- leomyhero, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2This is like the park in Bellevue WA that looked like the Apple logo, I don't buy it
- g4blows, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4It's just a joke for everyone that doesn't get it...
- bdeisgn, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2Anyone that really believes this is completely retarded. If you scroll around the map you'll see many similar structures.
- cmyk, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2It has a 90 Baziggabyte hard drive. Filled with really ***** music.
- groo68, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2http://maps.google.com/?t=k&ll=-30.384723,121.175165&spn=0.065231,0.050211

microsofts version - inkhead, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4This is totally an urban legend
- nickarodriguez, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1yah, i don't think so
- whistle, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2It is a hoax. These were there even before ipod was invented. check out terraserver maps from 1999. more on this here:
http://blog.outer-court.com/archive/2006-03-28.html#n79- loker269, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1you mean this terraserver image which clearly says 2006 in the corner?
http://www.terraserver.com/imagery/image_gx.asp?cpx=121.336956&cpy=-30.516354&res=15&provider_id=340&t=pan&dat=&OL=Off
do not get me wrong I am not buying into this either....I think it is a waste water treatment plant given that there are structures that look nearly identical to the south east.....but it is not a hoax because of those terraserver images! - pmpc00, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12006 is the copyright.... note the little (c).....
'99 is when the image was taken...
Oh yea.... and reported as inaccurate... - loker269, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3ok you notice that if you go to anywhere on terraserver on the date on the side says 1/1/99? IT IS THE DEFAULT DATE! I have a hard time believing they took a picture of the entire world one day in 1999 and never updated it....especially considering terraserver had almost no high resolution color images back in 1999 let alone of a small location out in the middle of no where in Australia!
also that number in the corner is not for copyright purposes it is there so you know the date the image was taken.....
just look all the ones from federal 15M are dated 1/1/1999 like I said it is a default date no one changed......
- loker269, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1you mean this terraserver image which clearly says 2006 in the corner?
- xanthin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1April?
- emanuelez, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Mmmm... qualitative math ahead.
What would be the production cost of such a huge structure? What if Jobs invested those money in lowering the iPod price? Now THAT would be a birthday people would remember :)
Anyway... i don't buy this either.- MrUnderbridge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Advertisements make money. Lower prices don't. Apple's not a charity.
- Flyinace2000, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Isn't this a dupe? From about a week ago?
- loker269, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3actually this was the original that never got dugg to the homepage....
- j0ew00ds, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Is it april 1 in australia already?
- sandeepg, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Besides, I always thought that Google Earth maps were around 3 years old.
So unless Apple's been planning this since 2003....? - sebastiangomez, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1I've seen designs that were way better made than this crooked piece of land... This is a coincidence..
Mac News, Final Cut Pro Tutorials, Tips & Movie Reviews: http://macgomez.typepad.com - brianmuse, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4If apple planning something like this, they would at least make it hte proper dimensions.
- DigeratiPrime, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3apple: 90% marketing, 10% elegance.
- Kitsune818, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2It looks like a water treatment plant with a pool next to it.
and do you seriously believe "It has been in development for almost two years since Apple’s founder Steve Jobs acquired the location during a game of poker with (the late) Australian publishing and gaming tycoon Kerry Packer."
You people are gullable. - jackraz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Good one ;-)
Yesterday I saw a cloud in the sky that looked just like Homer Simpson doing laundry ;-) - gaijintendo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0hahahahaha And also - it can't really be seen from space, and anyway in Communist Russia the iPod listens to you.
- Gurubanks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0haha! good one
- energyblue, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1What am i mean't to be seeing here?
- provibe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2It's a nice hoax. I especially like the line "...Apple’s founder Steve Jobs acquired the location during a game of poker with (the late) Australian publishing and gaming tycoon Kerry Packer."
- ear1grey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You mean to say Kerry Packer's _not_ dead?
- timbo1234, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Ha, nice idea but so wrong!
- themeparkphoto, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2Jobs and Wozniak love to tell the story about how they funded the company initially by selling devices used to steal service from (what was then) The Phone Company. (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_box for example.)
