. Alex Albrecht complaints make so much more sense. I wonder if he'll move onto some other Apple-bashing topic? ;{)>
To all of you complaining about Apple's products/pricing scheme, I refer you to the previous Microsoft product pricing scheme. Office, Windows, and nearly all of their server products were oppressively expensive time and time again. Apple releases a superior product -- IMHO -- with a four-times larger capacity than the Shuffle, a full iPod interface, and prices it only twice as much as the Shuffle.
Thanks for the flamebait, naysayers. - ehavir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1mcbesq: What about those of us who have a financial plan, diversified investments and also buy a nano? What then?
- Rndm_Tngnt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think we're missing the bigger picture, here.
Hello, Harry Potter branded iPod?
Nano, Schmano. Travel to Hogwarts in style while you listen to a weeks worth of a stuffy british guy reading books at you! - tidu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They don't have colors yet. Think if they had colors now, there would be nothing to hype about later. Everyone's mini now isn't too beat up yet, but in maybe a year, they'll add different colors and make it appeal to those who have an "old" mini.
- larsinio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1All i want is a non 4:3 video ipod
- skell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1why is this no longer showing up in the top dugg stories of the year?
- leomyhero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1all of this reminds me of Derek Zoolander's tiny flip phone... I might buy one if they bumped the capacity up for the same price points.
- mcbesq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@ pbojovic
Why don't you buy Apple stock? Evaulate the pros and cons.
Pro: Apple has the best marketing department of any corporation. They command brand loyalty at a time when such loyalty is nearly extinct in other sectors (ie - GM, Levi's, Coke)
Con: Apple's business model is sorely lacking. Case in point: the Switch campaign was eliminated after a year when Apple went from having slightly over 3.5% global market share to 2.7% global market share. Apple also missed out on the server market and PDA markets, having left bad memories in terms of its print-sharing (as anyone who remembers Mac labs circa 1992-1996 can attest) and the Newton.
Additionally, while white boxes conquered the home PC market through licensing of architecture and operating systems, Apple cloistered itself into a niche through vertical integration. On the other hand, MS licensed Windows to PC makers, who in turn, had already licensed the architecture from IBM.
Apple is a premium brand that has very little potential for growth beyond its current niche.
On another point, Apple also may have botched potential growth for its market with the 1-day "30-day Mac mini" deal. The lukewarm reception for the mini is understandable though. I love the form factor, but add the monitor and accessories, and I can get the same for less running Linux or, god forbid, Windows.
Nevertheless, Apple can make up some lost ground next year when (and if) Vista ships. I for one am never using another version of Windows. The only question is Linux or Mac - UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'd rather get a PSP since I have an iPod, but the Nano is VERY COOL.
- Snyder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Hopefully it is pretty rugged. It seems I could snap it in half if I wasn't carefull."
The back is made of metal. the front is made of the same hard plastic use in the regular iPod's. That thing aint gonna snap too easily, I would assume. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Everytime time i buy an apple product they come out with a better one for the same price or less.
Im gonna wait about 3 years before buying another apple product. - scorwitz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh wonderful, a smaller version with a barely readable screen that is going to cramp up my right thumb and holds 10%-20% LESS than the one I already have! I already have FIVE of the 4 GB's in one 20GB regular size. What am I trying to do? Make an iPod so tiny that I can tuck into one of my fat rolls?
- m4v1s, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1very cool
if i needed portable music
this would be my choice
until then
the radio is still my friend - jool, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow that looks really breakable, I wonder how it will hold up to the old bend test.
- cyberdork, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I can't believe the mistake Apple made by REPLACING the iPod Mini with this iPod Nano. The iPod Mini was (predominantly) a fashion accessory for women, the iPod Nano is just another fancy gadget. What's left for all those girls who loved the pink mini?
Bad bad bad marketing move of Apple. I'm very surprised!
It should have been a Shuffle+.
And iTunes 5? they should have called it 4.9.1
Still I'm an Apple poster boy :-) -
