- Claymore, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14The "iPhone" has been claimed by "sources" at every Apple conference for the last two years (or more). How many times can you be wrong and still say "I told you it was coming" when it finally does arrive?
- FuzzyBunny, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16As cool as an iPhone sounds I could really care less about when it's coming out now. All of the rumor sites have done this rumor to death. Anytime I hear another rumor about it now I just dismiss it.
- unloud, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13A phone is useless if you can't talk on it. Where I live, the Cingular coverage is appaling....I might as well just buy a regular iPod if they go with Cingular because there is no way in hell that it would be usefull as a phone here.
- dswskinner, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11What is it with people on here saying they "could care less" when they mean to say "couldn't care less". It makes it sound like they do care about the subject.
- flag564, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14Wasnt this thing supposed to be released last week. And before that, last July. And before that, on April 1st.
- sd12013, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7$50 says you don't know the difference between "there," "their," and "they're."
- dkirkham, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8are you sure you didn't just hot glue a shuffle to the back of your cell phone?
- drm237, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Right....and the large-screen ipod was being released earlier this week....or not.
- antoniojvr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Apple is smart. I hope they make it cross-company like the RAZR. (Verizon, cingular, T-Mobile, etc.)
- pinkegobox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5i'm getting pretty fed up with this iphone business now too -- can we all just not wait and see? everyone was so wrong about the "new video ipod", you're only going to upset yourselves when apple don't release.
- cyclonus5150, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8I am soooo incredibly tired of rumor sites. I'm quitting them....seriously. They're sucking the life out of the tech world....and forcing me to waste waaay too much of my time.
- cybermort, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7i thought we/they had learned a lesson here.. i guess not.
- Claymore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4here's some comments on Think Secret being wrong:
http://geekcast.newsvine.com/_news/2006/05/05/188295-think-secret-getting-it-wrong - wastern, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I couldn't agree more. It was cool when it was just a small community of users and tiny rumor sites, that had good info most of the time. I liked those days.
Now that its going mainstream its getting annoying. There is way too much of it and frankly its getting annoying.
I love apple, I have 3 apple computers in front of me at the moment, and 3 iPods. If they come out with a nice iPhone....*IF*....I may even buy it. But quit with the random rumors. Unless Jobs says it or it is on Apple.com just don't post it and don't digg it. This is all going way too far - ReBeLaCe, on 10/12/2007, -10/+14I dont give a ***** what service it is I will get it.
- CPUGUy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6re: Could care less
Thank you!!! I thought I was the only person on this whole freaking planet that saw that.
Everyone always says they could care less, which means there is at least an inkling of care there. - zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Seeing others yawn, coupled with ad nauseum rumour stories makes me also feel like ... *yaaaaaawwn*
- drrlvn, on 01/18/2009, -2/+6Why are everybody talking about specific service providers/mobile operators? As long as it supports GSM/UMTS/CDMA/CDMA2000 it will work anywhere... Or am I missing something?
- andyeb, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9Yawn. When is this rumour going to die?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5All of these Apple Rumor sites are a joke. They are never right. If you don't have undeniable proof, just please shut up about the damn Apple iPhone or whatever.
- korimickster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I will gladly dump Verizon for whatever service Apple goes with.
- MaxDrax, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5When will the iPhone predictions stop?
Jobs is not some wizard that with a cast spell can produce any product imaginable. Apple's design and engineering zenith was years ago. What have we seen from the company lately? The same notebooks as always, the same desktops as always, the same iPods as always.
iTV looks like another disappointment.
Look, I'm generally an Apple Fan Boy but when it comes to Apple predictions I've come to the point where I wish everyone would shut the hell up. - rancemo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I heard it will have click-wheel rotary phone style dialing instead of a keypad.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Ah, if it isn't Thinksecret's biweekly iPhone rumor. If they continue this forever, they'll eventually be right. Maybe.
- dkirkham, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3We've all heard lots of things,
It's most likely to have a standard keypad, perhaps behind a flip down/slide down ipod type wheel. As was "shown" a few days ago on here.
Just a clickwheel would make messaging a nightmare! - TeqnoHaxor, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6ThinkSecret is not just your run of the mill rumour site, in fact I can't think of a time in the past two years they've been outright WRONG about something. Hell, Apple even tried to sue them at one point because the info they had was so accurate.
- guytoronto, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Apple is also planning on releasing the Mac version of Duke Nukem Forever around the same time.
- unloud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They were wrong at the begining of this year. They had said several things that were supposed to be released including a Mac mini with DVR support, full length films tied in with .Mac accounts, and a new iPod shuffle with colors, all of which didn't happen. In fact, it caused a lot of sour grapes in the Apple community due to the high hopes and hard letdown.
See their rumor recap for the expo: http://www.thinksecret.com/news/0601expo.html
Just remember, these sites usually do have good sources, but they are nowhere near definite. Expecially since Steve Jobs makes decisions as he sees fit, nothing is set in stone until you see it on the stage. - Sc00t, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Lots of phones are branded and locked into some providers. Even Treos are specific. I have a Verizon Treo 650 that will only work on the Verizon network.
It's extreamly lame, but that's the way it is. - zang74, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@ flag564
Really? I'd like you to point to any thing from Apple (press releases, keynotes, etc) that says that this phone even exists, let alone a date when it would be released. C'mon. Show me.