They actually seem proud and boastful of the fact that they had to steal and enable others to steal to raise money for their initial venture.
This means, of course, that every dollar of profit that Apple ever had is "dirty money".
If they want to do something meaningful, they should take the billions of dirty money they're sitting on and use it to heal the world. Or at least spend as much as Gates has spent (several billion of his own money). - tbutter, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1this is a hoax
- leonftwlol, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1It's true, i read it in a few places now
- zabouth, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1sweet jesus this has been posted at least 5 times and this is its second time on the front page its not a ipod any fool can see that
- bighusker, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0Who are they trying to reach with this advertisement? The 4 guys that are hurling around the earth on the ISS are the only ones that will be able to see this advertisement. Ridiculous!
- damonic, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Do you think that this has anything to do with the date of their birthday? April 1...
- ewithrow, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Looks like April Fools has started early..
- sembetu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Hmmm... "If I were Apple.... (dream sequence begins)
Jobs: "Hey, I know, let's take the opportunity to advertise our NEW product by making a HUGE viewable from space version of our OLD product."
Lemming: "Now THAT makes sense. I mean, really, we can do whatever we want, right? We are Apple, and people expect us to use old stuff to market new stuff."
Jobs: "Wait a sec..." (reaches over to Lemming and rips of MI style latex mask) "Ahhhhh! Bill Gates! What are you doing here!?"
Lemming(Gates): "Now my plan is complete, I have already placed a fake image on google maps and spread it onto the internet. And I've been planning this for several years! Ha Ha Ha!"
Jobs: "You'll never get away with this!!!! I'll have one of my REAL lemmings post it to digg, and they will uncover your scheme! I'll get you Billy!"
Gates: "Could you chase me around the office a little? I've been dreaming about that for decades."
Jobs: "Sure..."
(Dream sequence fades back to reality...)
Ahem, excuse me for that little trip into my subconscious. Must be the Aspergers Talkin' again. - Geterix, on 10/12/2007, -7/+0Careful guys. The fankids are out in force to mod down all post that do not salute the grand old Apple flag.
I suspect that over the next two days their will be about 6 dozen Apple threads every 3 hours. The zealots are going to go Mormon on us until all are singing the tune of leader Steve. - tsunamisteve, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Let's digg EVERYTHING Apple to the front page.
- stylesP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3http://maps.google.com/?t=h&ll=50.010966,-110.112802&spn=0.004544,0.009688
much better ad- ear1grey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1... which is mentioned at the bottom of the story that's been dug.
- ear1grey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1... which is mentioned at the bottom of the story that's been dug.
- ThankTheCheese, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2if apple WERE going to create a symbol like that to celebrate 30 years, there is NO FRIGGIN WAY they would choose an iPod. It would be an apple logo, obvioulsy -- not a damn iPod.
- sembetu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2they'd be to scared to use the logo with all the legal problems they're having :) (Apple Core)
- GhengisKhan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Another stupid blog with nonsensical "data". Lame, No Digg.
- ripter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Why does Austria have all the cool google earth stuff? They had the flying car and now the Big *kinda if you squint your eyes and use your imagination* iPod
- ear1grey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hey it's true, if you squint hard enough it moves to Austria!
- stringycheese, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Another apple story about someone guessing about a possible future story that's probably going to be lame anyway. Why is this news? Why does anybody care?
In other news, it's Dick Chaney's birthday next month. Rumour has it he is getting a new rifle and going pheasant hunting with his Al Queda buddies... See i can make up crap too. - stringycheese, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I read that CNET is concerned at the lack of any news from Apple. Then why do I see about 10 apple stories a day here on digg? Oh wait, because none of them are actually news, just more hype of Steve Jobs or Woz or some fake ipod screenshot some kid photoshopped.
- cleverboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Geez. Does Digg get inundated with hoaxes every April Fools? That would be horrible. I'm seeing the Digg hoax-o-meter bob around enough as it is...
