      While my main job is not RF, my last job dealt a lot with EMC/EMI due to its nature and let me tell you its a bitch. Any problems and its very hard to pin down to a single issue, reproducing problems was the hardest i found. Thank god i still had my Physics book from College.
      Also, there was some rumors that the iPhone was NOT PASSING the FCC, where did they come from? I dont know, but i heard more then one person mentioned it. So it is big news to Apple Fanboy's.
      As for me? I dont care.

I took the freebie phone (Nokia 6102i or some *****), just so my number is ported properly, etc. For me the killer app is going to be the random access voicemail. I'm SOOO sick of having to listen to every message I've skipped, or that will be deleted from my verizon mailbox before they let me listen to the NEW messages...!

      I wouldn't be surprised if the iPhone will be buggy when it debuts; but I'm willing to take those risks for this thing, because I think that overall it will net out just like the iPod did.

      Disclaimer: I use iCal, Address Book, and Mail.app regularly, so this phone will be the cul-de-gras for me.

      You do realize that EVERY Apple product except iPod has basically an insignificant market share. And that Apple has NEVER successfully introduced a new product into an already established market. And the cell phone market is far more established than any one they have tried.

      You make a good point. It is just that so much hype exists around this product. It seems to even exceed the Wii. I also think Apple is incredibly popular with the under 30 crowd and have so far managed to make everything cool. I think that if it is half decent it is going to be huge.

  • MacParrot, on 10/11/2007, -3/+5The only reason this gets as much attention that it does is because of the massive hype (pro and con) before its announcement. Which led to the hype for when it would released. Which led to the hype about whether Apple would get it out the door when they said it would. The Apple lovers are estatic because this is something they've wanted for a long time. The Apple haters are angry because it's taking away precious digg space for whatever the hell their favorite gadget is and because they hate Apple (mixed in with a liberal amount of jealousy and envy).

    Out the gate Apple will sell every single one they make. Will that translate into long term sales? I don't know and neither does anyone else. Will they make their announced sales goal of 1% of the market in 2008 (you can bet that's a face-saving manuver, as Jobs probably really is expecting (demanding?) a higher goal)? No idea and again neither does anyone else.

    Whatever ends up happening, I won't be buying a 1st gen. Why? I don't need a photo editor/ display on a phone. I don't need to surf the web (even with full spread pages that I can zoom, which was a really cool part of Jobs demo) on a phone. With only 4-8 gb of storage (even less with the OS on there), it's not good enough to use an iPod. The screen is finally big enough to use as a portable media device so if they decide to use this form factor on a new iPod (without the frigging phone) with 30-80 gb of storage, then I'll be there.