My gawd, could you be any more of a troll? All you do is bitch about Apple, claiming to be battling the "Apple fanboy", with a righteousness seen only since the Crusades. Seriously. If you don't like Apple, who cares? You don't need to keep acting like somehow the average PC user is getting trampled on by Mac users. Don't like the company, don't comment on every single Apple article on Digg like it's some kind of righteous indignation to even have Apple mentioned. - chadu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2you are right but many people don't understand that acronym soup you just spewed. as long as it's GSM and does Edge, i'm cool....
a GSM/UMA phone would the best. Calling over wifi when on a wireless 802.11 network would save so many minutes.
does it seems as though the phone will be available through current providers or is apple moving to be a MVNO operator like boost or amp'd? - mobilehavoc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Holy crap, been less than a week and already new rumors? Seriously people, stop spending so much time speculating and live your life.
- Kerr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Last time Thinksecret.com said it was being released on Sep. 12th according to their sources...so I am going to take this bull with a grain of salt.
- Cander, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2So, about these sources. Are these the same sources who monthly say the iPhone/6G iPod is due next month?
- macbookshmo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Given ThinkSecret's past track record, this means we definitely won't see the iPhone at Macworld 2007. Hopefully before the end of the yeay.
- unloud, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Actually, they've been saying the touch screen iPod won't be released until next year for a long time now. In their last post before the event they even said definitively that this update won't be a touchscreen iPod:
http://www.thinksecret.com/news/0609sept12event.html - doubledoh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I generally haven't supported apple ever since they sued journalists for excersising free speech, but frankly, a device like this will garner my support. I'm flabergasted that something so obvious hasn't been released years ago.
- eastcoastweb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'll believe it when I see it. Does Apple want a product they develop to rely on someone else's network? Why limit sales to Cingular or AllTel etc... Why not an unlocked phone with SIM card? This way you can use it with ALL cell service provides that support it's protocols... That would be the smart thing to do.
- uberlaff, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3in responce to unloud: oh please let it be a Cingular phone... plus all other networks. I hate it when companies come out with exclusives. Service providers are not in the business of selling phones. (even if they like to think that.) They're in the business of selling their services... come on, stop taking the easy way out and COMPETE!
Sounds cool as hell... can't wait to get one... - jsg7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Apple is smart. I hope they make it cross-company like the RAZR. (Verizon, cingular, T-Mobile, etc.)"
Yes, but the problem is that if these companies want to have their own music/video distribution service to their phones then they may not want the competition from Apple, who already dominates that industry (certainly in music, if not video). - Leviss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm sorry that's just dumb....
when have any of the rumors said that apple would start their own service?
Do you honestly think your smarter then all the people in the company, that no one would have thought of this?
And why would i want to use my ipod to connect to my phone when i could just use my phone? its completely unnecessary - soapboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Cellular phones are locked by the provider, not the manufacturer. This is because the provider (Cingular, Verizon, etc) is subsidizing the cost of the phone, which would normally be much more expensive than what we consumers pay. They do this so their customers sign term commitments, during which time they make up all their lost revenue from the phone by providing ***** service. =)
If Apple does indeed release a phone, I hope they learn from their mistakes with the ROKR. It should be GSM (sorry Sprint/Nextel users) and SIM card capable so that anyone can use it on a GSM network such as T-Mobile. The service would certainly require the subscriber to have a data plan on their account.
On another note, I really do not wish to purchase music on-the-go with my phone. I currently have no data package with my cellular service, not even text messaging. I have a Mac, and I use iTunes (though not much recently) for my regular 4G iPod, but I don't purchase anything from the ITMS. Buying music over the phone would mean paying an incredible premium for the luxury of downloading a song anywhere. The phone will have to be stellar to get my business, meaning it must have:
+ Good, if not excellent battery life
+ Plenty of storage for my music
+ Good signal capability
+ Not more money than a blackberry or similar PDA type phone - eliasg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Needs to be sold as an unlocked quad-band GSM handset, that way anyone in the world can buy one.
- Quix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"My gawd, could you be any more of a troll? All you do is bitch about Apple, claiming to be battling the "Apple fanboy", with a righteousness seen only since the Crusades."
We all have different things that motivate us to get out of bed in the morning. Spewing horsecrap on every Apple digg in sight is flag564's.
Sad, I know. - tuxuser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1oh boo hoo
- uptown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does it come with a pony too?
- evansls, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I hate to be negative, but it's true from what I've seen Verizon do in the past, they will most likely never pick this phone up, because they care too much for their own media services. But even if they did offer this phone -- they would end up crippling it, so it wouldn't even be worth it! It will either be a Cingular ot T-Mobile solution. Oh well... When I had Cingular, it had horrible service in the DC metra area that I travel in and not referring to specifficaly DC, so i don't plan to ever go back. It would be funny if apple offered their own phone service with the phone!
- unloud, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The different standards require different hardware along with software. A phone that is compatable with all standards would be needlessly bulky, and you know how much Apple likes something to be bulky.
- wastern, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2$50 says you're wrong and their is no iPhone
- kturner, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I think Apple is trying too hard to be all things to all people. Is becoming a cell phone company something they really want to put themselves through? I don't see people switching their cell phone company to gamble on Apple's service. People have grown to love whatever provider they are currently using. And... thru promos like "Free Mobile to Mobile calling" people have formed little social cliques that revolve around free minutes. (Ask yourself... how many of your friends can you call for free during the day?)
I think it would be smarter to allow the iPod to have a stereo bluetooth headset (with microphone) and allow another bluetooth connection to interact with a cell phone via OBEX. (Sucks to be with Verizon at the mention of OBEX). That way... all bluetooth phones could interface with an iPod...you know... dial a contact thru your iPod. Just toss your cell phone in your purse/bagpack/what-have-you and use your iPod LIKE a cell phone. -
