- eleven, on 10/12/2007, -6/+33Just submitted my iPhone concept to their site, hope it makes it up.
http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/6199/iphoneminiiz1.jpg - GirlsGoneWeed, on 10/12/2007, -5/+27the 029 one is real nice~
- brstilson, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20I agree, I think 029 looks most like something Apple would come up with.
- allanpat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19wow, there's some really horrible desings on that page.
028 & 029 are the only two halfway decent concepts - Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16That's one of my favorites too! I like iPhone 028 and 001 too.
I think iPhone 028 most closly resemples the multi-functional hand-held device patent that Apple filed recently. In which the the user can select what function they want the device to be from a menu, and then the whole UI of the device radically changes to look like the device you want to use!
E.g. if you choose "phone" from the menu, the existing clickwheel on the device appears to dissolve off ths screen, and numbers appear in its place, the device now looks like a cellphone. If you choose "games", then the numbers dissolve, and are replaces with the gaming set-up. Maybe you have to turn the device on its side. Now on the left side of the screen appears a plus controller, and on the right you have a, b, x, y. You can then download those games through iTunes for use on the iPhone, with this gaming set-up the games would appear in the centre of the screen.
Now I am guessing the way they implement the patent in the device, but the patent does suggest all the things i've said. - ReallyChili, on 10/12/2007, -7/+18Headline is about as crafted and coherent as most of the designs, sorry, DESINGS.
29 is awesome though. - mikeazorin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Quite a few of these are really terrible.
- zaren, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7How nice of this site to pull an ebaum.
They lifted a ton of their pictures from Isama Sanada's design site, stripped off his watermarks, and put their own on. For example:
http://www.apple-style.com/laboratory/pict_05iphone_r03.html
and
http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1759/667/1600/iphone_017.jpg
Others lifted from his design site were iPhone 08, 014, 016, 023... all with his name and recognition rights stripped off and theirs put on instead.
So, if I may say again:
http://www.apple-style.com/laboratory - formerly http://www.applele.com - Supernova36, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Why do they all have to look like iPods?
- amoo3, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3168733759916419298
I still think hats the best one. - emorphien, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10Seems to me that a slider phone is most likely.
- eleven, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5yeah I think some of those are from years ago - when apple first registered the iphone domain name.
- trylleklovn, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6"Looks very much like the Samsung t509 (as do some of the others):
http://www.t-mobile.com/images/products/Samsung_t509/370x400.jpg"
Hey, that looks very much like any phone.... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5@Klisk
A majority of new phones on the market today cost more than $200. The new RAZRs for example are around $500 retail value I think. Devices like the Treos and Blackberries are more in the range of $700-$800 retail. The only reason you get them so much cheaper is because you sign a contract with your provider. I suspect Apple will have a partnership with one or more providers when/if they finally do release their phone. It will probably be around $300-$400 out of pocket price. Retail price will probably be a few hundred more.
And before anyone asks me for sources for the Apple phone price, I really just made it up. It's an educated guess. - borb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I love the first one. Some of them are terrible though.
- JestaMcMerv, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I guess everyone who designed those phones has never used a cell phone in their life. I'm sure apple will be quick to know that texting is in, and it do anything on its phone except make the keypad easy to text on. Those phones there, no way could you text on any of them.
- eleven, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8Okay I did 2 more "fun" designs as well.
The other one is my favorite, but the 2 below are cool in their own "special" ways:
http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/268/iphonelq7.jpg
http://img172.imageshack.us/img172/9736/iphoneshufflepd7.jpg - gozasc, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I can't wait for Apple to release the initial model of said "iPhone," wait two months, and then turn around only to release a black version that for some mysterious reason costs three times as much.
- Enchirito, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3lol at 012
- drastick, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The iChat looks way to long to me. Where in the hell would you put that thing? If its not really as long as it appears then that would mean the screen would be pretty small... Maybe its just me...
- fartingbob, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5#29 doesnt have a microphone at the top, something like that might need some modifying...
But it does look very nice.
#22 looks very interesting, although it would probably be a pain in the ass to use if they ever made something like that, although no where near as nightmarish to use at number 12 would be! - u8myfoood, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2013 seems quite like a sony ericson walkman phone
i think 025, 012, and 010 are just PLAIN UGLY! - makingme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Wow...i'd buy one. Although, I like the traditional device to ear better than the headphones. Personally I don't care for having music on my phone. If I'm listening to some good tunes and someone calls, I'd be ticked off. lol.
- shuffle, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Then "your" definition of cool is definitely dated. Grow some self esteem and enjoy things for what they are, not for who else likes them.
- brstilson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3002: Looks decent but the volume in an iPod is controlled by the ClickWheel. Apple wouldn't put separate volume buttons on it
005: Doesn't even look like a phone
007: Wow, I don't think my fingers are quite small enough to use that one
008: Looks more like a Casio Calculator than an Apple product
009: pretty neat, even though it looks like the buttons were stolen from the RAZR
010: easily the ugliest one of the bunch. The fact that it's based off the first-gen iPod makes me wonder how long these iPhone rumors have been around. Are we going to see a NewtonPhone next?
018: nostaligic, from the G3 era, interesting concept
020: looks more like a WMP mini-player skin than something from Apple
022: looks more like it's from Creative than Apple.
