- geoken, on 10/10/2007, -29/+648This pic reminds me of those cheezy informecials where some dude manages to strangle himself with a garden hose because he isn't using the hose spooler they're trying to sell you.
- Chewie67, on 10/10/2007, -28/+431Why isn't the iMac shown with the BlueTooth wireless keyboard and mouse? That would leave just 1 cord.
- timusca, on 10/10/2007, -5/+343This pic is right off of Apple's website... why is it linking to imageshack?
http://images.apple.com/imac/images/gallery/imackeyboard_4_20070807.jpg - MrMetal, on 10/10/2007, -43/+317I'm an Apple fan, but the picture is clearly manipulated for shock value. The cords on the Dell could have been coiled up as neatly as the mouse and keyboard cords on the iMac. Having said that, the new iMac is nothing short of sexy :)
- Hipple, on 10/10/2007, -24/+249How big is the price difference?
- geoken, on 10/10/2007, -51/+245It's funny how they added every external accessory neccesary to make the Dell match the Apple, yet didn't add anything to make the Apple match the Dell. For example, the Apple would need a external USB hub to match the Dells usb ports and an external sound card to match the Dell's surround sound ports.
- bittermang, on 10/10/2007, -9/+154Because they're being fair. The Dell is also configured using a wired keyboard and a wired mouse. Comparatively the Dell is also setup with a webcam to illustrate even more bulk, because the iSight is built in.
- rigg419, on 10/10/2007, -22/+163i think it illustrates the differences perfectly. Apple makes a nice PC if all you want to do is plug in and go. No memory card reader, no extra optical drive, built in marginal quality speakers etc... etc.. Dell makes a PC that you can easily do anything to. You can add a camera, or open it up and put in more ram or a new video card, add 7 or 8 USB devices etc... IMO The Apple looks cleaner and is a good choice for many home users and creative types, but the Dell is more functional and expandable, same as always.
- mrroarke, on 10/10/2007, -24/+148How about a side by side picture of what happens when you need the monitor repaired?
- DaffyDuck, on 10/10/2007, -28/+125Yeah, because webcams break all the time. It's so worth adding the cables and visual mess.
- Hipple, on 10/10/2007, -8/+96I don't know where you're seeing that. I just built one on Dell's website with 2.4 GHz, 320 GB HD, 20" LCD, 1 GB RAM for $1070.
- emehrkay, on 10/10/2007, -10/+93*upgrades video card*
- chris9902, on 10/10/2007, -26/+109Wouldn't the Mac need a game first?
- Koyder, on 10/10/2007, -27/+109They also probably didn't fill up the iMac's drive with crapware.
- Arkanjal, on 10/10/2007, -25/+103I'd be interested in the comparison picture in the gaming graphics....
- WebcoW, on 10/10/2007, -24/+100Admittedly sexy, but such tight integration makes upgrading any single component somewhere between difficult and impossible. Want a higher resolution monitor or a better web cam? An HD-DVD or Blu-Ray drive? Buy a whole new computer.
- posure, on 10/10/2007, -11/+79This shows the difference between a computer you can upgrade and one that you're stuck with forever.
- plaxx, on 10/10/2007, -45/+110they could've shown the iPhone and iPod connected, but then they would have to show the Zune and a Cellphone connected to the PC as well. In short, they would run out of room on the Dell side. The new iMac line is sexy, stop living in denial :)
- rokinroj, on 10/10/2007, -21/+85Thats a great analogy! Of course my first instinct (like probably every other non mac nazi) was to respond about the obviously staged cluster ***** of wires on the Dell. But you have already done it brilliantly. Thumbs up for you. :-)
- rootstyle, on 10/10/2007, -6/+6722" LCD sorta skews your pricing a bit...
- jeriqo, on 10/10/2007, -6/+66Fact is, most of the wires when you buy PC stuff are folded... and they never totally unfold, ending up with a mess like on the picture.
Apple cables are rolled in the boxes instead.
That's the kind of details which make Apple stuff different. - Davede70, on 10/10/2007, -13/+68Except for the part where it runs Windows Vista instead of OSX.
- Hipple, on 10/10/2007, -11/+66Just looked it up because I was curious. An XPS with specs similar (actually slightly better) to the baseline iMac is a little bit over $200 less. Not bad.
- Chewie67, on 10/10/2007, -25/+78And the build in camera on the mac won't get smashed off the desk or ripped off the monitor when you accidentally kick the cord.
- meamog, on 10/10/2007, -6/+53I can't speak for Dell equipment, but I'm pretty sure all the Apple cables I've had actually came coiled up nicely.
- emagine28, on 10/10/2007, -5/+50A computer with 7 or 8 "chords"? At least it can make some beautiful music...
- takamalak, on 10/10/2007, -1/+45The irony is that webcams almost always break because they are not secured properly, fall, and break. Or the dog chews the hell out if it.
- bradwilki, on 10/10/2007, -3/+46Because the lowest priced iMac comes included with the wired keyboard and mouse. and the point above.
- BLyn, on 10/10/2007, -8/+50Twist-ties...
- lonseidman, on 10/10/2007, -9/+51While an accurate depiction, with the Dell at least you can swap out the hard drives and video cards without having to hold a degree in electrical engineering! :)
- Reziarfg, on 10/10/2007, -6/+45You know, you're right. For all intents and purposes, the imac is just a laptop with a stand. I could also prop up my laptop and it would be pretty clutter free.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/10/2007, -6/+45This is just the picture from Apple's promotional site.. can't believe this is on digg. (MUST SEE!!)
http://www.apple.com/imac/design.html - pimpsallad, on 10/10/2007, -11/+49As a PC user, that mac is very very sexy. I guess that's the point.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -11/+49The Apple version of the Dell website, where else
- recover82, on 10/10/2007, -6/+43"accurate" or not it's still pretty funny, especially working in IT. i see peoples desktop systems as organized as that dell desktop everyday.
- chris9902, on 10/10/2007, -18/+52don't be a fool. It's great marketing but it's obviously exaggerated.
- TheUngod, on 10/10/2007, -19/+53And if the computer gets outdated, upgrade the parts in the dell. After a year or two with the Mac?
- cruffenach, on 10/10/2007, -20/+54I'm a complete mac freak over here too. But the Dell machine has like a SD Card Reader and the chords are basically made to look messy. I won't burry it because you are totally right. But a little over the top.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+35that url has already been submitted with a ***** title, nobody dugg it
- geoken, on 10/10/2007, -7/+39I'm not saying it isn't real, I'm just saying it's exxagerated. Look at the two mouse cords for example. The slack in the Apple's mouse cord is formed into a perfect spiral which lies totally flat (it's so perfect I'm pretty sure it's p'shopped). Contrast this with the Dell's mouse cord, which seems to be meticulously positioned to appear as intrusive as possible.
- cbasstastic, on 10/10/2007, -3/+34If your going to get a PC and be upgrading it then just build your own.
- miniboss, on 10/10/2007, -1/+32I'm not sure about everyone else but my productivity levels increase exponentially when I view my computer straight on rather than from the side. I guess I just prefer to look at whats going on INSIDE the monitor rather than obsess over what's going on behind it.
- MrAction408, on 10/10/2007, -10/+41yea, cuz i'll be happy to be without a computer for a couple days.
- foxhoundadmin, on 10/10/2007, -1/+32you can't believe this is on *DIGG!?*
...
i can. - mrASSMAN, on 10/10/2007, -4/+33They also added a remote sensor on top of the dell tower.
- SnuKs, on 10/10/2007, -7/+36Broken webcams? Skoober must of have frequent run ins with Chris Hansen.
- campo, on 10/10/2007, -8/+36wow you stole an apple promo image. awesome!
- CraigJ, on 10/10/2007, -9/+35No, they added everything to the Dell that the iMac has. the iMac has build in speakers, etc. So this is an Apples to Apples comparison. And for the record I have a Dell Optiplex sitting here and I have a crapload of wires...
- gharding, on 10/10/2007, -0/+25And at least one power chord!
- icoms, on 10/10/2007, -47/+71Dell XPS 410 Desktop 2.13GHz, 250GB HD, 22" LCD - $1,489.86