I like 028 and 029 the best. - ahdanielsan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Well, imagine my surprise when I realised that the girl in 29 is a friend of mine!
- Zoglog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Found it, stolen from
designers Pilotfish and Synaptics
http://images.businessweek.com/ss/06/08/cellphones/index_01.htm
This is why I find blogs retarded -_-
Also gotta love how they watermarked over another watermarked photo from slashgear...... - Greyhaven7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You said: "... no external microphone or anything...".
That means "you can't still use it like a real phone". - kevnaca, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2My three favs: 29,28,and 1
How is 005 a phone?!
http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1759/667/1600/iphone_005.jpg
more like an UMPC
24,20,18,16,14,12,11,10 are either ugly or nonpractical in design. - Klisk, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4@popfrogs
Why is it surprising I'm posting here? I like videogames, and AD&D.
Also, I have a 5th gen 30gb ipod. :) I got it through freeipods.com. I could take pictures of it if you want, with my, gasp, digital camera. Which I got through, gasp, newegg. For $70. :)
I'm just cheap.
I work out of home, and don't drive. Is it surprising I don't have a cell phone? If I did get one I'd have to cancel my landline phone. But I currently don't see the point in doing that as much as my friends bitch at me to get a cell. - Greyhaven7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Good idea, then if you loose your headset or if it breaks, you can buy a whole new iPhone! Or at least won't be able to place or receive calls until you can get a new headset.
- BuddhaManFizz, on 03/06/2008, -0/+1Chalk it!
- sox11, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1out of all of them number 29 would be the one i would buy
- flamingmb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I hope its an implant, then people will really think I am crazy when I start talking to myself.
- Dog_Paddle, on 10/12/2007, -8/+9@Ireland
That's to complicated for an Apple product. - wschamps04, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I personally like 14 because I prefer flip phones, but 2 and 28 don't look that bad.
But what is up with number 5?!?!?!? Looks more like an iTablet from 1998 O_o - Zoglog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1022 isn't even an iphone fan concept. Somone Stole it from a report on concept phones. Whoever runs that blog.......... man
- JamesK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What I haven't seen:
A flip phone that looks like a nano when closed, then when you flip it open, it has a screen and keypad inside.
To save costs, the screen when it is closed can just be a window to the real LCD.
Would similar form factor to a RAZR. - JamesK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What you're talking about is fake cool, er, Cool Whipped (tm).
Truely cool people don't care if other people think it's cool. - GirlsGoneWeed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1#29 is the only one id buy..... possably http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/268/iphonelq7.jpg
but 29 all the way. i want it now...... - BuddhaManFizz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1no, read the previous sentence, i meant on the headset... "no external microphone or anything, just the earbuds"
-duh - Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Not this again!!
- yllabianbitpipe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I vote for 22.
And although maaking the iPod touch wheel into a rotary style phone dial is a cute idea, that would not be fun to use. - BuddhaManFizz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1nobody said you couldn't still use it like a normal phone. i was simply commenting that if you could change the audio jack to one similar to those found on cellphones while preserving sound quality, you would solve one of the fundamental flaws with the idea of the iPhone
- Phoenixfury, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I guess I get to be the bad guy today and point out the misspelling in the topic. Should be designs. Yes I know I'm pointing out the obvious. I'm not a perfect speller either and yes I do make a lot of typing errors. However I found a really good reason to upgrade to Firefox 2 RC1.. The built in spell checker has.has been saving my butt for the past 24 hours. I predict when everyone (hopefully this means all Digg users) will upgrade to Firefox 2 when it is released. I think will see about 75% of all misspellings go away. :)
Sorry to go off topic, but I felt this had to be said. :) - OdinEye, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I like the black "U2" iPod look of #29, but would rather have that case with a slider, like 001. Or just 001. Maybe the clickwheel buttons could light up as "send" and "end" when it's in phone mode.
I don't have the photoshop skills to make a picture of it, but I've wondered if there's any reason why the bottom half couldn't be a flip design, with the clickwheel on the outside, and a number pad underneath. - ZeonZumDeikun, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Interesting concepts, but I don't like the colossal height of the more iPod-esque designs. The screen doesn't need to be nearly that big, especially since it is vertical. Numbers 13 and 29, my personal favorites, may stick out of your pocket. I think it should be a flip phone, but not as strange looking as number 14.
And if you're waiting for this to be released, don't, because Apple isn't really sure how the phone will operate yet. The cell phone market is still very different from the music player market as far as service goes, but they are growing more similar with the release of every music phone. Apple also does not know how to sell the phone yet, because they want to sell the phone themselves and not through service providers. Apple is also looking into being able to use iTunes through the phone wirelessly directly through the cell phone service, which would be a little different on each individual network (See Verizon's VCAST and Cingular's MobiTV and MyWeb for examples) and Apple does not want that.
Hold your horses, if you let Apple wait, they will give you a better package soon enough. - JayBachatero, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1#029 and 028 are the only two that actually look real. I prefer 029 though.
- championchap, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1different points of most of them should be used in one phone
on the whole, the list there is full of fairly bad looking designs. - miestersean, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Those numbers are so terribly placed...can you imagine dialing on that thing?
